Baked Goods & Black Magic

Rate this book
I thought I was a Beta, until four hulking Alpha’s trigger my heat.

Turns out, I’m an Omega. Lucky me. I mean, who wouldn’t want to be pampered by four gorgeous Alpha’s?

My dull life as a baker suddenly bursts with color, but not everything is peaches and cream. A string of murders sends my fated mates on a wild hunt for a beast.

Is it a normal creature prowling the forest… or something more sinister?

When I’m suddenly taken from my possessive Alpha’s, they won’t stop until they find me. Hopefully, they’ll rescue me before it’s too late.

This is part 1 of a duet. It ends on a slight cliffhanger. This is a why-choose, omegaverse romance set in a magical world. This is recommended for 18+ as there is adult language, intimate situations (open-door romance), and some violence.

This is my favorite omega-verse Ive ever read. Is it because it incorporates more of the fantasy world in it? Probably. I am a fantasy junkie. I admit this. But its more than that though. A lot of omega-verse books are very “we are mates, and then wham bam, thank you mam”. With tons of spice. I felt this one had a lot more going on than that. Which dont get me wrong this one has all that (loved the spice!), but it just has more. So much more! It is more, and I loved it.

This a Fantasy Romance set in an Omega-Verse. The romance in this book is a why choose, with mates. The book is extremely spicy. There is spicy language, with very descriptive spicy scenes. The book moves at a steady pace as Luella a woman who owns a bakery, life changes when 4 alphas come into town for the market. These alphas bring out a side of her that she never knew existed, a side that a beta shouldnt have. Along with these handsome alphas comes dark magic, and murders. Leading her on a path she never expected for a simple baker. This book is steamy, exciting and a refreshing take on the omega-verse genre.

I love this book so much and instantly found myself highly invested in literally every character we met along the way. I loved all the main characters, however pretty sure I was a Gin stan from the instant we got introduced to him. Something about a big grumpy man of few words that I love 🤣🩷 Overall I found this book addicting and I couldnt put it down from the moment I started it. The story was exciting and moved forward at a good pace, the love interests all had distinct personalities which i loved, and of course the spice was spicy. Also as someone with a background in baking I loved that the FMC's passion was something I could relate to. I will be patiently waiting for the second half of this Duet because there are just so many more questions that need answers.

This is what I want when I read a fantasy omegaverse.

I sometimes find it hard to connect the two but it’s done so beautifully here I could not put it down.

I love quirky Luella. She’s awkward, hyper and rambles most of the time.

All of her men are so distinct it’s not hard to differentiate between them. Gin, Blue and the Orcs might be my favorites.

Luella’s life is turned upside down when the market comes to her small village. One things after the other you won’t get bored following her journey.

And the SPICE! Things got hot hot hot quick(not that I’m complaining) and kept getting hotter.

If you like fantasy, wild adventures, omegaverse, surprise heats, large harems, RUN and read this.

I can’t wait to meet more of her mates and see where her story goes!!

1.5 rounded up, DNF at 80%. The writing was just so bad. All tell and no show. Almost exactly, "In our world there are orcs, giants, fae, shifters, and magic users. We also have omegas, alphas, and betas." There's a "just one horse scene" with zero tension or build up written in, just literally "he touched me there until I got off." The end. Even the inner thinking writing is just, "I like these men." The premise is cute and has a lot of potential but the writing is just mind numbing.

Luella is a sweet beta baker living in a small village, content with her life and her best friend. She looks forward to the times when the market is open and outside visitors come to buy her baked goods and although she misses her parents (they died when she was a young teenager) she's ok.

Then she runs into (literally) these new guys at the market who smell wonderful to her. She slowly meets the pack that's there (one stayed home) and it turns out they're there hunting creatures that have been killing across the land. They followed the smell of one nearby...hence the reason for their presence at this market. But now they found Luella...and it turns out Luella is actually an omega!!

Luella knows NOTHING about being an omega since they are rare to begin with and her parents aren't around. She leaves with the guys and trouble seems to follow them!

This is the first book in a duet and I can't wait for the next! It was an easy read and even though fantasy isn't my first choice of genre, I really enjoyed this one. Can't wait for book 2!!!

