Grace Hamilton is the prepper pen-name for a bad-ass, survivalist momma-bear of four kids, and wife to a wonderful husband. After being stuck in a mountain cabin for six days following a flash flood, she decided she never wanted to feel so powerless or have to send her kids to bed hungry again. Now she lives the prepper lifestyle and knows that if SHTF or TEOTWAWKI happens, she’ll be ready to help protect and provide for her family.

Combine this survivalist mentality with a vivid imagination (as well as a slightly unhealthy day dreaming habit) and you get a prepper fiction author. Grace spends her days thinking about the worst possible survival situations that a person could be thrown into, then throwing her characters into these nightmares while trying to figure out "What SHOULD you do in this situation?"

It’s her wish that through her characters, you will get to experience what life will be like and essentially learn from their mistakes and experiences.

WHEN YOUR SURVIVAL & THAT OF ALL YOU CARE FOR & LOVE IS ON THE LINE WHO CAN YOU TRULY TRUST?

When an EMP attack hits the U.S. bring down the power grid, emergency services, communications, and the government, who can you trust with your life and the lifes of those who you care about? Old friends, neighbors, and family can surprise you and even betray you. New acquaintances and even strangers might surprise you when it really counts.

Sometimes, it's not those who we think will have our back when it really counts and those who we thought we can trust based on past life experiences might just turn on you for no other reason then their own greed, sick and demented ways, their desire for power and control, or even thier own desire for revenge and their hatred.

Fractured Days (After the End Book 2) Grace Hamilton is a well written book. The characters are clearly defined and you will find yourself attentively glued to each and every page to find out if the main characters survive one after another struggle they face in order to make their way to those they love.

This is a very enjoyable and action-packed thriller that hopefully you will enjoy reading as much as I have.

Quotes:

"All Tyrants think they have good reasons for oppression."

"Those who sacrifice liberty for safety will have neither."

"The worst tyrant is one who acts in belief that he dies so for the greater good, for then his conscience is complicit in tyranny, without even the stirring of self-doubt to check his excesses."

I think the book cover reflects a scene from within the book very well. It pictures Kim, Dennis & Mutt on their long journey heading towards Memphis and Kim’s Great-Aunt Carol, Great-Uncle Bruno and the Black Rats, the motorcycle gang they lead.

After finishing Trapped Days, I honestly couldn’t wait to read Fractured Days!
Fractured Days basically picks up where Trapped Days ended, it may be just 8 days since the EMP event but the world has been thrown headlong into increasing chaos and decreasing of human civility and behaviour.

We are straight back into the drama with Shannon aka Sarah, she has an infected bullet wound affecting how she can control the large truck she is driving and when they hit a bump in the road whilst she is driving the truck, Bill attempts to reach over and help to regain control of the vehicle but bangs his own head knocking himself out and the truck ends up off road partially in a ditch. When Bill regains consciousness, he manages to get the truck back on the road but its clear he needs to stop somewhere very soon as Shannon/Sarah’s wound desperately needs attention. Bill manages to find a small clinic and gains access, settling Shannon/Sarah whilst he gathers the medical supplies he needs to drain the infection and to attempt to stop the infection/poison spreading any further. It’s clear they cannot continue their journey to find Kim, Shannon/Sarah’s daughter so they make the clinic their temporary base.

They aren’t the only ones being forced to halt their journey as Kim and Dennis have decided to stay in Humboldt which is being run by a marine friend of Dennis’ Sergeant Lewis Danville. They hope Dennis can go cold turkey on his pain medication addiction and will then be able to travel on to Memphis and Kim’s Aunt & Uncle. However, all is not what it seems at Humboldt and soon becomes apparent that as a pre-med student Kim has skills that are needed in Humboldt and she becomes a commodity that Lewis Danville does not want to let go of willingly.

In the meantime, Andre Atkinson is still intent on taking his revenge on his ex-wife Sarah (Shannon) for testifying against him and sending him to prison. Andre comes across Lee Kingston-Jones, a young man fleeing his abusive ex-cop father. Andre soon realises Lee has information about possible roadblocks set up by what is left of the police force in a bid to recapture escapee prisoners. Lee can hunt to he catches food for them to eat and becomes a travel companion, and somewhat of a “lackey” for Andre, doing all the dogsbody jobs he doesn’t wish to do himself. As they travel together, facing various situations, Andre begins to subtly train Lee to become tougher and more violent. Lee is scared of Andre and because of the abuse at the hands of his own father when Andre praises Lee, he desperately wants to continue pleasing him, which pressures him to push his own boundaries on what he considers right and wrong.

