Rookie Rebels #9

Hockey Wife

Rate this book
"I need us to stay married, Big Guy."

Recently traded to the Chicago Rebels, hockey veteran Dylan “Banks” Bankowski is adjusting to what might be his last team and his final year in the NHL. That means taking care of his battered body while he strives for the one goal that’s managed to elude him: a championship ring. What he does not need is a visit from the woman to whom he gave a different kind of ring months ago.

His young, flighty, socialite wife.

Apparently, signing the annulment papers within a week of their quickie wedding in Vegas didn’t quite take, and now she’s back, right before the playoffs when he needs his focus most. Only this time she has a different request: let’s keep up the charade. He should say no, but he once said “I do” and surely that means something …

Georgia Goodwin has good reasons for wanting to keep her hockey player husband. Convincing the big lug to cooperate is the easy part. Not so easy? Ignoring the flutter in her chest when he grunts in jock, kisses her neck, or calls her wife. But it’s only for a few weeks, and as soon as the playoffs finish, so will they.

But the more time Georgia and Banks spend together, the more real their marriage feels. Less Vegas mistake, and more like the start of something amazing. They said goodbye once. Can they do it again … or will they figure out that a love this good is worth fighting for as much as that championship ring?

Tropes: Accidentally married, age gap, grumpy x sunshine, forced proximity, only one bed, fake kisses turned real, hockey player & Chicago socialite, big guy & petite gal, “my wife” moments galore

Read if you like: Accidentally married, age gap, grumpy x sunshine, forced proximity, only one bed, fake kisses turned real, hockey player & Chicago socialite, big guy & petite gal, “my wife” moments galore.

📚 "I need us to stay married, Big Guy." A quickie wedding in Vegas leads to more than just a hangover for hockey star Dylan “Banks” Bankowski and his young, socialite wife, Georgia Goodwin. Banks thought the annulment was a done deal, but Georgia is back—and with a bold request. Play the role of her husband just a little longer. With the playoffs approaching and his career on the line, Banks agrees. But as the weeks go by, their fake marriage begins to feel all too real. Can these two unlikely partners figure out that the love they share might just be the real deal?

👨‍👧 Main characters: Dylan "Banks" Bankowski is your classic grump with a heart of gold, a hockey star nearing the end of his career, who’s ready to settle things off the ice. Georgia Goodwin may seem like she has everything—wealth, looks, status—but she's navigating family pressures and a yearning for genuine connection. Their dynamic is explosive, with Banks' gruff charm meeting Georgia's warmth and determination.

💞 Romance: The chemistry between Banks and Georgia is electric, with "only one bed" moments, fake kisses that start to mean more, and plenty of emotional unraveling along the way. Their journey from accidental to deeply intentional marriage is laced with tension, passion, and moments that will leave you smiling. The slow burn is sweet and spicy, with each character pushing the other toward vulnerability and love.

👧 Side characters: Kate Meader does a fantastic job bringing secondary characters into the fold. As with her other books, the supporting cast adds depth to the story, whether it's Dylan's teammates or Georgia's circle. They create a lively backdrop of humor, friendship, and heartfelt moments that make this story even more special.

✍️ Writing: Meader's signature style is all here—smart, witty dialogue paired with emotionally rich scenes. Her ability to weave complex characters into relatable, feel-good romances is a joy. And for those who’ve followed her Rookie Rebels series, there are delightful callbacks that make the world feel full and interconnected.

🌟 General overview: If you love hockey romance with heart, heat, and humor, "Hockey Wife" will be an absolute treat. Dylan and Georgia’s story is both fun and heartfelt, as they navigate what it means to truly be partners—on and off the ice. This story was perfectly written and was just the right amount of everything you are looking for.

📲 QOTD: If you accidentally married someone in Vegas, would you go with the flow or get an annulment?👇

Kate Meader has been writing hockey-mance books before it was cool. From her OG Chicago Rebels series to the Rookie Rebels, she has crafted a franchise that is true to the hockey part, but is also this great big glorious found family. Full of humor, emotion and spice, the latest installment of the Rookie Rebels, Hockey Wife is pure magic!

I loved Georgia and Banks story! Opposites in a lot of ways, they have an undeniable chemistry that pops off the page. (This is one of Kate’s superpowers.) A quickie Vegas wedding isn’t a great idea, but it can & absolutely does work here.

Hockey Wife is another fantastic stand alone hockey romance in the Chicago Rebels world. If you are a fan of a grumpy sunshine pair with a spontaneous Vegas wedding, you’ll adore Kate Meader’s fake-relationship-turns-real story that’s tons of fun to read.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Hockey player Dylan “Banks” Bankowski and socialite Georgia Goodwin just happen to meet in a Las Vegas bar. They hit it off so well that they end up married a few hours later. But Georgia gets cold feet, and Dylan is annoyed when he wakes up alone the next morning. Months later, when Georgia finds Dylan again in Chicago, she asks him if they can stay married for bit longer for, well, reasons. Dylan is ready to say no, but when his sisters tell him how happy his grandmother is that he’s finally found someone, he agrees. The more time these two spend together, though, the more real their marriage starts to feel.

