Day Out With Daddy
A special day with Daddy can be a whole lot of fun. Just don't tell Mommy. . . When Mommy leaves town, a young son has a day out with Daddy. Whether they're starting the day with a good breakfast, of every donut and pastry available, or finishing it with a late, late show on T.V. (with Daddy watching with eyes closed), everything is extra fun. Daddy sure likes to do things his own way! Each event in a boy's day is filled with double meanings and humor when told from his unique point of view. Mommy will be so sorry she's missing out on all the fun.

It's supposed to be ironic but this is not the type of "fatherhood" I want modeled. Mom goes away while Dad is the fun parent, feeding the kid sugary snacks, ordering pizza, and staying up late. The last line is something to the effect of "Mom is never leaving us home alone again". It basically models a man that is not an equal caregiver and gets to be an adult man-child. Sigh. Women see this all the time in real life so the book is not really that funny.

All the sexist drivel that we have come to expect when daddy is in charge. Daddy can't control his child, can't cook, can't make a healthy breakfast to save his life and on. So terrible.

My dad is much more competent than this dad. I just think this joke is old, and I'm only three and a half.

***I am pretty sure this was written for kids.*** All three of my kids have loved reading it with me, their dad and sitters and siblings. We have read it over and over. We talk about the story as we are reading and ask, "would your dada do that?" My kids, and I think most others, have enough awareness to see the humor in it. As do I. As does their competent father, though he does by them cereal when I am gone.

I thought this was going to be a cute book about a boy enjoying time with his dad. Turns out, it's just the tired old trope of how bad the dad is at being a parent when mom is gone.

A young boy explains using a humorous twist of how him and his dad spend their days together when his mom goes out of town, and misses all the fun.

My son selected this book fortuitously a few days before I went on a business trip. It seriously helped him understand that Mommy was gone but that she would return soon. The author takes the simple concept of the primary caregiver going away for a short trip into a fantastic adventure and hilarious change from routine for Daddy and his little guy. Its an enlightening book from the perspective of a child that reinforces that it doesn't matter if Mommy and Daddy have different styles, each is acceptable and part of the family dynamic.

I can't wait to buy this book! The words are innocent enough, but the pictures are what make it hilarious! For example, one page SAYS that he's helping his dad make his bed, but the picture shows them jumping on it, instead! A book of what happens when Mom goes out of town, and Dad is left in charge!

This book is hilarious although most of the jokes will go over the kids' heads. It celebrates in a way how daddies invariably do things differently than mommies. The pictures are fun, bright and engaging and the story is short (not many words per page) so great for before bed duty.

This is one of those books that adults will laugh at and the kids won't understand why:)

This is a great story of a little boy and the adventure filled day he spent with Daddy. Such a great day the two have while mom is away, if only mommy knew what those two were really up to.

This is one of those books where the text and pictures tell different stories with a hilarious effect.
