"A celebration, a collaboration...a collective offering" – Bernardine Evaristo
What is a border? And what lies between?
In this tribute anthology to Benjamin Zephaniah told through prose, poetry, and everything in between, twenty-six emerging writers from Brunel University consider key themes of home, belonging, love, and identity by exploring the borders that bind and divide us.
All of BLA's profits from made from Borderless will be donated to Inquest charity, which Benjamin Zephaniah was a patron of. Find out more about Inquest at
A wonderful read to close out the year. This anthology is a thoughtful exploration of borders through a variety of lenses - forced migration, politics, physical distance, and loss to name just a few. Each writer brings their own perspective and voice to these pieces, leading to a beautiful amalgamation of experiences, views, and writing styles. This was a gift to read and I am happy to have it on my shelf.
As a reader who also has a background in migration studies, I think the audience for this is vast - from uni students to curious people looking to sink into a wonderful mix of literary pieces for a while.
One of my favorite snippets by Sundus Hassan-Nooli is below. "Often you look up and lock eyes with toy soldiers. And you never know who's more sinful."