I adore an “oops we’re married after one night in Vegas” story. Hockey Wife is done so well, focusing on Georgia and Dylan’s connection; in fact, he’s only upset because he woke up alone the next day, and he wanted her to stay. Meanwhile, Georgia is battling her own past while becoming more and more protective of her husband.

This light, steamy hockey romance hits just right. While both Dylan and Georgia are more serious people, it has all the steam and humor that I expect from a Kate Meader book. The couple’s obvious connection is apparent from the start; by the time Dylan gets around to calling her “my wife,” their chemistry is off the charts.

And while this book is a stand alone, it’s a blast for longtime fans to revisit the other Rebels players. The team’s found family is just what Dylan needs to figure out all those confusing feelings.

Hockey Wife has all the elements I adore about a Kate Meader hockey romance. If you are a fan of a grumpy sunshine, married in Vegas romance, with teammates as found family too, you’ll have a great time with this story.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I got the ARC from Ms. Meader and I am so grateful!

This was a very fun book and I enjoyed every word of it. We got glimpses of what was happening here in Dex's book, but I loved reading it from Georgia's and Banks' POV.

Georgia seems to be a poor little rich girl, but that's not it at all. She's unfortunately a people's pleaser and always trys to make everyone around her happy. Banks is grumpy, but with a heart of gold.

I loved seeing past characters and spending time with them. Overall I couldn't put this book down!

That moment when common sense takes a back seat and the gloves are off for a HEA sets the stage for Kate Meader's Hockey Wife for a charming read!

Dylan “Banks” Bankowski was a hockey star coming to the end of his career. With a grumpy disposition hiding a kind heart this guy was ripe for love. Georgia Goodwin seemingly had it all but in reality what she had was held over her head by the conditions set by those who were supposed to love her. There was a sweet and tenderhearted side to Georgia that when encouraged shined and brought out the best not only in her but everyone she touched with it.

Dylan and Georgia gradually bridged all the gaps in their relationship from their social status to their ages to realize they were more than compatible. This couple had a lot to unravel and their process was as painful as it was joyful in the end. The spice factor with this pair was high and their emotional and physical attraction kept up throughout this story. Dylan and Georgia's ability to surprise each other in a good way was a nice piece to this story.

Always present in Ms. Meader's stories is the incredible connection her supporting friendships and family have making for some lively interactions and heartfelt moments. This author's skill at building her previous characters over time into her current works is fun and something to look forward to when reading her series. Kate Meader shares stories that are sensitive and inclusive making them memorable and touching. Hockey Wife adds another couple to the Rookie Rebel's world to fall in love with!

*I was given an advanced copy. All opinions expressed are my own.*
*While part of a series this book can be read as a stand alone.*

I loved Banks and Georgia’s age gap, opposites attract, steamy chemistry, hockey romance. A Vegas marriage of convenience with loads of heart, charismatic characters, and plenty of on ice action with his quirky teammates and Georgia bonding with their significant others. I had such great empathy for Georgia’s fractured heart and the constant negative criticism of her parents. The only thing missing was an honest conversation where Georgia reveals her inner turmoil at being cast aside because of her sister’s illness. I really would have loved to see that issue addressed. But the slow burn steamy attraction between Banks and Georgia is the best and it kept me engrossed from start to finish.

I love this series and author so much that I could barely wait to open this book once it landed on my Kindle. The moment I had the time, I cracked it open and pretty much fell immediately in love with Banks and Georgia.

Kate Meader is a phenomenal writer. She has a way of making her characters come alive and their chemistry feel electric. Banks and Georgia might be opposites but they definitely attract—each other and all the feels from me.

HOCKEY WIFE is by turns funny and lighthearted, sexy and spicy, and sweet and heartfelt, and the balance between those elements is *chef’s kiss*. I loved Georgia’s hidden depths and Dylan’s soft center and “wife” moments. Gahh, so good. At every turn, they showed how perfect they were for one another. I also adored seeing Banks bond with his Rebels teammates, not only because their banter is amusing but also because I’ve been reading this series since the drop and seeing all the happiness is incredibly rewarding.

Honestly, being a Meader reader (heh, I rhymed) is incredibly rewarding. Pretty much every book is a feel good, five star hit and HOCKEY WIFE is no exception. And now I can barely wait for the next one to hit my Kindle.

"Sometimes mistakes are a cry for attention. Sometimes they’re a way for us to learn. About ourselves."
Kate Meader has a knack for turning a story that is supposed to be simple into one with layers and giving you the feels in the process. I’m not surprised it happened here too.

