A mysterious invitation from an old friend brings private investigator Richard, spaceship pilot Eddie, and travel guide writer Alannah to a gorgeous, bustling metropolis on a planet where the dominant species can literally smell fear and lies.
Wenamak appears to be the picture perfect place, down to the finest detail, but dangers lurk beneath the pristine surface.
When a flippant wendek undercover agent seeks assistance on a delicate job, the Colibri Investigations crew soon find themselves tangled up in a shady game involving a web of illegal trade and exploitation. Luckily, Richard’s military training, Alannah’s intimate knowledge of the local culture, and Eddie’s tough attitude give the team the perfect edge to meet their client’s needs... at least until the they run into someone familiar whom none of them expected to see again.
There’s no planet too distant, no job too strange, for Colibri Investigations!
Marie Howalt was born and raised in a small North European kingdom called Denmark and started writing stories at the age of 11 after sucking the local library dry of science fiction and fantasy. After graduating from the University of Copenhagen with a master’s degree in English studies and religion, Marie worked as a translator between English and Danish for years before sustaining an injury that caused the condition PCS (Post Concussion Syndrome). Now Marie writes as much as physically possible. The stories are a lot longer and quite a bit more complex than the childhood scribbles, but they still take place in the far future, fantasy worlds or alternate realities. When not writing, Marie enjoys being a cat perch, drawing, reading and bribing imaginary people to tell their stories.
This book is my new favorite in the series, but I keep saying that for every new one. There was a nice surprise for me in it (I won't spoil it tho) and it gave my great satisfaction. I love how this series is so perfect for readers who get closely attached to characters and love following their shenanigans. Now I wanna know a lot more about the Wendek society!
Colibri Investigations is made up of private investigator Richard, spaceship pilot Eddie and travel guide writer Alannah. This time they're on planet Wenamak for a mission. A wendek undercover agent needs their help to shut down an illegal fighting ring and arms dealer. Richard's military background, Eddie's attitude and Alannah's knowledge of the local culture make them very suited for the job. Until everything goes awry...
I would call this series cozy sci-fi, despite it being rather violent at times. I believe it's the characters, and the fact that I by now know them fairly well, that makes this a cozy read. Even though we are on a different planet, where there are several alien species, I get a sense of home while reading. I don't really know why, but some things just can't be explained. 🤷♀️
I've mentioned it before, but it deserves to be repeated: Howalt is a master when it comes to diversity. And I don't mean the variety of species, but different kinds of queer and characters with disabilities. A rather complex character is Kierran, who we met in the previous book and who makes another appearance here. I'm looking forward to follow him and the other team members on more adventures henceforth!
* I received an ARC from the author and I'm giving my honest review. *
In the third book, our team is investigating illegal trade, and a fight ring. We also meet again our old friend Kierran from, who appeared in a previous book.
I really enjoy this series. I’m not a huge fan of sci-fi, but Marie Howalt describes everything really well, and the worldbuilding is easy to understand.
Perfect if you’re looking for some action-filled book.
Disclaimer: I received a free earc from the author in exchange for my honest review.
Many thanks to the author for an eARC of this novella!
This was such a captivating sci-fi novella to read! It is the third installment in Howalt’s Colibri Investigations series, however, it can be read and enjoyed as a standalone too.
I am actually so glad I got to read this! It really reminded me of why I love the sci-fi genre so much and I found it a lot easier to remain engaged with than some other sci-fi reads I’ve had in the past. I found the world building to be of great interest and it was exposed throughout the story so naturally that it never felt like tedious infodumping. The story itself was riveting and had plenty of action, however, I would say I was more drawn to the charming characters and the universe.
My only complaint is that I wanted to keep reading! I really do look forward to reading more from this author! I would definitely recommend this novella to anyone wanting a quick but riveting sci-fi read.