There’s still plenty of chaos as society collapses and the wrong sort of people try to take over in Fractured Days. People are beginning to realise that there is no help coming and that the conditions they are currently facing are only going to get worse. The fairly wide range of book characters shine a light on multiple different relationships, and qualities such loyalty whether it is between, friends, family, motorcycle gangs, or people that have just met and either choose to band together or are thrown together and trapped by circumstances.
I loved how though they are not blood related, Bill & Shannon/Sarah and Dennis & Kim slip into a father, daughter type dynamic. Another non blood relationship that was formed was between Kim and Joan. Kim can see that Joan is suffering from domestic violence as she recognises the signs, excuses and bruise patterns from her parent volatile, abusive relationship. Kim tries to talk to Joan and let her know that there is a way out from the abuse, even in this current world. Kim even considers taking Joan with her and Dennis when they leave but circumstances change quickly. Aunt Carols reaction was so familiar and realistic of “family” when she discovered that Shannon/Sarah was wounded and only just recovering from blood poisoning. The whole “Why didn’t you tell me?” though she had previously been so angry with Shannon/Sarah that Shannon/Sarah didn’t get a chance to tell Aunt Carol!

I really enjoyed reading Fractured Days, its quite fast paced and the chapters are from three different points of view, Bill, Lee, & Dennis. There are some great mini cliff hangers at the ends of the chapters making the book really hard to put down! You do become attached to the characters so its sad when certain ones are killed off but its all part of life and the book plot so understandable and believable. I found the whole concept of the Black Rats, their hierarchy and rules fascinating. I’m looking forward to the next book to see if/what Andre will attempt next and how his attempts will be thwarted, hopefully without too many great characters losing their lives.

Summing up there are some really edge of your seat, nail biting sections as well as some truly heart-warming ones that show that even in the worst of circumstances people can still be generous & care for each other. There are also those individuals who will turn a crisis to their advantage at every opportunity too.

This is book two of the After the End series and the survivors of the EMP that took out the whole country, have their story told in each of their little worlds. Shannon Grayson aka Sarah Nakamura/Atkinson who has been working as a truck driver, whilst hiding out in WITSEC, has suffered a really bad injury after being shot in the shoulder and refuses to allow Bill Wheeler, who had been stuck with her in the retail center and helped her escape, to drive her truck! She has no choice after she loses consciousness and crashes the truck! Former Marine and now recently fired WITSEC Marshall, Dennis Sullivan, is accompanying Sarah’s daughter Kim to Memphis, where her aunt and uncle live and where she presumes her mother will also go. Dennis is addicted to opioids from a former injury that saw him have to leave the Marines and then get fired from WITSEC, just days before the EMP hit, but he wants to keep his promise to Sarah, to look out for her daughter should anything happen. Another leg injury on his way to find Kim at her college, has him struggling to walk at all and left on foot. Their journey took them to a small town Dennis wanted to stop in, Humboldt, still searching every place to look for more drugs to ease his pain and addiction. The last pairing is Andre Atkinson, Sarah’s former husband and convicted killer, who has escaped from prison after the EMP and Lee Kingston Jones, who has run away from his abusive, ex-cop father, who beats him at the drop of a hat. Lee has had enough, but makes the mistake of trying to pull a knife on Andre, almost getting his arm broken, before Andre offers him a second chance.

Lee is easy prey for Andre to twist into agreeing to do anything Andre wants and attempt to prove himself to Andre as a useful companion. Andre is also heading to Memphis, to the HQ of the Black Rats motorcycle gang, one percenters, who had to turn legal after Sarah got Andre put in prison by testifying against him. It is up to Bill to take over the driving and get her to a clinic and try to save her life before she dies from her infection. Having a truck full of dried food goods, makes Shannon and Bill a target, especially when he has no clue how to defend himself or even fight. Helping one could leave you attacked by the next, but helping others sometimes brings its own reward, as Bill will find out when he is struggling. Lee is pushed to witness and then do things he has never done before, being praised by Andre and thinking he was so unlike his own father, until he turned out to be just like him! Whether it was too late for Lee, is yet to be seen, as Andre wants to punish those in the biker gang who allowed Sarah to take him down, but he has a special revenge in mind for her. Dennis and Kim find themselves in the hands of a town’s militia, luckily run by a former Marine Dennis knew well back in the day. He has the chance to detox and prove himself to his old comrade in arms, but Kim gets a bad feeling about the town and its militia leader, especially after meeting his wife! It might seem like the town is a safe haven, but when one man makes all the decisions, and likes the sense of power, a dictator is formed and the wishes of the masses are not of any concern.

