Bacteria are the most common living things on earth and you carry them wherever you go. Most of them couldn't hurt a flea, but if conditions are just right, they can cause big problems!
Interesting and informative short book about dangerous Staph and Strep infections with the target audience of upper elementary and middle school students. Adults can also learn a great deal from this book. There were three real-life patient cases which made the subject more relatable. The pictures were good, sometimes quite graphic and well presented. Terminology and acronyms were explained well.
Easy to read book about strep and staph infections. Uses three real-life cases. It's in a scrapbook style where the pages look like notebooks or file folders with paperclips. Lots of photographs; some with a high "eew" factor. Great explanations of medical terminology, equipment, and procedures. Quiz in the back for those interested in a medical profession. interview with a doctor, and "dictionary" section in the back as well. From the "24/7 Science Behind the Scenes: Medical Files" collection. Rec for those interested in medicine, grades 4-8.
First, I like the collage style of the pages, very interesting as well as informative. This book talks about the dangerous and life-threatening staph and strep infections that the media tends to refer to as "flesh eating bacteria". It gives three actual cases and how they occured and the doctors who treated them. Very interesting book but warning - the pictures are not for the feint of heart. LOL
This book was really cool and it had a few stories of people who actually got these kind of infections. There are images that may be disturbing to some viewers, (there was one picture of someone's leg that had the bone showing). I don't think the images were disgusting at all. I expected actually grosser (is that even a word?) photos, but I understand that not everyone has a strong stomach to view such disturbing images. Recommended.
Great information on a strep and staph infections of the flesh! Made very interesting by graphic layout. Could work for a variety of ages. Love this series!
