If what this book has to say is true about John Updike, you will learn that some of the themes of Updike's work are:

(1) The use of details of one's subjective experiences as clues to understand one's role in the universe
(2) The differences that framing effects can have on understanding one's experiences and when critically thought about can yield complementary or inconsistent interpretations of the same events
