This one is coming in at a very solid 3.5 stars for me. I liked the characters, and I liked the setting. But I found myself wanting a little more. I felt like there really wasn't a whole lot that happened, and it was a little toooooo slow of a slow burn for my taste. I was yelling at the book for Violet (FMA) and Chase (MC) to wake up almost the whole time. I am just starting to dabble in friends to lovers which this one is and realizing how much I am liking that trope. This one had the added element of Violet being a widow to Chase's best friend who passed away in a fire. They both were such strong characters and there for each other. I thought it was interesting to read how much Chase liked helping them and supporting them how he could (them being Violet and her two kids). While Violet wanted to break out on her and felt like Chase thought they were a burden. I thought that Kilby did a wonderful job addressing the very touchy issue of Violet getting back into the dating world after the death of her husband and all of the feelings and emotions that come with that. Chase also had his share of grief and guilt that he had felt and was dealing with in his own way. Their story and timeline was pretty beautiful- they didn't know if the other had the same feelings as the other. They both couldn't imagine their life without the other.

Violet has decided that it is time. She is going to take a stand and make a name for herself. Yes she has loved working with Chase at his farm and building up their events, but she wants to do her own thing. She always questions what Chase thinks about how much her and her kids take up so much of his time. She did not expect him to be as devastated as he is when she tells him she is leaving. She also doesn't expect the thought to come into her head that she wants to start dating again. So she accepts a date with someone she has worked with at the farm. At the same time one of her friends asks if she is cool if she dates Chase. Violet really doesn't expect that reaction which is a gut NO. But what can she say- they are just really good friends right? But now she is realizing how much she can't imagine her life without him in it. And not just in it but the way he is now. He is a true father figure to her kids. She just doesn't know what to do with these feelings but then he helps her along by telling her how he feels. Granted it is in a court room in front of all of their friends. But now they are doing this and it's absolutely perfect. The added plus being that her deceased husband's case has finally been closed and they got the answers they needed all because of Chase.

Chase has had feelings for Violet for a long time. Even before she met and married Todd. But he put them on the back burned because she started a life with Todd. But since Todd has passed away, Chase has done everything he can to support her and her kids. He is there for her when she needs him to help with the kids. He created a job for her so she could provide for them. He thought he was doing the right thing but then when she says she wants to leave and start her own business he feels like he is losing her. And now she is going on a date with another man and he can't stand the thought of having to go on the back burned to another man who doesn't know her like he does. So he calls in reinforcements. He talks to the guys (his fellow firefighters) and they all say the same thing- let her know how you feel. But then new evidence comes up in Todd's case and he can't walk away from the opportunity to bring Violet closure. So he has to focus on that while showing her how he cares from afar. But then things come to a head and he tells her that he has loved for a while now and guess what she feels the same. And now he gets to imagine their life together for the foreseeable future.

I overall enjoyed this one but like I said it didn't really feel like too much happened in my opinion. I am intrigued by the rest of this series and may dive in to read the others HEAs as they happen.

Thank you to Valentine PR and Kilby for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review :)

A Note from the Author

I've finally gone and done it. I've written the forbidden romance you had no idea you needed (but, trust me, you do). This story just would not get out of my head. My retired firefighter-turned-peach-farmer who started a famous supper club? He can't seem to fall out of love with the one woman he can't have. If you read Forrest for the Trees, you may remember him. His name is Chase.

Enter "Wild Goose Chase". I know, I know. Me again with the punny names. This one is still a rom-com, but it will give you all the feels.

Violet is a single mom who is struggling after the insurance company tries to cheat her out of her late husband's benefits. Chase helps her get on her feet while letting her keep her pride. He is there for her every single day. He cooks for her, fixes things around the house, watches her kids all day every Saturday while she goes to school to get her degree, takes her daughter to the daddy-daughter dance (one of my favorite scenes 🥺).

But, people...he is soooooo in love with her. We're talking Princess Bride vibes here. Every single breath Chase breathes, he breathes for Violet. This is still a rom-com (Chase may or may not have some, erm, uncommon reactions when Violet announces she's going to start dating again, and starts to date a guy named "Rod"). But, overall, it will make you cry tears that restore your faith in humans.

