An Amish Thanksgiving: Includes Amish Recipes & Reading Group Guide

Rate this book
FROM A BESTSELLING & AWARD-WINNING AUTHOR WHO HAS SOLD OVER 3 MILLION BOOKS.

Catherine Lapp doesn't have time for a romantic relationship. Her parents fled her Amish community and left her to tend to her ailing grandmother who suffers from dementia. Often embarrassed by her grandmother's off-the-wall behavior, Catherine mostly stays to herself.

When an unseasonal winter storm sends visitors to Catherine's farmhouse for shelter, she has no choice but to take them in as borders. She is rattled by the unexpected company who witness her grandmother's odd behavior right away. But instead of judgment, her new friends not only help her with her grandmother, but they provide an opportunity to learn what real unconditional love can be--both romantically and through friendship.

As two romances blossom, Catherine finds hope in her circumstances, and an opportunity to have the Thanksgiving she's always wanted.

"A perfect read for the holiday season, or any time. A serious look at the responsibilities of being a caretaker, but an even deeper insight into the many ways God works in our lives. Don't miss this one."

Beth Wiseman continues to be one of my favorite authors. Her stories are such light and easy reads! Catherine is taking care of ge grandmother with dementia and it cut off from the world because of it. With the help of two matchmakers in town they receive some unexpected guests. A unlikely storm causes everyone to be shut in for thanksgiving.
This story is a light romance with notes of laughter. It also deals with a difficult subject of what dementia does to not only a person but the caregivers. Another 5 star must read!!!

A beautiful read

Oh, this book was so hard for me personally. This was my first Thanksgiving without my dad. He passed in March 2024 from dementia and Alzheimer’s.

I related so much to what Catherine was experiencing. My dad could go from a sweet and loving man to one of anger in seconds for no apparent reason. Then he would be so upset when he realized what had happened. The anger was the hardest for me to understand because I couldn’t fix it.

Even though this book was hard it was healing. I am thankful I could honor my dad’s wishes and keep him in his home and that I was able to take care of him. Catherine was a beautiful character. Her devotion was inspiring.

A quick read with a lot of depth that is heartwarming. Have the tissues ready as I shed some tears as well as laughed at the antics of my favorite matchmaking characters Lizzie and Esther. Is the Peony Inn full and makes it necessary to send guests to the neighbors house? Catherine finds unexpected guests at her door and feels overwhelmed as she is taking care of her grandmother who suffers from dementia. The author deals with the delicate subject matter with great finesse that has you empathizing with the characters. Sometimes God sends help and love in unexpected ways. I loved the characters and respected and admired Catherine and her grandmother’s love and dedication to each other. Unexpected moments are gobsmacking. I really enjoyed this heartfelt story and recommend reading.
I received a complimentary copy from the author. The honest review and opinions were my own and were not required.

Quick Thanksgiving read, which I read on Thanksgiving Day. Very touching and lovely story. I was glad to see some familiar faces in the form of the Matchmaker sisters, although I only just now realized they have a book written just about them (I’d “met” them in the Amish Bookstore series) and I will have to go back and read that one. Although, like most Amish Romances, there was some predictable elements, the quality is in the storytelling at which this author excels.

An Amish Thanksgiving is a wonderful story of love and devotion. Catherine is taking care of her grandmother who is suffering from dementia.
The beloved characters of Lizzie and Esther owners of The Peony Inn are at it again with their matchmaking skills as they know that Noah is a perfect match for Catherine and the sisters are rarely wrong. This story is just in time for Thanksgiving. Beth Wiseman is a beautiful storyteller and this one is no exception.

I really enjoyed this book and loved seeing the two
ladies from the peony inn.
Catherine is getting prepared for Thanksgiving and trying to keep her grandmother woo has dementia. What she doesn't need is unexpected guests which is what she gets.A snow storm hits and the ladies tell them there is no room so sends them to Catherine home.Things get a little stressful so you have to read it to find out what happens.
I was given this by publisher to give my fair review which I did.

Catherine has been the sole caregiver to her grandmother, after her Amish parents divorce and leave the community. When a snowstorm hits just before Thanksgiving, Catherine finds her house full of people who seek refuge from the storm. And when her grandmother continues to talk about Jessica, who Catherine has never heard of, what is she to think? A wonderful story of love, joy & seeking God's will.

awesome story

The reality of dealing with a person who has dementia it that it is hard to hang on and hard to let go. I appreciated the references to the Amish Inn and recognized the moves of Lizzie and Esther in the matchmaking field too. God really had this in hand the whole time too.

A story filled with so many examples of love

This book deals with the heartbreak of dementia, but it is beautifully written. The characters are well written and provide a compelling story.

You’ll enjoy beautiful descriptions of the community, the changing landscape during the seasons, and the way all of the people mesh together when unexpected events occur.

While this sweet book should probably be a 3.5, it gets a 4.

Catherine, a young woman, has been living alone with her grandmother caring for her through her challenging days of living with dementia when sibling twins (Ruth & Noah) knock on their farmhouse door in hopes of staying with them through an unexpected storm that Thanksgiving week. And so the story begins…

A clean and sweet read

An Amish Thanksgiving, was enjoyable. The characters were good. The grandmother has dementia and her granddaughter takes care of her. Her grandma tells her to plan for extra guests and she begins the preparation, little did she know what that would really mean!
I recommend this book.

An Amish thanksgiving

What a beautiful story about the loving relationship between grandmother and grandchild. The granddaughter deserved the relationship she had with the man she met during the Thanksgiving holidays. I can’t wait to read more about this family.

love changes things

This is the kind of Thanksgiving story that I love! Who knew that Thanksgiving could bring life-changing surprises! What her grandma struggled with is painfully real. Only the love of God and family can help each person through each day. Very well done!

Sweet Read!

This book was such a joy to read. If anyone has been through Dementia with a loved one, they can certainly relate. But to have no help at all was so terrible for a young woman. Thanksgiving was a wonderful way to bring people together. Great book.

This was such an emotional read for me. I was almost tearing up.

This could have been a four star book but they kept going on about love potions and joking about maybe drinking it. It got to the point that it was too much and obnoxious.

Could not finish -- too simplistic--and the Amish recipes were more like Good Housekeeping circa 1968.
