Green Kitchen Travels: Healthy Vegetarian Food Inspired by Our Adventures

Rate this book
David, Luise and Elsa are a family who love to travel. Hungry to see and taste more of the world, they had embarked on an around-the-world trip by the time Elsa was just 7 months old. They slept on a friend's couch in Brooklyn, hunted for a vegetarian restaurant in Beijing, and were mesmerized by the street food in Vietnam. By the time David and Luise returned home, their daughter had learned to walk and their minds and bellies were full with food inspiration.

Take inspiration from their travels and start the day with indulgent almond pumpkin waffles from San Francisco, tuck into a raw beansprout pad thai from Thailand for lunch, and a Sri Lankan vegetable curry for supper. David and Luise have you spoilt for choice with desserts, featuring cheesecake, raw tiramisu and a sweet roti pancake. With easy to find ingredients and simple instructions, these recipes are sure to be a success.

With stunning photography and food styling, as well as personal anecdotes and images from the authors' travels, The Green Kitchen: Food From Our Travels shares modern and inspiring vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free recipes.

Great photos of food, sunny exotic places, tans and birkenstocks, great escapism for cold UK weather that shows no sign of spring. The food looked great too, but no recipes that made me want to try them. Plenty of vegan recipes. The ones I liked the look of were very involved, nearly all the ones I looked at had ingredients I don't think I could find in our nearest city, some ingredients I'd never heard of. Personally I like a few quick and easy recipes, I'm more likely to try an easy one and if that works well I might be tempted to invest more time trying a more involved one.

I got this from the library so may take it out again some time and try one. Lots of very summery food so perhaps this is the wrong time of year for this book.

Min Go-To kogebog!

I had a problem with this book - being a GKS for AGES I had high expectations. The photos were very good and most recipes sounded great too. We tried at least 15-20 of them and at least half didn't work out. I mean, they were tasty but there was always something wrong with the quantity, method, etc. so we had to make them twice to modify them a bit and enjoy the dishes properly. Surely there are some favourites we'll keep coming back to (see links below) and if that was a blog I would easily forgive that. However, I surely expect more from a book.

Recommended with modifications ;-)

Not only it’s packed with good, nourishing, vegetarian recipes, but they have included their photos from their travel too! I love the pictures (therefore 2 stars). The recipes not so much. They're much more of a hassle than described and not that tasty. I don't think the recipes were thoroughly tested, which really bugs me.

It's nice as a coffee table book though.

I am very much a fan of Green Kitchen. Their cookbooks definitely have a good mix of recipes, beautiful photography, and a human touch. Their books show the time they have spent working on it, pictures of the family enjoying the actual food they are talking about. It is generally just a good selection. They have good suggestions for how to make some of their recipes vegan if you lean that way but in general they just have a really delicious wholesome approach to food for the whole family.

Gorgeous book! The photos were stunning, and I loved reading their travel stories. I've tried 3 of their recipes so far...all delicious! I just wish there were some non-vegetarian options.

As usual with their cookbooks, a few of the recipes we made were delicious, and a few were puzzling and not very tasty.

Breathtaking pictures!! The recipes are interesting as well and there's a few I can't wait to try, but some are a little repetitive ( from other vegetarian cooking books I've read)

Stockholm, Brooklyn, San Francisco, San Diego, Beijing, Vietnam, Thailand, India, Marokko, Griekenland, Mexico …

This cookbook offers an excellent, refreshing take on vegetarian cuisine. Most of the recipes are very simple, and even though the recipes are diverse, they don't feature a lot of exotic (i.e. impossible to find) ingredients. There's a huge variety in the geographic inspiration for the recipes, but I'd say that most have a Mediterranean or East Asian origin.

As this is a travel cookbook, the photography in my opinion is far superior beyond what is found in most cookbooks. There's shots of the cities, or people that inspired the recipes, I also love the typeface and layout, and the matted page finish. I also love the blurbs in front of each recipe, which detail the inspiration - I felt transported into the authors' travels.

A worthy addition to my cookbook collection.

Even if I'm not a vegetarian I've got a idea about getting some more green food in to our life. This book is a good supplement to doing just that. It's got really beautiful pictures of the food, good tips for making the dishes and good travel tips as well.

If you're vegan or have a gluten allergy then this book also makes sure that you can make the recipes and enjoy the food from the book.

The food is really tasty and you can almost get hooked to continue trying all the recipes.

A very beautiful book with clear recipes, personal stories and some advice for travelling with a small child. All the recipes are vegetarian (as long as you choose veggie cheeses), many are vegan or have a vegan option, many are gluten free. I only wish they would have added some information about their travel photos, because now I have no idea where they were taken.

Really gorgeous cookbook filled with travel adventures. Perfect for a vegetarian traveler like me, with wonderful photos, interesting recipes. They are obsessed with being gluten-free, not a must for me at all, but many gorgeous photos, and I'm so envious of their lifestyle.

Nice plant based recipes with a spin. The book differes from the lifestyle cook-books out there, as the recipes don´t seem to be the usual ones fand in a million other ones. I also liked the structure and Fotos of the book.

An inspirational vegetarian cookbook where the Frenkiel/Vindahl family explore the world one bite and culinary fix a time, both abroad and at home as the spices and smells bring them back to where they first experienced a certain dish. A lovely mix between recipes, atmospheric photos and small stories.
