Meanwhile, Clare discovers newfound strength within herself as she delves deeper into the immortal world. Embracing her identity as a light-bearer, she grapples with the question of her own humanity amidst the chaos surrounding her.
And then there's Adrian, racing against the clock to eradicate the vampire threat looming over the city. But as he battles both external foes and the hunger gnawing at him from within, he wonders if the changes he's undergoing are a permanent transformation or merely temporary.

There’s an underground war in Richmond, VA, between the vampires and shapeshifters, and J.E. Kraft drops us right in the middle of the action. Hang on, because you’re in for a ride on the wild side! But as action-packed as this urban fantasy is, there is just as much depth of character and artistry in the writing. It’s not your run-of-the-mill vampire book. Many say this is the series for people who don’t think they like vampires, and I believe that to be true. There is a fresh take on the lore, but not much gore. If you’re sensitive to the latter, it’s corralled within a few pages here and there. It can be skimmed to get the gist of which characters prevail; however, with Kraft’s prose, I wouldn’t want to miss a word. Tucked into all the action that keeps you turning the pages is character growth as each main finds their footing in their world within ours, and those characters jump off the page. (Be careful. Most aren’t human.) If you’re new to The Survivors Series, you may need a chapter or two to catch up on the who’s who and what’s going on but do yourself a favor and go read the first book, too. (Conveniently, it’s called THE SURVIVORS.) Once you’ve read both, you’ll be clamoring for the third. Don’t worry: THE DARK HOURS leaves breadcrumbs to lure us to another installment, but resolves enough to be satisfying. Why are you still reading this? GO BUY THIS SERIES!
"Wow. This book had me on the edge of my seat, keeping me up late into the night, unable to put it down. Even though I'm usually not into vampire stories, this one completely blew me away. It's in a league of its own. Highly recommended!"
The story only got better in this sequel and I found myself on the edge of my seat NEEDING to know what happens. We get to know the ensemble of characters on a deeper level and the fantasy world between vampires and therians comes to life. Highly recommend!
Somehow better than the first. Kraft has a beautifully way of writing these characters that kept me engaged. The story is also riveting, I couldn't put the book down. Highly recommend!
This book was so deliciously good. The characters are 3 dimensional, their actions never completely predictable. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. The ending left me with so many questions and I don't know how I'm going to weather the time until the next book! Also I just need more of these characters in my life- especially Clare, Adrian, and Miriam!