**I was provided with a digital copy of the book through the author in exchange for an honest review**
CW: violence, gun violence, blood, injury, drug use/abuse, addiction, chronic illness, ableism, kidnapping, ptsd, swearing, medical content/trauma --
This fun little novella was my introduction to the Colibri Investigations series. It is cosy sci-fi with a nice does of adventure and despite being book 3 the story works perfectly as a standalone.
The Colibri Investigations crew is made up of Richard Hart who is a private investigator, Alannah Jackson a live-in travel/tourism writer and Eddie Macías the pilot of their ship the Colibri. This particular novella follows the trio as they are pulled into a mission on the planet Wenamak to help an undercover agent crack down on an illegal weapons trading network and underground fighting ring. However, things start to go sideways when an old acquaintance of the crew makes an appearance.
You know when you’re flipping channels on the tv and land on a random episode, mid series of a show you’re familiar with that you’re yet to start but is easy enough to get pulled into and enjoy regardless – reading this felt like that.
There is a good amount of action in the book which is well written and the primary plot was definitely entertaining but I think what carried the story are the personal journeys of the characters and the interactions between them all, especially with regards to mental health and disability rep. Some themes that are touched on are ableism, invisible disabilities, drug use/addiction and PTSD.
Howalt is a great storyteller and the narration immediately gives you a sense for the personalities of each of the protagonists as well as their camaraderie – I do love a good found family and the dynamic of the Colibri crew was quite wholesome! Plus prior to each chapter are a range of snippets from articles and text chats which further added to both the character backstories and the worldbuilding which was great.
The latter was never too complicated to understand and whilst we are only on the one world over the course of this story, we are introduced to a handful of distinct alien species with their own cultures which made me all the more interested to explore more of this expansive universe.
Additionally the hints and references to past missions and the history behind character relationships have got me really curious to pick up the previous books in the series! Final Rating – 3.5/5 Stars
Alanna is now properly part of the crew of the Colibri and this next adventure takes them to a new planet once again. This story has awesome fight scenes again but also some diplomatic moments where the conversation that is going on is all that matters. Both I really enjoy in books and this novella had the right balance and executed them well. The fighting scenes were fast and always had me on the end of my seat. The intensity was high and it was a lot of fun.
There are two new characters introduced, the doctor helping less fortunate humans, and the wendek Raithan. I really enjoyed both of these characters. The human doctor named Chrys is a very bubbly sweet woman that reminds me of the kindness Alanna embodies. We don't see that much of her during the book but I greatly enjoyed the time spent with her. Raithan is a central character from start to finish. He gives the Colibri the job but is also part of it himself. It was so fun to see more of the different species in this universe with the highlight on the Wendek. Wendek seem so interesting, and like the book says so close to humans, but also so different at the same time. The scene where we meet Raithan at the art building was so much fun and the way he insists on his customs was really interesting.
There is also one other character that makes an appearance, but for spoilers reasons I won't mention them... but let me just say I was so happy to see this character in this book too. I also really loved the ending, but same as before I won't say much about that either. Just go read it!
I enjoyed that this book had POV chapters of many people as well. We had all three of the Colibri and even some more. I can often feel overwhelmed with too many POV, but I really had none of that here. Perspectives flowed between people really easily and tied the story together in a neat way. It thus was great to see how everyone was experiencing moments of mayhem and gave us a good look at the whole of the situation. It really made the book a lot better.
Concluding I think this is a great third novella that I would recommend anyone to pick up if they've read the first two, and if they didn't I'd say to start reading this series asap.
Rated 4.25 stars rounded down I received an eARC and this was my honest review.
The Wenamak Web (book 3 in the Colibri Investigations series) by @mhowalt
It may be the third in the series but it reads perfectly well as a standalone which is great news for people like me that haven't read the first two.
Firstly a big thank you to Marie for the eARC. Coming from Spaceboy Books, The Wenamak Web is due for release on 25th September.
This 165 page novella is a whole heap of fun. Richard Hart is an interstellar private investigator (I KNOW!) and has military training. He's accompanied by Eddie the rather fiery and hyper addicted (WHOAH) pilot and Alannah, a very caring travel writer (WHAT?) among other things.