Please let me begin with the end-- because that epilogue captured my heart so thoroughly! Its ending was so gorgeously fitting! It was all, like confetti, so joyous-- leaving a wide smile in its wake.

Wild Goose Chase is everything.

This is a story of two souls so incredibly right for one another, but resistant to going down that path due to a past riddled with tragedy. Tragedy that has led to hurdles they aren't sure they have the mere right to face. Violet's firefighter husband suffers a tragic death on the job, and his best friend, Chase takes up the reins to ensure Violet and her kids are safe and thriving for the years to come.

But Chase has to silence his long-standing feelings for Violet to ensure he honors Chase by stepping up in his place-- in all areas except love.

As we quickly come to find out, Chase's feelings for Violet are very much requited. But they don't realize how mutual it is. So we are set with a sweet slow burn romance that takes its time to ignite. We see its foundation set in friendship, relishing in the gorgeous relationship and partnership Violet and Chase share. They complement each other in every way, the make each other better in every way. Their communication (minus their feelings) is top notch!

But what truly had me melting was Chase's relationship with Violet's kids. Often times in single parent romances, the love interest's relationship with the kid(s) can be underdeveloped. This is absolutely not the case in Wild Goose Chase. Chase's bond with the kids is so powerful, he's very much their father figure, and he delights in that bond. It's unique to them-- not due to their mother being the woman he loves. It's due to his pride in seeing those kids grow up over the years, as they start to develop their personalities, their likes and dislikes. He adores being part of their life, and it's significant in this book. I thought that bond helped to level up the story as a whole. it's not just a love story between romantic partners-- it's a love story of found family.

This is very much a slow burn romance, but if I could have my way I would have enjoyed even more seeing Violet and Chase's relationship post-getting together within the book. The end comes all too quickly for me! But, this is such a minor nitpick. I just wasn't ready to say goodbye to them yet.

Their romance was so worthwhile to see take flight. Their found family a delight to see strengthen.

This was very heartwarming story of Chase and Violet and how they processed their grief and trauma of losing a best friend and husband. Sweet slow burn friends to lovers story.

This book is part of the Green Valley Hero's Series but can be read as a stand a lone.

Received this complimentary copy and I leave this honest review voluntarily.

There’s always something more in Kilby Blades’ books, something profound, something extra, something special. Wild Goose Chase looks like a sweet little second chance small town romance. And it is. But it’s also so much more.

It was really nice to be back in Green Valley, see some beloved familiar characters (Hi Loretta!), and see the side characters get their moment in the spotlight. These are interconnected standalones, you don’t *have* to read the other books but why wouldn’t you, they’re great!

I went back to Forrest for the Trees (another amazing book by Kilby), just to see how Chase (the MMC) was introduced in the series, and stumbled across the title for this book in Chapter 8 🤭 You also don’t *have* to read Young Buck to enjoy Wild Goose Chase, but again, why wouldn’t you, it’s a great book!

This is a really disjointed review, but that’s where my head is at right now. It’s such a heartwarming book, beautifully written, I love the characters of Chase and Violet. But there’s also grief and trauma processing - it’s signposted right at the front with the CWs, so do take a look because there is a lot to unpack in this book and you may need to be in the right frame of mind to fully enjoy it. But as the afterword says, don’t be afraid to read stories that deal with serious themes. And at the end of the day this is a romance that ends happily and with a healthy dose of humour throughout.

jumped at the opportunity to read this book! For me, any book under The Smartypants Romance umbrella is an automatic yes please!

Violet & Chase. Sigh. These two have such a tragic and beautiful story. They both were thrown the most devastating curve ball and yet somehow persevered through it all together.

Chase, a former firefighter turned farmer & chef, made an oath to take care of his best friends widow and her children. Violet is tired of feeling like a burden to the one man she thinks she can't have. Get ready to feel all the feels in this one. Seriously these two are perfect. And don't get me started on those kids & that epilogue! 🥹

I am always so happy to go back to Green Valley Tennessee and get glimpses into the Pennyverse 🤍 It is my absolute favorite fictional town!