"He was quiet. Contemplative and stoic. But when he spoke, it felt like he saw right into her."
I like the quiet, stoic types, so it’s no wonder I loved Banks. A hockey player in the last few years of his career, but also one who prepared for it. Who’s been traded to the Rebels but who’s found a group of amazing friends (even if they’re annoying sometimes). An all-around good guy who speaks in grunts but is nothing short of awesome.

"Princess Peach, a Georgia peach … the universe was trying to tell him something."
Georgia was a surprise. I can honestly say I didn’t like who she was at the start of the book, but I knew there had to be something more to her. And there’s a lot. She may be a socialite who’s all over the gossip rags, but that’s just the surface. You need to dig a little deeper with her.

"He woke up alone and realized that only one of them was stuck in that headspace. Any embers of hope were doused when he tried to contact her. The message was clear: pretend it never happened."
I’ll flat-out say it: it seems to me like the whole Vegas wedding trope is a bit worn out. So Kate turned it around this time. Yes, they got married. Yes, they spent the night together. And yes, the following day it all seemed like a big mistake. Except… Well, they weren’t drunk, they didn’t have sex, and she was the one who left while he was asleep.
And I loved it!

"He’s here. If Georgia could wish for anything right now, it would be for everyone to leave. Go home. Let her be. With Banks."
They’re unable get it annulled, and it turns out it would be beneficial for both of them if they stayed married for a while. When the press gets hold of the news, Georgia needs to move in with Banks for appearances' sake.
But is that the only reason?

"We both know why you married me."
"Please spill."
"Because no one had ever kissed you as good as I did. No one had ever held you as tightly as I did. And no one had ever made you feel like the only girl in my world."

They’re very different—I mean, Georgia doesn’t even know anything about hockey! But as they spend more time together, that doesn’t really matter. There’s a mutual attraction that is undeniable, but there’s also a connection. And that’s when you realize that Georgia is not who you thought she was.
When Banks realizes it, he falls deeper. Because, come on—the guy was already down. He’s the only one who doesn’t see it.

"It’ll take more than some light witchcraft to frighten this woman. She ate my tacos."
It gets worse when his mom, grandma, and sisters come over for a visit. Why? Because it means they have to share a room—and a bed. Being this close to each other only makes their attraction grow until it becomes unbearable. And while they shouldn’t, because it may complicate things, you know they won’t be able to hold out for long.

"It wasn’t just an ache to be satisfied. It was a need for connection. For purpose. This woman was feeling like his reason for … he didn’t know yet."
Suddenly their social status doesn’t matter. Neither does their age (if it ever did to being with). What really matters is for them to get to know each other on a deeper level. And it’s all there in the small things. How he cares for her cat even though he’s allergic. How he leaves a game because she’s hurt. How she makes flash cards to know all about hockey so she can be there for him.
Without realizing it, they’re very much husband and wife.

"Are we sure this isn’t you in a weakened state after suffering a brain injury?"
"Someone else will have a brain injury if he doesn’t satisfy his wife’s conjugal rights."

The physical side is the last thing they give in to. From the get-go, you know it’s not just about sex. There’s a chemistry between them that can’t be faked. And I loved how Georgia gave as good as she got and took the lead.

"You make it sound like my wife’s a problem to be managed. I assure you, she’s not."
Hockey games are still going on and there are some family issues for Georgia to handle in the meantime. The way they supported each other was absolutely incredible, heartwarming, and meaningful. And if you’re like me and you want those “my wife” moments, you’re in for a real treat.

"I want to learn you, Georgia. I want to learn everything about you. Not just Georgia, the flash-card version."
"What if you don’t like what you find?"
"What if I like it even more?"

While they’re still discovering each other, Georgia finds real friends in the Rebels org. Women who like her for her and not for the money and clout. And Banks finds out that, even though he was mostly a loner, there are people there who care about him.
The Rebels really are a family, and I enjoyed seeing some familiar faces pop up.

"Because what you do is see me. You’ve always put me at the center of your world. I love you for that, Dylan. For every heartbeat and happy thought and shining moment."
There is a third-act breakup, and I saw it coming. I couldn’t fault any of them for it, or Kate, because sometimes it needs to happen. In this case, for them to realize what really matters and how they can move forward. Together.

"Bringing color into my life. Giving me another reason to strive for glory outside of the game. But mostly, for being my compass and always guiding me home."
This thing between them never felt like an accident or a mistake. It felt like two people who were simply meant to find each other.

P.S. Make sure to get the bonus epilogue for some heartwarming moments!

