“I should have jumped at the promotion, of course.…Even as Jennifer the office manager sat in the chair across from me, all smiles and positive energy, I elided the two developments…What I did was worthless and yet the firm was eager for me to do more.”

The Promotion: A Novella is the deadpan cri de couer of a lawyer trapped inside a Kafkaesque firm, tasked with recruiting

Seeing as this is not my first encounter with Jacke Wilson’s work I knew that I was going to be taken on an incredible journey, and one way to really sell the book to you, is that since I read it on the long train from Stoke-On-Trent, to the glass city of Milton Keynes a couple of days back, I have not stopped thinking about this book. Questions stem from how I feel about it? The ending? The main character? What really happened? See, this is a book that makes the reader think. If you are looking ...more

The Promotion is entertaining and suspenseful. It kept me guessing what would happen next and I enjoyed the read. But the ending was confusing. There are segments to this story which feel disjointed from the book as a whole. I believed, as I read the book, everything would come together in the end. But it ended even more disjointed than it began. That does not mean it wasn't an enjoyable ride, but the ending was such a flop that I am left disappointed. I believe the author was going for this: Th ...more

The start is a little slow, but after picking it up tye second time I blew through this book and it was a page turner. The plot is okay. My buddy and I have something like a book club, and we had a great discuss talking about this story. So that should say something about the story.

The narrator is not especially likeable; he is hopeless and pathetic which adds to the humor. The story is full of irony, and there are some really funny parts. The dialogue along with the narrator's point of view is

Jacke Wilson is a lawyer, which is too bad, because I get nothing out his legal work, but I love his writing.

"The Promotion" tells the story of a hapless attorney who receives the dubious "promotion" to recruiting director at his firm. This promotion coincides with the narrator's descent into a nervous breakdown.

The great thing about Wilson's writing is his creation of character through intensity, depth, and consistency of voice. I just hope he stops wasting time drafting briefs, threatening tor

I won this through goodreads first reads. Thanks to them and the author for my copy of this book. Join the narrator as he searches for passion ? Or maybe purpose? Love ? Or maybe the mysterious Mina? I am still not sure, but that's okay because I thoroughly enjoyed the journey.I still do wonder why his face ended up covered in bandages but I guess you have to leave some things to the imagination. This novella is a fun way to spend a couple of hours.Recommended.

After Reading:
The suspense was good and the book turned out to be highly intriguing but unfortunately the end fell a bit flat.