Who knew that best friend’s widow was going to be my new favorite micro-trope? This is a wonderful slow burn, tons of pining, amazing friendship turned romance story. We should all be so lucky to have a man love us like Chase loves Violet. And not only does he love her, but he also loves her kids. It’s so amazingly swoony.

But these two have been through some really tough times together and there is a lot of baggage preventing them from admitting their feelings. But when they do, they do it hardcore and it is so wonderful.

Not only is Chase a worthy friend and lover, but he is also a morally virtuous as he distances himself from Violet as he confidentially investigates the fire that caused her husband’s death. This tells you so much about his character, because Violet and her kiddos are his whole world. I loved this bit of mystery that overarched the romance and the resolution was so wonderfully satisfying. I love when bad guys get their due!

This is a standalone story, but is such a great addition to the Smartypants Romance world. I loved reading about firefighter Forrest again!

The problem with combining a very slow burn with characters who start the book in love with each other is that there isn't anywhere for the story to go. There are only so many times you can replay the inner struggle each character has that keeps them from acting on their feelings before it gets boring. There was some truly lovely stuff here. Violet and Chase have a great dynamic, I loved watching Chase be a dad to Violet's kids, and all the work they did to keep their events business going. But the foundation didn't really work for me, so the whole story suffered.

I don't know if I missed something incredibly obvious, but I have absolutely no clue how these characters even met. They can't know each other from school or have grown up together, because it's mentioned several times that they've known each other for nine years. But how? And why? What was the context? Further, what is Violet even doing in Greenvalley? I don't think she grew up there and there is never even a word about her family. No joke. There is zero backstory. Which is insanely strange to me considering how intertwined the characters of Greenvalley normally are.
Which brings me to the main issue with this book. It's lacking. It lacks tension, suspense, loveable main characters, a clear storyline, and any kind of charm. I'm honestly wondering if the author even wanted to write this book. There is absolutely zero passion in any of it. The main characters don't even spend that much time together. Adding up all of the pages where they are alone together cannot over fifty. Similarly, all of the important happenings are kept very short and sometimes even completely of page. The story mostly just happens in both of their minds which just doesn't work.
The characters themselves are mediocre at best. Chase is Nice Guy™ that keeps lamenting about women not wanting him because he is too nice and women are all into alpha men. He uses these exact words. It is very unintentionally ironic, because not only is the heroine in love with him, but there is another clearly interested party. The latter is just not who he wants, so it doesn't count. It true Nice Guy™ fashion, his misguided believe about being friendzoned isn't just untrue, it is 100% his own fault. For the simple reason that he never even acts. At no point in time does he even initiate something. I'd he expecting women to just flock to him? He has no examples of women turning him down, it's all in his head. And I have to say, if you want to date someone, you do have to actually let them know you want to date them.
Our heroine Violet also let's life just happen to her. And is than mad at the outcome. She never takes the initiative. Wants to get back into dating? Legs just wait until someone asks me out. I don't like the men I'm dating? He should just figure it out and leave me alone. I love someone? He should do something about it. It's exhausting. And self righteous. Without spoiling any of the storyline itself, she goes on a couple of dates and is annoyed about several things the man does. But she never tells him any of this! She gives no feedback, doesn't actively engage, but also doesn't just let him down. It's infuriating. Combining these two characters, I honestly don't know how they even get together. It is a mystery.
Unfortunately the side storyline isn't any better. It doesn't really make sense, it's very clumsily dropped into the main story, and doesn't add anything. It doesn't even particularly keep the story itself moving.
Overall really disappointed in this book. I was initially super excited about getting an ARC, because I generally enjoy Greenvalley books, but this one doesn't fit into the universe at all.

I received an advance copy of this book to read and review. All opinions are my own.

He is a former firefighter who made a high end restaurant and event space after a season of grief. She is a widow raising two children alone while working with her husband's best friend.