HOCKEY WIFE is the tenth instalment in Kate Meader’s contemporary, adult ROOKIE REBELS erotic, hockey romance series. This is thirty six year old professional hockey player Dylan ‘Banks’ Bankowski, and twenty-four year old, socialite Georgia Goodwin’s story line. HOCKEY WIFE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual omniscient third person perspectives (Banks and Georgia) HOCKEY WIFE follows in the wake of a one-night stand and accidental Las Vegas marriage between our story line couple. Dylan Bankowski is nearing the end of his professional hockey career but the All-Star weekend in Vegas proved to be much more than his fourth appearance at the annual event. Waking up married to socialite Georgia Goodwin, and his new bride on the run, the anticipation of divorce papers was on the horizon. Fast forward two months, Dylan discovers the annulment did not go through and his young wife wants a second chance with our story line hero. The caveat-Dylan Bankowski also needs to remain married to keep his grandmother happy, two birds, one stone-so to speak. Agreeing to stay together with an end date on the horizon, Dylan begins to fall for the woman who could break his heart. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Banks and Georgia, and the potential fall-out as perceived betrayal pushes Georgia out of Dylan’s life.

The world building focuses on Dylan’s waning career, potential injuries, and the ‘run’ for the Stanley Cup. Georgia is struggling with a direction in life, wanting to start a charitable foundation for those in need but her parents have other plans for their socialite daughter.

The relationship between Dylan and Georgia begins as a one-night stand, accidental Las Vegas wedding, and Georgia’s need to run when the things begins to spiral out of control.A reputation as a party-girl who tends to straddle the line with her public behavior, Georgia is desperate to keep up the charade in the face of losing everything including her struggling reputation. The $ex scenes are provocative and impassioned.

Several of the previous story line couples return as secondary and supporting characters including Dylan’s teammates on the Chicago Rebels: Ashley and Dex, Tara and Hale, Theo and Elle, as well as Dylan’s extended family, and Georgia’s parents.

HOCKEY WIFE is a story of secrets and lies, family and friendships, forgiveness and love. The character driven premise is entertaining, inviting and thought provoking; the romance is seductive and compelling; the characters are animated, sassy and desperate.

OMG, Georgia and Dylan/Banks--where do I start with how much I loved their book?

Their meet cute takes place in a Vegas bar, and it's a lot of fun--though it gets a tad bit eclipsed by the fact that they decide to get married later on that night. (No, alcohol isn't the reason and also no, it's not on the page--we see bits of it later on but not the whole thing from start to finish.)

Georgia takes off, sends Banks annulment papers, and it's all over. Right?

Of course not! I read Wild Ride , so I knew what was coming. (If you haven't read it yet, not a problem. The scene is here again, this time from our hero's POV. But hey--why haven't you read Wild Ride? Do yourself a favor and pick that one up ASAP, you won't be sorry.) Long story short, the paperwork didn't work and Georgia and Banks agree to stay married for now for...reasons. Which of course means cohabiting--and sharing a bed when Banks' family comes to visit.

Marriage of convenience (of sorts)? Close proximity? There's only one bed? Age gap? Grumpy/sunshine dynamic? Tiny heroine and big manly hero (who's allergic to her cat but doesn't tell her because Cheddar "likes him")? Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, and YES PLEASE.

But this story is more than the sum of its tropes! Both Georgia and Banks have layers--she's so much more than the wild socialite girl that the world sees, and he's not just the newly traded (again) seasoned player brought in to hopefully help win the Cup before he retires. I loved not only watching them grow closer and fall in love (duh!) but also figuring themselves out as they did so. From the beginning Banks was Georgia's biggest champion and Georgia was his, and I was here for it. Their relationship black moment crushed me almost as much as it did them--but it did make things so much sweeter when they reconciled and headed off into their HEA.

And that epilogue--gah! My heart! So much sweetness!

Also--please tell me I'm not the only one who teared up when Georgia was doing her nonprofit work? Because OMG, I had all the feels <3

Hockey Wife is the 9th book in the series but could work as a standalone. If you go that route, though, and hearing brief synopses of how many of the other series couples got together (spoiler: a Vegas wedding and immediate almost annulment and later fake-ish relationship barely even ranks on the weird scale by comparison) doesn't make you want to read them all, do you even have a heart?

Rating: 4 1/2 stars / A

I love this series and I’m thankful to be on Kate Meaders ARC team. Her books are consistently
above-average. This one is about Dylan “Banks” Bankowski, a new member of the Rebels hockey team, and Georgia “Peaches” Goodwin, a wealthy heiress who lost her twin sister two years ago. It’s a fake-marriage, forced-proximity trope. After Banks was traded from Nashville to Chicago, he was feeling sorry for himself. That’s when he met Georgia in Las Vegas. She was also feeling sorry for herself, missing her sister, and trying to fill the empty space by being a party girl. On a whim, the two of them decided to marry in Vegas, but Georgia woke up the next morning convinced she’d made a mistake so she left. Annulment papers were sent to Banks, and he signed them despite his disappointment, but when we join them in present day, it’s to learn that the annulment didn’t go through and they need to file for divorce again.

