Cash Brothers #5
True Blue Cowboy
He Never Expected To See Her Again!
When Mack Cash's mysterious one-night stand shows up at the dude ranch where he works, he is stunned. And just as he suspected during their night together, Beth Richards is no buckle bunny, despite the getup she was wearing. Instead, she's just the kind of woman he's looking for—sexy, sure, but also down-home and whip-smart.
Mack's obvious attraction is just the boost Beth was looking for after a hurtful divorce. She loves the way he looks at her—and sees her. Except for one thing. He wants a family, and Beth can only disappoint him. She's already failed at love once and she can't go through it again. That's why she has to let Mack go….

Beth woke cocooned in Mack's warmth, their bodies entwined on the mattress. The clock on the nightstand read 3:30 a.m. She closed her eyes and listened to his breathing. His steady heartbeat beneath her ear almost made her believe last night was the beginning of forever with him.
Good Lord, what had she done?
Flashbacks of their lovemaking - his tenderness and her boldness - filled her head, and her heart beat faster until she worried she'd suffer an anxiety attack. What kind of game was she playing? Brad had landed a blow that had sent her to her knees when he'd admitted he'd only married her to further his career. How was the way she carried on with Mack much different?
A lump formed in her throat. Mack made her feel alive. He made her feel worthy. Desirable. His attraction to her had restored her self-confidence. In his arms she could almost believe he was her soul mate.
She lifted herself off him and studied his handsome face relaxed in sleep. When she stroked the prickly stubble along his jaw, her heart filled with tenderness. She couldn't remember feeling this way about Brad.
Give Mack a chance.
Everything inside Beth yearned to allow Mack closer. To trust him. To believe he wouldn't abandon her when he found out she couldn't have children. Making love with him had only confirmed her worst fear - she'd never survive losing him if she gave him her heart. Then down the road he decided he wanted the family that she couldn't give him. pg. 115
As soon as Beth's divorce is finalized she gets her nails done, her hair did, she gets on a fancy outfit and some makeup and she goes out to get laid. She's very sad. Her husband cheated on her and impregnated HER BOSS. She lost her husband and her job and her house. She decides she is going to have a one-night stand.
She deliberately goes for the hot singer in the band Cowboy Rebels. His name is Merle Haggard Cash but he goes by 'Mack.' She's very lucky. One, that she can pull the exact guy she wants to pull. Two, that he's not an asshole, he's a good man. IRL he would be an asshole and she'd regret the ONS for the rest of her life. Three, he's ostensibly good in bed. IRL he would be shit in bed and she'd be very disappointed.
But this is a romance novel!
She makes sure to be gone before he wakes up in the morning. Even though she refused to give him her last name or phone number, he's curious about her and would like to keep seeing her. But it seems there's no chance of that.
Until she shows up at the ranch he works at 34 days later.
ANALYSIS
Our main issue is that our heroine, Beth, has a rather low opinion of herself. She doesn't think she's attractive. She also has low self-worth because she is sterile.
The first 80% of the book is one way, and then it kind of morphs during the last 20%.
The first 80% is about a.) Mack figuring out and determining that Beth is a 'forever' kind of woman, not just looking for a good time like he initially thought and b.) Beth wrestling with her insecurities and Mack trying to make her feel pretty, special, and loved.
While I understand Beth's insecurities - look what happened to her marriage! - it was a little tiring to see the burden Mack had to haul for this entire book. I understand a woman having low self-esteem, but it's a lot to burden a man with to make him constantly try to 'prove' to you that he loves you or thinks you are pretty or values you. I felt like Mack had to work for this over and over and over and over again and it was getting a little frustrating that despite his actions and hard work, Beth still refused to trust him or have faith in him.
She also chose to hide her sterility from him for 77% of the book, and that was WAY too long IMO. All this angst and anxiety from her imagining scenarios in which he would reject and hurt her because of her infertility and she could have just nipped it in the bud by actually telling him about it and letting him deal with it. But no! She has to hide it! It has to be a big drama!
The last 20% this sort of jumped into being a different book when
But it was touching. All's well that ends well.
I liked the scene where she and Mack run into her old colleagues - love that she's not suffering like they think and she is in the company of a great man.
Never in her wildest dreams had she believed she was capable of walking into a bar and picking up a stranger. But after Brad's betrayal, she desperately needed to prove to herself that she was still desirable. pg. 9
I don't think the fact that Beth goes out to prove herself after her divorce is strange. I only think the results are highly unlikely.
I liked Beth. The constant doubting herself and low self-esteem grated on my nerves, though. She could have done with a bit more fuck-you spirit IMO.
She does randomly assault this bully guy in the middle of the book. She kicks him in the stomach. I was like "WTF? That's assault." Romance books like to act as if women performing acts of violence on men are of no consequence. No, they are the grounds for arrest and criminal charges. That was baffling and didn't really fit at all with the rest of the book. Very random.
I liked Mack - he was patient, kind, and didn't give up on her. He wasn't perfect, but he was a good hero.
HOW'S THE SEX, CARMEN?
ONS is not described. Second-time sex, months later, is vaguely described but not as bad as I was anticipating, despite Thomas's never-ending desire to make the female demand quick, non-foreplay sex. IT FILLS ME WITH RAGE. But this was vaguely described enough for me to imagine there was some good pre P-in-V activities going on, and they do use a condom.
I'll take what I can get.
TL;DR A sterile woman with low self-esteem about both her infertility and her looks gets lucky in more ways than one when a determination to have a ONS with a hot cowboy leads to more than she could have ever hoped for. A bit cheesy and ridiculous near the end, but overall enjoyable. Kept my interest and neither of the leads were annoying me too much.

