This introductory textbook covers a broad scope of aspects to nursing research, from the initial inception of a research idea, down to the presentation of research findings in poster format. While the book is comprehensive in its coverage, some stages are not as thoroughly described. I was reading this book to learn about research and scholarship through the nursing lens. The nursing perspective was applied to some areas, such as the discussion of the different types of quantitative and qualitative studies, but it was missing in other chapters. Nevertheless, this is a very good introductory textbook on the topic, as it covers a broad range of areas. The gaps can be supplemented by other books or journal articles. The “Keeping it Ethical” section at the end of each chapter provides a much needed reminder for how ethics should be applied to each aspect of nursing research.

It provided a lot of excellent information on dissecting studies and determining their relevance or irrelevance, as well as providing a dearth of information on strategies for furthering ones career and conducting research/disseminating EBD.
That being said, while most of the textbook explains things at an extremely basic level, the explanation of statistics and statistical analysis was quite poor, and I would have greatly benefited from more thorough explanations and examples. Unfortunately, one doesn't get to choose their textbooks.

read this for my evidence based nursing class. I really enjoyed the first few chapters and then hit a wall that I had to drag myself over. I will not read this ever again if I can help it.
