Psych Investigation Episodes: Episode 1

Rate this book
Jack Harris thought failing math was the worst thing that ever happened to him.

That was before he discovered he had superpowers. Before he became the prime suspect in a series of murders.

After a surprise homework check sends Jack into a panic, he awakens an uncontrollable force that sets his classroom on fire, putting him in the crosshairs of a pair of similarly-gifted murderers—and a group of investigators pursuing them.

With a team of secret police shadowing his every move, and two homicidal maniacs trying to recruit him, Jack’s lazy lifestyle shatters around as him he’s forced to enter a dangerous world he never wanted to be a part of. If that wasn't enough, the hottest babe in school just agreed to be his tutor, and she’s coming over tonight! If Jack can meet the challenge of impressing the girl of his dreams, then surely taking on a pack of raving, super-powered murderers will be a cinch—unless his mom grounds him first.

Psych Investigation Episodes combines humor with the more serious themes of bullying and isolation. The story chronicles Jack as he plunges headfirst into a secret organization filled with hidden agendas and mysterious powers.

I absolutely love this book and have no hesitation in recommending it for you to buy. It is original and so damn funny, even on my bad days Kevin Weinbergs characters and storyline made me laugh. Which is no easy task.

The main character Jack is ur average lazy teenager. watches alot of tv, plays xbox and goes to the extreme to get out of doing what he classes as boring. But very soon life changes for Jack and he finds himself thrown into a world of good vs evil with hilarious and sometimes disastrous results.

This story is action packed, extremely well written and did I mention really funny :D The author writes with such great detail that as Im reading I can actual picture the scene in my head. The characters are easy to relate to. Its set in the present day.

Jack sounds a bit like my 2 teenage boys. Maybe thats why they like reading this book aswell. They dont normally read and came to find out what I was laughing at. They both kept off their xbox, and tv long enough to read the whole book through their own choice. Believe me that is truly rare. So I would say this story definitely would appeal to teenagers and adults.

I was lucky enough to read this for free but its so damn good Ive bought the kindle version(where more reviews are) and now I bought the paperback for our bookcase.

First, you need to know that I'm not a reader. I hate reading. It's boring and the story usually sucks by the end. So, what little books I have tried, I usually don't finish. They lack the proper character development, the emotion, the humor and atmosphere that keeps a brutally honest critic like me going. This book, however, was different.

I literally haven't read--no, finished--a book in 3 years. Weinberg's PIE changed that. Why? Because he is a true artist and magician of words. I've never read something so terrifyingly beautiful since the Count of Monte Cristo my freshman year. That's saying something, right? This book was amazing.

What drew me in would have to be Weinberg's excellent display of character development. When I first started reading about Jack Harris, I couldn't stop! He was the most unique, genuine, down to earth character I've met in my entire life of reading! As a writer, I know that it's ideal to make the characters in your book as realistic as possible, and to be quite honest, I think that Jack and all Weinberg's other characters could very well appear in real life. There's not one thing I didn't like about these fictional people, either. In fact, I even liked the villains! They were so cruel and sadistic, maniacal even, but not so much that they couldn't exist in our own world. In fact, everything about Weinberg's PIE is so realistic and cleverly plotted that I wouldn't be surprised if his made up world was real.

Kevin Weinberg is a talented, young author that's always had the dream to write like the pros. Well, he's finally made it! Even though he may not be published by any of the "Big 6," I sincerely believe that what he's written here is worthy of standing at their level.

Please, give this story a chance. I promise--no, I guarantee--that by the time you read that final sentence, you'll be begging Weinberg for more.

Great fun read. But don't lead it to your children. Let them buy their own copy or you'll never get it back.

I picked this book on someone's recommendation and I never slept that night. I hardly ate anything while reading it for the fear of spilling it as I jumped so many times out of my chair due to fear for characters, thrilling fight scenes and of course the sheer hilariousness of Jack's character. Jack's stupidity makes you want to slam your head on the desk, but then again his morals make you love him. Each character imprints themselves in your mind and stays even after you turn the last page.

P.I.E is by far one of the most amazing stories I've come across. This book has re-kindled my love of reading, it sparks a movie in my imaginations with every chapter. I recommend this to all types of readers. It has a bit of reality, a bit of fantasy, a LOT of comedy, a LOT of seriousness, there is crime, mystery, and tons of action. I love this and it will remain my favorite read.

I think Kevin Weinberg has a unique voice. I don't read a lot of stories where the main character lies, cheats, is lazy and is unapologetic about it. I think it's pretty cool. The horrible murder of that old lady was also convincingly done.
As a Buffyfan, I really liked Requiem. She reminded me a lot of Drusilla.

I got this book for free and will definitely buy more. I was hooked right on the first page of reading sample. That's exactly the way it should be. I devoured the book in only two days and regretted that I had to set it aside to sleep, feed the kids and work.

The main character, Jack Harris, is hilarious (beware, he's got the kind of attitude toward school you hope your kids won't have) with a small amount of common sense. The other characters are likable (except for the villains of course, although their motives were well thought out and presentend too). The seemingly black and white morale I found annoying at first soon turned into a more sinister moos, showing that not everything that's "on the right side" is also right. Kudos to the author.

