Chase the Chupacabra

Rate this book
On an adventure to Texas, the Monster Hunters learn that most Chupacabra sightings are thought to be coyotes with mange. Research shows them the damage these parasites can do to a coyote's coat. But is that the answer? When the team heads out one night to see for themselves, they get a surprise they never expected! Aligned to Common Core standards and correlated to state standards. Calico is an imprint of Magic Wagon, a division of ABDO.

This is a great title for ages 9-12 who are looking for short chapter books with limited characters and storylines. The relationship between the main character and his older brother is realistic and positive. I would highly recommend this title for both school and public libraries looking for more chapter books - especially for boys.

Ben is a cryptid hunter and his younger brother and his friends help. It's short and a fast read.
It might be a series boys enjoy. I had never heard of 'chupacabra', but when I book talked the series, a large number of students were able to tell me about them.

This title is one of the “Monster Hunters” series that follows a group of cryptid hunters around the country in search of mythic, legendary beasts that may or may not exist. Gabe Brown and friends Tyler and Sean accompany Gabe’s stepbrother Ben to Texas in search of the elusive Chupacabra. Ben is a cryptid hunter with his own program, Discover Cryptids, on the Internet. He wants video proof of the existence of the coyote-like beast that has been the source of folklore in Texas since 2004. What he and the younger boys discover is a real mystery and townspeople who will do anything to ensure the success of their Chupacabra Festival. The easy text is filled with useful information about Texas and the variations of the Chupacabra legend in other countries. Black and white illustrations keep the text interesting. It is a quick read that will appeal to young Texans and reluctant readers.
