During his formative years, he authored numerous short stories, his style shaped by classic science fiction literature. This selection of classics encompasses Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, and other notable works of literature, comics, and animation from that period. Jon’s involvement in a novel-writing challenge during 2021 served as the catalyst for the creation of the “Evolution Series.”
This compelling trilogy, commencing with “Downfall,” enraptures readers through its richly developed narrative and memorable characters.

Downfall is a fast-paced, compelling sci-fi with intense excitement and anticipation. The story flows through epic and unexpected twists and turns that echo with massive reverberation.


The story begins in the year 5254 in the Nelson Bio- Genetics Engineering and Augmentations Labs where Gracie, an Altrant human is awakened. She is then assigned to Admiral Charles Altherton as the replacement attache. As she becomes instrumental in the Admiral plan, she meets Kerry Vorcek who has entanglements with Altherton himself.


Upon the entrustment of a special mission, Gracie is rattled with the revelations and propelling truths which shakes her to the core. Things begin to shift rapidly and she finds herself ensnared and tortured. As she is reunited with Kerry, situations begin to favour her stance once again. However, it is easier said than done as perils and threats are converging on a chaotic embrace. Will they be able to survive it all? 


This was a great science fiction novel that explores the futuristic elements of surprises and intricate details to the themes of friendship, courage, trust, love, anticipation and survival. The interspace and Outer space Alliance were primarily focused and the way the author evaluates the action and consequences of the situation gives the reader an extraordinary reading experience. The narration pace was vividly engaging with fast moving events and the characters had intriguing personalities and potentials. The story does go on for more years and the second half of the novel amps up the crescendo of anticipation and emotions to a whole new level. The amalgamation of various forms of clashing galactic chaos with massive solid, elegantly conveyed world-building frankly makes this novel absolutely unputdownable! I cannot wait to read the next installment.


If you are looking for a well written and superbly drawn sci-fi novel that navigates like an exciting movie then this book is a perfect choice for that.

I recently read Downfall by Jonathan Walson, and it really touched me in ways I didn’t expect. The story follows Gracie, a brave woman who has been through a lot. She was made to be a soldier and trained for tough missions. But life didn’t treat her kindly, and people she trusted turned their backs on her. I connected with Gracie because, just like her, I’ve also faced moments when people I believed in let me down. Her fight to survive made me remember my own struggles and how important it is to keep moving forward.

The story’s world is built so well that I could picture every place Gracie went to. The labs, the battles, and the empty lands felt real to me. I liked how Admiral Charles Altherton treated Gracie with kindness and respect, even when others looked down on her. It reminded me of people in my life who stood by me when I was at my lowest. On the other hand, Captain Tarrant’s cruel nature made me angry, because it’s hard when you have to deal with unfair people in real life too.

I also loved the part where Gracie remembers Kerry, a man from her past she just can’t forget. It made me think about people from my own life who left a mark, even if they were only around for a short time. I kept hoping they would meet again, and that hope kept me turning the pages. The book is filled with action, twists, and heartfelt moments. I didn’t feel bored even once while reading it.

If you like stories about strong people who fight against the odds, you should definitely read Downfall. It’s not just a science fiction story — it’s about standing up when everything falls apart and finding yourself again. I truly enjoyed this book and would love to read more from Jonathan Walson. I think many people will feel connected to Gracie’s journey, just like I did.

From the very first line, the reader is thrown into a visceral, jarring awakening—one that mirrors the protagonist’s disorientation and sets the tone for the psychological and physical turmoil that will follow. Walson excels at putting readers directly into the moment, with haunting detail: the convulsions, the rawness of breath, and the disarray of the senses become a lived experience, not just words on a page. The narrative pacing is sharp, moving seamlessly from personal trauma to the broader chaos of life aboard a spaceship in crisis. The transitions between scenes are cinematic, especially as we move from the sterile cold of a medical recovery to the structured urgency of a command center. Gracie, as a character, stands out with her blend of professionalism and underlying emotional tension. Her command presence, her internal responses to Captain Tarrant’s arrogance, and her ability to maintain composure mark her as a compelling, layered lead. The main character of the story is Gracie, Altrant Human. She found herself waking up at Nelson Bioengineering and Augmentations. Gracie was guided by Admiral Charles Altherton and she embraces her mentor's influence. She introduced herself as Lieutenant Gracie of the Tactical Cruiser Ticonderoga of
the fourth fleet of Earth’s Navy to Captain Kerry.

Kerry was just a freighter captain and something about him piqued Gracie's interest. Even after months passed, Gracie couldn't get Kerry out of her mind. Charles told Gracie about the file that has the information on who she is and why. He instructed Gracie to open the file when she was safe and far away. Since Charles will be retiring soon, Gracie would be assigned to Captain Tarrant of Lockhart. She needs to protect herself now from the Altrant Recovery Bureau. After Charles' retirement, Gracie reported to Lockhart and dreaded working under Captain Tarrant. Gracie was told whoever has complained about Tarrant has disappeared or been sent to prison. Read this novel to find out what would happen next and if Gracie would reunite with Captain Kerry.

This is a unique story with a gripping plot. I appreciate the vivid imagination of the author in creating the fantasy world. The story is well paced and there are no dull moments in it. Gracie's character is my favorite from the story. The way she wasn't aware of her own reality and therefore walked on the path of self-discovery is amazing. Sci-fi stories fans should definitely get their hands on this book.