I found this a wonderful novel and highly recommend it to young adults older than 16 (there are some rather violent scenes in the book that will disturb younger readers especially if they're got a vivid imagination).

This book kept me up all night! I couldn't put it down. The main character is just a normal boy or a least thats what he thinks untill he finds himself a murder suspect. Things get a little crazy for him from there on but the way he handles things will always make you smile. A very funny and well thought out story with great charactets you'll come to love. I can't wait to read more from this promising young author.

P. I. E. is definitely worth reading, whether you think you like sci-fi or not. The plot is interesting, the characters are real, and something about the story pulls you in and makes you want more. I can honestly say that I've never read anything quite like P. I. E., but I am so glad that I gave it a shot, as it was completely worth it.

I dont know what to say about this book. I wanted to like it, I really did, but no matter how hard I tried, it wouldn't happen. I guess some books are just like that. I know I don't like to write bad reviews, but come on. I as an individual couldn't relate to the characters, and the story line was hard to get in to. that's part of the reason it took me so long to push through this.

I found this at the back of my Kindle and I assume I brought it five-odd years ago.
Siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh.
I love found families. I love couples who bicker constantly. I love characters who are insanely powerful and have literally no use for it whatsoever. This book is a smorgasboard of tropes that appeal to me. However. This is. So incredibly rough. It reminded me of things I've read that middle schoolers have written-- there are certain distinctive amateur marks such as the constant emotional flip-flopping of the main character, the rough and vaguely chauvinistic handling of female characters, the jokes never quite being funny, all of existence bending around the main character, always, and Psych always teeters on the line where a lot of this is clearly meant to be intentional, but not as a parody but as an integrated part of its world. An older author could have pulled it off and produced something great, and I'm sure from the comments that a lot of people are fond of what was pulled off here, but it's hard for me to get invested in a story when every page there's something that would slam the breaks for me in any more polished work. Especially the ending. Oh god there's this one bit at the ending that's entirely handwaved and I can't see it and its total lack of build up as anything but evidence that a lot of this book exists on "and then" logic. Jack just kind of does what he wants and everyone else's job is to enable him I'm dyiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing

I absolutely LOVE this series.
I have SEVERAL reasons why.
1) The plot is complex throughout the series but not so complex that it will confuse you.
2) Jack is a character that most people would love. I personally will say that he's on the top three of my favorite characters of all time.
3) There are so many surprises. You'll always be on the edge of your seat
4) (Favorite Reason Why) You can tell that the sequels of this book are actual continuations. You don't have to remind yourself that this is the same series over and over like I did for many book series.
5) THERE IS SO MUCH COMICAL RELIEF. There are very serious parts that would make me feel empty for days if there wasn't any comic relief.
6) There are so many references that I understand and it feels nice knowing that this author put in several references (Including Dragon Ball Z and Pokemon) and that when he puts a nerd in as a character in a book the character is actually into things that an actual nerd in reality would know.
7) Jack is the main character BUT a large majority of the side characters around him actually have incredibly interesting, complex and not cliche back stories. Jack actually has not that much of a complex background unless you count his parents'.
8) Jack is not a "Gary Stu." Basically meaning, that he's not the stereotypical hero or protagonist, he doesn't get the girl right away or maybe not even at all and he doesn't have the generic; personality, physical appearance and or family. Jack is powerful BUT he has major flaws that set him back. A Gary Stu would be like a prodigy or has minor setbacks but overcomes them quickly. Jack isn't. Like at all. Jack has several flaws like any human being in real life.
9) The author know how to press your buttons through the plot. I personally feel that if an author knows how to push your buttons then they're a good author. If an author makes me angry at a character I believe that the author knows what they're doing and thinking of what would set off the reader.
10) There is a lot of character development, but no so much that they're personality is completely flipped. In reality if a person's personality changes a lot there is still a LOT that hasn't. You are able to tell it's them even if they did change for the better or worse. I have read several books where at the end the characters' personality changes so much that you have to remember that they're the same person.

I have millions of reasons why I love this book but these are only ten! I believe that Kevin Weinburg did such an amazing with this WHOLE book series. And this is only the first book. To those who plan on reading this I hope you love this series and the first book as much as me. Also, IT'S WORTH THE MONEY. I know they don't have it sold in stores and only the first book is in print and only sold on Amazon and e-book while the rest of the series are e-book only but it will be worth the money. I was hesitant at first I haven't regretted it once.

I DON'T LIKE SCI-FI!!!
With that said, I must say this is one of the funniest stories I have read. The good thing about this book is that the writer (Kevin Weinberg)doesn't take himself too serious. The characters are very well written, the storyline is quite interesting and i literally couldn't put down my android when i started reading this book.