Chase left his job as a firefighter after losing his best friend in a forest fire. The months following the loss were filled with grief and mourning. At the same time his parents gave him their family farm which he never wanted. With the help of his best friend's widow, Violet, Chase was able to attend culinary school and open a restaurant and event space on the property.

Violet married her husband on a whim and had a great marriage until he passed away fighting a fire. Not long after his death she gave birth to their second child. Grieving while going through the experience of having a child while raising a toddler was not easy. Her husband's best friend, Chase, was her support system then and still is. Not only is he a wonderful "Uncle" to her two kids, he gave her an opportunity to open a successful business. Somewhere along the way, Violet found herself again and returned to school to finish her degree. Her unrequited crush on her best friend was always there lurking in the friend zone with little to no hope of ever being found.

It is extremely inconvenient to fall in love at first sight and have your best friend marry her. Chase has loved Violet for so many years that he feels like he can never do anything about it. Especially since she is the widow is his best friend and the man Chase feels guilt over years after his death. Working alongside Violet and being her support system is his greatest joy but he can't help but want to mean more to her.

Violet decides to start dating again and Chase is extremely uncomfortable about it. Having a front row seat to watching her date again is torture all while keeping a very big secret from her. The burn is slow but it is steady. But finding a way out of the friend zone means changing everything in a very scary way.

Dual POV, besties to lovers, unrequited love, single parent romance after loss, open door love scene.

SPOILERS

3.5 stars. I just didn't enjoy this one. Sorry. It had potential but the pacing, timing, and climax didn't hit for me. Chase is great but had a feminine energy that didn't match up with his character profile. I loved how he saw Violet and his deep love for her children. I didn't agree with how he handled their communications despite how close they are. It took me over half of the book to realize Violet is a black woman. I wished I would have known that from the beginning because I would have enjoyed it more. Somehow I missed it and had a completely different mental image until I realized it almost 3/4 of the way through. I didn't enjoy the "moment" their feelings were revealed, it is confusing and anticlimactic. I thought it was a fade to black scene. The climax of the book was confusing and awkward. For such a slow burn, the whole moment we were waiting for was actually lacking. The collective of men giving advice was cool in theory but not executed well. The men came across as goofy and emotionally immature though their advice wasn't. Overall I wanted more time of Chase and Violet live on page happy together as a couple. Nice HEA and Epilogue.

I have to start off by saying that I don’t read romance for its realism, I read it because I love to escape to some place away from everyday life. Wild Good Chase is a very romantic story with a few twists that kept it super interesting. This is part of a multi-author series and can be read as a standalone; I haven’t read any of the other books in this series and never felt like I was missing anything.

Chase has been in love with his best friend’s widow since before she married said best friend. Chase feels guilty because he sent his friend to fight the fire that killed him. He also feels guilty because he’s in love with Violet. Now he’s doing everything he can to provide for Violet and her children. Violet loves how Chase takes care of her and her kids but she feels guilty about how much he does for her and she wants to stand on her own.

This story had me feeling all kinds of emotions and that’s the best thing for me when I read. Chase is too good to be true. He’s swoon worthy, well-off financially, loves Violet’s kids and is simply perfect in every way. (And this is why I say that I don’t read romance because it’s realistic.) I absolutely loved how he took care of Violet’s two kids and how much he loved being with them and secretly wanted to become their dad instead of Uncle Chase.

I pretty much loved everything about this story. Kilby Blades is a fairly new-to-me author as I only read my first book by her a few months ago. I devoured her Gilded Love series (super spicy) so I jumped at the chance to receive a review copy of Wild Good Chase. I know I’ll be reading more books by this author.

An advanced copy of this book was provided to me at my request; my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.

I was provided an ARC of this book via the author and Smartypants Romance, all opinions are my own.

As with all of the books in the series this can be read as a standalone. There are characters mentioned from prior books, however you don't need to read those to follow along with the storyline here. This installment focuses Chase who runs a local farm and hosts a successful farm to table supper club. He transitioned to being a chef after taking over the farm and retiring from firefighting after the death of his best friend Todd. When he's not cooking or tending the land, he is spending time with his godchildren and Todd's widow Violet. Chase and Violet have been friends long before she met Todd, and he's always had feelings for her, but he would never betray his best friend even after his death.

