Fatal Desire

Rate this book
Caleb is dark, hot, and commanding in human form. As a dragon, he’s a force to be reckoned with. When he witnesses the slave Lileta being beaten by his Overlord Odage, he nearly comes unglued. Without understanding why, he asks to take the slave as his own, but soon realizes his longing is more than an attraction to a beautiful woman. In a sick twist of fate, the gods have given him a demon as his mate—one he can never touch unless he wishes his own death. His only choice is to grant her freedom.

Lileta wanted to kill Caleb, but when she is freed by this tempting male, her anger turns to a desire that can only prove fatal. Even if she could claim him as her own, her dark past makes her unworthy of his love.

If you love Christine Feehan's Carpathian series then you will love Valerie Twombly's second book in the Guardian Series Fatal Desire. This book like the first had my full attention from beginning to end and I am still craving more. I love how it all flows and just keeps getting better with every flip of the page. I love all the character's and the way they harass and banter with each other. The author puts just enough humor and emotion into this book; made me laugh and get very frustrated with Lileta and Caleb. Complimentary copy provided by author for an honest review.

Caleb is a sexy shape shifting dragon whose mate happens to be the lovely demon slave, Lelita. The problem is that if they ever share bodily fluid, it will kill Caleb. These two characters spice up every page of the story.I found myself hurting for them and wanting them to be happy. Fatal Desire was a page turner that kept my attention from beginning to end. If you like paranormal erotica, you will really enjoy this story and if you liked Valerie's Twombly's first book Eternal Flame, then you definitely need to check out this one. Now we need to wait for the third book...there is a third book right?

This book picks up right where the previous installment left off. There's still a battle waging between certain factions of vampires called Guardians, whose job is to keep humans safe, and dragon shifters who used to work alongside vampires. A powerful demon's machinations has turned friend against friend in the next step in his plan to unleash Hell on Earth. The fight gets even more fast-paced and convoluted in this installment with numerous characters and storylines being juggled. Just when you think we've reached the end danger again rears its ugly head to put everyone in jeopardy in more pulse-pounding action scenes. Though this story does end on a happy note there's still a sense of foreboding that leaves a character we've come to care about in jeopardy and us waiting breathlessly for the next installment.

Along with a very busy overall storyline there's a delightful romance underway between two people not meant to be together as their blood is toxic to the other. Lileta was kidnapped when she was young and forced into slavery. She's a demon whose power was stripped from her which leaves her angry and waiting for death as her only hope of escape. The dragon shifter who claims her though gives her her life back which sets them on a rocky path to HEA as she rebels against his domineering ways. She's strong-willed and wants to fight back against those who hurt her but her unwanted Mate tries his best to keep her safe. Their relationship is full of witty and snarky banter that's laden with sexual tension. She ultimately wants him but doesn't want their loving to kill him. A secret about her parentage changes everything though and brings even more danger to the story in an unexpected twist.

Caleb is a strong-willed, sexy, and charming dragon shifter who's drawn to Lileta the moment he sees her and is shocked to discover she's his chosen Mate as her blood is toxic to him. He admires her and is willing to get closer to her regardless of the danger. He's had a lot of loss in his life and Lileta gives him a glimpse of a future with family and unending love if she's just willing to give them a chance. Caleb is an admirable hero willing to sacrifice everything for the woman he's come to love. He claims not to understand women but he does an incredible job of winning me over with his subtle romanticism. I also found his interactions with his brother Diego endearing and enjoyed the added sense of family depicted.

This book has a storyline with a lot going on, sometimes too much. There's a slew of characters that sometimes get confusing but they're all definitely unique as is the mythology. The romance between Caleb and Lileta is sexy after starting off with a slow burn and is intertwined nicely with the action and suspense. Ms. Twombly's Guardian series continues to entertain and though I'm sometimes unsure of what the endgame is, it's an intriguing and exciting journey worth taking and one lover's of the paranormal will especially enjoy.

~ 4.5 Fatal Stars ~

Wow! Valerie Twombly has me hooked on her Guardians series. So much is revealed and hinted at in Fatal Desire that I want to know (NOW) what happens next to all her characters. Fatal Desire starts off where Eternal Flame left us and Valerie did not give us a moment to catch our breath. We are put right back into the world of the Guardians and a war that is brewing.