Neihter wants to divorce. Georgia claims it’s to ensure she receives her inheritance while Banks claims it’s because he wants to make his grandmother happy (she wants to see him married). So, they decide to pretend to be married. Naturally, practicing to be something inevitably leads to being that thing. By sharing the internal thoughts of both Banks and Peaches, Meader lets us view the insecurities they each have. Banks is convinced that he’s too old for Peaches. Peaches is convinced she doesn’t deserve Banks. As they fall in love, both are afraid to admit it. And then of course, a misunderstanding occurs and they split—but the divorce papers remain unsigned.

Banks and Peaches are such a cute couple who become best friends in the process of getting to know one another. I loved the way their relationship grew before they even slept together. That’s why it hurts so much more when they're separated for a stupid reason. Banks’ teammates try to talk some sense into him by taunting him about how much better than him Peaches is. Banks made me laugh when he told one of his teammates, “Kershaw, if you don’t shut your mouth, I’m gonna take that cake slice and put an end to your genetic line.”

And when Peaches and Banks see each other again, this line stood out to me in it’s poignancy: Georgia “pressed a hand to her chest, as if that could keep her heart inside.” It’s such a relief when they admit their love for one another and embrace the chance to be happy together. I highly recommend it.

3 stars. Hockey Wife is book nine in the Rookie Rebels series and is Banks and Georgia's story. Georgia is a socialite and has a reputation for being a silly social media star from a rich family. Banks is an NHL player who is nearing the end of his career and feeling at lose ends. They meet one night in Vegas and have an instant connection so they get married. Despite that this was not a drunken wedding, Georgia has regrets the next morning and leaves Banks in the hotel sleeping. Two months later, her pretentious parents find out about her wedding. So Georgia takes that time to contact Banks to ask for an annulment. He is mad that she left him with no reason, but when they meet again, she changes her mind and decides to ask him to stay married with her for a little while to help her reputation. The more time they pretend to really be in love and happy together, the less it feels pretend for them both.

This was an interesting story and I felt it had potential, but it never quite got there for me. Neither Georgia or Banks were very likeable. Georgia is misunderstood as just a pretty, vapid face. She is not really that way, but she doesn't really care what people think of her so she doesn't correct anyone's assumptions, even Banks'. He, himself, is grumpy and broody and sometimes treats her like that vapid girl. They were okay characters but not my faves. Neither of them thought they deserved each other, but they never communicated it to each other. Instead, they communicated poorly and walked on egg shells with each other right through the very end. It was frustrating to read about neither of them dropping their guards with each other or trying to have a real relationship. I never felt the love between them. I think it might have helped to see their wedding night in more detail in a flashback to help feel their connection more. The glimpse we saw did not explain it well enough to me. The poor chemistry also didn't help. Still, this was not a bad book. The story was interesting and I do enjoy seeing glimpses of the other couples in the series. I still enjoyed it in general and I look forward to more from Ms. Meader in the future.

✨Reading Highlights✨
- Fake marriage
- Age gap
- Good story
- Good writing and good pacing
- Fun characters with interesting dynamic

I borrowed this book from my Libby Library and I really loved it. I thought this story was so fun and had a lot of really good points. I just loved Bank's and Georgia's relationship dynamic. I loved that even though they may have started in a very unconventional way they both realized that what they had, though very new and unsteady, it was worth something to both of them. They both saw the potential and went for it, and we got a pretty good story because they got scarred and wanted to play safe and not go for it anymore. And thus the plot begins. Seriously I loved this story, I loved seeing behind the sinical that is what I saw Banks as, and I also loved getting to know who Georgia was behind the party princess persona.

Seeing to the heart of theses characters and why they acted the way that they did, and seeing them grow from those people was a beautiful thing to read about. Sometimes that is my favorite thing to read about in romance books is when the main characters realize what they could be not just as a couple but as individual people. That moment when they see themselves as more then what they though they were or what other people told them they were. It is a beautiful moment and I think it was very well done in this book.

This book is about taking risks that you know could blow up in your face, but doing it anyway because if it works out then then the reward is so much better then anything else. There is a lot of self discovery in this book as well for the main characters. They are both going through some pretty heavy stuff, and the way that they come together to help each other figure out their stuff is pretty awesome.

Kate Meaders books have been so fun for me to read. She has great writing and the characters that she brings to life are some pretty incredible people. I have loved reading this series, and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves hocky romance or contemporary romance. The stories and characters are just so much fun.

I'm always so happy to visit with the Redel's. I always have so much fun. Right away I got sucked into Dylan and Georgia's story. I loved the idea of it. Here are two people who during a fun time in Vegas get married. The crazy part is that neither of them are drunk.