Violet has been doing her best to keep it together as a single mom. She feels like she wants to get back out there in the dating world, and now that she is ready to graduate from college she wants to try her hand at running her own business instead of running things on Chase's farm. Chase obviously wants her to stay on as she has made the business a booming success, and from a personal perspective whether platonic or romantic he wants her in his life no matter what. Their lines get crossed when it comes to romantic feelings, especially when Chase is pulled back into firefighting service to investigate the fire that killed Todd due to suspicious circumstances. He can't tell Violet what he's up to, especially because it may impact her own court case with her insurance company. With emotions on high alert they both have to face their grief, as well as their feelings for each other.

I really enjoyed this slow burn romance. It deals with PTSD, loss, grief, and sense of self in such a sensitive and respectful way. Both characters had to pick themselves off the ground and put their lives back together, but they had each other and a good support system to lean on while do it. I also appreciated that they took their time examining their feelings before taking action. If you like a slow burn or a friends to lovers, give this one a read.

Oh my goodness. Chase and Violet had so much history and baggage they needed to deal with. Chase has been in love with Violet forever and when her husband died under Chase's command he was eaten up with guilt. In fact, the only thing that kept in going was making sure Violet and the kids had everything they needed to keep going.

On Violet's end, she's immensely grateful for everything Chase has done to give her time to get back on her feet. Now that things have evened out for her and the kids, she worries that she's taking advantage of Chase's kindness. Which means she plans on hiring her replacement for the farm and setting out on her own.

As plans go, it's not a bad one. BUT...it's the exact opposite of what Chase wants. So with a little advice from his firefighting buddies, Chase sets out to show Violet that he's the man for her. The fact he already loves her kids and knows her almost better than she knows herself is a big plus. He just needs Violet to see him as a man instead of just her deceased husband's best friend. Spoiler: Chase is a big, ole teddy bear and it doesn't take long for these two to get on the same page.

Through all this, Chase is juggling diving into the investigation into the fire that ended his friend's life. Due to the sensitive (and classified) nature of what he's doing, he can't tell Violet what he's working on. Which is another thing weighing on him.

A few lackluster dating experiences, a whole lot of advice on how to win the lady, some sweet kiddos, a man who has to find the courage to reach for what he wants, and a lady who has the man for her in front of her, she just has to open her eyes to see him. *thumbs up*

Wild Goose Chase is a slow burn romance with all the feels. It is book 8 in the series, but can be read as a standalone. I loved this book and the second chance vibe that was woven into the story.

Chase had feelings for Violet when he first met her, but when his friend, Todd steps in and makes a move, Chase walks away so Violet and his friend can find happiness. However when Todd, his friend and fellow firefighter is killed, Chase steps up in every way to support Violet and her two children knowing that is what he needs to do for his friend. He pushes away the romantic thoughts he has for her to focus on giving them everything they need. Violet has feelings for Chase, but pushes those down too. She tries dating, but no one is like Chase. The way he supports her and bonds with her children is fantastically written and I loved that that was a real theme in the story. She works for Chase as an event planner on his farm, while she continues to go to school and pursue her dreams. Chase is supportive with her career and her kids, but he also begins to toss around the idea of going back into firefighting. She is considering leaving her job at the farm. Find out what happens in this story as things get a little crazy!

This was a great second chance, slow burn romance, that gave me all the feels. In my opinion this is one of the best books in the series so far. I love the humility and love the characters have in this book and the writing is superb.

All. The. Goodness.

This book gave all the things I love about a good small town friends to lovers romance and more and it kept me turning the pages to see what would happen next.

It was hard not to love and adore Violet and Chase. They had both gone through some so traumatic that had them spiraling into despair and depression and yet, with the help of their friends and each other, clawed their way out of it. Chase is just a really good, dependable and sweet guy. Violet is a force and her determination to make a good life for her and her kids was awesome.

