Obsessed: Part Two

Rate this book
When Ivy first met Jax, she knew he was everything she wanted, but she didn't need. She couldn't have been more right. She thought she was done with the lies, the secrets and the betrayals, but her past is inescapable, no matter how hard she tries. That pain that she once thought was buried forever is slowly starting to resurface and it may just be too much for her already fragile heart to take.

If there's one thing that Ivy loves most about Jax, it's his relentless need for control. He does everything he can to win her back and to prove that there's more to him than his past demons. He swears he's a changed man, but can a man like Jax ever really change?

As Ivy begins to believe in Jax again, an unexpected secret tears her world apart. Past lovers return, schemes are exposed and Ivy is left standing in the center of it all.

Deborah Bladon has never read a romance hero she didn't like. Her love for romance novels began when she was old enough to board the bus, library card in hand to check out the newest Harlequin paperbacks. She's a Canadian by heart, and by passport, but you can often spot her in New York City sipping a latte and looking for inspiration for her next story. Manhattan is definitely her second home.

She cherishes her family and believes that each day is a gift for writing, for reading, and for loving.

well except for the doorman apparently. He just keeps letting them up.

I really have to wonder if Ivy has on ounce of sense in the pretty little dumb blonde head if hers. It truly is not a far stretch of the imagination, when she tries to play dumb blondeto get her way.

And the guys

Someone please change the name of this novel and give us back the Ivy of book 1. This Ivy was naive, annoying and searching for love in all the wrong places. It's like she reverted to a teenage version of herself. At this point, I can see her by herself, but I doubt she would. If I was a psychiatrist, I'd even go as far as to recommend it. Some people needed a breather, she is one of them. I am waiting to see what it is she sees in Jax.

I still haven't connected with Jax, but I can say with certainty that he is a controlling douche. Maybe there are points to his personality that I am missing, but those two are the ones that stand out for me. He has yet to win my vote. A vase of Daisy and a cheesy little necklace doesn't do it for me either. I hope this is the aim of Ms. Bladon, for the character, because based off principles alone, I dislike the personality of most of the main characters in this novel.

I think I have figured out what the obsession in this novel is, but it's not what I expected or wanted when I first picked up this series. Reading this story hasn't gotten me interested either, as I believe that deception runs more rampant than obsession.

I liked Mark in this installment, especially when he stood up to Ivy in the last half of this novel. I assume he is suppose to be the bad guy, but when he's not sleeping with half of Manhattan, he wins me over. We know that he cares for Ivy obviously, but his self-preservation tactics in the face of Ivy's naivety, is the closest to reality we came in this novel.

There were a few scenes, that needed more weight than they pulled, like the ones with Ivy and her dad. Fret not though, because most of the reveals of this novel like book 1, was drama filled but complimented the issues and current situations well. This story is moving full speed ahead. In some areas and in the name of development, that speed is welcomed, as it's a novella. Still, it sometimes need to get a hold of things that thread the unrealistic line.

As short as this novel is we have met new characters, learnt more about the old ones and spend some time with Ivy's life outside of Manhattan. For all the misconceptions and my lack of attraction to the lead male, I can stick with this story to the end, mostly because it's not that far away.

Swimming in cliches with a questionable cast, 'Obsessed' surely knows how hold my attention at the end and Ms. Adams is still her nosy, lovable self. I might have rolled my eyes repeatedly by the end of this novel, but I am sure I am gonna pick up the next installment, because I did remain interested. As is, I have only one favourite and no expectation. I am not as invested in this story as I thought I would be, but thankfully it progresses, or it would have been a complete failure for me.

Length: 1401 kindle
Style: Erotic Romance
Story: FAIRLY GOOD
Intimacy level: GOOD
Enjoyment: FAIR
Series: Obsessed (The Obsessed series Part:2 )
Price: $0.99

3.50****stars .

