When an reporter mistakes a hard-bodied military man for a crime source, she soon finds it’s just as much fun undressing her new bodyguard as it is uncovering her latest case…
I credit my interest in writing romance to my grandmother. She gave me my first Harlequin to read during the hot summer days I spent on my grandparent's acreage in rural Oklahoma.
Immediately I was hooked!!!
Over the years, I would pick up a pen and write down ideas, but it wasn't until I joined Romance Writers of America and then Oklahoma Romance Writers did I become serious. During that time, I completed eight novels.
The first two will never, ever see the light of day. In fact, I should probably destroy these so no one accidentally reads them! Around my third book, I joined a critique group and began to really study the craft of writing.
From there I entered entered several writing contests. In March 2003, one part of my writing dreams came true when I finaled in the Golden Heart. In late 2000, I learned I placed Honorable Mention in Harlequin's Blaze contest, and began corresponding with the editor who bought my first book. I also won a writing round robin on eHarlequin, which was loads of fun!
On December 18, 2003, I got "The Call" from Harlequin. Actually, my answering machine received the privilege. My seventh novel, Never Naughty Enough was published as a Harlequin Temptation Heat. My sixth novel, Share the Darkness, will be published in April of 2006
I make my home in Oklahoma (where many of my books are set) with my husband and two children. My hobbies include reading, water aerobics with my mother every morning and watching OU play ball. The least domestic thing I like to do is cook.
I met my then future husband as a freshman at the University of Oklahoma (Go Sooners!!), but we didn't marry until after I received my Master's from Missouri State (Yea Bears!). My husband hero often worked overtime so I could attend RWA's National Conferences. The most romantic thing he ever did was arrange for his parents to watch our children so he could drive me to Houston, Texas for the Emily Awards.

2 INVESTIGATIVE STARS
Ezra Washington is home on leave. All he wants to do is spend his three weeks alone in his friend's family cabin after receiving a Dear John letter from his fiancee, while in Afghanistan.
Juliet is a journalist for the local newspaper. Sick of doing fluff pieces, she stumbles across a more intriguing story. With the help of a young restaurant attendant, Ezra mistakes her for his blind day, on Valentines Day of all days, and Juliet mistakes him for her source for her story. Once the bullets start flying and being run of the road, they both realize they aren't who they thought they were.
But while the danger is real and mounting, Ezra and Juliet can't deny the sexual draw to each other.
I thought it was cute and sweet. As its a novella, there were jumps ahead to get the story moving. It was just okay, nothing special or different about it.
I have to confess Date on the Run didn't really do much for me. Juliet and Ezra were fairly likeable, but that was really it and I found myself simply going through the motions of reading to get to the end because I have yet to DNF a book.
When they did get it on it was reasonably passionate...until the word "bigness" was used and then all I could think was, is that really the best adjective the author could come up? But it was what got them to that point that I struggled with; I need a book to grab me in the first few pages, with a novella that's even more important and this just didn't do that. In fairness there was plenty detail as to their character traits and pasts and it did have some action - a blind date and attempts on the life our heroine - but whilst I like a good escape from reality read, this just seemed far fetched and I couldn't buy into it.
It just wasn't for me.

What an amazing novella! It is hard enough cramming character development into a novella, not to mention 3 life-or-death situations, an injury in the woods and the backstory to the attacks but the author managed all that and more.
Within the first few pages, I felt like I had really got to know Juliet and Ezra and learnt where they both were in their professional and personal lives.
The ending was perfect and mirrored Ezra's situation at the start and the relationship wasn't overly rushed (i.e. no engagement within a few days of first meeting).
Apart from the misuse of fiancé instead of fiancée, this book was perfection!
Juliet Martin is a reporter with the Port Calypso Daily. She's preparing to meet with a contact for a story that could launch her career. All she has to do is pin him down and get the info he has to crack her story wide open.
Ezra Washington is in the Air Force. He has just returned home from his deployment in Afghanistan to an empty life. After a disastrous previoius relationship, he's come home a single man. His best friend's sister, however, has a blind date planned for him. All he has to do is meet her at a local restaurant.
A case of mistaken identity on the parts of both Juliet and Ezra lead to unexpected romance and danger. It would appear that her career launching story just put a target on her back. Someone wants her dead ..... yesterday. A hot and steamy relationship develops all while Ezra attempts to keep Juliet out of harms way.
Date on the Run is a very short novella that fell pretty flat for me. The beginning was awesome - I love the premise of blind date/new story contact gone wrong. What followed, unfortunately, was a rushed story line that put both Juliet and Ezra in uncomfortable situations that just don't happen as quick as they did here. Her imminent danger just didn't play out in the book as well as it could have.
It wasn't all horrible. I did like the chemistry between Juliet and Ezra; it was believable. Even though it happened quickly, the sex scenes were written very well, too. Date on the Run would have been excellent if it was just a tad bit longer. The plot and storyline just needs a little more expansion.
Readers should be 18+.

