This book describes an approach to engineering education that integrates a comprehensive set of personal, interpersonal, and professional engineering skills with engineering disciplinary knowledge in order to prepare innovative and entrepreneurial engineers. The education of engineers is set in the context of engineering practice, that is, Conceiving, Designing, Implementing, and Operating (CDIO) through the entire lifecycle of engineering processes, products, and systems. The book is both a description of the development and implementation of the CDIO model and a guide to engineering programs worldwide that seek to improve the education of young engineers.

Khi GS Nghĩa ở Đại học Quốc gia tp. Hồ Chí Minh bày tỏ sự vui mừng như kiểu "tìm thấy đường cứu nước" khi vớ phải phương pháp luận CDIO, tôi vừa tò mò vừa phấn khích.
Phải khi đọc xong cuốn Rethinking Engineering Education (bản dịch tiếng Việt) này thì tôi mới ngớ người ra. Cảm giác y như "đã tìm đường cứu nước".
Tất cả những gì nhóm chúng tôi đang tìm kiếm về đổi mới giáo dục, về phương pháp học tập chủ động, về học thuyết kiến tạo, về project-based learning được gói vào một tầm nhìn có tính hệ thống cao độ mang tên sáng kiến CDIO. Thật rõ ràng hơn bao giờ hết.
Tôi nghĩ rằng tất cả những người làm giáo dục đại học ở các khối kĩ thuật cần phải đọc cuốn này. Nó sẽ thay đổi tầm nhìn một cách sâu sắc.
Nói như vậy không có nghĩa là những người không thuộc khối kĩ thuật không được lợi gì "nhỡ" có đọc cuốn này. Bởi CDIO đích thị là một sáng kiến dẫn đường!

The CDIO Approach is really a concise listing of everything I've always valued in my engineering education, along with a few things that I had always wished were there. This methodology puts emphasis on hands on learning along with personal and interpersonal skills in addition to disciplinary learning to produce industry-ready engineers.

There are multiple methods I will be using myself in my classes this school year, and I will be pressing the administration to adopt the CDIO Standards and maybe even join the Initiative. Excellent program, and most aspects can be applied to any subjects, not just engineering, to produce a well-rounded student.
