The Shy Scarecrow would much rather stay inside than have to scare away crows. At first he is more afraid of the birds than they are of him! When the farmer finds his hat of tin cans and puts it on his head, the Shy Scarecrow prevails and scares away all the crows.
This simple rhyming book is good for toddler or preschool storytimes.

Rags is a shy scarecrow. He is afraid of the army of crows that surround him during his visits outside. Rags begs the crows to go away but they won't budge. The farmer senses Rags' and gives him a shiny new hat! The hat worked! The crows thought Rags was a monster! They did not bother him any longer! Rags was happy.
"The Shy Scarecrows," is a cute story about over coming fear. The book provides an excellent gateway from summer to fall. Every in our class may not celebrate Halloween. This book will allow them to experience the harvest without pressure to go trick-or-treating.
The book will make a great literacy lesson. Teachers could do a unit on adjectives. Students may sequence the lesson. In addition they may describe setting, characters, and mood. This book would be great to use to introduce rhyming. After reading the story we could write a rhyming story together to work on phonics. They could come up with the words that rhyme and I would put their story or poem somewhere in the class to be seen.

September 6, 2017Such a cute book! Childern will love this one because it teaches them how something can be different than what it really is. The scarecrow wasnt scary at all until the owner added a hat to him, then he was doing his job of scaring away the crows.