Three storylines in one, that come to an explosive conclusion for some and a tragic end for others. Some interesting apocalyptic survival tips along the way, such as honey and cooked onions! It is only a short time after the world as they all knew it, had ended, but cities and towns have all fallen into disarray, with the strong often taking control and anyone with a working vehicle or weapons being the king of the hill in this new world order. Two groups have reached Memphis and the other has an easier method for the final stretch, and I look forward to seeing what will happen next and how they will stop Andre and whether Lee’s original allegiance lay! I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout, and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

Fractured Days is the second book in the After the End series by Grace Hamilton. Fractured Days picks up where Trapped Days left off. Shannon managed to escape the shopping center where she had been trapped after the EMP hit.

Shannon was shot in the shoulder making it hard for her to drive her truck. When Shannon’s wound gets the best of her, she almost wrecks. Bill grabs the wheel trying to rectify the situation but without any luck. They end up in a ditch. Bill is knocked out. When Bill comes to he finds a place for him and Shannon to hold up in until they can find somewhere better. He needs to find antibiotics to help her fight off the infection.

Dennis and Kim have finally found each other and are on their way to her Aunt’s house. Kim knows that is where her mother will go. They run into an old military friend of Dennis’s Lewis Danville. Lewis has a safe place for them to hold up in for a while. Kim soon learns that Humboldt may not be the safe Lewis led them to believe.

Shannon’s ex-husband Andre has escaped prison and is looking for her. He plans on making Shannon pay for testifying against him. Andre runs into Lee on his search for Shannon.

Andre takes Lee under his wing and teaches him everything he knows. Lee goes along with Andre because he praises him for doing a good job. Andre likes having Lee around because he can hunt plus whatever else he doesn't want to do.

Fractured Days is told from Bill, Lee, and Kim’s points of view. We get to see things through their eyes. I like stories told from more than one person's point of view. I like reading stories told from multiple points of view because you can get more of the story and what is going on that way and you also get to know how they see things and how they feel.

Fractured Days pulled me into its world from the first chapter and never let go until the end and if I am being honest not even then. Fracture Days is the kind of story that will stay with me forever.

I highly recommend Fractured Days to all dystopian and post-apocalyptic fans. Grab a copy of Fractured Days book two in the After the End series. Oh, and while you are there be sure to grab a copy of Trapped Days the first book in the series as it is recommended that the After the End series be read in order.

📚Review ~ Fractured Days (After the End Book 2)
🖋Author ~ Grace Hamilton
🖋Features: Thriller, Survival, Post Apocalyptic
⭐️Rating: 4/5

“US residents are advised to take measures to survive. Prepare alternatives for long-term self-sustainability.”

Dennis. Kim. Mutt.
Lee. Andre.
Bill. Shannon.

The long journey continues for these unlikely partners. While Kim reluctantly agrees to travel with Dennis and his dog, she questions his ability to get them all the way to Memphis and back to her mom, her family. With his worsening injuries and reliance on painkillers, the physical condition of the former US Marshal is rapidly declining.

For Lee, his only option to run from an abusive father puts him directly into the path of another violent man. With no military or law enforcement since the EMP shutdown the country, Andre had no problem escaping from the Mississippi State Penitentiary. Lee thinks he’s found a mentor; but, Andre knows he can use Lee’s eagerness to manipulate him.

Unfortunately, along the way, Dennis, Mutt, and Kim as well as Bill and Shannon also run into people who aren’t as friendly or helpful as they seem. Some will make the ultimate sacrifice.

