"It's as if we have invisible magnets attracting us to others we're meant to know."
Deb Whitaker's heart is deeply rooted in her hometown of Crown Island, located in Southern California. She cherishes every moment living in her beach house on Hibiscus Heights, sharing it with her loving shepherd-collie, Duke. Her passion for her hometown is reflected in her thriving interior design business. The recent cover story in "Coastal Design & Living" magazine and the upcoming grand reopening of the Majestic Hotel have further fueled her excitement for the future projects that lie ahead. With all her older brothers now married, she wishes that family and friends would respect her independence and stop making constant references to her being single. She is single by choice; one broken heart in a lifetime is enough. She doesn't need a plus one for the reopening event.

I adored this contemporary romance, which beautifully explores the theme of second chances in love. Crown Island serves as a stunning backdrop, with its breathtaking beach scenes, the iconic hotel, the charming Whitaker family home, and the ambiance of island businesses.

At the center of this enchanting story is Deb Whitaker, a truly inspiring character—independent, confident, creative, ambitious, and successful, all while being incredibly loyal to her family and friends.

What truly drew me in was the author's remarkable ability to capture the carefree essence of vacation moments, especially the delightful spontaneity and humor brought by two little boys. Their vibrant reactions—whether joyfully responding to adults, playing with a dog, or savoring ice cream—are vividly illustrated, making their expressions and conversations come alive. Their charm was irresistible, but would they still be delightful when she discovered their father's identity?

It's a heartwarming read that left me smiling! I highly recommend adding it to your summer reading list; it's an ideal beach read!

Thank you to Jan Moran and 1852 Media for the opportunity to read an eARC of this novel.

I can really relate to Deb, being an older lady who has been disappointed in love too many times to count. This one had me thinking about first love, and if he broke my heart (he did), would I want him back (no way).

That's all I will spill as far as the plot goes. I was happy, angry, hearts-in-the-eyes, and many other emotions as this story progressed. It was another fast read and a lot of fun, as per usual for her books!.

“'We shouldn’t wait to do what we love,' she said. 'We both know that all too well.'"

Deb Whitaker currently designer of the Majestic Hotel on Crown Island has a wonderful life. She grew up on the island but her designs were very tailored to the people she worked for and with. Her future looked bright.

And then the past comes back in the form of her old love Grant Emerson and his two sons. Their ending has been devastating and Deb never got over it.

In typical Jan Moran fashion we are quickly swept into might have been but now is now and where do we go from here as the final countdown begins on the grand reopening of the Majestic and Deb's future? Where will it go? You will have to read and find out.

Much like her other series, I have quickly become a great fan of Crown Island and will stay as long as Majestic has a room for me. Highly Recommended 5/5

The magnificent and historic Majestic Hotel on Crown Island, California is undergoing a massive renovation. Deb Whitaker is in charge of the interior decorating portion of the restoration. Deb loves her job, and she and her dog Duke lead a good life. Her friends and family, however, think she should find some romance to make it even better. Deb, however, hasn’t found the right man, and she doubts she ever will.

This was another delightful book from Jan Moran. Hibiscus Heights, book 4 in the Crown Island series, offers charming characters (I loved all of them, especially Teddy and Mason.), an enchanting locale, and a wonderful second-chance romance tale. It’s a story of romance, of course, but also of family, friendship, and kindness, of excellence in your career, and of never settling for anything except that which will truly make you happy. I enjoyed every page of this book, and I look forward, eagerly, to the next installment in this series.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book from the author. I thank her for her generosity, but it had no effect on this review. All opinions in this review reflect my true and honest reactions to reading this book.

For fans of Elin Hildebrand!

Hibiscus Heights is a great summer novel that takes you right into the beautiful atmosphere of Crown Island! Jan Moran transports you directly into the Majestic Hotel with her description of the resort renovations. At its heart, this is a beautiful love story about second chances later in life.

I enjoyed reading about Deb and her strong career as an interior designer but also her desire to be taken seriously and not looked down upon as an unmarried woman!

This was very sweetly written and a very fun summer beach read!

Deb Whitaker is a designer on the rise. She is just completing a major remodel of the famous Majestic hotel on Crown Island and it is almost time for the grand unveiling. It will be the event of the season and Deb has poured her heart and soul into this project. Her life is perfect, or is it? Everything is going as planned until she meets two little boys on vacation. They are super sweet and she has a soft spot for them. They have said a few things that have Deb wondering about their father, so she keeps a close eye on them.

When Deb finally meets their father, she is speechless. He is Grant, the boy she fell in love with so many summers ago. A boy who up and left without a goodbye and is now standing in front of her. Can Deb open up her heart again for a boy she once loved or should she stay hidden from finally getting her happily ever after?

