3.75 Stars!

The tropes, the art style, the story, it's all too entertaining, incredible and relatable. This manga is so fast paced that it feels like one second you're closing your eyes to blink and the once you opened them again you have already finished reading it.

'That Beauty is a Tramp' leans more onto the new adult category, so if you're interested in that genre and you like fake dating and when the mmc becomes the coach and teaches the fmc to be more confident in herself to date, then you should definitely read this!

I can't wait to read the next volumes!

This is one of those mangas that I would continue reading just for the art style, as the story and main characters are rather forgettable. It’s not that I hated them — I liked the heroine, but the hero didn't appeal to me at all, as male characters who sleep with many people aren't exactly my type. I think I could have even survived this fact if the romance between Nagi and Aran was more slow-burn-ish, but the insta-love/lust didn't help either. Anyway, it was a cute read, but I’ll see if I reach for the second volume.

MAIN REVIEW:

👜 → I love the art-style and the details in each panel, it is a little all over the place at the very start but it gets better

👜 → The fmc, Nagi, is a girl who usually dresses as a guy and hates being touched by other men, shes an aromantic who happens to also love romance novels and pretty girls. I know people like her, I feel like a lot of people will love her character. Her conversations felt a little robotic at the start but you start to understand a little better and see why she is, the way she is.

👜 → The mmc, Aran, is an androgynous model and I enjoy his character but it was kinda insta-lovey which really isn’t my cup of tea but then again I did really enjoy it.

👜 → I finished this within 20-30 minutes. it’s very fast paced so I highly recommend it for people looking to read something fast paced with a good art-style.

I admit, with a title and cover like that, I wasn't expecting a lot, but this surprised me with how well done and thoughtful it was. It wasn't just lustlustlust or the MC H's magic wand can cure the MC h's every ill, though he "isn't-like-all-the-boys", it's at least in an unusual and unique way.

The artwork was pretty, the characters played well off one another and the storyline was just realistic, just wish fulfillment balanced enough to work.

4, recommended and I will be seeking out the next volume in the series, stars.

My thanks to NetGalley and Kodansha for an eARC of this book to read and review.

Gosh I just adored this one!!!

The art is so amazing. So, so pretty. And you get a few, gorgeous colored pages throughout which was a nice surprise.

These characters are both so loveable. I wasn't sure what to expect because I went in blind, but gender bending Aran absolutely stole my heart. And Nagi is very fun too. Lots of great tension building, cute scenes, and very character focused. I would absolutely read more from this series!

[Thanks to Netgalley and Kodansha for an ARC of this book in exchange for an unbiased review.]

Nagi had a bad encounter with a pushy guy that has her unable to touch men. She’s a huge fan of the beautiful female model Aran, however. But when Aran turns out to be an androgynous dude with a lust for life, amongst other things, this might be a more touching story than Nagi suspects!

This starts off firmly in the guilty pleasure camp, offering a real opportunity for fans of ‘hot androgyny’ to see a stunning beauty woo a somewhat masculine presenting female and all the lasciviousness that implies.

Fortunately, there’s a little more going on underneath its admittedly attractive hood and that smidgen of depth makes this an easier recommend than if it was just pretty and thirsty, although it is plenty of both.

One way this gets things right is by having two leads who are both fun and very hot for one another. Nagi’s inexperience is one of those tropes that does drive me a little nuts, but she’s soon making up for lost time, more or less.

Aran is just pure eye candy, but the story makes him a pretty amusing foil who is definitely pushy (especially with the goofy turn things take later on) without being as problematic as is typical. He backs off when he’s told no and also clearly likes Nagi just fine as she is.

Even better, they give us more perspective on his, well, perspective towards the end and we see that his outward coolness isn’t entirely unflappable in the face of a girl he’s suddenly very attracted to. There’s never a question of whether he sees something in Nagi, but showing that it means more than his usual flings is a great idea.