The spaceship Colibri arrives on the planet Wenamak where the dominant species may look relatively human but they have uncanny abilities with their sense of smell. Mask your pheromones or they'll know you're lying (YES, REALLY).
An undercover wendek agent needs the crews assistance on a sensitive mission in illegal trade and what should be a straightforward mission quickly turns deadly.
It's a fast paced character-led adventure with terrific world building with the future tech and culture and different species. There's a cosy feel to the book and yet there is action and peril and mystery. I would recommend to any sci-fi reader but also fantasy book readers as the different characters that have come together here to help each other gave me the same feeling as Legends & Lattes (A MEGA-SUCCESS) with what I'm reliably informed is the found family trope.
There's gender representation without it being an issue. Characters and species just are what they are. Casual queerness is the term (I hope I got that right).
For a cosy novella with added action and adventure there's also fantastic disability representation, as well as themes of PTSD and addiction. There's even a character that brings the whole body augmentation theme (CYBERPUNK!).
I HAD AN ABSOLUTE BLAST (sorry, keep getting excited with the CAPS) reading this.
My only problem is that I now really want to read the first two books but my tbr is already chaos (CHAOS, I TELL YOU). And there will be more. The Colibri Investigations crew will return (YAY!).
I am high-key obsessed with the Colibri Investigations series! This is a set of sci-fi of novellas following the crew of the Colibri, headed up by ex-military man Captain Richard Hart, as well as his pilot Eddie, and Alannah, a travel writer and cultural consultant. They can 100% be read as standalones, but with each book clocking in at under 200 pages, they’re all fun little reads which are enjoyable as a series too!
In the Wenamak Web, the Colibri crew are called to the eponymous planet, where an underground gang are organising fights between different alien species, including humans. With the help of local undercover agent Raithan, the team work together to try and uncover what is going on and how best to stop it.
I loved this novella because of the way so much happens in such a short amount of time - the story is fast paced and full of interesting characters, cultural insights and action. Plus one of my favourite characters from Assassins & Olympians (book 2) makes an appearance and oooohboyyyy was their story arc amazing in this book!
This series is just perfect for anyone who likes fast-paced sci-fi fantasy with a lot of amazing world-building, with alien races and fascinating cultures! I hesitate to call it cozy, as there are definitely some action-packed moments, but it’s overall low-angst and perfect for a quick yet immersive read!
Read The Wenamak Web for: ✨ Sci-fi novella; amazing alien worldbuilding ✨ Disabled MC; auditory processing disorder ✨ MC struggling with addiction ✨ Queer-normative world, inc trans rep ✨ Uncovering a criminal underworld ✨ Secret meeting whilst doing arts and crafts
Thank you so much to the author for an ARC of this book! It’s available on 12th September 2024 💕
I received this book from the author in exchange for a fair review. I read the previous installment of this novella series last year - Assassins and Olympians - and really enjoyed it. That one can be read without reading the first book, but this one does need book 2, I would argue.
A cozy sci-fi with some action, The Webamak Web is a light, fun adventure with loveable characters and cool alien species.
I won’t get into too much detail about the aliens, as part of the fun of the book is learning about them, but the Wenamak are essentially super hot space elves (despite the book saying they are not space elves haha). In the last book, we learned about the bird people, and in this book, we get these folks. Their physiological differences were very interesting and how that tied into the plot was well done.
The characters are the core of the story, though, as with most cozy books. We have Richard, the retired military man with a disability, Eddie a pilot with an addiction, Alannah, whose deal we still dont’ know 100%, and Keirran, an augmented solider. The first three are a definite found family and all of them are endearing and interesting. Eddie is my favourite, and she gets into some really great situations in this book.
One of the fun things about the book is that we’re given some backstory via long epigraphs at the start of the chapters from either a book Alannah is writing, reports, transcripts, and other stuff. This was a fun way to break up the text and tell us some stuff in a way that didn’t take away from the story itself.