Jan Moran brings us another beautiful story to compliment the Crown Island series. I loved Deb’s story and also catching up with some past characters. Jan does fill in the backstory so it could be read as a stand a lone novel, but reading the whole series is well worth it. The characters, the scenery, the sweet touch of mystery had me reading non stop. Now I anxiously await the next book! Thank you so much Jan Moran for my advanced readers copy which I voluntarily read and reviewed.

This is book four in The Crown Island series and it is Deb and Grant’s story and it is definitely a must read. Deb and Grant have history because at one time they met one summer and fell in love only for Grant to unexpectedly disappear which left Deb heartbroken and now years later they meet again. Deb had spent a year restoring and redesigning The Majestic Hotel on Crown Island and now it is nearly time for all the celebrations and just when everything in her life was going well a blast from her past arrives which just complicated her life especially as she had never stopped loving him. Grant is now a widow and had two boys who are his world but with the recent death of his father he has been helping his mother but now they are going to Crown Island for a holiday but the one thing that he wasn’t expecting is to see Deb again and he realised that he never stopped loving her. Deb had only been in love once and that ended in disaster so now in her mid fifties she feels like love had passed her buy and she had also lost the chance to have a family so she now concentrated on her work and when she sees Grant again it brings back all her memories that she wanted to forget but sometimes fate steps in and you can’t stop it no matter how hard you try. There are twists along with suspense, surprises, drama, loss, betrayal, hope and a love that stood the test of time but will Deb and Grant eventually get the second chance of the happiness and future that they always wanted and deserved especially after everything that they had been through in their lives. This was a beautiful and poignant second Chance romance and I read it in one sitting because I just couldn’t put it down as it was so addictive and kept my attention throughout. I love the way Jan describes everything in this book and you feel like you are there living through everything with them and I can’t wait to read the next book in this amazing series.

The fourth book in the Crown Island series focuses on Deb Whitaker. Deb is April’s best friend from childhood and an interior designer living on Crown Island. Deb is single and fiercely independent. Deb is currently working on the grand reopening of the Majestic Hotel and was recently featured in a home designers magazine. Deb finds a soft spot for two little boys Mason and Teddy, guests at the Majestic, and lovers of Deb’s dog Duke. Will Deb find happiness and finally find love when she runs into an old flame or will a sophisticated newcomer earn her heart. Will Deb recover from her broken heart to move forward?

Notes below the line are for me to remember the ending to the story.
—----------------------------------------------
Deb works out of the Majestic Hotel preparing for the grand opening. She meets Mason and Teddy who she later learns are the sons of her high school boyfriend Grant. Grant’s mother Kitty is relocating to Crown Island after her husband’s death. Kitty is looking for an interior designer. Grant’s wife Nicole died in a ski accident and Grant is looking to start over on Crown Island with his sons after some bullying in their California hometown. Deb’s brothers admit to sabotaging her relationships when she was in high school and college thinking they were being funny, but not realizing no men would come around anymore for Deb. The reason Grant and Deb broke up. She meets Matteo, but doesn’t have the spark like she did with Grant. Deb & Matteo remain friends and Deb ends up with Grant.

Hibiscus Heights, the fourth installment of Jan Moran’s Crown Island Series (which can be read as a stand-alone, but I highly recommend this entire series), tells Deb Whitaker’s story, and it’s a lovely and very satisfying one. Deb, who is featured in the first three books, was born and raised on Crown Island, and is like a sister to April Raines (whose story is told in the first book, Beach View Lane), is an interior designer who’s completing the renovation of the Majestic Hotel. The setting is the Southern California coast, and the Majestic bears similarities to the iconic Hotel del Coronado. While Deb’s story includes later in life second chances, choosing work and building a career over romantic relationships, and small-town charm, the reader is also treated to the grand unveiling of the new Majestic.

I’ve read all the books in this series, as well as Ms. Moran’s other two series, Summer Beach and Coral Cottage. Her characters, particularly women, are multi-dimensional and well-written; the dialogue and situations are realistic; and her descriptions of the beautiful CA beaches provide a true escape. I’m already looking forward to the fifth installment of this delightful beach series. Thank you to Ms. Moran for providing the opportunity to read the ARC. I’m voluntarily providing this sincere review.

