The stories of Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox have entranced both children and storytellers for many years. These stories span the country from the East, West, North and South and bring with them the flavor and joy that is the USA. Delightful in their characterization of Paul, Babe, Sandy McNab and many others, this collection is to be shared in families and should have a permanent home on the shelves in Public Libraries. Some of the deeds of Paul Bunyan are grandiose and also believable. If you are new to this collection of stories by Dell McCormick, you are in for a treat if you purchase a copy.

Paul and company, along with the help of Babe the big Blue Ox, chop down entire forests.

I adored Paul Bunyan when I was a kid. Somewhere around third grade, the teacher gave us the option of either copying out the week's spelling words multiple times or letting us write a short story that had to include every word. I went through a months-long spree of only writing stories about Paul Bunyan (and Babe, and Ole the Big Swede and Sourdough Sam and the whole gang). Why was the ox blue? And why did you have to capitalize both 'blue' and 'ox'? How did a human woman physically give birth to Paul who was the size of twenty men? Who knows, but I did enjoy this revisitation with the tall tales (otherwise known as big old lies).

While we probably prefer Paul Bunyan Swings His Axe this was also a great book. The same author wrote both but changed some of the names of recurring characters changed. The stories are dated to a time and place where environmental and native people exploitation were ok. Still, fun stories and give a perspective of long ago.

Tall Timber Tales by Dell J. McCormick is 21 little stories about Paul and his crew. These stories are very interesting and funny. I like this book very much. This book is a easier read. The pictures are very descriptive and detailing. I would recommend this book to people who like tales.