Dylan is a man who at a very young age felt he need to stand up and be the man in the family after his father passed. You see how that affected him in the way he's kind of uptight and doesn't let himself do anything crazy.

In walks Georgia and he does the craziest thing he's ever done. He gets married to a stranger. Being crazy is in Georgia's wheel well. Or at least that's what she shows everyone. I love the reason she is the way she is. So many layers to her that you always wonder if there is more.

Together these two just work. They bring out the best in each other. If there is love at first sight, I think it happened to these two.

You can't help but love Dylan's family and you are hopeful for Georgia's This is a wonderful story that makes me want to read more and more about these guys. I love the friendships that have formed within the team.

Georgia and Dlyan might be perfect for each other but that doesn't mean the road to their HEA isn't full of bumps. When you marry without knowing each other you are bound to find things that bring up issues. The way you work it out is what makes for a good story.

“Something about the forced proximity and only one bed … that’s going to blow that business arrangement out of the water.”
I think grumpy Dylan “Banks” Bankowski and sunshiny Georgia Goodwin may be my new favorite Rebels couple! I loved seeing Banks and Georgia in the previous book as side characters I was so excited to see how Georgia would turn Banks world upside down in Hockey Wife!

Banks and Georgia met in Las Vegas, where all good decision are made with clear heads. After just a few hours of knowing each other the two obviously decided to get married. But when morning came Georgia was gone and Banks was left alone with no explanation. Now that Georgia is back in Banks life to tell him the annulment didn’t go through the two have decided for their own reasons to stay married.
“You wouldn’t believe how much my focus is fragmented—did you hear I have a hot young wife who’s completely upended my life?—yet I’m still here, winning games and taking names.”

I loved their relationship. Banks was so clearly smitten with Georgia and willing to do whatever it took to show her that he wanted more than a fake relationship. Georgia needed someone in her corner for once, she needed to be someone’s priority and Banks provided that. There was so much more to Banks than hockey and so much more to Georgia than partying. They were so great for each other and they grew so much together!
“Sometimes mistakes are a cry for attention. Sometimes they’re a way for us to learn. About ourselves.”

As always the help from the rest of the Rebels came with top notch and hilarious advice. I cannot wait to see what comes next from Kate Meader!
Thank you @katemeader for the ARC!

4.5 rounded up to 5

I know I say this every time but I devour a new Kate Meader hockey book like it’s air I need and Hockey Wife was no exception. Between Banks and Georgia’s “Whoops we got married in Vegas”, grumpy/ sunshine personalities that are hiding hidden depths and some trademark Kate Meader steam, I read Hockey Wife in one sitting.

Veteran hockey player Dylan Banks has recently been traded to our beloved Chicago Rebels but he has a secret. During the All Star Break in Vegas he married socialite Georgia Godwin of Chicago strictly based on their mutual attraction. With post wedding “Oh No’s” and after a paperwork mix up where they are still married these two opposites decide to stay married for “romance reasons”. Of course, their fake relationship becomes real feelings, add in cameos from the past Rookie Rebels, an adorable granny and Hockey Wife is another perfect addition to this series.

Sigh… Banks… Total book boyfriend material. A hockey hottie who is a grumpy sweetheart (how he treats Cheddar——SWOON), he’s got a surprisingly dirty mouth and a healthy retirement fund. Nothing is hotter than a man that manages him money correctly. Georgia starts off as a socialite party girl but as we find out she’s really a total mush ball helping people and when she grows a backbone I wanted to stand up and cheer.

Hockey Wife is another perfect addition to the Rookie Rebels series and I adore going back to the Chicago Rebels universe. With tropes that I love - older man, hockey hottie, only one bed, grumpy x sunshine- I couldn’t put down Hockey Wife and am eagerly waiting for whatever comes next in the series!

Can this series just keep going on forever? We're at book nine of the Rookie Rebels (and don't forget the Chicago Rebels that preceded them) and I'm nowhere near ready to say goodbye to this team of unforgettable characters and the women - and men - who capture their hearts. The romance. The bromance. The sizzling chemistry. The laugh-out-loud humor. And last, but never least, the incredible depth of emotion. These books have it all.

I fell hard for Georgia and Banks. There's so much more to both of them than what the surface would suggest. Meader excels at creating layered characters and I love watching those hidden layers slowly reveal themselves to me - and to the other characters - as the story progresses. Of course, teammates and their wives get involved along the way. It wouldn't be the Kate Meader story I love without meddling hockey players - I'm looking at you, Theo Kershaw. And you too, Tara Fitzpatrick - not to mention extended family dynamics which always take things up a notch. It all comes together in a perfect blend of steam, emotion, humor, and happiness, everything I've come to expect from this author.

Grab yourself a copy of Hockey Wife - it stand well on its own - but don't miss out on the other eight books too. They all have my enthusiastic recommendation.