So, if you’re looking for something fun and quick and cozy and queer, definitely check this one out! Thank you again to Marie for the review e-copy!
Another fun novella about the Colibri Investigations! This found family sci-fi series is action-packed and yet somehow also cozy, with a loveable spaceship crew and interesting alien cultures.
In this one, we follow ex-military-turned-private-investigator Richard Hart and his ragtag crew as they are contracted to bring down an illegal fighting ring on a planet full of aliens who can literally smell lies and deceit. Some faves of mine return, including tourist-guide-writer Alannah and tough ship pilot Eddie, along with some new allies they meet along the way.
The plot was entertaining, and I especially appreciate the care that went into the representation of characters’ disabilities and mental health; this representation is important, all the more so when it is approached with love and understanding. An enjoyable read which made me laugh out loud more than once, and deepened many of the relationships set up in the previous book. I would have happily read more pages about the Colibri crew!
Thanks to Marie Howalt and Spaceboy Books for providing me with an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review!
thank you so much to the author for sending me an eARC to review!
this is book 3 in the the Colibri Investigations series- a series of sci-fi novellas with a diverse cast of characters solving mysteries, exploring new planets, learning about different alien species, and bickering like the dysfunctional found family that they are 🥰
in book 3 we get more backstory and insight into one of our newer main characters which i LOVE! every character feels fully realized, and their witty banter simply cannot be beat~ and while this is a low stakes sort of adventure, the themes got super deep in this one?? there are discussion of trauma and ptsd and disability and addiction and more serious topics that were well incorporated and helped us see the characters’ more vulnerable sides. basically i loved everything about this installment a whole lot and i can’t wait to read more from the author in the future!
I inhaled this book in a couple of hours. Its both cozy and action-packed at the same time and makes me think of ‘Firefly’ (TV-show) and ‘A long way to a small and angry planet’ (book) by Becky Chambers.
‘The Wenamak Web’ is the third installment in a series of novellas about The Colibri crew, but I read it as a standalone – and it works great like that as well. It does come with the hazard of getting involved, which means I now have to go back and read the rest of the series.
The characters are vivid just like the alien cultures and the whole universe in general.
It took me a few chapters to get immersed, but when the mission kicked off and someone from the crew’s past made an appearance, I was hooked.
So the Colibri Investigations novellas tends to be a bit more on the gritty and noir side of things (but in a cosy sorta way!). But here there's a more Bond-esque feel, complete with fancy dress (or at least, where Eddie's concerned, looking less disheveled than usual.
The plot revolves around illegal weapons' sale and illegal cage fights. And admittedly, the plot could have revolved around illegal hyper sale and illegal prostitution and it would not have made a great difference for the plot, although then that scene with Kierran and Eddie would have played out a lot different, so it's probably for the best that Howalt went with the cage fight. This is my very longwinded way of saying that the plot is perfectly serviceable, but does not contains any huge twists and turns. It is mostly there as a vehicle for the main attraction, which is, as always, the characters and their relationships.
And speaking of 'ships, wink-wink-know-what-I-mean? ;) It's still very slowburn, but it's undeniably there.
Also, I loved the feeling of poor Richard trying to be a good mom to those crewmembers/surrogate children of his, bless the man. Even when they're not almost getting themselves killed, they can be a handful.
We get a more in-depth look at Wendek society through excerpts from Alannah's writings, which was pretty cool. Maybe because of where I was when I first read the novella, I felt like it was inspired by the glamorization of Japanese society done by a lot of people in the west and it was a really good take on the issue.
Towards the end the novella we get a shift in the status quo, which ... should make for some interesting developments in the next book. Which so-me tells me Howalt is already working on, so looking forward to that!
To conclude, while this is very recognizably a Colibri Investigations book as we know and love them, there's some new developments to keep long-term fans on their toes. New fans can start here, although I would recommend reading the series in order.
