An enemies-to-lovers, slow burn + witty banter + amnesia, monster romance!

I’m a librarian who specializes in intergalactic antiquity, hired to restore the ancient tablets and print books of the Sandstone legacy. Now I’m on location in the wildlands of a remote planet called Tarvos. And my boss, the local satanic-looking rancher financing this new library, hates my guts. It irritates him that a human was chosen by the antiquities council to run this Hyrrokin project.

It doesn’t help matters that I saw him naked that one time…

And then there’s a terrifying earthquake in the cave where the tablets are sourced and we’re stuck together, trying to find a way out.

I end up tending to his wounds.

And this is when I learn that maybe my boss doesn’t hate me as much as I thought.

I’ve read all of Michele’s published book and this one I really didn’t enjoy. She forgives him very quickly. I understand the apologies with different species, but I didn’t feel the chemistry.

We're back on Tarvos and this time we have Sten Sandstone and the human librarian he REALLY doesn't want to be in charge of cataloging the collection found on his property. In fact, he's kind of rude to Taylor at first and it's only once they get trapped in the cave housing the collection that he starts to unbend. Then all his locked down feelings come spilling out and soon the two are connecting over more than books.

Just to be clear, I'm not a huge fan of amnesia when used as a plot device like this. Sten is about to tell Taylor how he feels and that they should make things official when he gets knocked on the head and the guy can't remember her once he regains consciousness. He goes back to being rude and rejects her pretty publicly. BUT THEN, after some time has passed, Taylor has left the planet and now has to return to tell Sten he's going to be a papa and suddenly he remembers everything. None of the scenario really hit me emotionally. Sten's amnesia was used to keep them apart, but everything magically righted itself once they crossed paths again. I don't know. Maybe I don't feel like they had to work for anything. There was some tepid dislike, they worked that out, they got together, they separated thanks to the conk on the head, and then things were okay after some time had passed.

These books tend to go hard on over the top behavior and I pretty much expect that when I pick one up. This one? I don't know. It didn't quite work for me.

Not What He Exoected

When Taylor arrives on Tavros she had the usual human reaction to Hyrrokin but quickly tries to mask it even though she passed out at first but Sten cannot contain his dislike and distaste for a human female being appointed to the task of retrieving and restoring the artifacts he found. Despite his dislike he still finds Taylor attractive. When they get stranded in a cave things heat us fast but when a rock hits Sten before their rescue he forgets everything but Taylor"s arrival.in this entertaining tale.

Finally a grumpy interaction instead of an instant I love you and I will make you happy. I like that the Librarian is a researcher.

This was entertaining read, somewhat less repetitive than the ones before. I enjoyed characters banter, their chemistry, smexy times. It was interesting seeing female lead take care of our hero for a change. Looking forward to reading next book set in this world.

“You can stare at my naked body any time you’d like.”- sometimes things are just said so warmly that it’s sweet❤️
Slow paced, but amusing, not much to the story… but it’s nice, touch of drama, with HEA❤️
Hyrrokin-fright syndrome, it happens so often that it has a term now😂
How much easier would life be with those cleaning bots!!

A captivating read with a real unexpected surprise at the end, totally unexpected outcome
This was an enjoyable story I cannot recommend this book enough; it will keep you guessing from start to finish and it still has a twist that you will not expect and this is what makes this series of books such terrific read.
Sten Sandstone had come across tomes in an old cave on his property and with his interest in the history of the Hyrrokin and everything to do with the expansion of their race and the reason they have become such a successful race.
He had requested a librarian visit his property with an extensive knowledge in tomes and texts and written books of any description. When Taylor had been appointed to this highly important job she had not prepared properly for the race she would be visiting and had fainted in shoch when she transferred via the portal and was met by individuals that resembled the devil, they even breathed out flames and had forked tails and tongues.
When Taylor and Sten had gone to the cave together, they had been trapped by a cave in and he had been quite badly injured, fortunately Taylor had been able to care for his wounds and had waited to be found and rescued. Whilst in the cave they had talked and the attraction they had been feeling had grown and they had allowed nature to take its course and enjoyed each other thoroughly.
Unfortunately, there had been another aftershock and Sten had been injured again and had been left with a loss of memory and had no recollection of their shared time in the cave and a heartbroken Taylor and returned with the tomes to her home planet to continue with the translation.
There is more to this wonderful book that I will not spoil for other readers the final outcome I will allow you to read this for yourself and discover what the final outcome is for Taylor and Sten.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the wonderful writing.

“Oh no!” a voice cries out. “This human is suffering from Hyrrokin-fright syndrome. Help her.”

