Zane the owner of the Scarlet Fang is a centuries old vampire. When auditioning for a singer in walks Vanessa. He feels the pull immediately and tries not to act on it and not let fate have it's way. But he offers her position and she draws the crowds in with her voice. He realises she is something more than human and sends her along to be outfitted for dresses where she can be assessed by Larissa, where she is informed of her true lineage.
Zane tries to stay away but the pull is too strong and eventually they give into their desire. Zane feels a lot calmer now that he has claimed her as it gives Vanessa his protection. But someone from his past is out for revenge and Vanessa is his prey.
Can Zane truly keep Vanessa safe? Will she truly give herself over to Zane and walk in the shadows with him? Or will a legend come to pass for Zane and Vanessa?
Really enjoyed this book. The love story that started centuries ago now comes to pass when it was initially denied. It's well written, reads very smoothly, characters are well rounded.

Odd Combination of Parts
This somewhat peculiar story takes place in modern-day New Orleans, but the hero is a centuries-old vampire. The heroine isn't quite what she seems at first. They have a deeper connection than she realizes. What makes the story odd is that it has two parts that aren't woven together as well as they could have been. One part of the story is the romance, of course, but that took a back seat later in the story when it suddenly morphed into something different that wasn't adequately foreshadowed. I won't go into the details, but as a reader/listener it just didn't sit right with me and wasn't satisfying. I wasn't wild about the narrator of this story, either. She took odd pauses, mispronounced words, and corrected speaking errors “on tape” without going back and fixing the audio track to remove the error.
I received a promo code for this audiobook, but that did not affect my review.

I enjoyed this book. I liked that this second chance romance isn't because the couple parted somehow, yet reconnect and try again later. In 1887, Zane knew Vanessa was his fated one, but her father disapproved and sent her away to be married to someone else, where she lived a full life and eventually died. Now, vampire Zane hires Vanessa after she auditions to sing at his nightclub. He recognizes his lost love in her, but senses something more. She is equally drawn to him and is unaware of supernatural beings.
I listened to this audiobook narrated by Megan Reedy. I love the different accents she uses for different characters. I prefer a male narrator for the male roles as I find it harder for a female narrator to convincingly pull off a male character, but I liked her accents enough that I quickly got over it. lol

KC Wild creates an engaging atmosphere with Zane’s dark intensity and Vanessa’s charm. The story shifts between past and present, showcasing Zane’s enduring love and hope for a second chance. While the Louisiana setting adds intrigue, the overall execution didn’t fully capture my interest. A solid read, but it left me wanting more.
Meagan Reedy brings a unique vibe to the characters, and I appreciate her emotional delivery. However, her voice didn’t resonate with me and felt too soft for the story’s intensity. It’s all about personal taste!
Would I Recommend This Book? Meh, the story was okay and if you like vampire romance with parts of present day and past then yes.

The vampires in this world are a little different than in other worlds I have read before. I liked this about the book.
Vanessa is drawn to Zane, pretty much like a moth to a flame. Zane is powerless as well to his attraction to her. She learns that paranormal beings exist in her world and she doesn't know what to think. Will she accept this new reality and want a future with Zane? Or will she run away in fear? She has some surprises tucked under her sleeve as well.
This book was a little darker than other books I have read by this author, not bad, I just wanted to give a heads up to other readers.

Loved this story!
I was pulled into the story from the very beginning. Then again, what’s not to love? Having read Anne Rice and her Vampire Lestat when the stories first came out, this story, also set in New Orleans, was a walk down Memory Lane. The thought of a love which began in 1887 and was unrequited and then surfacing again in the present day is so touching and beautiful. This is very well written, the story flows and the ending is very satisfying. I highly recommend this story.

OMG this was amazing story. I was on the edge of my seat and I couldn't even put it down. Zane the owner of the Scarlet Fang a night club for vampires. So when meet her in his vampire club that was fulled of vampires she was sexy and beautiful human women as he was with her as it was a mind blowing love affair. Could she be the one or will his old lover prevent him for happiness and romance.

This was a relatively short read but what a corker.
I was immediately drawn into the story and really didn't want to stop reading until I was finished.
The world building is fantastic and I love the 2 main characters.
I can highly recommend this fantastic book. Please give it a go you won't regret it.

A sweet story.
I really enjoyed this book. Zane and Vanessa are so sweet together. I loved the life long eternal bond they had and how deeply they cared for each other. It was a quick story, and that can be really nice at times, especially after finishing a 5 book series. It also has a great ending.

This is a paranormal romance. The vampires are a bit different than classically portrayed. I loved it!

This was a fun quick read. Zane is a centuries old vampire living in New Orleans. While auditiong singers for his club, he meets Vanessa. Is she his long lost love or someone else? A beautiful story of finding ones self and overcoming hurdles for love.

Zane hears a singer, Vanessa, who looks like his lost love. Zane owns a nightclub where Vanessa gets a job. Zane is drawn to her, but he is an ancient vampire, and Vanessa knows nothing about the paranormal, but a lot of people are interested in her. It seems Vanessa's background, while unknown to her, is "felt" by others. Can Zane protect her? Can she learn about her background and how to protect herself?
I enjoyed this story. I liked that Zane tried to stay away from Vanessa so as not to pull her into his world. Fortunately, Vanessa does not allow him to stray from her. I liked that she knew Zane knew about her background and was persistent to get him for more than her background story. I also liked that others in the neighborhood could help her in her quest to find answers.
I hope there are more stories in this world.