Caleb, our crazy sexy dragon gets his mate in this one and he has his work cute out for him. I love dragon shifters and really loved learning more about the Draki in Fatal Desire. I'm hoping Caleb's brother and two closest friends get their own book too.

Lieta, a korthar demon as we learned in Eternal Flame has been a slave for many years. Her being mates to a dragon is not supposed to be possible, but Fate and the Gods are changing everything up.

Oh baby! The sexual desire and tension between Caleb and Leita was off the charts. Hawt! You connect to both characters and can't wait to see how things play out in and out of the bedroom. We also get a BIG (Yes I said BIG) surprise of information about Lieta and her family connections as well as other surprises I did not see coming. I really enjoy an author who can keep me on my tows and throw in some things I was not thinking could or should happen. It makes the story that much more enjoyable.

We also get to see more of the Guardians (Vampires) from Eternal Flame and their story's progress along. Ms. Twombly hints to who the next book might be about and I'm really looking forward to seeing how that story line progress. I loved seeing Marcus and Cassie's child born. It was a wonderful experience in the mist of so much destruction. Life goes on and the birth is a welcomed event for all. We also get to learn a little more about the Gods and the laws governing them and a new element is introduced a Phoenix (what type you will have to read). I can't wait to learn how this new element plays out.

Ms. Twombly has me hooked. I was glued to my chair until the very end. I enjoy all the new things brought to us as the plot thickens. I will most definitely be checking out the next book in this series. If you love a verity or paranormal creatures then you will enjoy the Guardians series.

This is book 2 of the Guardian series by author Valerie Twombly.

Caleb is a dark and broody dragon shifter and he follows orders from another evil overlord but when he sees Lileta being beat and whipped because she freed another Guardian dragon shifter, Marcus his body tells him that is his mate. Lileta is a demon who was taken many years ago and turned into a slave. Being beaten for letting Marcus go she is now given to Caleb to do whatever he wants with her.

Once I started reading this book I had to finish it it was that good of a read. I loved the female character Lileta because she just plays being bad but in her heart she is totally different. She sacrifices her mate to save his life and she is turned evil by her father. WOW what a turn of events is she dealing with.

Caleb and Lileta are soul mates but because of who she is he will die if he claims her, or so the story is told. But why would the Gods doom 2 people like this unless they have a plan for them to be truly together for eternity.

A must read for all paranormal romance lovers out there. Because of the sexual content this book is for over 17+ year old readers.

Vampire and paranormal lovers: attention please. If you enjoyed her the first in the Guardian Series, hang on for a great ride. This book picked up where Eternal Flame left off. The author continues to create such an intense world that I don't want to leave. The battle still rages between vampires and shifters. There is danger and action and plenty of steamy scenes. The forbidden love of Lileta and Caleb is delicious and exciting. I cannot wait for Book 3. Twombly really knows how to leave you satisfied yet anxiously waiting for more.

Dragon's Fate (Guardians #2) by Valerie Twombly

I purchased this book.
From the second I started this book I KNEW I was not going to be able to put it down. OMG the angst and stress of these two. I mean to be destined to someone who you can’t really have…..ANGST soooo hardcore!!
I loved and pitied Lileta in the last book. I wanted her to be reunited with her brother, Baal, after her freeing Marcus. She risked so much for the Guardian’s with no real hope of surviving. When I saw she was going to be mated with Caleb in this book I was excited because Caleb seemed like such a great character who was just following his friend …unfortunately his friend was not such a great guy to follow.
Caleb and Lileta are both drawn to each other but know there is no way the can consummate their relationship because of the kind of demon she is. But we all wonder WHY the Gods would be so cruel. As the story starts to unfold and we see the God’s explaining WHY this mating must happen …it was such a great read. The banter between the two characters was hilarious especially when they are pushing each other away. However, Caleb asking the Guardian’s for womanly advise was the best especially when Cassie stepped in to help. The history and backstory between the 2 characters and their families was amazing. At one point when one of their family lineages is told I was floored!!!
This book has soooo many twists and turns plus the set up for book 3 is started and I CAN NOT WAIT to dive in.