Loved it! Mack and Beth meet at a bar one night. He is there playing with his band and she has come in to "celebrate" her divorce. They are drawn to each other immediately. Beth is only looking for one night of forgetfulness and to feel desirable again, and leaves in the morning before he wakes up. They don't expect to see each other again. When she shows up at the ranch where he works, Mack is thrilled to see her again and have a chance to get to know her.
Mack was great. After years of playing in his band and enjoying the ladies, he has begun to tire of it. He's almost thirty and has seen four brothers and his sister settle down, and he would like to have what they do. Though Beth gave the impression she was just another buckle bunny that night, he now realizes that she's just the woman he was looking for. He wants to see where their attraction might go. I loved his closeness to his family and the way that they all support each other. Mack wants that same kind of life with Beth. He tried so hard to show her what they could have together. I ached for him as she continued to resist.
Beth had gone with him that night because she needed to feel like an attractive woman again. Her husband had betrayed her by sleeping with her boss and getting her pregnant. This was a double blow to Beth because of her inability to have children. Mack's attention makes her feel wonderful, but she can't give him what he wants - a family of his own. Even after he tells her of his love and that they can adopt, Beth is afraid to trust that those feelings will last. It takes a special little girl to show her that Mack has the kind of love that will last forever. Though there were times I wanted to shake Beth because of her lack of faith in herself and Mack, I could feel her pain and her fears. I couldn't stop reading until she finally opened up her heart and saw the possibilities for their future.
I loved the ending and seeing how Mack and Beth were able to make the family they both wanted. I can't wait to see them pop up in Porter's book, as I am sure they will. One of the greatest things about family series like these is being able to see the characters as their lives unfold. I really enjoyed seeing the rest of the family and how they are all doing.

I love the "Cash Brother series." This is Mack (Merle Haggard Cash) story. He first meets Beth at a bar as she is celebrating her newly divorced status by going out of her say to be over the top not normal Beth. They meet up again a few months later at a Dude Ranch where Mack works and Beth goes to figure out what she is going to do with her life.
Beth is running away from her problems. Her husband cheated on her with her boss. The boss got pregnant, which is something that Beth can never be, and after the finalizing of the divorce her ex married her boss. Beth thinks she is a plain Jane but she is far from plain in the eyes of Mack.
Mack not only sings with a local Country band, but her works at a Dude ranch and is very close to his brothers and family. Family is important to Mack. Beth feels like she can not give Mack what he desires and refuses to open up to him about her inability to become pregnant.
Their story takes you through their struggles, friendship, love, and surprise ending. Please pick up "True Blue Cowboy" by Marin Thomas. I couldn't put it down it was just that good.

I haven't read an Harlequin romance in so long. When I read the plot of this one, I had to read it. It's exactly my type of romance I like to read. Small towns and cowboys. This one definitely did not disappoint. I really liked the hero and heroine. They weren't cookie cutter or 100% perfect and that's okay with me. A lot of emotions going on while reading this book. Laughter, sadness, seriousness, etc. I cried a lot in the last few chapters. Happy and sad tears. Keep those tissues handy. There was one part of the book at the end that I wished was different but that's okay. It made it seem more realistic and it didn't detract from the story or take away from the five stars that I gave it. I highly recommend this book and series.