The art makes all this better than it would be too - you can see why Aran is as beloved as he is and Nagi’s clearly hiding a stunning look of her own that gets brought out via a little jolt of confidence. This is an especially gorgeously drawn book where it needs it.

Does it move real fast? Oh yeah, it does. But, in a way, that almost makes sense. Nagi has been suppressing her desires AND sweet on Aran (since she thought he was a woman) for ages. Aran’s very, very freewheeling with his affections as well.

Even the mild slut-shaming is gender swapped so it doesn’t come across quite as mean as it could. It also doesn’t hurt that Aran couldn’t care less about such things. And he happily tosses his hedonism aside for Nagi anyway.

Adult romances that tend towards the goofy side can be a little bit of a hard sell, but this one gets the right balance between Nagi’s overreactions and the increasing steaminess of the encounters.

Plus, watching Aran work wonders on Nagi’s self-confidence is one of the best parts of the story. He’s all about believing in yourself and Nagi gets a couple of glow-ups that are both well-realized (the fashion in this one is real fun) and believable.

Thus we have two people who are good for one another getting real close, yet not quite sealing the deal. A typical manga story, but this version of it tells it quite well and gets the details right. Definitely more than it appears.

3.5 stars - yes, this is a very ‘heavy petting friendly’ wish fulfillment story, but it’s a great example of the type and I expected it to be not much fun and full of problems and it was basically the opposite of that.

That Beauty Is A Tramp tells the story of Nagi, who is haunted by a past trauma involving a male friend who tried to touch her while drunk. Because of this, she trembles whenever a man touches or holds her, even accidentally. Nagi wants to date like anyone else, but she can't move past her trauma. Then, Aran-chan enters her life. When he touches her chin, her body doesn't react. Seizing the moment, Nagi asks Aran to be her temporary boyfriend for a month.

OMG!!! I never thought I’d get into this kind of genre. I usually go for slow-burn romances, but now I find myself enjoying fast-paced romance too, depending on the plot and how it keeps me hooked. I can’t get enough of Aran-chan and Nagi. They are so adorable together! Their chemistry is amazing as they get to know each other. How will Nagi handle her feelings? Holy guacamole! And to make things even more intense, Aran decides to move in with Nagi. Ughhh. I can’t wait to read the second volume already.

Overall, I highly recommend this to anyone over 18 because it’s a bit spicy. If you love romance, this is definitely worth your time!

thank you netgalley for the eARC.

The cover of this manga is what drew me to it, knowing nothing about the plot, so I was definitely a little confused going into it. I liked how it started but then things got a little rushed. We don’t know what the protagonist’s job is nor why Aran picked her, it all feels very surface level.

The art style was gorgeous and I liked a few of the later plot developments such as him moving in with her but I definitely feel like we skipped lots of chapters where the author could have spent time developing the characters as a whole as well as the plot and skipped straight to fake dating which is frustrating because I love that trope and would’ve really enjoyed this more if it was better written. I will still be reading volume 2 when it is available simply because despite my issues with this volume, it hasn’t taken away my interest in the story.

This is fantastic! It has a good premise and pacing. The FMC doesn't have a hugely traumatic background for her aversion to men, which is nice, and she's so cute. The MMC reminds me of Hotohori from Fushugi Yugi, and the androgynous model persona is genius.

This gets going very quickly and covers a lot of ground by the end. I wish there was more to it, more chapters to the volume, but I will look for future publications and happily recommend my local library purchase this.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for access to this eARC.

Okay, LISTEN...

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this! It's so cute. I love Aran and Nagi together and I'm curious to see how they grow and learn more about themselves. I like that Nagi is comfortable telling Aran when she doesn't like something, and Aran actually listens to her and stops.

The only thing that was throwing me off was the fact that her name is Nagi and my favorite character from Blue Lock is Nagi. So my brain had to adjust to that. But that was a ME problem.

Thank you to Kodansha for the ARC. All thoughts and opinions expressed are entirely my own.

e-ARC from NetGalley

This story follows a woman who, after a traumatic incident in college, can't stand to be touched by men. Even a polite handshake is too much. When she discovers her favorite female model is actually an androgynous male model whose touch she can withstand, the pair comes to an agreement: He'll teach her how to be in a relationship and she'll costar in an important upcoming photoshoot.

