In a distant galaxy lies the enchanting world of Gardoon, a land where humans once lived in harmony with magic and colossal beasts. For centuries, the balance of this realm remained unbroken, its people thriving under the watchful presence of these ancient creatures, until one day in the battle between good and evil an invisible wall was erected to safeguard a mysterious artefact and the people of Gardoon.

All was well for years until the peace was shattered when the residents of Gardoon began behaving strangely. Ethan, a curious young boy, couldn't ignore the eerie shift. The townsfolk were no longer the same, and even the animals seemed unsettled. Together with his fearless friend Lily, Ethan embarks on a quest to uncover the truth behind the bizarre events plaguing their homeland. As they dig deeper, they stumble upon forgotten legends and secrets long buried beneath Gardoon’s surface. Each step brings them closer to a hidden truth, one that shakes the very foundation of their world.

'Call Of Dream' is a young adult, fantasy set in a mythical world. The book revolves around a bunch of kids who tries to uncover the mysteries of their land and it takes a dangerous turn when they come face to face with a powerful, ancient beast that holds the key to Gardoon’s unraveling. I started reading the book with much hope and expectations that this might be the next young adult fantasy I was looking for. Although I'm not particularly let down but it could have been bettered. The concept behind the storyline is good but lacks proper execution. We get to see some character arcs but again they are not fully developed.

Coming to the writing, the writing has been kept very simple here. The narrative is pacey so anyone looking for a fast action packed ya fantasy, this book may work for them. For me, I like my fantasy reads to be more engaging and slow burn that allows time to fully develop the characters and their journeys. While the brisk pace keeps the momentum going, I felt it left little room for deeper exploration of the themes or emotional nuances, which I tend to appreciate in fantasy stories. This is the first book in the series, so there's enough room for character and plot development.

✦ “CALL OF DREAM: THE SWORDS AND BEASTS OF GARDOON” - What is this book about? A fantasy? A puzzle? Or what? Oh, then yes. This book is called a SCORPION TALE and this is the book one of CHRONICLES OF GADROON. 🥀

✦ Let's start with the cover. Yes, the cover is absolutely engaging, giving a fiery sensation. And the plus point is - the map! I don't know about others but I love those books which have maps! To see the maps and flip the pages and you just love that you see them. You've that map on your book! Like you're solving this yourself. 🌤️

✦ The first page of this book has descriptions about humans and the minds and creativity. It makes me realize that it almost makes me remember about DR.FAUSTUS. “𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝; 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐢𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐟𝐢𝐠𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐮𝐭.” Here, Gardoon gave rise to humans and this is the home of colossal creatures. 🌻

✦ Basically this story starts with Ethan and his dreamy girl Lily. The beginning of this book is fascinating. Yes, you're drawn to page after page. But somehow I felt something was missing in this journey. But what, I can't explain at all. I felt bad to know about Ethan's missing sister. I was happy when she came into his life again. But the story was so fast paced. As a reader I'm a slow reader but I don't know why I felt something was misplaced. 🍂

✦ When Ethan was confused and trying to justify why all this is happening I think of it as ALICE IN THE WONDERLAND” era. Everything was a mystery form starting at the page of 100. But after that the author slowly starts to discloses the mysteries. With mysterious phenomenons, I can give this title an average rate. 🦋

✦ The book is swift and smooth in writing with variant characters. They're easily acceptable. The mystery, Mandrook, rich descriptions that create an aura of a fictional journey for its readers is appreciable. 💗

Picture this: you wake up after a nightmare, only to see your parents and everyone around you walking in a trance, arms raised as if controlled by something unseen. Strange things start happening, and you begin to wonder if you’re losing your mind. Then, out of nowhere, you discover your sister—who you believed was dead. Welcome to the Mandrook, an isolated town encased by an invisible wall.  Ethan, along with his friend Lily, finds himself caught in this bizarre reality.

Gardoon, a land of enchantment where ancient artifacts and colossal beasts hold the key to long-buried secrets. Ethan and Lily are thrust into a series of bizarre events, eerily similar to stories from old books they've read. As they delve deeper into these strange occurrences, they begin to understand the truth about their town’s forgotten magic and history. But why is all of this happening? And why are they the only ones who seem to notice, while everyone else acts irrationally? Uncover the mysteries in this captivating adventure.

The narrative hooks you from the start, beginning with Ethan’s crush on Lily, and quickly unraveling into a series of magical twists set in the richly detailed world of Mandrook. The vivid world-building adds a lot of depth to the story. I found the first half quite enjoyable, but as the plot progressed, it started to feel a bit confusing and dragged out. Perhaps it’s just my lack of connection with fantasy, but if you enjoy complex magical realms and intriguing storylines, this book is definitely worth a read!