Their journey was a fun and frustrating one. I loved how deep their friendship was and how they were truly each others biggest fans, but waiting for them to truly acknowledge their feeling for each other - especially Chase - was borderline excruciating and yes, I know they both had their reasons, but still. But I will say that it was pretty epic when they FINALLY said those three little words.

This was a great read. PTSD, trauma and grief are part of the story but it was well balanced out by humor and heart and a dose of spice. I loved hanging out with Chase and Violet’s friends, but my favs were Bri and Trey, they really brought so many great moments to story, though I wouldn’t mind Jules getting her own HEA down in the future.

Chase Greenleaf promised his best friend Todd that he would always look out for his family. When Todd tragically died in a firefighting accident, Chase took his promise seriously and made sure that Violet and her two kids always had everything they needed. It didn’t matter to Chase that he had been pining for Violet since before she ever even met Todd. Being near her and her kids was the only thing that mattered to him. When Violet’s case against the insurance company turns in a different direction, Chase has to revisit the worst incident of his life and finally decide if risking rejection is better than living in the friendzone.

Wild Goose Chase is book 8 in the Green Valley Heroes series that has multiple authors contributing. It can be read alone but I’ve read quite a few of the Penny Reid books set in Green Valley so had a basic understanding of the town.

I really enjoyed this! I love pining and Chase was pining so hard for Violet from the start. I felt frustrated by her obliviousness at points but it all worked out in the end.

The mystery elements were really interesting and tied the story together well. The courtroom scene was so sweet though it was quite unrealistic and might bother anyone who works in the law for that reason.

I’d definitely recommend this one and really I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve ever read from Smartypants Romance!

This is my absolute favorite troupe. (I’m not actually sure it is a troupe) But, I love when the best friend or brother falls in love with a widow, especially when children are involved. There is something about the emotional ties to the deceased and the widow trying to move on and the brother or friend being a pseudo dad to the children. Ugh be still my heart. The angst gets me every single time. All of my favorite books are this. I want my heartstrings pulled, I want to cry and I want to anticipate you two realizing that you were meant to be together. So when I read the blurb I knew this book was meant for me. Now Chase is the original nice guy or cinnamon roll. He is so sweet, kind, he’s a great cook, he’s the whole package so why isn’t Violet jumping on him? Violet’s husband died almost 8 years ago in a fire, he worked along side Chase and he feels responsible for her husband’s death. I wanted to love this book so much but it lacked the angst I needed. It was good story and there is a mystery all tied up in the fire and a court case. The story was a slow burn but it just didn’t hit me where I wanted it too. The story focuses on mental health and getting over a loss and it does a great job discussing how people adjust after a loss. This is a slow burn with little spice, but maybe more spice would have given me more angst. Its a good small town romance book.

Wild Goose Chase is the first book I've read in the Green Valley Heroes series and honestly the first book I've read by Kilby Blades and I really enjoyed it. I have previously read books that are set in this universe, Penny Reid's Winston, so there was already a familiarity to this book despite having never read Kilby's work before. From the first page I was obsessed with Chase. I loved how much you could tell he loved Violet, and how he'd always loved her, and her kids. I also can't get over how much I enjoy the idea of his restaurant/venue at his farm, the Noble Pig, it just sounds like such a delicious place to eat.
Violet was also a great character because she also CLEARLY was in love with Chase but she didn't want to rock the boat and she'd relied on him so much after her husband passed. Every time she was on page with Chase there was just so much chemistry between them.

Another wonderful story set in the Green Valley universe. Too bad it isn't real, since I'd certainly love to see the beautiful scenery and meet some of the terrific people who live there. Ms. Blades does a great job bringing all of it to life, and her ability to bring the reader into the tense emotional lives of Chase and Violet is equally amazing. In addition to all this, there is even some crime-mystery type suspense added to the mix. Sometimes a slow burn romance is just too slow for me, but this story had just the right pace with lots of activities for the reader to dive into. Violet's children, Bri and Trey, were the adorable "scene stealers" that children often are. The cast of secondary characters included a group known as the Secret Poker Society, who served as something of a Greek chorus/advisory board to Chase, a plot device I appreciated. I never doubted that Chase and Violet would reach their HEA, but the story had plenty of twists to keep me wondering. I haven't read all of the other Green Valley Heroes novels yet, and I didn't feel I was missing anything as I read this one. I am definitely inspired to catch up on the rest of the crowd!