*Note: if you prefer a classic (man chest) cover the author has that, as well as the illustrated cover, at her online store.

It was great to be back in the Rookie Rebels world and absolutely adored Georgia and Banks' story. First of all, Meader gave us another amazing hockey family with the Bankowskis. I loved their dynamic and the way they embraced Georgia, welcoming her with open arms. But it was Banks who really won my heart. My heart ached when I heard the things people from his past said about him because he was lovable and sweet and he just needed the right people in his life to really see him.

Some of those people were the Rebels who quickly pulled him into the fold, and Georgia. Georgia saw what a wonderful man Banks was, and he could see what a wonderful woman Georgia was. She was publicly noted as a vapid party girl, but wait until you learn about the charity work she does. I got emotional. It was really touching. That subplot may have got my tears flowing too, and it made me see Georgia in a different light.

I thought I would hate the age gap, but I didn't. And how about a double epilogue!!! You know I was excited. Another great Rebels book!

On the surface, Dylan "Banks" Bankowski and Georgia Goodwin couldn't be more different. Banks is in his mid-30's, a somber and serious hockey player with just a few good playing years left. After a stellar career, he's been traded to a team that has a good shot at the Stanley Cup, the one career goal that has so far escaped him. Georgia is 24, a socialite and supposed party girl with a big trust fund and family expectations to join their charitable endeavors, expectations she has so far managed to ignore.

However, none of those things matter when they meet at a bar in Las Vegas and feel a connection so powerful that by the end of the night, they've gotten married. The regrets set in immediately on Georgia's side as she imagines the reaction from her parents to yet another seemingly impulsive act and she wants nothing more than to erase the whole thing and move on.

When they learn they are still married and unforseen circumstances convince them to continue the marriage just a bit longer, neither of them is expecting that the chemistry that drew them together initially will show itself again and make them both reconsider.

Hockey wife was fun and light, but also sweet and heartfelt. Banks is already half in love and falls even more as he starts to see that Georgia's party-girl persona hides a caring and bruised heart. The "my wife" vibes are strong with him. Georgia has had her share of bad times and has closed herself off to protect herself but she sees right through Banks' stoic exterior to his tender insides. He makes her feel safe and secure in a way that she can't help but want more of. Turns out that sometimes what happens in Vegas should not stay in Vegas after all. I received a free copy of this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving a review. All opinions expressed are my own.

I was gifted an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

In terms of hockey romance books, which, to be honest, are usually not my go-to reading Hockey Wife By: Kate Meader is one that I really appreciated. 🥰 I found it to be nothing like I expected. Banks (Dylan) and Peaches (Georgia) were quite a pair; they're the epitome of opposites attracting. Peaches, the affluent socialite with a sad past, and Banks, the surly hockey player, are perfect opposites. They have a random encounter one night in Vegas and end up married (crazy kids). 🤦🏻‍♀️ Mind you, Peaches does wake up the next day and flees when she realizes what she has done. But Mr. Hockey Puck wakes up angry that she has fled.

Once again, these two eventually cross paths in Chicago. To his surprise, Peaches (remember, she ran first) wants to stay married, while Banks is now the one having second thoughts. However, after a heartfelt convo , he decides to change his mind and agrees to stay married to Peaches. That implies they will now need to pretend to be married and fool everyone into thinking they are in love. With time, these two discover they aren't all that different from one another, and they unknowingly develop this challenging, meaningful relationship.

After reading Hockey Wife by Kate Meader I felt like I could flee to Vegas and marry my own hockey player. 🤣

Hockey Wife (Rookie Rebels #9) by Kate Meader

Entertaining, fun, witty, emotional and full of spice, this had everything that this hopeless romantic needs in a romance. I couldn’t put this one down!

This is Dylan “Banks” Bankowski and Georgia Goodwin’s journey and what a magical heartwarming story it is!

These two opposite meet in Las Vegas and after only a few hours they end up married, but when Banks wakes up he finds himself alone.

Months later Georgia shows up and needs a favor from Dylan. Their annulment didn’t go through and she wants to stay married for a few more months. Initially he isn’t happy about this request, but when their wedding announcement is put in the social pages his family tells him how excited his grandmother is that he is finally settling down, so he agrees. But when she moves in with him for appearance sake, the one bed and close proximity is just too much for them to keep their feelings from coming into play.

I loved these two together. I smiled. I swooned. I giggled. And I fell in love with these two. And the camaraderie between Georgia and the other Rebel Rookie wives and girlfriends was the icing on the cake!

This is another fantastic addition to the Rookie Rebels series!

I received an early copy from the author and this is my honest review.

I’m always excited to pick up a book by Kate Meader and I enjoyed Hockey Wife quite a lot. This opposites attract, quickie Vegas wedding romance was fun to read.