I've read quite a few tonally similar manga over the years. The hot guy taking a sudden, dramatic interest in a shy, inexperienced girl is a common premise and a popular one.

There were elements of this that worked for me. I liked the exploration of trauma and the protagonist's confusion when her love interest did not behave in a stereotypically pushy male way when exploring physical intimacy. I thought the art style was beautiful and depicted the sensuality beautifully.

What didn't work for me was the instalove. Almost immediately, our male lead is extremely jealous and possessive. Though he never forces himself on our mc, he does manhandle her often. It's presented as being for her own good, but I found it pretty jarring. It would have made more sense, from my perspective, for them to have progressed more quickly physically without realizing how tied up they were emotionally.

This manga definitely has its audience. If I stumbled upon the first few volumes at the library, I would doubtlessly read them one after another. I'm not sure they'd rank much higher than a 3 star rating without some significant emotional development, though. I've learned that my tastes in romantic manga tend more towards a sense of gentle, growing admiration. Which this might have. In time.

tl;dr
The art carries with beautifully illustrated characters and a rather lightweight plot.

Thoughts
For a book about a supermodel, the art definitely rises to the occasion. As expected, Aran is beautiful and sexy at every turn, but the other characters are also gorgeous, all rendered with clean, detailed lines and tones. The character designs are exceptionally appealing, with both leads leaning hard on androgyny. A handful of sexy scenes and moments of undress are appropriately salacious, but don't expect full spice on this one.

The plot itself is barely there: instant attraction paired with a series of coincidences push Nagi and Aran's lives together, allowing the reader to jump from one sexy scene to the next with very little friction. This is probably also where readers will find themselves split. Aran can be fairly possessive at times. He also moves in with Nagi without bothering to ask for permission. There's already enough discussion about these tropes that I don't need to weigh in on whether this is trashy guilty pleasure, or just trashy. You already know how you feel about this. There are a handful of discussions about gender expectations in society that might lead to more of a deconstruction of the tropes, but for now the story plays it straight.

Thanks to NetGalley and Kodansha for a review copy. All thoughts in this review are my own.

Kodansha Comics provided an early galley for review.

When it comes to manga for me, an eye-catching cover or an interesting premise is usually what pulls me in. Both were present with this series, which was originally published in 2020 in Japan.

As expected, the artwork is fantastic. Since the story is centered in the world of photography and fashion, it is only natural to see the characters dressed in amazing outfits. Osaka conveys the styles and fabrics flawlessly with his linework and inking techniques. And, the character faces are just beautiful.

As for the story itself, it is very much an adult romance filled to the brink with sexual tension. The emotions and desires run high throughout. Of course, the plot tends to go down a typical path which sets up the stakes for the next volume. However, even if it is built upon narrative themes as old as time, it still manages to keep it fresh with the aforementioned style and fashion.

Since the story itself sets up a temporary time limit of one month, hopefully this story will not be drawn out too long before reaching its conclusion. I would be very happy for another couple of volumes at least as long as the quality remains at the high level of this first one.

The world of fashion and model. I can't be the only one who immediately though of one of the best manga series of all time Paradise Kiss? And because of that, you can imagine my surprise when I started reading this book.

I would say this is definitely more of a new adult type of manga but after the initial shock, I actually enjoyed this a lot! This was very quick and fun read. The art style is really beautiful and both of the main characters are fascinating, will definitely be picking up the next volume!

If you enjoyed mangas like ParaKiss which I already mentioned or Nana too or anything similar, I'm sure you will enjoy this one as well!

Thank you NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for the ARC!

I love LOVE the artwork, but the plot of the story? Not so much, sadly. I love the female lead and her personality, but as much as I love the male lead’s character design (please he’s so gorgeous, I love my men beautiful with long hair ✨), I don’t really vibe with his personality. I like that Aran’s gentle with Nagi, but I’m not fond of characters who sleeps around with lots of people, and he can be rather pushy with Nagi too at some point.