Thanks to BookSprout for this arc. Even though this is book 2 of a series I still was intrigued and needed to read this! I was so ready for this adventure. This is a third person multi pov story with diverse characters and its action packed right from chapter one. There has been a disaster days ago in the story that lead one of our main characters Bill Wheeler to a super centre where he meets a group of people. 8 days prior to chapter one it’s when the lights went out and disaster struck. Survivors are on their own and fighting for their survival and Shannon Greyson has a bullet wound after she has escaped from a big retail centre and her infection is getting worse. On the second hand there is two other characters we follow. A former military guy who’s Dennis and he’s struggling with addiction and he tags along with a woman named Kim. It is a disaster EMP end of the world survival novel and I love it. The best duo personally that we follow that I loved the most was Kim and Dennis with their journey and Andre and Lee kinda really got emotional cause of Lee’s past and we learn about him. I’ve enjoyed this so much I need more of this! The only thing I wish was different was the pov. If it was first person for each duo going about their ways of survival I personally would have connected more with the characters and it would have immersed me more into the story and their struggles. Great book!

Fractured Days picks up right were the first book, Trapped Days, left off. Shannon and Bill have left the super store in her big rig on the way to Memphis. Shannon is still suffering from her gunshot wound to the shoulder and Bill has to step in and help with her healing when infection sets in. Kim and Dennis continue their journey towards Memphis as well. Dennis is still struggling with his pain killer addiction, especially in light of his new injuries to hip and knee. Kim and Dennis get waylaid enroute by an old military buddy who offers to help with Dennis’ detox. The story of Andre and Lee gets developed more.

Overall I think Grace Hamilton hit it out of the park, especially for a #2 in a new series - a definite must read!

Genre(s): science fiction, post apocalyptic
Bad Language: none
Intimate Scenes/Reference: none
Violence: some, nothing overly descriptive or gorey
Substance Abuse: some alcohol use
Mental Health: denial of addiction
Addiction: pain killers after traumatic injury, self detox.

Thank you, NetGalley and the publisher, for the opportunity to read and review "Fractured Days", the second book in Grace Hamilton's "After The End" series, a post-apocalyptic novel of suspense.
Following on from "Trapped Days", we find Shannon Atkinson/Sarah Nakamura and Bill Wheeler dealing with the aftermath of the attack outside the Supercenter, and on the road to Memphis, hopefully to meet up with her family (including her daughter), We also find Kim Nakamura and Dennis (her WitSec contact) - and of course, Mutt - struggling to make it to the rendezvous, but running into a whole world of trouble on the way.
Meantime, Shannon/Sarah's ex-husband - the absolutely evil Andre, has gained an acolyte and together they're also on the way to Memphis, with less than familial reunion on his mind.
This worthy sequel to Trapped Days starts to draw all of the main characters together and sets up an absolutely epic showdown as Shannon's long-awaited reunion with her family doesn't go quite as planned... Stay tuned for book three!
Highly recommended for fans of post-apocalyptic fiction. I wouldn't recommend as a standalone.

This was such a good second book in a series!

I liked the first one, but I enjoyed this one even more. The story continues along the same overarching plotline, but this time from the perspectives of different characters, which made for a really interesting way to tell the story—I loved it.

The characters felt incredibly real in their actions and thought processes. They were flawed in a way that made them even better to read about. The book does end on a bit of a cliffhanger (though less dramatic than the first, more of a call to action), and I cannot wait to listen to book three!

As for the narration, the performances really conveyed the emotions of the story well. The female narrator’s voice wasn’t my favorite, but that was just a personal preference rather than an actual issue. Overall, this was such an engaging listen—I finished it in a single day!.

Just eight days into a post-apocalyptic world where society has collapsed, survivors Shannon Grayson and Dennis Sullivan face new challenges. Shannon, suffering from an infected bullet wound, struggles to find medical help, while Dennis and his companion Kim Nakamura discover a seemingly safe town called Humboldt. However, as Dennis battles his addiction, Kim begins to suspect that Humboldt's safety comes at a cost.

After finishing Trapped Days, I couldn’t wait to read Fractured Days! The characters’ journeys reveal the complex layers of humanity, showcasing both its darkness and hope. The author balances moments of tension and introspection, creating a compelling narrative told from three points of view. This is a second installment worth reading.

I received an ARC copy through booksprouts. This review is mine.