Jan Moran delivers another delightful installment in her Crown Island Series with Hibiscus Heights. This summer on Crown Island is brimming with excitement, especially for beloved character, Deb.
Deb, a talented interior designer, is thrilled to see her work for the Majestic Hotel featured in the latest issue of Coastal Design & Living. While in her mid-fifties, Deb's friends, April and Ella, are eager for her to re-enter the dating scene. Despite a string of marriage proposals, Deb hasn't found "the one" and secretly wonders if she's too old for new love.
The grand reopening of the Majestic Hotel creates a flurry of activity as Deb and the new owner, Ryan Kingston, work tirelessly. Deb feels the immense pressure to ensure the hotel's success, knowing it could significantly boost her future clientele. As the season unfolds, Deb finds herself with two vying suitors: a familiar face from her past and a captivating new prospect. Who will capture Deb's heart? You'll have to read to find out if she chooses to embrace the past or welcome the new.

This is the 4th book in the Hibiscus series written by Jan Moran. These books are a nice, clean romance with its only little quirks in them. While it is a stand alone short book, it does help if you have read the other books in the series to understand the characters but especially the location. Crown Island, a small island off California that has its own stories and ghosts.

Deb Whitaker has had to prove herself numerous times over the years but now she has made a name for herself. With the completion of the Majestic Hotel remodel/redecoration and her work being shown in a well-known magazine everything is finally coming together. But then some people from her past show up on the island, one of which broke her heart years ago. The question is now can she let it go and realize that Grant and his 2 boys are what is missing not only from her life, but from her heart. Or is it too late for love to happen in her life.

Thanks to 1852 Media and the author for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

Hibiscus Heights Oh yes, I want to be living on this island called Crown Island, experiencing what the lady whose name is Deb is experiencing. I always wanted to be an interior designer—oh yes, dream job—while living on an island with her only responsibility being her sweet dog, Duke.

Deb runs into the sons of her former boyfriend, Grant, who ghosted her many years ago. Ultimately she felt he had been the love of her life. Her dog, Duke, chooses his children of all children to play with on the beach one day during a run. She had no clue initially that Grant was their father when she took a liking to these little boys, as their demeanor was off & she felt the need to make sure they were okay, as they seemed afraid of their father. Reading about the Whitakers & the other families on this island was very entertaining & had me flipping the pages, not wanting to put the book down. Such a lovely, picturesque life, where an old flame creeps up in the most random way.I received this as an ARC reader and am leaving my unbiased review.

A Heartfelt, Beautifully Written Story of Second Chances

I just finished Hibiscus Heights by Jan Moran and thoroughly enjoyed it! I’ve read nearly all of Jan’s books, and each one has left me with a smile and a satisfied feeling. This fourth book in the Crown Island series is no exception. I love how Jan seamlessly weaves in the background of the characters and places, giving readers just the right refresher from where the last story left off.

This book shines a spotlight on interior designer Deb Whitaker as she prepares for the grand reopening of the Majestic Hotel—a project she’s poured her heart and soul into. Just as she’s ready to celebrate her success and new relationship, the past unexpectedly resurfaces when Grant, the man who once held her heart, reappears on Crown Island.

Jan Moran does a wonderful job capturing Deb’s independence, strength, and vulnerability. The story beautifully explores themes of love, heartbreak, and whether it’s ever too late for a second chance. Crown Island once again sparkles with charm, community, and hope.

If you love heartfelt stories with relatable characters and a touch of romance, Hibiscus Heights is a must-read. Jan Moran delivers another winner!

Making the most of their second chance

Hibiscus Heights is the fourth book in the Crown Island series. The series should be read in order as there is an overarching story-line and characters, with each book focusing on one couple. This is the story of Deb and Grant with a second chance romance. I loved Deb as she is living her life the best way she is able to. She has become a successful interior designer who is just finishing up the restoration of the Majestic Hotel on Crown Island. It has been a lot of work to design and restore the interior but it is about to all become a success for her. But at the grand reopening her world is turned upside down when Grant, her first and truly only love, walks back into her life. What happens next is a sweet, clean and entertaining journey.

Tropes: Second chance romance, later-in-life romance
Spice level: 🚫

First, I would like to thank 1852 Media and the author for the advanced copy of this book!

This was such a sweet second chance romance! I really enjoyed reading about Deb and Grant's love story! It was nice to read a romance with older main characters as well. I really enjoyed all the characters on Crown Island. They were all so charming and sweet. Reading this book made me want to visit to a small beach town. This book is the fourth book in the Crown Island series. I did not read any of the other books in the series before reading this one, but all of the books in the series can be ready as standalones. Reading this book made me want to read the rest of the series, and I can't wait to read more and return to Crown Island. Overall, this was just a really sweet and enjoyable book!