After meeting in a bar in Vegas after the All Star Hockey game and when Dylan finds out he’s been traded to the Chicago Rebels and where socialite Georgia has been left by her two “best friends” these two share conversation, laughter, and eventually exchange vows, but the next morning Georgia is gone and Dylan isn’t exactly happy. When the quickie divorce she informs him she’s getting hits a snafu, she’s decided she wants to stay married to get her parent’s off her back, but he is ready to be done until a phone call from home changes his mind.

While Georgia and Dylan play house platonically we begin to understand what makes these characters tick and we see them grow closer as they share their lives with one another. I had a hard time warming up to Georgia and honestly would have like to see her stand up for herself more with her parents and her user friends, but I was happy to see her grow and change throughout and discover there was more to her than meets the eye. Dylan at 36 is worrying about his career coming towards an end and what his next chapter will be, but I loved the way his team took him in and made him feel he belonged.

Hockey Wife was a feel good story that I enjoyed very much.

Kate Meader lights the lamp with HOCKEY WIFE (Rookie Rebels #9). NHL veteran Dylan “Banks” Bankowski was in Las Vegas for the All-Star weekend. While he was there, he meets Georgia Goodwin. They hit it off and get married. However, when Dylan wakes up, she is gone.

Coincidentally, Dylan and Georgia both live in Chicago. Dylan was recently traded to the Chicago Rebels. Georgia later tracks Dylan down when she discovers there were issues with their annulment. The press finds out about the marriage, and the two decide to stay together for appearances with the expectation of getting a divorce in the future. However, once they get to know each other they both start to question if that is what they really want.

Kate Meader does an excellent job with this story. The characters are dynamic and face a lot of interesting scenarios, including, Banks being twelve years older than Georgia. He is nearing the end of his career, and Georgia is at the beginning of hers. Furthermore, years prior, Georgia’s twin sister died from heart failure. She and her family still face issues because of their loss.

I like Georgia and Banks. On the outside, they seem like opposites, but they are perfect for each other. HOCKEY WIFE is an excellent addition to the Rookie Rebels series. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

Another visit to Chicago and another chance to catch up with the Rebels NHL team. This time it’s veteran Dylan “Banks” Bankowski and socialite Georgia Godwin’s journey and if you are looking for a witty and entertaining read look no further than Hockey Wife (Rookie Rebels #9.
Dylan and Georgia had a chance meeting in a bar in Vegas….one thing leads to another and they end up married but Georgia disappears before Dylan wakes up.
Fast forward a few months and Georgia needs a favour and she tracks Dylan down to ask him to stay married for a few months. Not happy about the situation his first instinct is to say no but when his family tell him how much his grandmother wants to see him settled he agrees to a fake marriage. Problem is living under the same roof with a woman drives you crazy but who also turns you on is not going to be easy and it’s not long before real feelings come into play.
I loved this book and I have no hesitation in recommending it to all romance lovers. I swooned, I smiled, I giggled and at times I laughed out loud but what took this book to another level was the camaraderie of a group of ladies who have all found love in some unconventional ways with Rebel Players.
If you love romantic comedy you need to read this gem.

***ARC Provided by the Author***

I love books where you get to know the characters and find out there is so much more to them than you originally thought, but it's handled in a way that knowing more about them makes them seem more human than they did initially.

This was one of those books. Dylan and Georgia were an impulsive mistake Vegas wedding...or were they? As you get to know them, and as they get to know one another, you start to find out that there were reasons that both of them were really attracted to one another, and things that they found within one another that spoke to what they were missing in their lives.

Add in that they are attracted to one another, and going along with them as they figure out that staying married just might be the best thing, and what they actually want, is a lot of fun.

I am not usually a fan of the separate epilogue (and do still sometimes wonder why they just can't be included in the book) but for this one, it's a must and it definitely answers some of the questions at the end of the book and ties them up nicely.

I enjoyed and recommend this title.

We thoroughly enjoyed this one we thought the characters were fantastic and absolutely loved Dylan's crazy loveable family.

Georgia was a character that made us laugh out loud time and time again. We loved her sass, her teasing, her flashcard obsession, and the fact she is more than what the media and tabloids portray her as she is a kind compassionate woman with a generous heart.

Dylan was a bit of a hot mess but, then again so was Georgia the sexy possessive man was more than meets the eye too, and maybe a bit insecure when it comes to personal relationships but, Georgia brought his feelings to the surface and made him analyze them being with her was good for him as he went from a constant grump to a guy with a pep in his step. Loved his support when it came to Georgia he was so good for her and believed in her. We loved that she went from party girl to a homebody where she preferred to spend her free time with the 'Big Guy".

This sexy romp was such a fun read that we loved the chemistry between the characters they were pure fire. They had their ups and downs but, there was no denying their connection. The ending was my favorite and perfect for this duo who could not be more different and the bonus epilogue was another favorite and not to be missed.