I've been a Grace Hamilton fan for many years. Her series are set "after the fall of the world as we know it" and continue to prove that a dedicted group of people can always change the world around them. Hamilton is a prolific writer, having many series that revolve around differing groups of people and their repsonse to life "after" but none of them are the same. Each series places the characters....and the readers....in difficult circumstances where a group of individuals must become a team to survive. There is always drama, tension and enough twists and traps that you'll binge read to see what will happen next. I'm pretty sure that thanks to reading so many of Grace Hamilton's books, should the apocalypse not kill me, I'll know what to do to survive!!!!

Fractured Days is the second book in the After The End Series which focuses on Kim, Shannon's daughter, and Dennis, the marshal involved in the Witness Protection program who promised Shannon to look after her daughter. Kim and Dennis end up in Humboldt allowing him to recover from his physical problems after an accidental meeting with Lewis, his former Marine unit commander, who is providing security in the town. Additionally Bill continues caring for Shannon's injury while Andre, her ex-husband, begins looking for Shannon with the help of a teenager named Lee. This well written book has suspense, mystery, danger, plot twists, and well developed characters.

This is a continuation of the previous book, Day 8 is no better than the prior days. What will this world turn into? Will anyone be left?
Shannon is dealing with being shot, she was finally able to escape from the mall or what is left of it. As she is trying to treat the infection from the gunshot wound and medical help is far and wide. Help has to be found soon.
Here is this other couple thinking they found a safe haven and things might not be what they look like.
Can't wait to read book 3.

Blown away by this book and the amazing cast of narrators that lent their voices for these characters. The story itself was so detailed like when Shannon’s infection was festering and how it was taken care of. I got a more in depth look into the main characters .So many uncovering of things, unaliving, and so much action. Now the narrators did a superb job with the characters and made the book more realistic which gave me the chills. Because now days people will be people even without something major going on . I loved the storyline and the narration like I said above superb.

This book wrenches your heart up and down. The characters are so interesting. So many lives were hard before the emp; afterward, they must fight to survive. You hope some make it through this unbelievable change in the country and others the world could do without. The people they were to work beside, travel with, and trust were not the likely ones. Were they beneficial to their survival? Read and find out.

Book 2 did not disappoint! From the first page to the last I was caught up in the characters lives - cheering on our heroes and hating the bad guys. Hamilton is the kind of author who develops her characters so well and puts them through ‘the wringer’ so that we wait anxiously to celebrate their successes, and hope for more. This is a great series and I wait impatiently for number 3.

Bill and Shannon leave the supercenter and head towards Memphis. Kim and Dennis are also en route to Memphis but get held up in Humboldt by Dennis's Marine buddy, who turns out to be the town's dictator. Meanwhile, 18-year-old Lee becomes involved with Andre, believing Andre is better than his dad—a big mistake. This story is full of action, ending with a cliffhanger. Very highly recommended.

Fractured Days is book two of the After the End series and it picks up where book one Trapped Days left off so I recommend you start reading book one first. This is a well written, action packed post apocalyptic, page turning read. A lot is going on in this book but it makes the whole thing a great read. After that ending I can't wait to read the next book in this fantastic series. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.

This is the second book in the After the End Series, a post-apocalyptic Thriller series. The story continues where the first book left off. The storyline is full of adventure, action, danger, and unpredictable twists and turns. The story ends with a cliffhanger. Heather Jinmaku, Ron Butler, and Brad Grusnick did a great job bringing these characters, and this story to life. Looking forward to listening to Final Days, the next book in the series.

Loved how the story obviously picked up where Trapped Days (book 1) left off. You never knew if the long journey and Dennis’ drug addiction would get him where he needed to go. Kim fighting her own battles and wondering who she can trust. The narrators really picked it up on the second book. The man’s voice seemed more fitting. No spoilers, but great storyline and worth the time to find out where it was going. Great read

This is a good second book of the series! It follows new characters that are associated with the characters of the first book and continues on their journeys from the first book. This book had me very engrossed in it. This series so far is giving Walking Dead without the zombies vibes and I LOVE it! The characters are all interesting and there isn't a dall moment in the story, it is very action packed. This audio book also had a couple twists to the story that I did not see coming.

Written by Grace Hamilton
Narrated by Heather Jinmaku & Brad Grusnick

Dangerously, dark. Heartbreakingly, courageous. Fractured Days is a tale of survival that pulls at your heartstrings. Hamilton is not afraid to be raw. Jinmaku and Grusnick burn their way into the soul with haunting clarity.
