Women treasure the support, loyalty, and laughter found in their friendships--especially when they face the storms of life. Whether purchased as a gift or for oneself, Storm Sisters is a delightful journey on what it means to be a friend in all seasons of life.
Afton Rorvik is a Colorado native As s a teenager, she spent her allowance money to buy books about Colorado history, something she still loves to do.
She has published two non-fiction books for adults: Storm Sisters: Friends through All Seasons and Living Connected: An Introvert's Guide to Friendship. She has also worked as an editor for several decades.
Afton and her husband love to host family and friends around their table.
Afton Rorvik writes of her emotional ordeals while growing up but mostly about her grief while dealing with the sudden illness that took the life of her beloved mother. Storm Sisters: Friends through All Seasons offers insight into how to deal with grief and loss with the help of women friends, Storm Sisters, while using bible verses and bible study. The bible verses contain strong, and powerful messages from various devout believers of God, our savior. Other women, often wiser for having had survived much of the same kind of loss, can be a great source of comfort throughout one's life. Thank you Afton, for sharing your story.
This book was real, and raw but also so challenging and encouraging. A book about the power of being together, the way friendships are supposed to work. This will force you to contemplate who your storm sisters are and where you can grow in being one! just wonderful. Built around scripture this book is the real deal.
This was an awesome book to read during the COVID-19 pandemic. Highlights how we need “sisters” to help us get through the storms of life. I read this a chapter at a time on our online Bible study Facebook page. All of us ladies looked forward to the weekly chapter. It helped us to get through the quarantine and kept us connected when we needed each other most.
Written in a memoir style, the author talks about the women who were there for her and her mother when her mother faces a rapid decline into terminal illness. These sisters of the heart who were with her during her storm were called storm sisters. These are women who helped her through depression and grief.
I was touched by the authenticity and feeling of community that the author portrayed in her story. While it wasn't the book I expected (I was expecting more on how to be a storm sister), I liked the stories and the feeling of family that the author talked about having with her friends. She did give a few tips, but the book was more about dealing with storms as they come instead of how to be a storm sister. It's a book that I would recommend to anyone dealing with storms in their life, particularly the death of a loved one.
I received this book free of charge from Goodreads in exchange for my honest review.
I won this book for Goodreads and was really very pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. We all go thru storms and this one by the author shared her personal struggles along those of friends' lives. The book was meaningful to me as I lost my mom a few years ago- and found that the acts of kindness shown by others was wonderful support. this author took it a step further than just acknowledging the 'acts'- she was able to use them as biblical examples - and how 'storm sisters' are there for each other thru the 'storms of life'. I read the book in a day (it was short) and will for sure share it w/ my Christian friends; I think it would be a great book for a womens reading group to share and discuss.

Every woman needs a 'Storm Sister', or even better, a team of Storm Sisters in their life. Someone to laugh and cry with; someone to share the good times and the bad. Someone you can tell: "I can't do this myself. I need help." These words are so profound. It is a challenge to be a woman who is either that shoulder to cry on, or to have to admit that you need help because you are struggling under an unbearably heavy burden, that you can not shoulder it alone. 'Storm Sisters' shows us the importance of asking for help from friends AND God.
I won this book through Goodreads. I found it to be easy to read and inspirational for women who have been through the rough "storms" that life sometimes deals out. Thank the good Lord that most woman have the love and support of one or more 'Storm Sister' in their life be it through blood or of heart. I am lucky enough to have both. My 'blood' sister has been through more storms than the average woman and therefore I am passing this on to her and I hope that she enjoys it as well. Thank you for the opportunity to win this lovely book.
We've all been through the storms of life. What a comfort to know the One who quiets the winds and calms the raging seas - and sometimes uses our sisters-in-Christ to do it. In Storm Sisters, Afton Rorvik shares the wisdom she gained on her journey through a difficult storm, and introduces us to the godly women who supported her along the way. Full of depth and biblical comfort, this book is a must-read for all women. Because at some time or other we will all need, or need to be, a "storm sister."

A great book for anyone that is going through a hard time or is close to someone that is.
I love the concept and examples set in this book of ways to be a "storm sister" to others.I also believe this would be a good book to use in a women's small group, with the discussion questions provided in the back of the book.I won this book on Goodreads, and will do my best to continue the "storm sister" journey with others.
This book was a book that I think every woman should read if you have gone through trying times. I read it in one night. I would highly recommend this book. Has scriptures and questions to discuss or to fill out yourselves.
This is a great group study/help book, which brings women together to share and help each other to find God's way to help them through the storms of everyday life.
I really enjoyed this, it was a quick but spot-on, touching book. I'm blessed to have several "storm sisters" and look forward to sharing this book with them.
