An Alternate World that Will Bend Your Mind

I'm not particularly a fan of YA fiction, and I usually trudge through them, but Vrinda Pendred's 'Mythos' (`The Descendants' Book 1) is totally different from any others I've read in this genre. The characters are deep, the descriptions are stunning, and (best of all) the plot genuinely intriguing.

In 'Mythos' we meet main characters Itzy, Seth, Oz, Aidan, )(along with many others) and witness their journey from the supposedly `normal' world into a ben

Incredibly original, Mythos by Vrinda Pendred, tells about the descendants of a group of aliens who came to earth and mated with humans hundreds of years ago. These descendants have passed as humans for years with no distinguishing features or marks but, for some unknown reason, the current teenage descendants have begun to possess unusual extraordinary powers. Each of them have their own unique ability but no one knows why and, when one of their fathers dies, a cryptic message is left, 'Don't l ...more

I was given this ebook as an ARR in order to give an unbiased review.

I found this book to be very interesting. It was very well written, and the storyline was great. The characters were good itzy was a likable girl with just enough mystery surrounding her to make you crave answers. Definitely looking forward to the next book in the series.

I liked this book a lot. First of all, most of the characters are all very vivid and unique, from their speaking patterns to their preferred ways of approaching problems. By the end of the novel, I had formed some pretty significant emotional attachments to some of them, even having a strong reaction to the quasi-romantic triangle (I’m Team Seth all the way). This is rather inevitable, given the book is much more about emotional journeys and character development than the bits of action dragging ...more

So here I am- sitting and after finishing six books in as many days and I still have another day or two to go on my trip back home I end up scrolling through my kindle and remember this one. So I open it up and I’m hooked. The first sentence is, “The grey-eyed boy flew down the M6 at unnatural speeds.” I mean, who can resist that? I know I can’t! So I read, and read, and read, until 5 hours later I am throwing my iPhone across the car in frustration because the book is missing and ending and I h ...more

This is definitely one of the more unique of the common themed science fiction books. A group of teenagers find out that they are descendants of an alien race. They found out that they have special powers. These teenagers are the first generation with the powers. Each Descendant's power is different, no two are even remotely similar.
The author is obviously British and written as such. So American re

Oddly, I ended up liking the characters more than the plot. I kept reading because I didn't want to say goodbye to Itzy and Seth and Oz (and I'm not leaving anyone out because of spoilers.. those are really the only ones I'm attached to).

I think this book may have suffered from set-up-opathy (yeah, made that up). As in, the author intends so much more of her writing time/space in the future for plot so she spent the time now

I got this book from the author, free of cost, in exchange of an honest review from my side!

firstly I would like to thank Vrinda Pendred, author of Mythos for giving me this wonderful opportunity of reading and reviewing this awesome book.

Where to start from? Well, this book is really awesome and I liked each element that the author introduced in this book from true friendship, essence of pure love, despair for the loss of loved ones and remembrance of family, betrayal, revelation of secrets, fi

In the spirit of full disclosure I received an e-copy of the book {through Lovers Of Paranormal} in exchange for an honest review.

At first I feared I would only be able to give this a 3 star rating because A: Most of the first five chapters is backstory. B: I didn't fully connect to the main character. C: it took until chapter seven for me to get hooked into the story. And D: Itzy {the main character} is a bit too tame for me and feels sorry for herself too often for my liking.

That said, the ori

When i picked up Mythos to read, i wasn’t in the mood for supernatural books- But this turned that frame of mind around! After reading so many supernatural books based on the same story lines and similar mythical creatures, this was a refreshing change! I have only read a few books based on Greek Mythology, but have always enjoyed them- Mythos was an exciting new twist on the mythology i have read before.

I'll start by saying that I read a lot of YA paranormal books and I read a lot of indie books. This novel was one of the better of each. The story was unique with its teenage alien plot and the book was well edited. In the total 300-something pages, I only found one misplaced comma and no typos. The characters are likeable and their emotions are believable, even the almost love at first sight between Itzy and Aidan. Their powers are distinctive compared to other YA paranormal novels. Wow! What an amazing story. It's so difficult to find Indie authors with unique ideas or at least a nice spin to an idea that is so well known.
I absolutely loved Itzy's confusion ,for it was so realistic and made her seem like an actual person rather than a one-dimensional character.
I don't know if this is a spoiler or not so just in case (view spoiler)

First I would like to thank the author,Vrinda Pendred, for the chance to read this book. It's not my usual type but I loved it!!

