This book totally caught me off guard; when I initially started reading, it was shocking until I started getting a feel for the style of how it's written. I may have gotten the original version since there are a fair amount of grammatical/spelling errors [total understand why after reading your response to another reviewer]. I was mostly interested in Mistro and the story line focused around his gang. Mimi was another character I cared about, I really hated what Trina did to her regarding ...more

This is my first read by this author and it will not be my last. My hand went over my mouth more than in once at the twists in the book. And I clutched my imaginary pearls a time or two at the raw delivery this author gave me as a reader.
I mean the book opens with one of the lead characters walking in on her man copulating with her parent. She was 12 yrs old mind you. This story touched on generational abuse in such a way that you felt every whip, every profane name, every tear and every ounce

What the hell am I reading?

I asked myself that question constantly while reading this book. Every single page had either a grammatical error, or a punctuation error. Its clear that this book received no editing before publication. I understand that editing services are expensive, but the amount of errors were very distracting and unprofessional.

The book itself was unapologetic in every way and I dont mean that as a good thing. Every character was problematic and with the exception of a couple,

Cry Baby Cry or Not is a stunning realistic novel about lifes choices and decisions. DeWandus Johnson, has a well written plot that shows us that sad but very real world that we live in. I found the characters to believably real and intriguing. This stunning book is a about a girl whose mother is born both blind and deaf and ends up pouring al her hate and anger at the world into her daughter. That is until her daughter cant take it anymore and decides to leave. The daughter is soon caught up in ...more

Cry Baby Cry or Not by DeWandus Johnson had me shaking in my boots in a matter of moments. I felt chills down my spine as I read. I love me some crime stories; however, this was a lot for me to handle. The first few paragraphs of the material, literally had me exclaim, wow! I had to read again to be sure I read that correctly. This material has everything from manslaughter, abuse, drugs, prostitution, women and child trafficking, sex; basically, any crime you can imagine.

The story surrounds a

Cry Baby Cry ...or not has everything in it that you are looking for in a Street Lit book and then some, there were several times I had to put this book down and just walk away, it bought back some painful memories that I had not thought about in a long time. I could relate to Trina and some of the stuff she went through. The story line flowed very well even though there was a lot of characters I was able to keep up. I can honestly say this was just a little to much for me and as much as I want ...more

There were so many things wrong with this story and I am not really sure why it has a 4 star rating. Not even considering the horrible grammar and spelling, this story has no real storyline. There are too many characters to keep track of, not enough focus on the plot, and way too much profanity and unnecessary sex, murder, etc. I do not recommend to anyone.

Very graphic. If this is the way gangs and blacks live in Chicago, no wonder there is a murder problem. I think the author has lived through this life style. I understand the need for slang in the dialog, but it needs some editing otherwise. There might be a sequel.

"Cry Baby Cry...or Not" by Dewandus Johnson

My Rationalization:

I will say this was my first read by this author and all I can say is this story was one that will keep your attention turning the pages to see what was coming next. There was 'never a dull moment from cover to cover.' My heart really went out to the main character Trina with her life spent with her mother

An Urban Smack

One word to sum up this novel: Wow! The story line is intriguing, easy to follow, as well as captivating. The story itself is mind boggling. The author tapped into the urban world with a twist one may find hard to grasp but oh so believable.

Author Dewandus Johnson takes readers on a nose-dive into a pool of realism through the eyes of a preteen adolescent starting with the perversion of her deaf and mute mother's man to the world of pimps, prostitutes and the game. Through the

After reading so many sub par books lately, this was a pleasant surprise. This book had lots of action and drama. I loved how every character's story was told and just when you thought you had everything figured out, here comes a new twist. The book was raw, gritty and in your face. Although there were a few editing issues, they did not take away from the story. I loved this book and can't wait for part two! Kudos to the author!