I requested this ARC and volunteered to leave a review.

Another beautiful story with its small-town backdrop, Green Valley.

This is a heartfelt second chance romance between Chase and Violet. Violet lost her husband in a wildfire, and Chase, being her husband’s best friend, took over his responsibilities ever since. He’s an ex-firefighter who owns a farm, aka a peach garden! I have soft spots for these!

It’s clear that Chase is being handed a platter to finally confess his love for Violet. I love seeing this man and his raw feelings, admitting even to himself that confessing his love for Violet is not an easy feat.

It’s obvious with his dedication towards Violet’s children. Whatever this man is willing to do for love.

Violet finally realises her true feelings for Chase, and she’s been guilt-tripped over Chase and his sacrifices for her family. But deep down, love always wins.

I appreciate Blade for including a light thriller in this book. I don’t want to spill the beans for you all, but it adds a much-needed kick with all things firefighters.

This is a sweet, cosy slow burn that I truly enjoyed.

A solid 4 stars!

Four years after her husband Todd’s death while fighting a wildfire, Violet decides to start dating again. All these years her focus had been on bringing up her two kids, Bri and Trey, while working for Chase as an events coordinator.

Chase has always been a good friend to her. He was also her husband’s best friend and also godfather to both kids. Despite their mutual attraction, Chase has ended up being in the friend zone. He is a cinnamon roll hero who literally bakes cinnamon rolls! 😍

With Violet’s plan to start dating again and to kickstart her own business, Chase finally realises that he needs to fight for her this time. I loved those poker night advice from the guys and dear Jules, thanks for the additional punchline to get Chase moving!

Besides the main romance plot, the mystery behind Todd’s death also helped to keep the pace interesting. Similar to the author’s dedication to firefighters, I would like to salute all firefighters too. Thanks for saving lives and rushing in even when it’s dangerous!

It’s finally here! And in my brain! I now know how Chase finally ends up with his lady love! And y’all it was so worth the wait!

Chase and Violet are lobsters ( friends reference) and that is all I need to say about that.
The way Kilby handled the best friend's widow, grief/ guilt is masterful. Violet’s decease husband was never a bad guy he was simply not the only man for Violet the lucky lady. She is one of the few who gets to have two great loves in a life time.

These fictional people that Kilby’s brain made are people I want to know and that right there is what makes her writing special.

I loved every second of this book, from the mutual pinning to the circling to the final bang these two and their loved ones will keep you engaged and entertained to the very last page.

Thank you Kilby for the bata and advanced copies your batas are always so polished I never have notes. While bias, all opinions are my own and are not influenced by my love for the Human who made this book.

It's always a cozy feeling being back in Green Valley! It seriously warms my heart. I love this place and the people in it.

This secondish chance (it's what I'm calling it), small town romance, did not disappoint.

Chase Greenleaf, the good guy, the guy that will always be there. He will drop what he is doing to help anyone. Particularly his best friends wife and her two kids. He's been in love with Violet LaRue for a very long time, and he may be losing her. She might be leaving him, and that can't happen, not this time.

Violet LaRue is a solo mother to two wonderful children. She's an event planner on Chase's farm, going to school to be an interior designer and trying to move on from the death of her husband. She is also crushing in her long-time friend Chase Greenleaf. The man who is always there for her and her kids.

This was a sweet, wholesome story that I expectedly ate up. I love these sweet smalltown stories.

This is the 8th book in the Green Valley Heros series.

Thank you, Valentine PR and Kilby Blades, for the ARC in turn for an honest review.

No pun intended, the burn was too slow for me and it took too long for the first kiss to happen between Violet LaRue and Chase Greenleaf. Violet was a widow raising two kids after the death of her firefighter husband. Despite his own grief Chase (Todd was his best friend) was there for her from day one (Chase actually saw/knew her first). In flashbacks, we learn how devastating Todd's death was and I kept wondering where was Todd's parents—were they dead, they weren't, strangely, even Violet's parents were MIA.