An enjoyable paranormal romance, Fatal Desire was a lovely read. It was't perfect, but I did like it and enjoy reading it.

Lileta was a good heroine. She was tough and determined to help keep her loved ones safe. Two issues with her: 1) she could be frustratingly stubborn and 2) since she was sold as basically a sex slave as a teenager, it seemed odd that she was mostly unaffected by it. It was mentioned a couple of times, but that was it. It just seemed to me that her experience would have had a greater effect on her life. Overall, though, she was okay.

Caleb, on the other hand, was just wonderful. He was so sweet and loyal to the people he cared about and just an overall amazing hero. He was amazing and I totally adored him.

The romance was lovely. I thought it was sweet how, despite the very high obstacles between them, Lileta and Caleb still fell in love. And, the chemistry between them was super hot. I thought they were a sweet couple.

I had a few more issues with the book. The biggest one was that the writing didn't flow right in many places and that made me keep focusing on the irregularities than the story itself. And, there were a few very minor annoyances that I had, barely even worth mentioning, but they still detracted from the book. Despite these issues, though, I still enjoyed the book.

The plot was well paced and I was kept interested the entire way through. There were a few unexpected turns along the way. I enjoyed the story and the ending was lovely, with the issue of the villain left open for future books.

Fatal Desire was an enjoyable paranormal romance. It had its issues, but I still liked it. Romance lovers, you might want to look this book up.

Fatal Desire: 4.5 stars I received a copy of this story in exchange for an honest review.

This story picks up right where Eternal Flame left off, and I recommend reading the books in order to fully understand the history and the war that is going on. We are taken to the dragon Caleb, who finds out he is destined to be the mate of a Kothar demon. Unfortunately, Kothar demon’s bodily fluids are rumored to be toxic to dragons, so they must fight their attraction or risk death. I had been previously unsure if Caleb was supposed to be a good guy or bad guy as it seemed his allegiance wavered, but the dragons eventually pick a side. Lileta is an admirable demon who was stolen for slavery as a girl. She has a mothering quality about her and she tries to rescue others when given the opportunity. The story is intriguing and held my attention. I was able to get through the story much faster than the first book, as I understood the world that was created a bit more. The visuals will make the scenes play as if you are in a movie and you will be on the edge of your seat as you turn the pages. Once you start, it’s hard to put down.

After reading the first book in this series, I was completely sucked in. I was eager to get my hands on this book and it didn't disappoint. I love the characters; their ability to overcome the odds and their loyalty to each other make the reader emotionally vested in the tale. She keeps adding in new facets to the existing characters and introducing new characters thus expanding their world. I also love the setting. It is rare to find an author that manages to create a world as rich as this. Combining reality with a fantasy realm and weaving them into one seamless world takes real talent. I also like the way the author leaves the reader set up for the next book. I will be impatiently waiting for the next installment so I can find out where fate takes them next.

I love how this story left off exactly where Eternal Flame had left off. Caleb, the dragon shifter, is wrapped up in a war that is brewing. One day, he sees Lileta, a demon, getting beat because she had let Marcus go. He knew that he had to be with her. This is so well written by Valerie Twombly that you can feel the sexual tension between the two of them. All paranormal fans take note, this is a must read for you! Congrats to Valerie Twombly for another hit. Now hurry up so I can see what happens next!!!

I’m going to preface this review letting you know this is one of my favorite authors, I have for the most part loved what I have read from this author. This book however or at least so far the two books in this series have just not captured me like the first series I read from her, Eternally Mated. That series I just loved the characters and the bond they all seemed to share. I think this series was released previously and has been edited and re-released. There are still a few paragraphs that make no sense and thoughts that seem to go nowhere. This series is also a lot darker, violent and gory than the other one.

Caleb saves Lileta before his master destroys her for her betrayal in the previous book. Her touch could mean death for Caleb, it still does not stop him from wanting her as his. Lileta is grateful for being spared but she is cautious as to the reasoning behind Caleb’s charity.