This Cash Brother will break your heart.
Merle Haggard Cash (Mack) has seen his brothers fall in love and start to have families. He realizes that is what he wants, but he wants the girl-next-door type of woman. One night playing with his band he sees a woman at the bar the typical buckle bunny and has a one night stand. Only she leaves before he wakes without giving her last name or phone number.
Beth Richards just signed her divorce papers that day. Wanting to celebrate she goes outside her comfort zone and heads to a country bar looking as different as her normal self. Meeting Mack's gaze she signals him she is interested. Now she just can't get that night out of her mind.
Having quit her job after the divorce and no place to live she decides to go stay on a family friend's dude ranch. Beth rns into her one night stand he's a ranch hand. Mack can't believe his luck he meets the real Beth. The girl-next-door Beth.....now he needs to prove she is what he wants.
It took me a while to pick up the book to read. Not because I wasn't interested but it's hard knowing that a series you are attached to will be coming to an end. Only one more Cash Brother left to fall. As usual with Marin's books you will read it in one sitting. Just be aware that the last few pages you will be reading with tears in your eyee

Loved this book! Another great Cash Brothers book!
Merle Haggard “Mack” Cash meets “Just Beth” at a bar one night. He thinks she is just like all the other women throwing themselves at him. Mack is sick of that life and wants to find the woman he will be with forever. In that night they meet, he sees past what she presents herself as to the woman she is hiding underneath.
Beth Richards is hurt after her ex husband's betrayal and wants to be someone else for a night. She meets Mack at a bar and thinks it’s just a one-night romance. Even if she wanted more with Mack, she can’t face the disappointment that would come with another romance.
Beth goes to stay at a ranch and runs into Mack again-who had been trying to find her since their night together. Mack wants to pick up where they started and Beth wants to run afraid of a future with Mack. Can musician Mack convince Beth that he is for real and a true blue cowboy?

Mack Cash was a one night stand for Beth Richards. She is celebrating her divorce for her husband by drinking and a one night stand. She leaves before Mack wakes up. She meet him in a bar he was singing at with his group. She leaves before he wakes and he is left wondering about her. Mack also works at a dude ranch as foreman and ranch manager. He is shocked to see Beth again a month later at the ranch. She came there to think her life through and decide what to do. She is surprised when she sees Mack because she thought he just sang in a band. As they struggle to stay away from each other, their interest in each other increases. They have a lot of surprises in this relationship including a secret Beth is afraid to share. She thinks it will cost her Mack like it did her husband. This is a good read

This was a quick read and very easy to finish in one sitting. I have been enjoying this cowboy series about the Cash brothers and watching them fall in love one at a time. Merle Haggard Cash wanted more than one night stands now that he is getting closer to 30. Isn't it funny that he found the girl he wants from a one night stand? Beth was out celebrating her divorce and did something that she never thought she'd do. Turns out there was more to Beth and a hurt that ran deep. I think she just was too hurt to take a chance with Mack and I can understand why. Mack knew he had to prove he was wanted her above all else and what he did astounded me. Good for you Mack!!

A heartwarming romance story that will make you laugh and cry. I had a hard time putting the book down because I had to find out what would happen next. A story of the importance of family, love and second chances. Of getting over the past and getting on with your life. I loved every minute of the story and hated to see it end.

True Blue Cowboy by Marin Thomas
That's why she has to let Mack go….
how do Mack Cash and Beth Richards meet?
Do Mack Cash and Beth Richards become more than Friends?
where do Mack Cash and Beth Richards meet the second time?
how does Mack prove to Beth she is what he wants?
I highly recommend True Blue Cowboy by marin thomas.

These Cash Brothers books keep getting better and better! Mack & Beth have a one-night stand on the day Beth's divorce is finalized & Mack decides that he wants more than buckle bunnies. Mack is a lead singer in the band, but that isn't a full time job. Beth left her job because her husband had an affair with her boss & her boss was pregnant with his child. This was a double whammy because Beth is unable to have children. Mack has another job at a ranch, where Beth just happens to go to relax & figure out what she wants to do. The attraction is just as strong. Beth fights the relationship because she knows Mack wants children, but Mack wants her more. The love is strong, but they need to find a way to have a family. The solution was a sweet one, close to the end of the book. The Cash family presence is also scattered throughout. Loved this book & looking forward to the final one, Porter's story!

In True Blue Cowboy by Marin Thomas, Mack Cash is used to the buckle bunnies always wanting to get in his pants. And one night while playing at a bar he sees another one that just calls his attention and he wants to make sure that she doesn’t leave the bar without him.
Beth Richards is not the usual buckle bunny Mack is used to. She is classy and while she looks the part, she only dressed the part to celebrate her divorce with a hot fling that will make her forget and make her feel desirable again. Then figure out what to do with her life from now on. Read More...