Overall, this story is warm and engaging story—add in two cute kids, other man drama, the firefighter brotherhood, a farm, a nasty insurance company, good food and drinks, girlfriend-time and weddings and it all adds up to a tasty recipe, for a good book.

Highly Recommended: Read It!

Be sure to check out, Young Buck which is one of my favorite stories written by this author. Happy Reading!

Are you a Pennyverse fan? If you are, this book is for you. If you aren’t, and want to learn more about the Pennyverse, message me and I will tell you all about the goodness of Smartypants romance books and Penny Reid.

Kilby Blades closes the series of Green Valley Heroes such a cute and sweet romance that I found myself all cozy when finishing the last page.

Chase is such a cinnamon roll guy that you instantly fall in love with his character. Violet is a smart and strong woman that you find yourself in awe of all the brilliant things she can do as a single mom, business woman, and student. Both have fallen for each other but neither are bold enough to admit it so they skip around the topic but are constant in each other’s life.

I felt Wild Goose Chase was the perfect amount a friendship that adds a dash of pining for each other, an unveiling of the truth, and a sweet side of romance.

Chase has never been able to overcome the guilt he feels about the passing of his best friend or the feelings he has always had for Violet his wife. The driving force in his life was to be there for Violet and her children and is willing to accept whatever part he can play in their lives. Realizing that he could love the people he loves most choices must be made.

Since her husband passed away a family unit had been created that included her, her children and Chase but Violet never really understood that. Chase plays such an important part in her life, but it is only when she decides to change the status quo that they will acknowledge how they truly feel about each other.

I enjoyed the evolution of both these characters and their relationship as they take us on a heartfelt journey as they make peace with the past so that they can finally have the happiness they both deserve.

Smartypants Universe is my favorite place and I love the Green Valley Heroes series. Kilby always gives us amazing characters, in beautiful settings who are dealing with real life situations.

This small town, slowwww burn, and best friends widow is so amazing, heartfelt and filled with so much love.

Chase is such a good man, he’s amazing with Violet and her kids and is fiercely protective. He’s holding onto so much guilt…he feels he doesn’t deserve happiness with the one woman he has always loved.

Violet is an amazing mama who is still mourning the loss of her husband. She has feelings for Chase but is scared to tell him for fear of ruining their friendship.

Chase and Violet have so many beautiful moments, amazing banter, flirty and delightful conversations and so much love for one another. Once they allow themselves to give into their feelings..a beautiful love story unfolds.

A heartfelt and fantastic read!!

Kilby has once again wooed me with her characters their actions and her way with words. Wild Goose Chase will check all your boxes if you are a lover of a slow burn, a bit forbidden romance and friends to lover's trope.
Chase has always loved Violet, but his best friend had fallen harder first. When Chase loses his friend and fellow firefighter in the line of duty, he vows to not leave Violet and her children's side.
Violet lost her love but always had a wonderful friend and when her husband is taken too soon, she soon realizes how loyal and faithful Chase is. As the years pass, they work together, they take care of all the things family together the lines of that friendship soon become blurry but in such a wonderful way! This had wonderful friends, great banter, wonderful supporting characters, a bit of intrigue and adorable children that will capture your heart!

This is my first book to read by Kilby Blades and I am inlove with Chase, Violet, and her 2 children! Their story is so beautifuly woven! I realize this book is a part of a series and although I have not read the others I was able to read this as a standalone. The way these two helped eachother through a tragic part of their lives and formed such a strong bond has me swooning and at times frustrated lol. This has become an absolute top favorite on my list and I can't wait to read the other parts of this series and more from Kilby! There is honestly so much more to this story than just their struggles and love for each other. I love how Kilby touched on so many real subjects in this story, she did a wonderful job.

Thank you so much Kilby Blades and Valentine PR for the Arc and a chance to read this beautiful story in return for my honest opinions and review