The Good

A nice continuation , not great continuation. I am a fan of Obsessed part 1 as we are getting to know everyone and reading the ultra sexy attraction between Jax and Ivy. Part 2, was focused on the lies and deception that keeps building around Jax, as you're still not sure of his in tensions with Ivy's feelings other that her shares in Mark's company. I admit, I am caught up a bit in the mystery and betrayal as a new player is introduce that could be in on Jax's deception, and the cliffhanger is pretty juicy.

The Bad

Having to wait again on finding out what happen, hence part 3 . Part 2 was a mellow read, nothing jumps out that speeds up the heart rate for me other than reading the twist and turns of Jax's life. I felt the flow of part 2 didn't give me the same effects of excitement as part 1. I think it makes a huge difference the way a reader feels about a book when reading it fully through verses when you have to wait and your constantly reading about the same two characters. Waiting in most cases declines the anticipation to a point where you just don't care anymore. I would still recommend this series, but I would tell the reader to wait until all the books are out to read it fully through, the experience is better.

Overall, I still like the book and where the story is going and will wait to see what happens in book 3. Hopefully it's soon and my interest is still on point.

Warning! this should be read the early part of the day!

If I ever thought book one ending was a cliffy, this one takes the cake. Just as I thought too that Jax and Ivy's life was going oh so smooth and calm, Wham! Bam! I got slammed! I scrambled to get the 3rd book, and it's past three in the wee hours but who the hell cares?! There was no way my eyes would shut down for the much needed sleep when my mind was so wide awake with the bombshell that was just dropped at the end, NO Effing Way!!! sleep be damned!!

There are so many things going on, big and small you don't know if you're coming or going. After the taking over part of the business Jax owned and handed over to Ivy as part of the business negotiation, Ivy was ready to take the next step and move in with Jax, only to be blindsided again with the hardest, heartbreaking truth no sane woman would be able to take without losing her mind....aahh! I myself can't help screaming with madness. I gotta go and get the next book or lose my sanity. Fair warning my co readers, start reading early on so you don't get trapped in the wee hours because truly, you're just gonna have to get the third book after reading this mother of all shocker!

What happened? I was excited to see where the story would go but it was a mess and completely ridiculous. Ivy is unbelievably naïve and gullible. She didn't use her brain at all. She just let her lust take control. I don't know... not too happy with what's happening. I honestly expected better. Hopefully the next book will turn things around.

Book 2 has improved on Book 1. I am enjoying the twists and turns in Jax and Ivy's relationship and how their obsession with each other copes when things turn to crap....sometimes not for the best. All the secondary characters in this series play interesting parts in affecting Jax and Ivy's lives....some good....some bad.

OK so.. I'm actually still reading this but I think I need to call it quits. I definitely should have paid attention to the title more because Jax is definitely obsessed, in a very unhealthy way. This story has just sort of baffled me right from the beginning. I've read both the Vain and Ruin series and thought quite highly of those and blasted straight through them but this one is causing me issues. Like the fact that Jax and Ivy go from their first meeting to then being in a semi-serious relationship in the span of a few chapters. The beginning of these two being together is not fleshed out at all. No phone numbers are exchanged, no dates to call of, they're just fucking but its like super serious-relationship-fucking with Jax clearly thinking this is a full on exclusive relationship.

SPOILERS BELOW......

They go from getting busy on the couch one night to then finding out that Jax is basically her new boss a couple days after. In this book he's so, so, so controlling and I'm only on chapter 11. He clearly has some secrets and hopefully an explanation for why he's being a complete douche is to come but I don't think I can wade through to find out. He's already proved he's a liar and seriously warned Ivy off of speaking to her ex and her ex-best friend after their huge fallout which is a huge red flag. In the authors other series I find the mysterious details intriguing and they keep me reading but this time I just can't get past how he is with Ivy and I can't see that any explanation he gives is gonna be enough. I need controlling characters like Jax to have some redeeming qualities and I just don't think he has any!! He's controlling, possessive, needy and then weepy, being all MINE in one second to full on clipped and curt with Ivy the next. And the explanation to this so far is that he was cheated on before and he's afraid it'll happen again... I need more than this for the way he's acting.