The push and pull is there, however they both act like adolescent school kids, they are shrewish and at times mean to each other for far too long. Then they spend most of the book apart so for me it’s hard to cement them as a loving couple when they only lusted after each other and had no real time to connect or form any bond when they are torn apart, back together briefly then torn apart again. Plus for me I am seeing way too much similarity between this series and her Eternally Mated Series. In my opinion this is a watered down version of that.

I do like some of the characters in the story, love when there are strong women that are very capable of taking care of themselves. Strong alpha men that want to protect their women but realize they have to let them fight their own battles all with the knowledge that if things go sideways she’s got his back to the end. That’s what has kept me reading this series, I’m just hoping that things start gelling a bit more and I get that lets weapons up and go kick some butt feeling soon, right now I’m not feeling totally assured of the team.

Caleb and Lileta

Just saying if you enjoy dragons and vampires then this book might be the story for you. You have Guardians that are dragons and you have vampires that seem to be the favorites of the Gods. In this story you will have the dragons and the vampires fighting amongst themselves and then you will have demons thrown into the mix that bring an extra kick to the storyline.

I do not want to give any spoilers in this review but let me just introduce you to two of the main characters that the story is based around and that is Caleb and Lileta. Caleb is a dragon who believes he is fighting to right a wrong and Lileta is a demon who was captured very young and she is a slave to Caleb&'s leader.

You will be introduced to gods and goddesses and less bring in Hades and a few other demons to spice up the storyline. Secrets will be revealed and a prophecy will come to the fore can these creatures handle all that they will face?

This is the second book in this series about vampires dragons and demons. This is a slightly gruesome bloody story so if that isn't for you may be best to leave it alone. Note this story is a stand alone you don't need to read book one though we did meet these characters in it

Lilete is about to be destroyed by her dragon master she is a demon that was captured and he won't forgive her for her betrayal. Caleb a dragon protector steps in to save her so begins a storyline between these two where they basically act like kids you now how at school you where mean to the guy/girl you rally fancied They act like this But this is much more serious one touch from Liete could mean the death of Caleb. There will be plenty of twists and turns before these two finally get their HEA

This is the second book in the series and the author does not disappoint. She once again brings strong characters in Caleb and Lileta and gives them a hot chemistry and steamy passion. She brings drama, action and the continuing battle between shifters and vampires. The supporting characters help to flow the story and bring it to life. I enjoyed reading and am looking forward to the next book. Highly recommend reading.

This is another fabulous addition to the "Guardian" Series. This book focuses on Caleb a dragon shifter and Lileta a demon that is a slave to Caleb's boss. I enjoyed Caleb and Lileta story, they were both well developed, complex characters and their chemistry was off the charts. The story was well written, with an engaging storyline and interesting secondary characters. The book had twists/turns, drama, intrigue, emotions and romance. I'm really loving this series and can't wait for the next book .

Demons are poisonous to dragons, extremely deadly. So a dragon finding his mate in a demon is all kinds of wrong and just not happening! But fate and destiny and the burn of intense attraction won't allow these two to escape their mate bond. For the goddess has deemed it so! But the demon Lord Lowan has other plans for Lileta, who turns out to be his daughter. Great storytelling. Can't wait for the next book!

This was a very enjoyable and intriguing shifter romance. Featuring a powerful storyline that very quickly captures and maintains your interest all throughout your reading. The characters of Caleb and Lileta are complex, compelling and very enticing. With drama that is pulling these two together and forces pulling them apart, your emotions are on a roller coaster ride of highs, lows, twists and turns. This is an excellent read for PNR fans! I am of my own accord posting a frank review.

She is a demon and touching her will kill. She is taken as a slave who.suffer a vital beating. He is a dragon and steps in to save her by taking her as his. Just one big problem the rates have determined they are mates. What can they do? They end up having to trust when a problem arises. Will they be able to mate? Will they solve the problems? See if they will

Caleb finds himself drawn to a slave & when Lileta is about to die, he steps in to keep her, after all demon's & dragon's don't mix. A constant fight between good and evil. Friends become enemies. And love ones will die. This story centers around Lileta and Caleb. The gods have made them mates. But to claim each other would mean his death. They will fight to stop a demon from finding his way into our world with the help of friends and family. Lots of action and fighting. Some twists that will turn things up a notch.