Really good first book by this author. It was well written with a good story line. It is the first in a series so if you start now just know it will end on a cliffhanger.

There is LOTS of spice I actually think some of it took away from the story a little bit. I also understand that with the amount of mates as she has to keep them all happy there will be lots of spicy times.

I do look forward to book 2 to hopefully get some answers to questions!

I enjoyed the storyline and it kept me interested!
There was a bit of mystery, drama, humor, lots of spice, and more!!

I think Luella was a great FMC. She was sweet. Her inner monolog and her anxieties only me made me love her more.
I'm loving her Alphas so far too. I like that they are all so different.

Overall, I think this was a great start and I can't wait to read book 2!!

Leave us hanging like that?!

Holy crap! The book must be magic. It kept me ensnared until the very end. Now I’m left hanging and I’m like an addict looking for the next hit. When will the next book be out?! I MUST know!

A good fantasy story ,slow burn with a good storyline.Ends in a cliffhanger but promisses that good things are coming.

Super spicy with all the feels of a omegaverse ,and with the amount of mates she has we can expect the heat will keep rising.

The cliffhanger left me wanting to read the 2nd book and get the answers to all the questions left in the air!

DNF at 32%

So I hate to give such a low star rating, but to DNF at that percentage I just can’t do anything else. My understanding is this is a new author. I think the plot behind it could be really great, but the writing is very stilted and does not flow. Characters need flushed out way more. Now I have read some naive FMC, but this one takes the cake, she is beyond naive to plain clueless. She is so agreeable and accepting and just is ok yep so this guy is doing this so ok sounds good. No questioning of anything. Oh I’m yours? Ok sounds good. Oh you are part of a pack and I’m yours now? Oh okay, but let me go back some things, but I have a store to run, but also have to sell at a market, but then back to the bakery. I think maybe an outline of the story concept would have been great, then flush out each individual character in more detail would have helped. Even the smexy scenes were more clinical. I don’t know what else to say except I’m sorry for the one star AR Lines. I really hated to do that, but this just needs some work.

Okay this book was amazing!!!
I am always a sucker for a good omegaverse reverse harem!
Add in monsters and I will usually love it!
And this one was no exception!!!

Hand Tawson and Gin over please and thank you 😍😍
Also I can't wait to meet Alec! Cause I need Luella to have all of her men.

The plot kept me hooked in too! I loved the tension and the build up.
AND CAN WE TALK ABOUT THE ENDING?!?!?!
I NEED BOOK 2!!!
I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS!

jesus christ. a heavy DNF. these characters all lack personality and just instantly fawn over the MC without even knowing her. the writing style is… adequate. there’s no spelling errors or anything but it’s just so boring— sorry. the author rather than builds the world just throws the information at you. not for me. DNF’d at 20%

This very long omegaverse story is set in a fantasy world.

You can skip the prolog as it is just defining the world, similar to a fanfic opening chapter of explaining what is typical canon and how they will deviate from the canon for their fanfic. This prolog defines how omegaverse stories usually work and how this story will branch off of the standard.

While I did enjoy the story, and the deeper you get into it, the more exciting the subplots get, there are several parts that keep this from being exceeding "average" expectations. First the verb tense changes kept throwing me out of the story. Second, especially at the start, the POV speaker narrative is very simple with a standard noun+verb sentence structure with little variation on sentence length creating a repetitive feel.

Finally, and this didn't help with the repetitive feel at all, nearly every single piece of information is repeated three times, at least during the first third of the book which I read. Stuff like:

I felt like I needed to ask him the question. "I am going to ask you a question." I am glad I asked the question as it relieved my anxiety. (example, not actually in the book - and usually these pieces of repeated information are in three different paragraphs but nearly always those three paragraphs are on the same page)

The story could have been about 1/3 the size of present manuscript if the excess words are removed and the sentence structure is made more complicated. Definitely feels like an unwieldy, but interesting, fanfic more than an edited story (since she does thank an editor in the acknowledgements, I know the story has been edited).

The sex is often and varied, living up to why omegaverse eroticas are popular. Bonus star for the commitment to the Baked Goods part of the storyline.