CW: depictions of drug addiction/use, PTSD, some violence
Thank you to the author for the ARC! “The Wenamak Web” is available now!
I’m never going to get tired of how wonderful these cozy space adventures are.
Off on a new job, the Colibri agency has agreed to meet up with an old friend of Richard’s. When the friend informs Richard of an illegal fight club and underground weapons deals, the crew jumps in to gather enough evidence to bring it all down.
I simply don’t understand how these books keep getting better! As always, the author’s delivered a fast paced, incredibly entertaining sci fi story that just oozes cozy comfort despite the action-packed plot. Our crew is delightfully hilarious, and I fully laughed out loud at some of their commentary.
If you want to read a story that’s just a genuinely good time without being sickly sweet or overly simple, then this is the series for you. These books are the perfect, bite-sized length to give you a great story without a large time commitment. If the author *wanted* to give us an 800 page door-stop of a novel all about this crew, though, I wouldn’t be upset. The characters are uniquely charming and well-developed as individuals, and the universe as it’s described here is intriguing and obviously full to bursting with beings and cultures that provide incredible backdrops to the story. I love everything about these books, and you all need to read them immediately.
The Wenamak Web by Marie Howalt is the third book in the Colibri Investigations novella series. I love these short scifi books! They are such a great palette cleanser between heavy books. The nice thing about these is that you don't really have to read them in order to understand what is going on, although it does help to give context.
We're back with the private investigator team of Richard Hart, Eddie, and Alanna as they take a job on Wenamak from a wendek client. We get to learn a lot more about the wendek and their culture in this book. Howalt is really great at expanding the world with each book. These books kind of remind me of Becky Chambers Wayfarer series, in that they aren't really about the bigger plot or intense scifi themes, but mostly about the characters and the world-building.
This one was action packed and fun. We even see the return of a character from the last book. All of these books are queer, which really just makes me ship Alanna and Eddie. I do hope we get to see the mysterious and beautiful Micah Dietrich again soon, just to make Richard all flustered. I also love the disability representation in these books. Richard had a brain injury caused from a sickness that has made it so he can't process audio input. He can hear when people are talking, but can't process their speech, so he lip reads instead. We also explore Eddie's hyper addiction. Alanna continues to be the softest cinnamon roll.
This was a fun read, and I look forward to the next adventure with Colibri Investigations!
The Wenamak Web is the third novella in the cozy queer scifi procedural Colibri Investigations. This time around, our favorite aphasic investigator Richard, his tough pilot Eddie, and the ever friendly writer Alannah are asked by an old friend of Richard’s to help a clandestine investigation on her planet involving weapons smuggling and underground fighting gangs. But complications arise when a recent acquaintance of theirs appears and unknowingly disrupts their operation.
Once again, this was just an enjoyable quick read although I think it is straying further from the cozy classification with the ever increasing deadly stakes while still delivering the found family dynamic I want out of it. There were some good action sequences and furthering of the characters, but the book does just throw them into the deep end here. They didn’t really investigate much and everything just went awry rather quickly. So this installment felt very situational and reactionary than actually having a case that they have to investigate and figure out.
I continue to love Richard, the stoic ex-military man with Wernicke’s aphasia who I really want to finally get a love interest please. We also get more insight into Eddie and the addiction that ruined her career. Alannah still delights as the heart of this crew. And I LOVE that *spoiler* is being added to the team which I really wanted after the previous installment, and I cannot wait to see what they add to the dynamic especially with how this book ended.
The Wenamak Web continues to be a fun and investing scifi read although it doesn’t feel quite as cozy or queer as the earlier novellas.
*Thank you to the author for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you Marie for inviting me on this journey with you! I feel very honoured to read and review another work from you. < I’m an ARC reader for this novel and am leaving this honest review voluntarily >
The Wenamak Web is the third instalment in the Colibri Investigations series, and boy did I miss these characters!
