Having a Catch: Leadership 60 Feet at a Time

Rate this book
Servant leadership isn’t a type or style. It is not how we lead; it is why we lead. It is also a skill that can be learned. We simply need to open our minds to loving those we lead through an agape form of love. An action we take. A choice we make.

Everyone is a leader to someone. Whether you are a parent, a coach, a teacher, a business manager, or a volunteer leader, you have influence in someone’s life. What if you could take tangible action to improve your influence and create real growth in those you influence? What if you could improve the way you lead through a true servant’s heart and learn new ways to meet their needs?

Having a Catch is a heartwarming story of Darin growing up playing a game he loved, learning true servant leadership concepts even though he wasn’t aware of that at the time. The story reflects on a relationship with his father, through a simple game played in the front yard that became a model of life, love, and leadership. Servant leadership can be found in the most unassuming moments of life if we are willing to look and Darin provides us tangible concepts for improving our influence and leadership through the lens of that ten-year old boy having a catch with his dad.

Just be willing to have a catch and then watch your leadership, and those you influence, thrive.

"This book challenges conventional norms and encourages us to recognize the myriad ways we influence and are influenced by others, often in the most unassuming moments of life." Dr. Julia Wiener, PhD – Executive, Leadership and Organizational Development

This book is not just a read; it can be a transformative journey for personal growth. It doesn't just provoke and encourage; it ignites a perspective shift that can change how you live. It's about embracing life fully and being consciously aware of the model you create for others. Larcell McGhee – Executive, Leadership and Organizational Development

This is a teaching book about leadership. There are simple to read lessons, in a step-by-step approach. The author used a unique way to give the reader an object lesson to remember the steps. As he teaches leadership, he also tells the story about his relationship with his dad, and their love of baseball. Their favorite pastime was 'having a catch' and during those times, his dad gently taught his son about baseball and other things in his life. I enjoyed the parallels between the story and the lessons that the author presented. I learned that true leadership is leading from behind with humility. This book is suitable for any age.