Note that Baked Goods is the first of a Duet set, which really are one story as this book ends on a slight cliffhanger. Both parts are out so no wait reading, plus the beginning of the next Duet set in the same universe (the bestie friend will get her men too).

I do see growth as a writer in the over 200 pages which I did read, but when I stopped for the night, I stopped for good (after seeing what the next two books were about - because the plot is interesting enough to want to know a little more). Solid three star effort (if verb tense switches don't bother you).

I received the book while doing character art for it as an aid to the research process. This is my honest review.

The book was a pleasant surprise, as I normally don't read omegaverse stories.
In this story we get to know Luella, the FMC, she's always led a pretty quiet life in a small village. Right in the beginning the author gives something of a backstory and an explanation to this land called Saforia and their beings and how they are scent oriented. So if someone smells really good they knew they are compatible mates, if they smell just ok or good they are friends or relatives, but if the scent is unpleasant so that person is likely to cause them harm or be an enemy. It felt a little too factual and the pace was a little off, but then with the "rules" out of the way we got to relax and enjoy the story without thinking too hard about what is what. It turned out that I welcomed the early explanation because it was the first time that I really understood an omegaverse story.

It's rare to find such a likeable main character. Luella is a combination of sweet, kind, naive, stubborn, outspoken, fierce and totally ADHD coded. Her curiosity and good nature led to the most funny and heartwarming interactions, where she would absolutely say what was on her mind with no filter!
Then there is the pack. Trust me, it will be very hard to choose a favorite. I tried...
Each one of the Alphas in the pack bring something absolutely adorable to their "little" family, plus they all are super hot.

This is the perfect story for a cozy read, the found family vibe is really wholesome. I thought about it as low stakes high fantasy, but make no mistake, there is plenty of action and plenty of spice...like really steamy, hot spice. It's just that with so many strong males to come and burn the world down to get their mate to safety we never fear for Luella, we know she will be ok.

I can't wait to know the rest of the story and to know more about the true identity of our lovely omega. I loved her sweet nature so much, I feel like they are my family too!

I really enjoyed this fantasy omegaverse!

Luella has been living on her own for years - working in her bakery and thinking that she is a beta. When she encounters some new faces at the town's market day, they quickly discover that she is an omega and her heat is triggered by meeting some of her mates. Unfortunately, her mates were not in town looking for her, but investigating a string of attacks by a beast. As Luella and her mates make their way to the pack's keep in the capital, they must contend with dark forces that are trying to capture Luella and use her for some unknown purpose.

Luella was so adorable! I loved the way that she was so nervous around her mates and tended to ramble a lot. I also like that she had some definite fire. She was not the quiet and submissive omega that her mates may have expected, but she was exactly what they needed. I really enjoyed that all of Luella's mates are distinct from each other. Even though they can be similar in some ways, they each have their own unique personalities and stories. I also really liked that she made a point to emphasize that her beta was not more or less important or loved than any of her alphas. Although, I did think it was kind of funny to read about her trying to figure out how to balance her affections amongst them. I absolutely loved Blue and I hope we get more of his story in book 2! Also, I can't wait to meet the rest of Luella's pack!

🪄High Fantasy
💙Omegaverse
🪄Touch her ☠️
💙Disablity Rep
🪄Large Harem

This is AR Lines debut novel and she did such an amazing job creating this whole new world and bringing to life all these different fantasy beings.

Luella thinks she is just a human beta but it turns out she is not. When she meets the Foreastra pack during market in her little village her life changes and she is taken on a whole new adventure that is not always fun or good and is full of new and dangerous times.

It was wonderful meeting each of the characters and how different they were in personality but the guys all had one thing in common and that was how sweet on her and possessive they are of their little omega. She does have an anxious personality but it’s cute when she just spits out things she is thinking. Oh and the spice… yes LOTS of spice to enjoy.

This is only book one and the second book should be coming soon but I wouldn’t say that the ending leaves us hanging so that was good but it does leave you wanting to know more and how things will work out for her. What the evil crazy person wants with her and will there be more added to her harem.

Curiouser and curiouser

This books was fantastic. There is so much going on and so much we still don't understand at the end of this book.