With all the human women in these stories always screaming and fainting in fright at the sight of the Hyrrokins, I'm surprised no one is ever warned or- I don't know- required to have a mandatory briefing of what thy look liked before they are allowed to travel. Th line above made me laugh and think 'here we go again!' There must be something wrong with me because that's not the reaction I'd have to seeing Hyrrokins... *dreamy sigh*

I loved this book. It was a fun, sweet adventure. I loved both Taylor and Sten. She may have gotten off to a shaky start, but she's smart, skilled, and is confident in her ability to handle the artifacts. He's angry that an outsider is in charge of his people's artifacts and ancestry.

“It's not right,” he rages, “that someone, who isn't even of my species, who arrives and screams at the sight of us, is going to oversee some of our most ancient objects. How do I know you'll treat everything here with respect?”
“Because I am a professional who has restored textual antiquities all over the four sectors. I will carefully do the same for you.” I tell him. “Remember I was chosen by the Antiquities Council from a large group of applicants.”

I found the entire premise of finding ancient artifacts fascinating and liked the storyline. I enjoyed the way their relationship developed and how they needed each other and to work together. 5 stars.

Taylor is a Librarian who specializes in restoring old, intergalactic textual materials. She gets the mission from the Antiquities Council to handle ancient artifacts that were found. She arrives on Tarvos and discovers that they look like Satan. She has a horrible dread of the look. But she tries to be professional.
Sten is a Hyrrokin rancher. While out riding on his property he discovered a cave with ancient artifacts in it. He told the sheriff who referred it to the Antiquities Council. NOw he's stuck with a human. He is not happy about that.
The two butt heads but manage to get past the hostilities over glasses of an alcoholic beverage. The day after they head out to the cave. While there there is a quake and a cave in. Now they have to wait to be found. They take care of each other...especially her taking care of him since he got injured protecting her. But one more quake and another injury and he forgets what she is to him. She leave to go back to Gravin. Till three months later a surprise to her occurs. Now she has to go face the beast in his home. What will happen?
A fascinating story with heart.

I never write reviews, but this book made me feel the need to.

First of all, the editing. Like I get that it’s a short story and they can be pumped out super fast, but at least proofread it once or twice. The spelling and grammatical errors were insane.

Secondly, THE LAST NAME OF THE MMC IS DIFFERENT FROM THE FIRST TWO BOOKS ABOUT THIS SET OF BROTHERS!!?!?!? In His Human Runaway, it was Thorn Flagstone, in His Human Rebel, it was Rake Flagstone, and now all of a sudden it’s Sandstone?! It was originally the Firestone ranch and now it’s sandstone? There were MMC’s earlier in this series from a different family that already had this last name. This is such a huge mistake that i couldn’t overlook. It drove me insane the entirety of book, and I had to say something. I hope to god at some point she gets around to fixing the massive mistake.

Also, just a wee little thing, but the book specifically says slow burn. What slow burn? It didn’t exist. They met, and the next day they were boinging in a cave.

These books are my guilty pleasure and to see this one be such a massive flop actually sucks.

Sten and Taylor
Wow! I loved this book. I've read all the other Monsters Love Curvy Girls series and each book gets better and better.
Taylor is used to beings dismissing her because she human, but she's one of the best of her field. Dealing with a grumpy Hyrrokin male is just another job to her except for her attraction to him. Sten was expecting a Gravian male but he got a human female that screamed and past out at first sight of him and other Hyrrokinians. Instead of being put off like he excepts, he's attracted which makes him extra grumpy. When they get stuck on a cave during an earthquake, Sten is hurt and Taylor applies first aid. They let their attraction known and have some steamy time together. After the aftershock, Sten gets hurt again, he has amnesia and rejects Taylor. Taylor leaves planet with her feelings hurt, but Sten still doesn't understand his attraction to her. Will Sten find his memories? Will Taylor tell him how she feels and what they did in the cave? Read the book. It will not disappoint.

Tropes: Enemies to lovers, forced proximity, plus size FMC, huge demonic looking MMC, novella
********************
Triggers: Head injury/amnesia, pregnancy, explicit adult situations
********************

Usually, Mills’ Monsters Love Curvy Girls series is brain candy for me; enjoyable and sweet. That wasn’t the case this time. I will overlook grammar and spelling mistakes for the most part, but this time the mistakes took me out of the story. Also, she changed the family’s name from Flagstone to Sandstone with no explanation? And it’s a novella, so slow burn doesn’t work. In this instance there was no burn. Stern and Taylor disliked one another until they didn’t, suddenly in a couple of paragraphs they’re in love only to be virtual strangers after he gets hit on the head.

This was sloppily executed, with little chemistry between the MMC and the FMC. The dialogue was as flat as an Hyrrokin meadow. Even the spice was decidedly bland. Bummer, because this could’ve been a better book.

Movie rating R, cover 3/5, overall 3/5, romance 2/5, violence 0/5, and spice 2/5.