I don't know what I just read, but what a disappointment this short story turned out to be.
I DNF at 40% because I couldn't continue reading any further...and that's saying something because this story is short! It only has 773 locations on my Kindle. With any other novella, I would have breezed through this short story in 30 minutes, but this one proved to be a struggle for me.
Several factors that contributed to this being a DNF were the characters & the plot. The characters weren't interesting and the plot was boring. Both needed a lot more fleshing out. I also personally found the writing style a bit awkward and not a good fit for me.
The beginning of the story sent out red flags for me as I had to really get myself interested and I just wasn't. Those first few pages are critical to captivating a reader's attention and this one simply didn't. Unfortunately, the story just went downhill from there and never picked up.
I gave this story a chance; I really did, but many factors made it unappealing to me so I had to DNF.

Date on the Run was a quick and fun novella with a really spunky (and a little mouthy) heroine - which I always love. A case of mistaken identity on a blind date and a confidential informant meeting leads to quite an interesting night on the town for Juliet and Ezra - neither of which is really looking for romance.
I was surprised at the amount of action Jill Monroe was able to squeeze into this 50ish page novella without over-doing it. There was a perfect mixture of action, romance, and a little humor for me.
The only reason it didn't get a full 5 rating was the first few pages were a little rough. The introduction to the characters wasn't nearly as good as the rest of the story. So don't give up in the first few pages don't pull you in - it is well worth continuing through to the end.

Juliet Martin plans to meet an informant for dinner. He's going to give her a scoop that will give her career a needed boost, but things don't go as planned. Her date is a disaster. Instead of the man she expects, she is paired with Ezra who is looking for his blind date. Neither suspects the mistake. Luckily they feel a strong attraction because as they leave the restaurant a car nearly runs them over. Now the fun begins. Someone wants to kill her and is trying really hard to do so. She's not sure if she'll be kissed or killed. This is a quick and entertaining story filled with equal parts romance and suspense. The feisty heroine and the take-charge hero are destined to be together. Their chemistry is hot and their dialogue is humorous. The bad guy may be inept but he is determined. In the end she gets her by-line, but will she get her man. I enjoyed this light-hearted tale of true love with a HEA. It was nice to take a break and read Date on the Run in one sitting.
This was an ok read. It was quick and light but I will say it felt very rushed at the end. This really is a story about a first meeting between two people and although we get to see their HEA that is where it gets really rushed and the author just basically tells us “and they all lived happily ever after”. I did really enjoy the characters. I genuinely liked Ezra and Juliet, and they had great chemistry. I enjoyed the action and Ezra’s alpha male instincts kicking in when Juliet was in danger. I thought this was a great start to a story, I would have loved a little more depth though, and a lot less rushing at the end. I really liked this little novella it had everything I want in a romance novella. It wasn’t perfect, it started well, ended well but had a slump in the middle. Despite that I still really enjoyed this it had a good story and the writing was well done but what made this book was the two likeable characters and the pretty awesome chemistry between them. Juliet and Ezra were both well-built and interesting characters but when they were together it was magic. This is a great little novella that I would recommend.
ARC given by netgalley for an honest review I do love this book. It is a quick read full of humour and romance. Not to be missed. It is really good. Hope to hear more from the author
I really enjoyed this novella. I love the addition of mystery in this short romance. This was something I didn't expect. Another great title from Indulgence and Jill Monroe.
