I was given a copy of The Empress of Ireland by Jennifer Conner through Goodreads in exchange for my honest review.

How refreshing! This is the first book I have read in a while that was simply a pleasure to read. I easily read it in less than a day. Of coarse, books should be easy to read no matter how long they are right? I was concerned that it might be too short to be satisfying, but Jennifer Conner managed to satisfy my needs for a complete story.

The Empress of Ireland is the first book in

Laila Byrne is a restaurant chef who goes to Ireland for a vacation she doesnt really want to go on. Her first night there is a nightmare. It rains, the B&B is closed down, the waitress at a local pub forgets her order and she takes out her frustration on the pub owner. Thank goodness she did or she probably wouldnt have met Alasdair, the owner of the pub. He offers her a room and then she offers to cook for him when his chef quits the next day. Their attraction is mutual but all she w ...more

A refreshing contemporary romance set in a small Irish town. Spurred on by a friend, the Seattle-based leading lady takes a chance on life, and love, and travels to Ireland on vacation. It's short and sweet! The writing flows easily and the plot is delicious. Bonus: there's a recipe included at the end that's highlighted in the story. This novella is the first in a series and I look forward to the next one! A cozy romance recommended to and appropriate for any age of romance fans.

Lighthearted, Fun Read!
Once I picked up The Empress of Ireland I couldn't put it down. What a cute, romantic read! Laila and Alasdair stole my heart as did grandma Maire! Everyone should read this book and learn the lesson within! Worth the short time it will take you to read. Plus, if you like to cook, you get a little bonus at the end! I will look forward to reading Amy's story.

This was an enjoyable short story. I wish it had been longer. I would have enjoyed getting to know the characters more and see the relationship between Laila and Alasdair and I would have like to have known more about Gran, she seemed very spunky.

Details of the Empress of Ireland ship and it's sinking in Canada's St Lawrence added surprise Canadian interest to this romance read for St Valentine's challenge.

Cute, short Irish story. Wish it was a bit longer, but I enjoyed it.