I must repeat I DON'T LIKE SCI-FI !!! But, i came to really like this book. I don't know .This book is about metahumans ( superpowered, superhumans, (i don't know what word to use ) called Psychs. There are four distinct categories of Psychs and they are Reinforcers , Telepaths, Manipulators and Kinetics. Kinetics use telekinesis, Telepaths (well the name itself explains it ), Manipulators manipulate (oh really... manipulators manipulate... ty captain obvious) matter, they can melt your face off, destroy matter blah blah blah and the Reinforcers, are really strong and can withstand a lot of damage. The main character is Jack Harris. A hopeless, but loveable idiot. And i mean it ... he really is an idiot. So what happens when an idiot founds out he has the ability to use all four kind of powers? Well idiotic things happen . I will recommend this book to anyone who wants to get a good laugh out of a book, because Kevin Weinberg made me howl with laughter with this book.

Psych Investigation Episodes is one of those incredibly rare books that will have you edging and laughing in your seat--at the same time!

I read the whole series (I'm still in the middle of book 6) on Wattpad and I have been incredibly indulged by Kevin's characters and storyline. He is an incredibly talented writer and should be recognized by lots of companies. And he loves all his readers a lot!

Jack Harries is an incredibly fleshed-out three-dimensional character that you will come to love, hate, want to just bundle him up in your arms during his saddest moments, and all of that stuff. Fighting against bad guy Psychs--Kevin's version of metahumans--isn't what he signed up for, but it leads him down a path that helps him figure out who he is and who he is meant to be. It's about growing up and facing the real world, and I believe that a lot of the young adults today can relate to him a lot because he goes through things a normal teenager go through (besides the part where he has so much superpowers, hell yeah!).

I suggest you get to reading all six books because the journey becomes funnier, more suspenseful, and incredibly interesting! He is currently writing the next book of the (I think he mentioned ten?) series called "Foxes I".

After reading this, you'll want to join Jack and the Foxes. Foxes forever!

I remember reading this on Wattpad years ago and waiting for him to release the next chapter every week like they were episodes of a tv show. His writing style and well placed comedy is phenomenal and it really captivated me as a reader.

It seems the author is a fan of Naruto himself from the frequent references. Unfortunately, it also seems that the author has basically copy and pasted personalities from the anime into his book. Jack Harris, the main character, is a white boy modern version of Naruto. Bullied, aloof, annoying, and surprisingly compassionate and kind. Melissa is an even more annoying and tsundere Sakura. Pretty, aggressive (annoyingly so in this novel), and relatively useless. You can't go more than 10 pages in this novel without thinking "Thank you for screaming at everyone the obvious, Melissa." or "Go away, Melissa. Stop slapping Jack."

Every other character in this novel appears to never have met anyone who isn't extremely normal and boring as they gawk at everything and anything Jack does. "JACK WANTS TO SLEEP EVEN AFTER LEARNING ABOUT ALL THESE SUPER POWERS? WHO IS THIS KID WOW SO UNIQUE WOW AMAZING NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT MY MIND IS BLOWN THIS IS A CHARACTER WORTH RISKING MY LIFE OVER."

Thank you for the 205 pages I managed to read of white Naruto and Sakura in America with different super powers. Truly captivating fan fiction.

I bought the ebook on Amazon when it was announced on Wattpad, and it was a great experience to read it all over again knowing I now own a copy of a really good book. Jack's adventures and the way he thinks may offend others but it's exactly what's endearing about him; that nonchalant strength that he's just starting to discover, his naivete, quick humor, and his innocence. When he shows how powerful he is, I get giddy with excitement because I get see/read cool adventures because of the show in his strength that he almost always doesn't know he naturally possess. I think the author was also generous in letting the Wattpad users read his books 2 and 3 for free at the moment while it's still not published. All in all, I recommend this to everyone and I hope you also join in Jack's adventures.

An amazing book about a teenager who discovers his hidden powers in more then one way and learns to deal with his life in a new way which he never thought existed.

If you love science fiction, fantasy, urban fantasy, this book is a must read. The writer has poured his heart and soul into this book and you can see a reflection of what's good and right in this book. It's amazing in more ways than just one. I have read this book so many times that I have almost memorized the whole story.

I am not going to tell you the story and spoil it for you. Get this book and read it and don't stop till the end!

My friend recommended this book for me the first day I joined wattpad. Since then, there has never been a dull moment.

I advice that when you want to read this book make sure your alone, I can guarantee that you will LAUGH OUT LOUD so hard people will call the psychiatrist.

The plot is well thought out, each of the characters are well developed and I am more than grateful to my friend for the recommendation.

That's why I am recommending it to you. Go but it right away.

This is a brilliantly funny book. Meet Jack Harris, a lethargic teenager who's engrossed in Magic: The Gathering, Naruto and TV. But what happens when he discovers he has super powers and sets his classroom on fire accidentally? Or that there's murders happening in his neighborhood he might be framed for? This is one of the best books I've read, and I just finished it for the third time.

P.I.E is by far one of the most exciting stories I've come across in the last year. The characters are brilliantly described, each adding their own bit of magic to the book. Its packed with adventure, which can often make a book "messy", but not in this case. Would recommend this to anyone who enjoys having their imagination tweaked.