The book starts out with the death of Itzy's dad. Through this she is given a chance to connect with her half brother who she never knew. They soon learn they are Descendants and the adventure begins. I love the depth and variety in all the characters. The true friendships really pull yo

This book combines all of my favourite things- romance, fantasy and engaging characters. It's easy when a new series comes along to judge it by what's already out there. I can honestly say this is such a departure from the YA literature that's available at the moment. It touches on relationships, spirituality and mythology in such an interesting way that by the end of it you find yourself impatient for the next instalment. I was a big fan of Vrinda Pendred from her previous work 'The Ladder' and ...more

In comparison with other Young Adult Fantasy fiction out there this is a unique read. This is a sweet, multi-layered meaning novel with many themes: family, friendship, romance, the teenage years, domestic violence, family break up, death, destiny, prophecy, self-discovery, the meaning of life and of course, supernatural power! - and the list goes on. This is a startling début to a series that promises to only get better!

This book lays out the ground work for potential epicness (my own word hah

I enjoyed this. The storyline was good, although I did think the romance was a bit abrupt. The book just seemed to fly by- it would be even more amazing if it was longer. Ms Pendred did a really amazing job of adding so many layers- love, fmaily, friends, jealousy, family- all the different components just combined and flowed so well. I got really caught up in the story and characters, with some awesome character developemt going

I do not understand why this book has so many 5 or 4 stars. Maybe because it was free for those reviewers? And therefore it can be quite awkward to say to an author this book is less-than perfect?
I got my copy off Amazon and have no ‘mandatory’ loyalty. I do not give ‘fluff’ reviews either. So here it is, unless you have an extremely high tolerance for teenage romance dramas, filled with young adult paranormal stock characters skip this book. I wish that I had.

A copy of this book was provided by, We ❤YA Books, a Goodreads Group, in exchange for an honest review.

The Descendants, was a very original YA Fantasy Novel. The main characters are well written and multi layered. As with many series, the first book is all about explaining the premise of the series and introducing you to the characters. Just as the story got interesting, and the group of “talented friends” is on the cusp of discovering the "Wisdom", the book ends. Thankfully, there was no tragi

My WordsAfterwards:

This book is a slow starter and I got tripped up by the British English at points during the story. The "ye" and "like" usage in the book was somewhat of a mystery to me as a reader. Despite these two things I really enjoyed the story. By the end of the book I was totally engaged and wanted the second book. There was suspense, a love story, and paranormal aspects! Great first book of the series!

This is the first book I've read of Vrinda's and I'm beyond impressed by her writing! I'm not a huge fan of paranormal plots but this blew me away and I definitely can't wait for the second book in it's series. Her descriptions and way of setting the scene makes you feel like you are right there among the characters, which is the sign of a great writer. I love Vrinda's style of writing and can't wait to read more!

This book is fantastic! I loved the characters, they were fun, likeable, and well developed. This story reminded me of Casey Hayes' "The Cadence" because of it's carefully crafted writing. This book is another reason why I love goodreads and having a chance to read indie writers stories. Well done Vrinda Pendred!

Mythos is a very enjoyable easy read that I think YA readers will absolutely love. The characters are wonderful and the story line is very interesting and original. I found myself pulled into the story as Itzel found secrets about her life that she never could have imagined. I really liked this book and I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

This book surprised me! It started off a bit out there for me...I can't really explain why, but then I got caught up in Itzy, Oz, Seth and Devon's drama. It was well written and for once the characters were mature, but still young in their portrayals. Can't wait for the sequel!

I received an arc from the author in exchange for an honest review.

When I first read mythos, in my head I imagined the Greek gods. I didn't actually read the blurb. But it's more than that. It started at the civilization of Atlantis wherein aliens mated with humans and left which resulted to the descendants from these matings. Itzel came from a domestic abusive relationship from her father 7 years ago and recently she learned about his death. Upon attending her father's funeral she meets

I really enjoyed this story. To me it was original, I've never read another plot like it. It was written so that there's never any dull points. The whole story flowed really well.
Itzy was believable as a teen girl, one that I felt sympathetic for. Although I do feel bad for Seth I really like him but the heart wants what it wants.
I wish she had met Aiden earlier might have saved Seth some heartache, but that really wouldn't have worked for the story. Oz isn't really delved into much so I hope to
I received this as a free eBook for an honest opinion.

I totally loved it! The characters were believable and likeable - my favourite was Seth. The author created an intriguing and original plot that utilised historical phenomena to construct meaning.

My only problem was the format of the book, though that might just have been the ePub version; every two lines was made of one whole line and a third of one line, throughout the entire book. At first it made my reading feel jerky, but I guess I got

I have to say this was a very interesting book. I had very strong emotions while reading this book. I shared Itzy's emotions throughout the book. I loved how the book starts off with a bang and the surprises just continued. I loved almost all the characters in this book. However, I really disliked Melody. I couldn't stand her.