His Human Librarian is the thirteenth book in the Monsters Love Curvy Girls series by Michele Mills and this one was such a delight!

Taylor and Sten are so much fun! The chemistry. The push and pull. The will they won't they.

Taylor is driven and dedicated to her role and wants to do her best and be respected in her field.

Sten is focused and dedicated to his ranch and preserving his history and culture, not necessarily ready to accept help from someone unexpected.

There is some light angst and drama with the more intense action moments but it gives a beautiful opportunity for their relationship to blossom.

This story has a ton of layers which made the story even more interesting and engaging. It gave me as the reader s lot to fall in love with, and Taylor and Sten deserved all of my attention!

If you're looking for a story about a protective grouchy rancher and a driven do gooder librarian, look no further!

I liked the story. The twists were very good. Slow burn to the romance. The ending seemed a little rushed though.
Their inner thoughts were interesting. Especially Sten's. He wasn't sure what his feelings were .
This is a stand alone book. But it does include previous characters.
I read an ARC so I will not comment on the editing. I'm sure the typos I read will be fixed by publication day.
I liked both Sten and Taylor. Especially Taylor. She was ,as most humans were , scared of the Hyrrokin race but quickly got over her fear. She is confident and knowledgeable.
Sten is the youngest, most hospitable of the brothers, yet he disliked Taylor from the git go. I loved reading the way he changed his attitude towards her.
A unique HEA for them.

Red aliens and Antiquities, Oh my!!

One of my favorites in this series!!! Taylor, who has finally landed the coveted head of an Antiquities catalogue project eager transports to Tarvos. There her life is changed forever when her new boss is Sten, an Hyrrokin rancher, who found a cave filled with ancient scrolls on his property. There is instant attraction but a few bumps along the way as they mesh into each other’s lives. Taylor is one oh my favorite female characters in this series- a strong, resilient and dedicated woman who is perfect for Sten who needs a steadfast life mate. I love how they take care of the other without hesitation when life throws some unexpected curves and the sexy times are oh so steamy (Oh Sten, you little - I mean BIG devil you 😉).

Good

When Taylor Dumas, a preservation specialist librarian, from the Antiquities Library, is sent to the Hyrrokin homeworld, she doesn’t expect their Satanic features, or that she might actually fall for one of them.
Sten isn’t happy that a human female has been sent to help with his find, but he soon finds himself enjoying her company.
Then an earthquake strands them alone together in a cave…

Another fun, steamy read set on the Hyrrokin homeworld. This one is Sten Flagstone, brother to Thorn and Rake, whom we met in previous books within this series.
This is an enjoyable, shorter read, with the usual Hyrrokin issues, that fans of the series will love. Although this is a standalone romance, and can be read by itself, it works best when you’ve read the rest of the series, simply to understand the Hyrrokin culture and people.
An entertaining, quick read for SFR fans.

So I got this book as an arc. I really liked it. It reminded me of beauty and the beast in some ways- the whole library thing and he has a sort of beastly attitude towards her. There is a lot of miscommunication and preconceptions on his part and Hyrokin fear on hers. Lol. I enjoyed it as part of the series which I think is important in some ways, buy honestly, I think it’s a good book on it’s own. You definitely don’t have to read the others first, especially since he is only mention in the last couple of books. I do like Taylor’s character in that she is a book lover and wants to be respectful of all creatures histories. And I can’t blame Sten for thinking humans won’t be as respectful about others’ cultures. We do kinda have a previous issues with that. Bad humans. Lol. But it’s a sweet story and I think you will enjoy it.

This is my favorite Monsters Love Curvy Girls book so far! Truthfully I loved that Sten didn't fall in love with Taylor in the first second they met...he still fell fast for her but he didn't know it (LOL). I loved everything about this book starting with Taylor being a Librarian and having such a healthy view of her body. I loved that it took a bit of time to get over the appearance of the Hyrrokin. I also loved that Sten wanted the job done by a Hyrrokin he had promised the job and it took a bit of time to realize Taylor was perfect for the job especially after she showed him the way to keep his promise and still be in compliance.  I love the description of Tarvos and of the characters. I just plain loved this book.

This book caught my attention from the very beginning. I loved the interaction between these two people and how he started out not liking her and hating that she was the one her work had sent to help him out with his discovery, and she on the other hand found herself instantly attracted to him with some fear so it was an interesting mix. I loved the chemistry between the two of them and how they end up getting to know one another and things progress between the two of them. I loved how this whole story developed and how the author brought everything together. Be prepared that when you open it up that you don't want to put it down till you are fully finished. I definitely want to delve into the rest of this series.

Taylor is heading to her next assignment, where she'll be in charge of excavating, sorting, and archiving an unburied library. She's excited about this new challenge. However, she wasn't prepared to meet her deepest fear in the living flesh, the Satan looking Hyrrokins. Now she's kicking herself for not doing her proper research and embarrassing herself in front of her employer, Sten Sandstone.

