While this book was quite fast moving and definitely imaginative, I just found I couldn't really connect with the characters that well. I think this is because a great deal of the book is telling, and not showing. One of my favourite English teachers when I was in school loved telling us to "show not tell" and while I didn't understand what she meant then, I definitely do here. I would've been able to imagine the fight and action sequences much better, and feel more emotion toward the characters ...more

This is the latest edition of this book. I was able to change it after various rewrites to make the story more compelling and interesting. I also used various tools to make the story a "show not tell" novel.

I'm sorry, but I couldn't get through this. The storyline and writing style bored me, and the grammar often had issues which set off my grammar OCD. The characters didn't capture my attention and I couldn't force myself to get through this book.

Thank you to the author for the free copy anyway :)

I purchased this book from a fellow Goodreads member for review exchanges. My typical genre is fantasy, but I’ve read my share of dystopian.

In the beginning, Enoch was bullied by the typical jocks in the school and hated being in school. The story is told in the first person, so we really live inside Enoch’s head. Foreshadowing about aliens and their threat to take over Earth came through Enoch’s dreams. We’re taken on a strange journey of events to Washington DC and it’s as if rival gangs meet

Enoch and the stars above is an entertaining and well paced adventure. We're firmly in the science-fiction and fantasy genre as the story follows awkward teenager Enoch as the challenges of high school (girls and bullying) are eclipsed by an impending galactic disaster. I liked the use of exotic locations and action set-pieces but it was the well written characters that shone through for me, in particular Enochs burgeoning relationship with Danica. Highly recommended.

Enoch and the Stars Above is a very fast paced dystopian novel. I found the plot to be very interesting and the ecentric characters to be amusing. Mr. Paz's writing will draw you in to the story and it will not let you go untill you have read the last word. I would recomend this book to anyone who enjoys the sci-fi and dystopian genres.

I thought this was a really interesting book! Although I do read the sci-fi and fantasy genre very regularly, I don't usually pick up books with aliens and dragons - a mixture of sci-fi and fantasy! I wouldn't have imagined a book where both appear, but Rich Paz manages to blend these two genres together easily and with flair, so Enoch's story is quite captivating. Enoch an

To be honest, if you were to ask me what my favorite genre of book to read is, I would not raise my hand for dystopian. It is therefore no wonder that after reading the synopsis I hadn’t high hopes for the book but after only a few pages in I knew it was going to be my type of book. Rich Paz, the author of “Enoch and the Stars Above” has carefully crafted an incredible world from the edge of the universe that becomes more and more fascinating as you work your way through the story.

I'm honestly not sure how to write this review. Teenagers, partying, aliens, and eccentric adults...

The reader spends so much time in Enoch's head and it is a very busy place to be. So many thoughts and opinions fly through his mind every minute, I wonder how Enoch keeps track of them all.

Uriel, Danica, and Dante definitely have their own quirks as well, yet they seem more comfortable with who they are. Being around them brings Enoch out of his inner thoughts and makes him want to do something

I really really enjoyed reading Enoch and the stars above!!! A lot!!!

I loved the characters! I found each one fun! Especially Danica. I found that the characters were all well thought about well developed and each were interesting in their own way. The story line! Oh man the story line! It was great! I don’t want to give it all away but I really loved the theme of the story line! I really liked that it made me think a lot and it was taken out of the box in a way! And that is the one thing that a

I received a free copy of Enoch and the Stars Above in exchange for an honest review.

Enoch and the Stars Above is a first-person plot, written almost like an internal narrative from the perspective of teenager Enoch. Occasionally there were rhetorical questions (that often bordered on philosophical) asked that didn't ring true coming from a teenager, but this didn’t bother me too much in the grand scheme of things.

This was a struggle, but this was my fault as opposed to the book’s. There is defi

I received a free copy of this novel from the author in exchange for a positive review.

This story isn’t ready to be published. While the idea is there, it isn’t done right. There aren’t any spelling mistakes, and I didn’t find much wrong the grammar, so it has been edited for that. But the content needs a few more edits.

The book’s narrative is so stilted. ‘So and so has green eyes and brown hair. They wear pants and a t-shirt’; not an example from the novel, but pretty close. There is no style

I really like the idea behind this book-somewhat unpopular teenage boy is "chosen"as recipient of alien encounter in hopes that together they can protect Earth from destruction. Paz creatively presents how evil first arrived on our planet and how it has manifested over the centuries in different figureheads. Due to the severity/intensity of the situation, I was wanting to see the main character (Enoch) or his friends wrestle more with the doomsday possibility (internal struggle/conflict). When t ...more

This novel is imaginative, fast moving and sweeping. The book is written first person in the style of Catcher in the Rye (not that I'm comparing it to Catcher, would not be fair!). I'm not of a fan of first person narrative, but it does get you deep into the head of the main character. And I liked how deep the author dove into the main character's thoughts and emotions. The action comes often and was fun. I did find it difficult to become fully engaged with the writing because there is a good de ...more