A very very mixed review, because there are things I liked about this book, but the things I didn't like somehow stood stronger.

This book is a fantasy attempted in an imaginary world that is, at the roots, much like ours. The mortals are like us, and the environment not any different. The society, systems, and people are the same.

Four young chosen heroes realise their towns are in danger, and everyone except themselves are exempt from the trance that has gripped the people. Slowly, they discover their powers, the extent of their abilities, and fight the darkness threatening their fellow townsfolk. On the way, they understand magic, as well as each other.

There are some very sweet and emotional moments in the story, showing how these four brave heroes are after all human, with the same ups and downs we all face. These moments were refreshing.

In any fantasy, world-building is essential. And this book gets it somewhat right. The concept is interesting, having the scope to become something deep and fulfilling. The creatures inhabiting this world are also interesting, adding to the fantastical element. But the opportunity that is offered in the idea was never really fully explored in the book. To me, the cause seemed to be language.

The language is where the book falters, and it does so on many levels. The copyediting hasn't been done right, so there are places where spellings, pronouns, and sentence structures have quite some mistakes. The narration is disjunctured, either dwelling too long on something or completely jumping to something else. This also echoes in the dialogues, where sometimes wholly unnecessary lines are spoken, and where two subsequent lines have little connection. There is even extensive use of social media language, which I think is a serious problem in many modern fiction. There is a need to separate internet lingo from formal grammar, and that line doesn't exist in this book.

Then comes the language of fantasy, where imagined names and linguistic systems dominate the narrative. This book has no stable linguistic system (which in fact is joked about in the story itself). The etymologies make no sense, and there is no clear inspiration behind the namings. This was a bit jarring as a reader. Fantasies usually turn to existing languages and words that resemble existing terms. This book has no such system.

There are parts of the book that articulate the story perfectly. Then there are parts that could have been expanded. And then there are parts that are stretched without reason. In storytelling, "show-not-tell" is vital. This story shows very little and tells too much.

To me the four heroes were less like college students are more like schoolkids. Ethan, the lead, is immature and acts like a 14-year old. His lost sister gets called by two names in the same conversation or description, even though who she is has been established. Marcus too feels like an incomplete character. The only one that works is Lily. She is steadfast, empowered, and fierce.

I did enjoy the climax where the four heroes transform into four different creatures. The description was cool, and really felt like a sight worth witnessing.

The choice of animals at times were weird. There is an instance where (no spoilers), the last words a character hears are "DIE NO SOR". Later he realises it was about his son, who is a literal dinosaur???? This one truly stuck with me because even as a fantasy, the suspension of disbelief failed here.

Overall, the story is inviting. The blurb was after all the reason I picked this book. But fantasy isn't an easy genre. It takes a blend of academic rigour and active imagination to even mildly work. It was apparent that such a balanced approach was absent. Well, there's always a risk assumed in reading any book, and this time it just didn't work out for me. It did work out for many of my fellow readers, and I think that is how books always are: just a little personal, a friend to some and a stranger to others.

-An odyssey Into the Unknown-
Review of ‘Call of Dream- The swords and beasts of Gardoon'
🖋️📖

Fantasy has always been my go-to genre. The infinite possibilities it provides of speculation make for an engrossing reading and there is nothing better than learning about a magical world full of interesting characters and abrupt twists. I have so many favorite genres but fantasy remains my first love.

Set on the planet Gardoon, in a distant galaxy of Kan, Call of Dream is a story of Ethan and his adventures. Gardoon used to be home to colossal magical beings who ruled until the time of emergence of humans with sixth sense. Gardoon was attacked by a mysterious darkness. Devarnams faught it but it turned out that one of them had invited it. Thiarral ultimately makes an invisible wall around Mandrook to protect an artifact from darkness.

The author exerts a tight control on the elements of the story, balancing pace with the emotions, walking a tight rope of keeping reader's interest in the story while helping the main character evolve at a comfortable pace. His most well-written characters are Ethan and Lily.

It is the protagonist and his decisions that propel the story forward, keeping it on the track. The writer keeps it interesting with the entry of various other characters that keep on introducing new twists to the story. One of my favorite elements of thr story where the people sleep walk with their hands raised.

🔮 Call of Dream- The Swords and Beasts of Gardoon is a fictional story that takes you to the world of Gardoon which is a mysterious place in the town of Mandrook, surrounded by an invisible wall that protects it from the outer world. An engaging mystery packed with exciting puzzles and mystifying events that keeps readers hooked and guessing about what’s gonna happen next.
🔮 For a fictional story, it is way too much important to establish the scenes and I must give a thumbs up to the author for all the details and explanations that makes it engaging and clears all the confusions. Also, the volumes have been divided into sections so that it gives a necessary break to give a balance read.