And she's the same, all hurt and betrayed one minute to understanding and needy the next. She has no backbone to speak of and after reading so many similar stories or stories in the same genre or vein as this, I KNOW it's possible to have characters more fleshed out than this and for the female to have a strong sense of self and a backbone and still have a good, albeit stereotypical, new adult storyline with lots of sex ;)

Just don't think this is as good as the authors other book collections. The writing and dialogue aren't as progressed as they are in Vain and Ruin, so give those a try... and maybe leave this one by the wayside. - this is way more than I planned to write lol. Got carried away..

What I Loved: Wow! I thought the first story was dramatic, but damn this one blows the first one out of the water!!! Once again we find ourselves plunged into Ivy Marlow’s world, and her trying to put the puzzle pieces of Jax’s relationship with her and with Mark’s company. The first story ended with a big cliff hanger, and this story picks up right where the first one left off. I love that this story line isn’t just a love story but also somewhat of a mystery. We find out some more things about Jax in this story, but once again by the end you feel like you don’t know him at all. On top of Ivy trying to find her way around Jax and Mark’s relationship, she gets a whole other bomb dropped on her that puts her into a tailspin. Hell if it was me, I probably would’ve punched someone in the face and then faint!

Not So Much: I don’t enjoy how transparent Ivy is in this series so far. I hate how many of the female leads in these types of stories kind of lay out their feelings and their lives to these men who give them very little in return. Jax shares almost nothing with Ivy, and although it frustrates her at certain points I wish she would be more insistent or hold something back herself because their relationship to me, is very unbalanced. For once I would love to see the female lead be the mysterious one, holding more power instead of the other way around.

I am not rating just this novella but the whole series an overall 3.5ish stars...

Here are some side thoughts:

>The connection between Jax and Ivy seemed forced at times...

>There was an insta-love that had me WTFing?????

>Ivy was a complicated mess at times I loved her character and thought she was very classy chick while other times I just thought she was a moron...

>The secondary cast was lacking...

>I never understood why Jax was so obsessed...

As with all my reviews I always keep in mind when rating how much the book kept me engrossed in the story. This series of novellas (one book broken into 4 parts) did just that... I just want to go on record that I think it is ridiculous that this author (and many others) are splitting up one book essentially, into 4 parts and then calling it a series...Because it's not!!!!!!! Any whoooooo..

Happy Reading Ladies...

Obsessed: Part Two continues the saga between Ivy and Jax. After reading it, my first thought was poor Ivy. Can’t the girl ever get a break? If you read my review of the previous installment, you know that I have a few issues with Mr. Jax. He does manage to redeem himself a little in the second part of the story. Don’t get me wrong, he has major control issues, but he tries to be better. The chemistry between Ivy and Jax is palpable. They combust every time they are together. If it was up to chemistry alone, the two of them would live happily ever after never leaving a bed; but we all know that in fictional romance there are just too many complications for that to happen. I am still invested in this tale and can’t wait to read part three.

4.5 stars... Ugh!! Cliffhanger!! Some spoilers nothing specific... I knew it of course!! Just never seizes to amaze me that it seems so horrible like how the heck is he going to get out of this yet, it will happen. I really like Jax even though he hadn't been honest and started out being deceitful there's an realness to him that I believe. And I really like Ivy but she is kind of too trusting, too eager yet it comes off as a strength in the fact that everything's that has happened to her, all the betrayal she hasn't lost her hope and hasn't closed her heart. She's still willing to take a risk for the sake of love. Which I think is awesome, I hope she can still hold on to that. Finger crossed for her HEA.

Poor Ivy...she just can't catch a break. She finally lets her guard down and let's Jax in only to have him disappoint and break her yet again!!

My thoughts:

Quick hook or slow starter? 5 (jumped right in after book one)
Character development: 4
Level of Romance between characters: 4
Passion/Heat level: 4 (more hot scenes!)
Angst/Heartbreak: 4 (these two spend more time fighting in this one than they do together!)
Cliffhanger?: oh yes....it is a wtf moment for sure!!! On to book three!!