I’ve always admired how easily Howalt includes pronouns, queerness and transness throughout their stories, and The Wenamak Web is no different. They really are setting a new bar for sci-fi and I am living for that! Diversity in sci-fi and fantasy spaces often feels forced, but never in Howalt’s works. This work also deals a lot with PTSD, and I felt a lot of comfort in how accurately that was written.
The Wenamak Web has a slower start but is still really well paced and held my attention easily, which added to the enjoyment of reading it. This novel is the perfect mix of cozy/crime/humour/action- it’s so awesome. And oh my gosh, Kierran!! This character has had such a huge story arc it’s crazy and I love him. And Alannah is just the biggest angel with him my gosh. The whole crew is so loveable honestly.
I received an eARC from the author in exchange for an unbiased review.
This 3rd installment of the Colibri Investigation series continues the adventures of private investigator Richard Hart and his rag-tag crew. This time we’re brought to the planet of Wenamak, home to the wendek race. Who are not space elves, we are teasingly reminded. Richard is hired by an undercover agent to help take down a ring of illegal fight clubs and arms dealers. What should have been a straightforward job becomes almost immediately complicated by the reappearance of fugitive super-soldier Kierran, from the last book.
For me, it feels like the series is starting to hit its stride. The characters and their relationships are well established, the worldbuilding is starting to fill out, and you can really see how each novella’s story connects to the others. I also really enjoyed getting to see some alien culture after two books of humans in space! Thanks to the nature of this adventure we get to see both the shiny veneer that tourists see, and the seedy underbelly of wendek culture. They feel like a fully realized and realistic culture.
I was sent an e-ARC from the author for an honest review. Thank you, Marie!
This is the third instalment in the Colibri Investigations series and it´s my favourite so far! It took me only 3 hours to read because it´s such cozy queer romp and I particularly enjoyed seeing the character/crew relationship develop.
And, as this is in the blurb... any plot involving exposing the picture perfect is a plot I will enjoy.
In this book I also got a better understanding of how much work the author has put into the worldbuilding through the short chapters covering different themes like art and language differences in the different existing cultures.
These books sort of remind me of Doctor Who episodes, as the science is there but rather soft, there´s a lot of focus on inter-crew relationships and the format allows for one book = one mission, so there´s plenty of planets/cultures/scenarios to be explored at the same time as we as readers are grounded in the familiarity of the crew.
I´m excited to keep on exploring the Colibri investigations universe 😊
I loved this third book in the Colibri Investigation series, and these books will forever be some I pull out on a rainy day with low energy.
The book hooked me at once and the queer normative world is always amazing, and I'm so here for it, but this time we get to delve deeper into the personalities and troubles of the Colibri Crew, and visit old friends.
The PTSD rep in this book was really nice, because it was handled in a very thoughtful way that really shows what's going on "behind the scenes" so to speak, of people who suffer from it. There's also a trans character meeting someone for the first time after transitioning that's handled in a pretty non-traumatic way, that's really realistic in the small miscommunication and shuffle dance of "how do we do this" that comes from both sides.
That in itself is a full star for this book.
And then there's the expected shenanigans of the crew, of a job that seems dubious but is needed and work/family relationships that are allways rocking around good and bad days.
This is just a really good series you should treat yourself to.
Richard Hart is a private detective in this science fiction novella. He has been asked by an old friend on to investigate a ring of underground gun sales on the planet Wenamak.
This was a fast-paced, action packed, multi-POV, multimedia story with a diverse cast of characters. I enjoyed that there was always something happening, but as someone who prefers character driven stories I probably would have enjoyed this a little more had I read the previous books. I realized this when the part I was most enjoying was a reveal about a character introduced part way that really caught my interest. However, this book can definitely be read as a standalone within a series.
I like Howalt’s writing style and the use of the excerpts for worldbuilding elements felt really new. Though on occasion they felt a little unconnected in terms of their source. Sometimes that made it feel a little forced, but near the end it kind of started making sense as if it was a document being put together.