So first off we have the human beta baker who lost her family and just has a few friends and her bakery. She grew up in a tiny village tucked away. When her parents died her friends family helped her but she has pretty much been alone since.

However, all of this changes when a stranger come into her bakery with a scent that she wants to devour. Turns out he is part of a pack. Three other pack members are also in the village and smell just as delicious. The last member of their pack is back home.

These men unlock some secrets about the little baker. The reason they were actually in town leads them on an epic adventure. Black magic, beasts, unknown genetics, and kidnapping lead to many discoveries.

Something or someone has some seriously nefarious plans that we do not yet understand but I am absolutely here to discover. I can't wait to see what adventures or mishaps this pack will face in the next book.

This book is full of so many unique monsters, creatures and magical elements. I love that this book has been full of surprises.

Welcome to the land of Saforia, where Fae, Shifters, Humans, Goblins and many other beings live amongst each other side by side. This is A.R. Line’s first book and I have to say “Brava!” I did a blind read and was so surprised by the storyline and characters!
I love Omegaverse books and I was happily surprised to find out this was an Omegaverse read! You have a self-conscious, beautiful FMC who loves to bake and finds out she is not who she thought she was. You have sexy and otherwordly MMCs who are definitely not what they appear to be. You have adventure, drama, twists and steamy love scenes. What’s not to love in this book?!
Thank you, A.R. Lines for such a sweet, sexy and lovely read! I cannot wait to find out what you’ll be writing next!

So, I completely forgot to write this review until I finished the second book. All in all, I enjoyed the series. The characters were well done and relatable, the spice was spicy, and I enjoy instalove romance. The world building was well done, and I liked the fantasy twist which can be hard to find in omegaverse reads.

So, why only 4 stars. Well, as much as I liked it, it jumped around a bit and at times was difficult to follow, plus a lot of the dialogue would have benefited from conjugation, as it felt stilted and formal.

That being said, I would still totally recommend this book, as a nice merger of omegaverse and romantasy.

A fun read! My only experience with reading A/B/O romance was wattpad werewolf romance. So this is definitely a step up in many ways; plot, character variation, and writing. I was definitely very startled by the sex scene(this is my first actual A/B/O book) being very explicit and imo well written.

Pacing feels nice although I did get small whiplash from the progression from plot to sex.

Definitely going to read the second book since I'm curious how the (maybe) last Alpha is.

Great first book by AR Lines. I loved the omegaverse mixed with fantasy. There was great story and character building along with lots of spice. The mmcs all had such different personalities, but fit together to be the pack that Luella needs. This book does end on a cliffhanger, so be prepared to wait for the next book!

This book is slightly hard to read but at the same time I desperately want to know what happens next. It feels like the author took every single trope she's ever heard of and smashed them all in. Unfortunately because of the volume of trends and threads, the plot and character profiles are a bit underwhelming. The editing is pretty poor and a lot of details just feel forced into the story.

Very Interesting

This is a really interesting book. It is totally different from anything that I have read before and can’t wait until the next book is out. The RH is a good mix of different species that seem to blend well together. I recommend this book for anyone who likes RH and a mix of species

This was my first fantasy omegaverse. And boy did I enjoy it. Luella spent her whole life thinking she was just a normal beta human. But when 4 hot alphas stumble into her life her whole life changes in a blink of an eye. Her hidden omega comes to life and get lots of spice, knots, and every expanding pack/harem. I love the high fantasy aspect of this book. Can't wait to jump into book 2 to see how things end of Luella and her guys.

Really good!

Unfortunately, I ended up dnf this book at 51% but I had already been skipping through a lot of the chapters. The story seemed intriguing and I really wanted to give it a go. The characters could’ve been enjoyable, but unfortunately, I already did not enjoy the writing style.

Quick burn, cute plot

This is definitely insta connection, insta love for some. We have a sudden omega awakening, a growing harem, and black magic. Poor Lu, she just wants to best and bake, but she keeps getting attacked .... Whatever will happen next...

Not sure

I’m not sure about this story. The baked goods is such a small part of the entire story. But then there’s the main character. She’s in her late 20’s but acts like a teenager. There are multiple misspellings including character names. The story flow is off for me.
