Even a hard, seasoned homicide cop like Jason Coulter doesn't get used to dead bodies, especially when the corpses are pretty young women. He also doesn't get used to serial killers—the cruelty, the randomness, the one-in-a-million chance of catching the perpetrator But that's the case assigned to Jason and his partner, and they're combing Salt Lake City's biker underworld looking for a break. What Jason finds instead is Jennifer, a beautiful long-legged dancer who unexpectedly brings a prom-ise of love back into his life . until she, too, disappears. Fearful that she might end up the killer's next victim, Jason turns from a dutiful city cop to a man willing to risk his life and his badge to do what the law can't...
They are female, young, and they are targets. They are being kidnapped, raped, and murdered.
Detectives Jason Coulter and his partner know who the psychotic men are --- they are a pair of bikers, and their lawyer. But the detectives don’t have any tangible proof to hold anyone accountable.
But it turns personal when Coulter’s new girlfriend disappears, leaving behind her bloody car. A witness places a pick-up truck in the area … a truck that one of the bikers may own.
Jason becomes obsessed with hunting the bikers and lawyer down. But will he cross that line in order to get justice for his girlfriend? Taking revenge into his own hands makes him a very dangerous man on many levels.
I really liked Jason Coulter. What you see is what you get. He’s a dedicated cop, but wants the bad guys put away for good. He has a terrific sense of humor. This book originally was published in the 80s, so it’s a reminder of all those famous detectives from that era…. The men who were gung-ho, take no prisoners, and love ‘em and leave ‘em heroes.
Coulter’s partner, Dave, is a little more reserved, but then he’s married and his wife thinks that Coulter is a bad influence on her husband. The two men play off of each other quite well.
This is a well-written dark, gritty mystery.
Many thanks to Endeavor Press / NetGalley who provided a digital copy in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.
I bought the second book because it was one or two dollars. When I realized I had the second book, I wanted the first in case it helped to understand things in the second. The first was free through Prime, so well worth it. This takes place in Salt Lake City, Utah. Our hero isn't Mormon, but his partner is. I get the feeling the author may have been a cop because he shares so many inside details, we wouldn't know unless we did that sort of work. He falls in love with a woman and later she disappears. There is blood and he was working on a case where there may be a serial killer. He decides on his own who had to have killed his girlfriend and acts on this during vacation time he takes because of his girlfriend's death. From here, it gets crazy and I wonder if it could work this way. I believe this is his first book and it is obvious he has writing talent. I look forward to the second book.
This book is not what you expect....is it a romance, is it a police thriller, is it a serial killer book? There are quite a few twists here that keep you turning pages. I recommend this book.
This review was originally published on NetGalley.
I received this book before and I didn't read immediately, that a bad decision that was. I read this book in 4 days and highly enjoyed it.
The story of a detective and his partner setting out to hunt a group of three individuals that kidnap, rape and kill innocent young women. If they took someone you hold dear to you, would you put the law aside and make your own justice?
A very thrilling novel packed with action with the main character, Detective Jason Coulter running against time to find his girlfriend knowing that her fate is the same as all the other victims before her.
I have mixed feelings for the main character. It's very easy to slip into his shoes when it comes to the question of 'what would you do if it happened to you'. His determination, dedication and his willingness to go beyond the rules to make justice make him a fierce adversary. Those bad guys better watch out!
I liked seeing the partnership between Coulter and his partner Dave, specially because they are, in terms of character, different but still compliment each other very well. You can definitely see the friendship and the loyalty between them. Furthermore, I really enjoyed the humor in this book because it balances really well the very serious scenarios of the novel. I can definitely see the old-school humor and I absolutely loved it!
John Levitt did an amazing job! I definitely recommend this book specially for the fans of action-thriller novels!
Loved it!! The first thing that grabbed me about this book was the humor. I almost fell out of my chair laughing. Of course there are serious situations as well and I enjoyed those too. A well written, solid read. Action galore and hard to put down. I look forward to reading other books by this author. I definitely recommend this book.