🔮 The story is indeed intriguing and engaging since the characters are drawn very well. Ethan, the protagonist, who is preoccupied with love and the natural environment, finds himself uncovering the unknown history of the town as well as its peculiar relationship to the larger world of Gardoon.
Undoubtedly, the author has skillfully combined elements of suspense, magic, and a voyage of self-discovery.

🔮 I recommend this to all the mystery lovers and naturalists, you are surely going to love it. Also, beginners who want to give a try to imaginations; it’s a healthy read indeed.

CALL OF DREAM is a book with a lot of magical artifacts and colossal beasts that exist together in the enchanting world of Gardoon. It is in the isolated town of Mandrook which is surrounded by an invisible wall that protects it and no one knows about the inhabitants. The story moves forward and unconsciously the people start to walk with their hands raised. Nobody knows anything about the magical wall and there walk.

"... all you have to do is believe and put your brain to better use. That is something we cannot enforce within you. Listen to your heart and soul. Believe in yourself give everything you have and never give up". The beautiful message given to Ethan by Margoor form the main crux of the story. Ethan believes that he is the only same person in the town but is highly mistaken. The story unfolds and most of the characters find themselves to be in a web of uncertainty. That is when the main part coms to action with the towns history and the magical element.

All the characters play a crucial role in the story by speaking remarkable dialogues. The narration is slow and descriptive. The characters of full of life and interesting. If you are someone who wants to read magical stories with buried secrets then this is definitely for you.

Step into the enchanting world of Gardoon, where magical artifacts and colossal beasts coexist. In the isolated town of Mandrook, protected by a magical wall, a strange phenomenon grips the people – they begin walking unconsciously with their hands raised. As Ethan, the protagonist, grapples with these mysteries, he discovers secrets hidden beneath the town’s surface.

The book creates a richly imaginative world with a fascinating plot. I loved the detailed world-building and the magical atmosphere of Mandrook. The central mystery kept me curious, especially as Ethan tried to understand the strange happenings. However, while the first half was engaging, the second half felt rushed, making it hard to fully grasp the story's depth. Ethan’s character development was good, but other characters lacked depth.

Although the narrative was smooth, I felt that some parts of the story could have been explored more. The book had great potential, but it left me with some unanswered questions.

"Call of Dream: The Swords and Beasts of Gardoon" offers an interesting magical adventure. With more depth and pacing, it could have been much better. It's a decent read for fantasy lovers.

This novel is a richly imagined fantasy world. The story is set in the isolated town of Mandrook, which is shielded by a mysterious barrier that adds to its sense of isolation and intrigue. Something very odd happened in the town and it baffled its residents, who begin to walk around with their hands raised; a behavior that sets the stage for the book’s eerie atmosphere.

The protagonist of the story is Ethan, whose previously stable life becomes increasingly chaotic due to such bizarre events.

✨The narrative blends the ordinary with the magical and reveals a world filled with majestic beasts, hidden histories and mysterious powers.

✨The novel excels in its world-building, creating a vivid backdrop for the unfolding mystery.

✨ Arising questions and unexpected plot twists kept me engaged as the story followed Ethan's journey to unravel the secrets of Mandrook.

With its compelling mix of mystery and fantasy the book offers an intriguing adventure through the mystical realm of Gardoon. The book cover is remarkable.

Call of dream is a fantasy book which has magical realism to it with a bit of mystery

The story takes place in the town of Mandrook. This town is full of mysteries. Ethan is the main protagonist and he is in awe of lily. He has great interest in her and the nature…Something happens to this town and as a result people of this town unconsciously walks with their hands raised up.

Due to all this happening in the town Ethan and everyone else gets confused and stressed about it. There is also a character who is Ethan’s missing sister. What he does in this story and town is what is there in the 2nd half of the book mostly.

Story built up is great in the start but slowly it feels to just getting a bit stretched…the cover is beautiful and for those who loves map you will find one in this book too..

Adventure, magic, fantasy, love ....

An action packed fantasy read about events that unfold in the town of Mandrook in the world of Gardoon and its magical wall various mysteries leading to Ethan discovering stranger things that has been going on.

This is an engaging read especially with the narration built around the weird things happening. But the characters introduction and their descriptions are vague which keeps the story unhinged. No doubt language is simple and understandable but the narration could have been more gripping.

With the complex narratives all along the story line seems to have lost its track, yet interesting to read.