I am a fan of this series, can't wait to see how it all turns out!!

I was expecting so much more. I gave book 1 more stars than it deserved because I really wanted to give this series a chance but it came up short. There was never a moment in either book that wowed me. I'm still going to read book 3. Every once in a while there is that one book or series that you come across and even though it's not that great you still want to read it? This was one of those. It wasn't bad. I felt it needed just a little more. I've seen all the great reviews you guys did on this book and I don't doubt that you enjoyed it. Deborah Bladon has gotten my attention, I will certainly be reading more from her.

Ivy is killing me with this not wanting to hear anyone out thing. Every time someone wants to say something she doesn't want to hear she runs away to only come back and want to know when it's too late. Jax is good with his deception, I feel like he's playing her still to get something more than just the company. If Mark doesn't care about the shares then it has to be something more. I'm starting to wonder if Mark and Liz have a disease or something the way their appearance is so badly described. Either that or Jax is trying to get her knocked up and throw it in Marks face. Idk but I'm going to keep reading.

** Review for the series total can be found here: Still Obsessed **

I melted a little when Jax gave Ivy the pendant, symbolizing their love for each other:

"There are twenty-six stones now. Twenty-six sapphires."
"They're beautiful."
"I was born in September. Those sapphires represent the twenty-six years I had to live without you."

Ivy Marlow still struggles with all that still links her with her cheating ex fiancé. She wants to be able to manage on her own, but needs the support that Mark still provides. Only now another man is fighting to take his place in her life and her heart. Jax Walker is determined, controlling and obsessed. Ivy is all he's wanted since the first time he saw her. Now that he's had her nothing will stop him from making her his. But the past has a way of resurfacing, and when his is displayed in bright shinny colors, Ivy has only one option… The second installment of Ivy and Jax's story is intense, addictive and with a cliffhanger like no other. Deborah Bladon surely knows how to rock the boat!

The drama just got good!! Wow I was left with so many holes from book one, those are filled in and now I have new ones!! Wow after the bomb about Liz and Mark in book 1 and the secrecy of Jax in it I didn't think I could get sucked in more but by god I did. Now I'm left wanting all the gory details of Brooke and what will happen with Nathan. Just when Ivy thought she was back on track it all comes to a screeching halt at the end and I'm left with a horrible book hang over. MUST READ THIS SERIES.. REPEAT ONE CLICK NOW!!

I find the storyline a bit over the top. In my option, the fixation of Jax on Ivy is not believable. I guess I don't believe in love at first sight. Lust at first sight yes. I am not sure how you can fall in love with someone you don't even know. Jax does his research and he learns what he can on Ivy. He does surprise her. But..... I guess I am just a doubting Thomas......

Overall the storyline is good and there are twists and turns. The title is fitting but I get the willies with how Jax is almost stalkerish infatuated with Ivy.

Part two of Ivy and Jax's story.

For me there was less of a plot compared to part one and it was a shorter book than the first part. It was more as if we were waiting for the cliffhanger at the end.

When it comes to he characters we've gotten to know Ivy pretty well but Jax is still this great brooding mystery, I hope we learn more about him as the series continues.

I look forward to reading the rest of the series and finding out what happens next.

I enjoyed it just not as much as part one and for that reason I give it 3 stars!!!

3.5 stars. I actually enjoyed this one I think a little better than the first. Although Ivy lost a little of her edge she quickly took it back. I think in Book 3 she will find her inner bad ass. I want her take everyone who has deceived her and junk punch them. The ending has me pulling out my hair with the need for the next book. Something is up and I don't know if I want to kick Mark or Jax. Hell maybe even Ivy...

Omg!!! I've heard of cliffhangers but this is beyond anything I've read before. Thank God I have part three waiting. This story has everything! Amazing characters, steamy sex scenes, great dialogue and so much angst!!! I love Ivy and feel so much for her. I love Jax too even though he makes me angry at times. I know there is so much more to him and reasons for his obsessive behaviour. I'm rooting for him and Ivy! I can't wait to see how this will play out.