Sten can't believe that a human librarian has been sent to lead the work on excavating the library he's found on his property. They are small and not as strong as other species for the hard work that'll be needed. But above all, he's attracted to her, and that'll make working with her even harder. No... he needs to get her replaced, but he can't seem to let her go as well.

Another great addition to this series. Still gets a laugh each time humans encounter Hyrrokins for the first time. Love Taylor's strength and confidence in her work. Sten comes off as a grump, but he really has a big heart. Another great couple. If you've enjoyed this series, you'll enjoy this one too!

love this series

All of these books are great and keep me enthralled until the end. The only note of contention I have is that halfway through the book the name changes and it tends to frustrate me because when you’re reading a book it transports you to another place in your mind so reading a screw up over and over just tosses you back out its like creating a new character halfway through the book that’s supposed to replace the original character. For example when you have a favorite television show and they recast the main character but it’s still the main character. It causes confusion and tends to dampen your point of view. But otherwise these are great books just please fix the typos.

unexpected

In the previous books, Sten Sandstone is a very personable and fun loving male So in this book from the first few pages when he was so rude and insufferable it was a shock
Taylor was beautiful and confident about her abilities to do this job with proficiency but her new boss was a jerk and just didn’t want to give her a chance
Little by little they become friends (with benefits) but are involved in an earthquake with aftershocks and everything changes
Another great book in this series I hate that I read them so fast because it’s so long between books hopefully there will be another maybe for the sheriff

I loved the tension and banter between the main characters, Sten and Taylor, throughout this book. Ranging from snarky to passionate, they ran the gamit, and then some. Sten's frusteration was palpable as he struggled with both the actions of others as well as his own choices. Taylor was probably my least favorite part of this story, though even she had her moments to shine (particularly when in crisis). There were portions, though, where I struggled with the actions she took and the egocentric mentality behind them. There would be a shot at redemption, though for me it fell short.

I received a gift copy of this book and voluntarily provided this review. 3.5 rating rounded to 4.

Taylor is a librarian and restorer of rare books. She undertakes a new job on a planet she’s never visited to discover the planet is full of demon looking creatures and her first reaction is to freak out. The contact and financier Sten is not pleased that she’s human and is rude to her from the moment they meet. Their relationship is not good but over time they grow closer until he gets hurt and forgets her. Heartbroken she returns to Gravian to finish her work until she makes a discovery of life changing proportions and returns to tell Sten. Thankfully he regains his memory and they get their HEA. They say not to judge a book by the cover especially not a lovely curvy librarian set to help restore ancient documents.
Taylor has looks, brains, personality and spunk in her step.
Stem is truly conflicted and confused when picking up the expert to document and persevere Hyrokin history.
A human he is not thrilled with and does not mince his sharp thoughts.
One quake will not only trap them together but change the course of their lives forever.
I greatly enjoyed this book and felt all the angst, turmoil and love.

The ending

See I was really enjoying this story despite the almost whiplash jump at times between the characters' range of emotions. Except when we get to the ending with that pretty much instant forgiveness and acceptance both previous behaviors and local laws. Despite the fact that the series is about a demon like alien species that's the part the surpasses belief for me, that a pregnant woman could go through what Taylor did and just instantly forgive it all in a five minute conversation. Real human emotions take time to process and trust, once broken is hard to regain and this story doesn't acknowledge that.

Sten and Taylor begin with a rough first impression of each other. He seems very rigid in his perceptions, and she has a lot to get used to in a short while. However, there is a definite undercurrent of connection between them that Sten especially is working hard to ignore. When circumstances throw them in a harrowing situation, they make the most of it, until a new twist has them going their own ways. I loved the story's tension and how it twisted into something completely different in the middle of what should have been an easy ending. I read it straight through and would absolutely recommend you not start it at 9 pm on a worknight, don't be like me, lol, have some common sense!

I love a forced proximity trope and being trapped in a cave is about as good as it gets for this. What are we going to do to pass the time?! Sten and Taylor initially don't care for each other but the walls between them start crumbling when the cave walls start crumbling. The steam was good and I enjoyed getting to see the last Sandstone brother get his HEA. I also love that the fear reaction of seeing a Hyrokkin has an official syndrome name now, lol.

His Human Librarian is the thirteenth book in the Monsters Love Curvy Girls series and an enemies-to-lovers romance that finds librarian Taylor Dumas arriving on Tarvos to restore ancient tablets for Sten Sandstone.
They don’t get off to a good start since he wasn’t expecting a human and she wasn’t expecting aliens who look like the devil.
This was another fun Hyrrokin/Human bonding that is nicely written, has intrigue, danger, spice, and delightful characters for a wonderfully entertaining read.