Thank you to the author for the opportunity to read this before release.
This is the third novella in the Colibri Investigations series, a wonderful sci-fi crime sequence that manages to be simultaneously action-packed, fast-paced, funny, and contemplative.
This was such a heartwarming read. It's short and fun with lots of humour, but it also has a depth that left me thinking about it for quite some time after putting it down. Marie Howalt manages to touch on quite a lot of difficult subjects with a light hearted but careful finesse that is honestly just really lovely to read.
The characters are all flawed people with their own unique challenges but they are so freakin' good. They always have each other's backs and I am an absolute sucker for the found family vibes. 💕
I'm also in love the worldbuilding and the exploration of different alien cultures in these stories. The wendek are the stars of this particular show and they are fascinating.
I highly recommend this series if you like fun but thoughtful reads, found family, queernorm societies, disability rep, and/or just cool low-ish stakes sci-fi (though it's not particularly low stakes for the characters themselves!).
Huge thank you to the author for sending me an e-copy for review! 💙
Nicely written but I just couldn’t get into it, I like the writing style and idea, it has potential but just didn’t grip me. The characters don’t have amazing depth or development, I really wanted to like this but it fell flat for me.
I didn’t really feel like I got invested or comfortable with any one character because they’re all shallow and the pov switches too much/quickly for a short novella set in such a complicated world. With the amount of world building and story telling necessary it’s difficult to also explore the characters properly especially if you’re trying to do too many at once.
I love the concept of the world and characters, but because it’s trying to take on so much in a short space it just leaves the characters, story and world underexplored. I found it boring and feeling much longer than a novella should.
It was also a little hard to follow but that could be because I’m not into it. The writing was great, dialogue a little disjointed at times and I didn’t enjoy this, but I would still read from this author in future. It’s an interesting start but does not feel fully finished or fleshed out enough.
This was such a fun and fast paced read. I really like the cast of characters, their personalities and humour mixed with complex histories made them enjoyable to read and easy to connect with. The plot was engaging and fast paced, a detective crime mystery in space is such a great concept and it was really well done in this book. I thought the world building was really cleverly done between chapters from journals, chat logs, letters and articles it provided good intermissions between chapters and much needed details for the reader about the planets, species and some history of these. Overall this was so fun to read, it's a really accessible scifi story for a genre that can be intimidating and the novella format meant it wasn't too long or complicated to follow.
This is the third installment to a series but can easily be read as a standalone.
📱 Many thanks to the author for the eARC copy of this book.
This is the third book in the Colibri series. Like the previous books, it is such a cosy book that was so much fun to read.
The Colibri crew are back with more shenanigans and more fast-paced action. I love this crew so much. With every book, their bond grows closer and they feel more like family. It is also really cool that one of the characters we met back in book 2 makes an appearance in this one. And looks to be sticking around, for a little while at least. This makes me so happy as I really liked that character and was hoping to see more of them.
I can’t wait to see what’s next for the Colibri crew.
I'd like to thank the author for gifting me an EARC of her latest instalment in her Colibri Investigations series.
This is the third novella in this series, and while its been a while since I read the previous two, I was instantly transported back into their world from the first page.
I was thrilled to see the return of one of my favourite characters from the previous instalment and honestly can't wait to see where they go from here. With every new novella, the universe becomes richer and more diverse, and it's wonderful to see the world growing as the story does.
This is a quick, fun, and easy read that can also be read as a standalone if you find you don't have the time to go back and start at the beginning.
Man oh man does this crew know how to find trouble 😂. What should be a simple job turns into straight chaos and a surprise reunion. This was the perfect way to start my day...coffee in one hand and kindle in the other.
I just love the dynamic between Richard, Eddie and Alannah. They are all so different but together they just work. Action. Adventure. Sci-Fi and Danger. What a fun read.
Thank you to the author for sharing this one with me. I can't wait to see what shenanigans await in the next installment.