The love trope in this one felt too insta-love, and some of the scenes don’t mesh well together. One time they’re talking, and the next thing they’re half naked, but they’re not actually doing the deed either? It left me with a jarring feeling. I would have liked it if the romance is just a little bit slow-burn, but that’s just my opinion, I guess.

Despite not liking the plot much, I think I’d like to read the next volume if I have the opportunity, just so I can have more eye-candy to feast on 💖🎀 the artwork is too pretty, especially for Aran, but I have a feeling that Nagi will be prettier too from now onwards as she venture more into the fashion world with Aran’s help.

Thanks to Netgalley for providing me the arc in exchange for an honest review.

The arts in this manga is very beautiful! The story is very fast-paced. I think i read this one in like 30 minutes.

Nagi is a very insecure girl that dresses most of the time as a guy and feels comfortable in that kind of clothes. She doesn't want to be touched by other men. I feel curious about her, why she acts the way she does.
Aran is an androgynous model who might be interested in Nagi. It's an insta love. I didn't like the fact the he is sleeping with multiple people to be honest. Also i would be more interested in their love story if it was more slow-burn.

I really one know what is going to happen so i would pick up volume 2 too.

I loved the troupes, art style, characters, and writing. This book was one that I had a hard time putting down. I like seeing characters who are out of the norm and this brought that with the female lead representing tom boys and the male lead representing androgynous men. I am looking forward to seeing how this story grows ion future books. Something I would love to see the author do is dive more into Nagi's backstory more. This part of the story felt a little rushed for an introductory book, but I look forward to reading more in future volumes.

OH my goodness. I loved everything about this manga. The art style is superb; it takes my breath away. There's such an attention to detail in the eyes, the faces, the clothes. It's all exceptional.

And the plot, while typical "I'm not beautiful / special", is done in such a lovely way. We get an MMC who doesn't care about gender stereotypes and it's so refreshing. I love that he's already getting jealous. I'm hoping this doesn't turn into a super long series because I feel like it's already ramping up pretty quickly. But as soon as I finished, I wanted the next one immediately!

Nagi is an uncertain tomboy who even brief touches from a male makes her skin crawl and goosebumps come out. She wants a boyfriend and wants to be normal with contact. In comes the androgynous model Aran who she first thought was a gorgeous female. They make an agreement that she will model with him for an event and he will be her temporary boyfriend. Then feelings start to happen.

This was such a fun read. I have been craving a good cute romance manga, and this fulfilled that craving. I am obsessed with Aran and Nagi I love them 🥹. This was taking me right back to middle school when I was obsessed with “The One” and “Ai Ore”. This is about a girl who struggles with any attention or physical touch by men. She happens to come into contact with one of her celebrity crushes and learns the shocking truth that she is actually a he. She realizes even though Aran is a man she isn’t repulsed by him and he can touch her without any reaction. They enter into an agreement to fake dates until she’s over her issues with men. Will it stay a fake relationship or become more 👀 read and see people read and see.
It’s very cute. I can’t recommend it enough. I’m excited to keep reading.

A very cliched romance manga. Nagi can’t deal with guys after she had one extremely dumb experience with a long-standing friend. She likes an androgynous model named Aran…who mostly isn’t that androgynous IMO. I’m not really sure why it’s rare to have models like this, but that’s the claim. She asks him to be her temporary bf so she can get used to men, which seems to mean fooling around but not having sex. Because she’s not easy and won’t have sex with someone she doesn’t love. I find this…dumb. He’s a playboy who sleeps around, but of course she’s different for him.🙄

The artwork is nice in a generic way. I don’t love the fashion choices. I do think the proportions of Aran are not great - he’s a runway model, but whenever he’s portrayed in full body he appears short because his legs and torso are fairly equal. Nagi doesn’t have this problem.

It’s not bad, but also not good.
