Are We Dead Yet?

Rate this book
It's been a year since the infection started. Ariel and her small group have been working their way up the Oregon coast line ever since. It was a fairly straight routine, scavenge, kill, and sleep. Until Finn shows up bringing along with him a whole new mess of problems, proving that zombies aren't always the worst thing out there and when you combine them with what is, you get a chaotic mess of death, betrayal, and hopelessness.

***Due to violence and mild language, this book is not recommended for readers under 15.

Born and raised in Eugene. I graduated from a local high school in 2011 and have been out of school since. My whole world revolves around my family, pets and art. For a long time I stuck to drawing and painting, but last year decided to try a new form of art, writing. Immediately, I fell in love with it.

Ariel was an okay character, but there was a few times where she annoyed me.

There was a few times in this where I felt bored, or thought the story was dragging a bit, but apart from that, it was an alright read.

I really like this story. Ariel is a strong kickass girl trying to survive the zombie apocalypse with her friends.
Her and her best friend Josie had gotten separated from her boyfriend Henry a yr before and while she has come to terms with his death she never gives up hope since she doesn't know for sure.
She runs into Finn while scavenging with Josie and they bring him back with them. He starts travelling with their group and it takes awhile for them to start trusting him as it seems he's hiding something.
To make things worse of course zombies aren't the only danger out there even if they are beginning to act weird. Humans are just as bad if not worse, as they have to defend themselves against a member of their own group and a certain gang that seems to have it out for them.
I really liked the realism of this story. There's terror and heartache and love. Hannah has a good writing style and is a great story teller. The only problem I had with it is that sometimes they seem to escape the zombies to easily. At one point even though they are literally surrounded and injured they walk out of the zombies and leave them behind.
It ends on a cliffhanger and I will be impatiently waiting for the next one.

I was given an ecopy by the author in exchange for a honest review. Thank you!

Hannah Trank's Are We Dead Yet is her debut novel. I love the play on the title with the child chant of "are we there yet". I read this book after telling Hannah I would read it for an honest review.

The novel although it started off slow really kept me intrigued. It is about a young woman named Ariel and people she meets who are fighting to stay alive in a zombie apocalypse. I loved the development of Ariel's character in this novel. She is tough and fighting for her life. If zombies were a reality, people trying to survive would be rough and tough. As a reader, you really feel her struggles and strengths throughout the story. There are times when she is cranky, rough and gritty. This really adds to her character and to the story. Although I'm not a fan of cliffhangers, I am really intrigued to know how the story continues. There is "something" suspicious about the zombies. This really hooks you in because it is different than other books with zombies. I can't wait to find out why they act differently. I also can't wait to see how Ariel & her friends endure the zombies and who survives.

There are some editing errors mostly in the beginning of the story. Although I know some people base ratings off such things, I did not. I think this story is worth the read and the author has great potential.

Y'all, I just cannot get enough zombie reads. I blame my obsession on Tracey Ward, and she's how I found out about Hannah Trank's Are We Dead Yet?. And wow! I adored this book. Trank's writing quickly put me in the mind of Tracey's Survival Series but she was able to put her own spin on things that made me so happy to have found yet another zombie author to count on!

Ariel was a character that I really enjoyed. From the very first moment that she was introduced, I knew I'd be rooting for her. She's a strong character and I love how the author writes her. There's hints of romance, and I like the way they are woven into the story. They never outshine the other parts; everything fits together in a realistic and intriguing way.

There is a cliffhanger and I gave my Kindle major side-eye whenever I got to it! But I'm already chomping at the bit for the next book in this series! Hannah Trank is a refreshing breath of fresh air and I cannot wait to see more from her. She has so much promise, and I cannot wait to continue this series. Fans of zombies will love this new edition to the genre!

First of all I love the cover is so freaking beautiful, even if I didn't love zombies I would buy this book just based on its cover.

Ariel used to have a sister and loving parents but now her life is a mess, a year ago she lost her boyfriend Henry. Their small group consisting out Kale leader in the group, Chloe the bitch and Jossie her best friend need a new place to live.

This new life consist out staying alive and fighting zombies.

One day Ariel and Jossie meet Finn, he is mysterious and handsome is an expert with a crossbow and arrows. He saves both girls and is happy to join their little gang.

Finn and Ariel have chemistry from the start even if the beginning Ariel only wants to strangle him.
Things get complicated when one off their own betrays them, when someone from the past shows up and when secrets come to the surface.

I enjoyed reading this book, the writer is a young author and this is her debut, keeping that in mind I think she does has some major potential and with some more time she will become a fabulous writer.

Looks pretty good so far. A new take on zombies and I'm looking forward to the next in the series. There is an issue with grammar that should be looked at though, which is why I gave this a 4.
