A Row With Two Chairs: Creating a Life Worth Saving

Rate this book
Experience the messy and miraculous journey from addiction to redemption in this powerful Christian memoir.Living the life of a professional nightclub DJ was taking its toll; drugs, booze, and partying seemed like the only way to find happiness until a near-fatal overdose left Scott Mocha broken and lost. In desperation and out of options, he made a decision to “try” Christianity for 30 days. What happened next led him down a path he never could have imagined…

In this gripping memoir, he shares his vulnerable true story of hitting rock bottom and miraculously finding hope, healing, and purpose after a life-changing surrender to a faith-filled life. From reluctantly walking into a church to finding himself on the streets of Paris as a missionary and navigating the megachurches in Los Angeles, Mocha recounts with raw honesty and candid humor his struggles to accept the grace offered through Jesus and the power of surrender.

Page-turning, poignant, and ultimately triumphant, A Row with Two Chairs is an unforgettable story of a broken man’s radical transformation through God’s relentless love and grace. Mocha takes readers through awkward moments and self-effacing anecdotes of the powerful spiritual experiences and encounters with God that inspired him to keep pushing forward, even in his darkest moments, to a life that could be worthy of the second chance he was given. Boldly tackling addiction, dating, and the messy realities of faith as a new believer in a way few Christian books dare, this book offers a refreshingly authentic perspective on what is offered to us through faith and redemption.

No matter how far we have fallen, it’s never too late for God to step in, heal our past wounds, and rewrite our life stories into ones of faith, hope, and love that are showered with grace. Through Mocha’s authentic, no-holds-barred voice, you’ll discover that no matter how lost you feel, God is ready to meet you where you are and lead you to an extraordinary life.

A Row With Two Chairs: Creating a Life …
Scott Laurence Mocha

What an absolutely incredible book. God has mightily moved in Mr. Mocha's life and it shows. His life has not been easy, but it sure has been impactful. I love redemption stories. It's so hard to even express the awe and wonder of reading what has occurred in Mocha's life after giving God 30 days to show He was real, and wow did God ever show up.
I highly recommend this book. It would make for a wonderful study in a small group, and it most certainly will help others share their own stories.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and Netgalley.

Who loves hearing a person’s testimony? Me! I love hearing people’s stories and how God moves in their lives. This is the author’s story of how he met God during a drug binge. If you know anyone struggling with an addiction this would be a good easy book for them to read and relate to. The book follows his journey with finding God during that night and going to his nearest church and giving it a 30 day trial. Throughout the book he follows God’s directions for his life that at times finds him in another country. Good quick read.

A Row with Two Chairs, written by Scott Laurence Mocha, provides an honest and authentic narrative of the author’s life and the adventures that result in their decision to follow God’s direction. Throughout the book, the author does not hide from the negative thoughts, emotions, and challenges that are always present in life. This is especially true when navigating a new way of living, uprooting everything that is comfortable, and pushing through challenging and difficult circumstances, like the author does. Mocha’s narrative could be considered a ‘testimony,’ a personalized account of the changes and challenges of someone’s life in relation to their faith and pursuit of God. Traditionally, testimonies act as inspiration for other people in similar circumstances or facing similar difficulties. In this sense, the author’s story should act as inspiration not only for fellow Christians, but for anyone looking to break bad habits and searching for a new, more authentic way to live. The writing in this book is honest and heartfelt, and the author refuses to hide the challenges faced while making these changes. In terms of narrative techniques, the author does utilize foreshadowing repeatedly in order to keep the reader engaged. Not all of these instances are successful and some prove a bit clunky and ill placed. Regardless, the writing is overall clear and engaging. The reader is encouraged to engage in the author’s life story and assess whether the overarching theme has been satisfied. By the end of the book, we as readers are asked ‘what exactly is it that makes a life worth saving?’ This is the question the author hopes we can begin piecing an answer together for by the end of this book. For each reader, the answer may look different, but the adventure will be just as challenging.

I thank the author for this Christian memoir. We see a man who enters church
scarred covered, wanting to appear too tough that others would not approach him; transform to a man who opens himself up to be healed from the inside out and searches for ways to help others. The book covers 10 years of the author's life. After awakening from the overdose, the author path to being clean seemed almost like a linear process. I attempted to find some of the unreleased chapters on the website SCOTTMOCHA.COM, but was not able to find the chapters. The path to identifying where he fit in, his godly purpose and mission was certainly not linear. But the author was committed in always taking the next right step and moving forward and hearing from God. The author does not allow wrinkles in the road to become roadblocks (a paraphrase from the author🙂).

Through my personal connection with Scott and his family, I've had the privilege of gaining insight into the deep and caring nature he possesses toward himself, his family, and the people in his life. It's an honor to have gained an understanding of the struggles he has faced and to witness his journey from hardship to a life filled with faith and inspiration, which I find truly uplifting and beautiful.

A Row With Two Chairs

Scott has done a wonderful job of presenting his life from the time Jesus came into it to the time Jesus blessed him with a more complete restoration of what he had lost. Well-written and holds your interest until you finish. I gave it 5 stars for the excellent writing I'm as the hearts grabbing content.

A biography that was very well told and interesting. I thought the book would be more about his journey to find God but started out quickly with him turning his life over to God. There were many ups and downs while trying to find his purpose which mirrored real life. I appreciated that not everything he did worked out but were building blocks.