On book 4 of the Crown Island series, we get to read the story of Deb Whitaker and her got away and what could have been love Grant.
When Grant left her unexpectedly so many years ago he left Deb heartbroken and scarred for life against love, granted he was a summer fling when they were still teenagers, or so she thought after the fact, even though they were madly in love.
And now, even after so many years she is still only devoted to her job as an interior designer and doing the biggest job of her career, renovating and decorating The Majestic. But now Grant is back in the island and all of her feelings for him are also back. Can she avoid these feelings or should she lean into them and get the love of her life back?
This was a great book to read, one full of great characters and a good story, perfect to continue the journey of the Crown Island habitants.

Hibiscus Heights is the perfect beach read with its later in life romance between Deb, a career driven interior designer who is completing the restoration of the Crown Island's Majestic Hotel, and Grant, a widower with two boys who returns to the island once again after ghosting her in the past. Deb first meets the boys and immediately feels a maternal pull toward them. Grant was Deb's first love and she finds her feelings for him still present after all this time. This fantastic second chance romance has fantastic characters and a heartfelt romantic plot. I highly recommend this well written book.

“We shouldn’t wait to do what we love”

This is the first book by Jan Moran I have read. This is book 4 in the series and I need to go back and read the first three books. I fell in love with Crown Island and the Majestic Hotel! The descriptions of the resort renovations has me feeling like I was there.
Deb is independent, and strong. Has never married.
She runs into Grant, the man she really truly ever loved from her past at the Majestic Hotel.
A story of friendship, family, romance, second chances, secrets, love, adventure set in a charming beach town.

I received an ARC prior to publication and decided to voluntarily review it.

First, I want to say that I did enjoy this book. I loved the small town beach vibes, the second chance romance, and the fact that these characters are a little further along in their lives than I am. Deb was a confident, smart businesswoman who learned to love her independence. Her first love, Grant, comes back to town with his family, taking her completely off guard. There were some misunderstandings about what happened between them, but even after that was resolved, Deb had a hard time letting go and moving forward. Thankfully this story does have a happy ending. I think this would be a fun book to read while on a relaxing beach vacation.

Hibiscus Heights is such a charming addition to Jan Moran's series! I've truly loved rollowing Deb's journey, and this fourth book gave her story such a hearttent layer of love and hope. Teddy and Mason completely stole my heart, they brought such an innocent, sweet, and uplifting touch to the narrative that made me smile so many times.

Jan Moran's writing style is one of my favorites, her stories gre always filled with emotion, warmth, and a sense of comfort. This book was no different, it's beautifully written, easy to read, and full of those little moments that stay with you.

I thoroughly enjoyed it and loved every chance to step back into this world.

This is a perfect Summer beachy read! Jan Moran has once again brought us to Crown Island on the Southern California coastline with her exciting story about the Majestic Hotel and the plans being made by everyone for its Centennial Grand Reopening. Questions are answered about events in the past that are coming to light between the main characters, Deb and Grant that kept them apart many years earlier. I really love this series and recommend it highly. I’m looking forward to the next adventure in her next book.

I have been fortunate enough to have read all of the Jan Moran’s books and I can safely say that I have enjoyed them all. This one is no exception. It is a second chance story that warmed my heart. The characters are realistic and easy to identify with. Being from San Diego it is easy to picture the Hotel del Coronado (look it up) as the Majestic. This was a quick read for me, can’t wait for the next book

Set in the beautiful Crown Island, Jan Moran presents a story full of heart and hope, with the main character, Deb, finally taking a chance on love. The story is full of all our favorite charming locals, as well as a few new friends.

Hibiscus Heights is another winner from Jan Moran. A light, feel-good read set in a charming beachside town. The story follows Deb Whitaker and along the way there’s a mix of friendship, romance, and small-town drama—with just enough conflict to keep things moving but nothing too heavy.

Jan’s writing is breezy and visual, making it easy to imagine the setting. The characters are warm and the plot is enjoyable in that cozy, satisfying way.

If you enjoy stories about second chances, seaside charm, and a touch of romance, this is a nice weekend escape. It’s definitely hard to put down.

Hibiscus Heights by Jan Moran is book number four in the Crown Island series. If you are a reader of this series, you welcome back the friends you’ve made along the way. Deb Whitaker has finished her design for the Majestic hotel’s reopening. During her rounds of the hotel, she runs into two cute little boys, Teddy and Mason. She soon finds out that they are the sons of the only man she ever loved. Can they find their way back to each other? As with all of Jan Moran‘s books, this is another very sweet story. Enjoy!

Hibiscus Heights is a great summer read. It is set in a beach town that is celebrating the renovation of it's hotel. It has romance and second chances. Deb is one of the main caracters and she has worked hard to make a name for herself as a decorator and designer. As a teenager, she had her heart broken so has concentrated more on her career than her personal life. She needs to think about her ersonal life wen her first love returns.
I love Jan Moran books and this is no exception. I can't wait for the next one.
