Truly an epic and riveting start to the WARS OF THE REALM series by Chuck Black! Wow. Cloak of Light was adventurous, exciting, and seriously thought-provoking. I can't believe I waited so long to read this book; it is for sure one that I recommend! It was powerful, and kept me turning pages.

This book is of the speculative-fiction genre. It has a modern day setting and follows a young man named Drew Carter who loves football, cars, and working out. But then there's the fantasy twist, which invol

Brilliant. Literary genius at it's best - Chuck Black has come up with a plot so intricate and well thought out, and yet it directly concerns what's going on right now in our society regarding good and evil - we should all be aware of this stuff! Chuck Black has such a way of describing things- specifically fight sequences (which this book is full of!) -that is really easy to follow and creates an accurate mental picture; unlike so many suspense novels where I get totally confused trying to foll ...more

My Comments
I’ve never read this author before, but when I heard about this book, even without a summary available I knew I wanted to review it. Then I found out that it was about a young man who could see into another dimension and has skills beyond normal human beings. I really thought of authors like Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker who have written supernatural stories and speculative fiction and figured this story might be similar to their writing styles. I was very wrong. I’ve never read a book

I fully admit that I wasn't really interested in this book from the description on the back; the reason I picked this book up for review is because I'm familiar with Chuck Black's other series and enjoyed them, so I decided I'd try his newest books.

I’m not usually a big fan of speculative/supernatural fiction because a lot of it is, well, speculation, and sometimes the theology tends to get a little strange. However, I did like Cloak of Light much more than I was expecting to; unlike most of the

To be honest, when I requested this book I was not sure I'd love it, much less like it. I'll also admit that the only reason I even thought to request it was because I'd read the author's Kingdom series previously and loved them; but it was only the author that drew my attention-not the book synopsis. In fact from the book's description, it looked like a book I wouldn't read since I don't often venture into the world of science fiction, mainly because it's so unrealistic and often a bit too eeri ...more

It seems like life is destined to be hard for Drew Carter. Tragedy just seems to follow him. This is the first book I read by Chuck Black. It was shortly after I started to read that I found out he’s better known for his ‘Kingdom’ series. I was drawn to the story for its speculative attributes and it didn’t disappoint me, I really liked it.

When I started to read though, I must admit I dropped the book several times. The introduction of Drew and the rest of the characters was a little bit slow and didn’t catch my attention but at the end I must admit it

Wow! I absolutely loved this novel despite that it gave me the chills at times! However the message about spiritual warfare that Chuck Black delivers is well worth it!

The overall plot of the story is an interesting and unique one! It was fascinating how Drew came about seeing into the spiritual realm and how his past affected his view of it! There were a few times though that I did chuckle because of Drew's ignorance concerning his own ideas and beliefs. As a Christian I know what is written in

One of my favorite scenarios to read about in Christian fiction is Spiritual Warfare. Maybe it comes from reading This Present Darkness by Frank Peretti when I was first introduced to Christian Fiction many years ago. Anyway, if a book description mentions it, I will get it to give it a try. That is what drew me to this book. I've never previously read any of the author's other writings so was not at all familiar with his style.

Drew Carter is a college student and has a very good friend that is

Just needed to write a review on this. A friend told me to read it and to tell you the truth I wasn't exited to read it after she told me it was a Christian book. But this is literally the best Christian book I've read( even chasing hope Paula) it is the perfect combination of mystery thriller, action, contemporary, and Christian. RECOMMEND TO ALL MY FRIENDS

"What do you mean?"

That was awesome! Chuck Black took our understanding of spiritual warfare to a whole new level in this epic story! The characters were precious, and the story was enthralling. His writing style was unlike any I've seen before but such a pleasure to read!

I've always considered myself a good predictor of what will happen next in books, but not this one. I don't know how, but Chuck Black had me completely clueless the whole time! And that ending! O.O You couldn't have pried the book out of my hands

This turned out to be pretty good. It starts out with Drew's father's funeral at age 12. It seemed like a really overdone plot for quite a while: Drew finds football, excels, has a horrible traffic accident, and can't play any more {that's when I started to get interested}. He's got a geek friend, genius, who's into aliens. O shucks, do we have to go here too? Then there's the wild lab experiment that goes wrong and suddenly Drew can see aliens. This was getting to be a bit much. But Mr. Black h ...more

Sydney Carlyle, a mysterious and elusive girl offers encouragement through her faith, but Drew is too logical and scientific to believe that her prayer of healing was anything but coincidental in the restoration of his eyesight. As his sight returns, he discovers that the accident has heightened his neuron activity, giving him skills and sight beyond the normal man. When he begins to see fierce invaders that n

This was the first book I ever read by Chuck Black and it was an amazing book. Normally I do not go for books with a deep mystical element, but this book was fantastic. I loved the charterer development of Drew. Drew is a young man who has seen more than his share of tragedy in his life.In fact his life is consumed with one tragedy after another almost. As a result and influenced by his best friend, Ben, he turns to science for all of life’s explanations, and in doing so he adamantly turns away ...more

Drew is strong, courageous and talented. His life is changed by the side effects of a physics lab explosion. Drew can see invaders, both good and bad, all around him. These invaders change lives and Drew feels compelled to intervene on behalf of the innocent people who might be hurt by the dark invaders.

Cloak of the Light is a good book, and I enjoyed reading it. It is very much written with a young-adult audience in mind. The story was a bit slow in parts, but not to the extent that I wanted to

Cloak of the Light by Chuck Black was amazing. Seriously...when does the movie come out?!? Now, I'm not saying there will or will not be a movie but this one would be awesome!
The story involved a boy named Drew and his friend, Ben. They conduct a science experiment that leaves them in danger and with new abilities. They must fight to survive and help the ones around them. The things they know seem a bit far fetched for the more realistic world and it seems impossible to repeat the process to ob

I got the chance to read Clock of the Light by Chuck Black before it hits the shelves on March 18th. I have never read a Chuck Black before and I must said I will be looking into his other works. He is a great writer.
I had trouble getting past the first words of the story but I'm glad I did. " His dad was gone. Forever" and all too well I know the pain and heartache that you Drew was feeling and going thru. When we meet Drew he is twelve years old, going thru what no child should feel. But soon

This was a good one. Drew lost his dad at a young age. His dad's friend steps up and helps Drew and his mother in any way he can, including being a mentor to Drew. Once Drew excels at a sport, tragedy strikes again and he is forced to move past it to continue with his life. Once he makes it through to college with his best friend and the 'elusive' girl from high school both there with him, everything changes. He sees things no one else can and he must find his best friend and figure out exactly ...more

Well, this is a book I never would have picked up on my own. I’ll admit right off the bat; I AM NOT THE INTENDED AUDIENCE OF THIS BOOK. This was sent to me for a review and I missed that it was from a Christian publisher.

This was one of the better written YA books I’ve read recently, although I’d argue that it belongs more in the New Adult realm rather than YA as it deals extensively with college life and beyond. I was sucked in almost immediately and greatly enjoyed the story…right up until it

I love Chuck Black, I have read his Kingdom Series and the Knights of Arrethterae series a hundred times. I was so excited when he came out with Cloak of the Light. I was surprised though that he took such a different turn from his other books which are all about Knights and swords and epic battles between two opposing forces to write a si-Fi modern day suspense novel. But after reading it I realized it was not that big of a leap. I can honestly say that I loved this book! It had just the right ...more
