Thoreau Jones, 15, has had a terrible life since his older brother left Gray Shadows. His parents constantly remind him that it's his fault Emerson took off, just like it's his fault for being "retarded." If only his brain wasn't so broken, Mommy Daddy wouldn't have to "fix" him every day or keep him locked in a cage in the attic.
When his parents finally give up on him, they ship him off to Five Fangs with the warning that Emerson will either keep him or kill him. Thoreau knows his brother won't want him and can only hope that his death will be quick. However, it isn't death that awaits the sweet boy at Five Fangs, and the Moon Goddess has more blessings in store for him than he could have ever imagined…
I recently read all four books in the Thoreau series. These books are based alongside the original Five Fangs story, which I have already read multiple times having absolutely loved them! The Thoreau series is a werewolf-based story with multiple points of view, including chapters from the wolves' perspectives.
The books cover sensitive topics such as ASD, learning difficulties, childhood abuse, bullying, the death of a wolf, and the LGBTQI community.
The writing is incredibly well-done, and I couldn't put the books down, finishing them all within just two days. It was heartwarming to see the development of relationships between Thoreau and his best buddies, as well as witnessing Thoreau's transition into adulthood and seeing his feelings and love grow.
I highly recommend the entire series, but I recommend starting with the original Five Fangs series as it provides important background information that is further developed in the Thoreau books. In my opinion, this is a 5-star series for anyone who enjoys stories with fated mates and complex backgrounds.
How anyone could hurt such a gentle little thing no less his parents, blows my mind.
Reau is very direct and my gosh he comes out with the funniest one liners ever! I have so many highlights in this book from his little lines that made me laugh so much!
You need to read Posy to understand who the characters are but you will not be disappointed! These books are so easy to read and as someone who struggles reading long books let alone series, I found I didnt have that problem reading these books. I usually read so much then get bored and read another book, constantly going from book to book until they are finished but I was able to read these without being bored and changing books.
I re read the Posy/Five Fangs books and again, at the end I wanted to know how Thoreau’s story ended. So imagine my surprise to find these four books! I cannot wait.
To be fair, this covers the book(s) of Thoreau’s introduction- I’m glad we didn’t have to see too much of his time with Mommy Daddy and to find out about Ms. Marriott, a literal angel. I’m happy to have so many POVs like the original books and getting to see how the story looks from another angle.
If you liked the Posy books, these are almost exactly the same just new and more POVs from the secondary characters and one from Mason’s POV.
Mary Ann Weir is truly a one of a kind author. The minute I seen their was a book about Thoreau I really started crying from my soul bc that beautiful brilliant loving boy and both his wolves have been threw so much words can't even tough it. I'm so excited to see him grow and I just know fall in love ❤️ . If you haven't read poseys stories where we first meet reau please do so. On to the next book!! Thank you to Weir for writing stories about characters that make u feel so much!!!
I have read posey’s story many times and I saw that Thoreau has his own I was very excited. There’s no many details that I wondered about that I finally have my answer. I really connect with the characters and they’re individual stories. I look forward to book 2.
I absolutely adore Reau. He is such a phenomenal character and he definitely deserved his own series. Eventhough I knew much of what happened in book one from reading Posy's series, it still felt new because of all the new perspectives of the story. I am looking forward to continuing Reau's journey.
This story had you having feelings for everything, anger for Reau, sadness, laughter, and the laugh out loud scenes that made you fall in love with Reau over and over! It took me a while to want to read this novel, because I knew that my emotions would be present! But I’m so glad I started! Now on to book 2!
I love this book almost the same as I love Posy. Mary Ann Weir is one amazing and very talented author, always leaving her readers to wonder what’s next and wanting more. Thoreau is a marvelous book with an amazing story!!! I highly recommend this book!
I love everything this author has published. I somehow missed that she released Thoreau series. Let me tell you I jumped on this so fast. This first book was great. I can wait to read the rest of the series.
Its amazing seeing different pov from characters. This author books are really amazing, I am very excited for more. It is beautiful written and can t wait to see what else she will do
Absolutely fantastic, i would recommend this author and her books/series, I'm so glad we have a follow on series from Posey and her mates , I found both series by accident but haven't been disappointed and hope people will give these books a read too.....
Wonderful to see things from thoreau's point of view and his side of the Five Fangs Story line. As anticipated this book is just as great as the Posy series in the Five Fangs Novel series. 1000/10 will recommend.
This book coincides Luna Posy’s story and over laps other characters thoughts! Can’t wait to start the next one! It is so fun to learn more about Reau and watch him grow and be happy!
So glad there is a series on Thoreau! I couldn't put this book down once I started, highly recommended but make sure you read the Posy series first! So excited to read book two to see where his story goes!
Omg I love Reau. So sweet and innocent. I read Posy a million times and still love it. So I had to read this too. I'm glad i did. Can't wait to read Laser 2
A lovely spin-off of the Five Fangs series. Reau was a fantastic character in the prior series, and I thoroughly enjoyed the continuation of his story. While I wouldn’t say that this series as a whole was as strong as the prior series, it is still quite enjoyable.
This book was pretty good overall, but did start off with a truly horrible beginning. If you don't like reading about traumatic and abusive histories (and they do go into detail), then I would skip this book and series. It is about boy named Thoreau, who has been abused by his parents in ungodly conditions, for the past 4 years and how he escapes that life to be reunited with his brother, who is part of the Five Fangs pack. The book covers how he begins to make his recovery and how his life turns around and is now filled with so much love from so many different people. Thoreau also isn't a typical person, he's unique and his brain works differently from others. He has a lot of triggers and the people in his life need to learn the unique way that he views the world. His new life isn't without it's own set of issues and new challenges. But the people in his life now are so amazing and understanding and take the time to learn how to best support him, they overcome all the challenges together. Reau is also such a ray of sunshine and uniqueness, that it's hard for anyone not to love him when they meet him.
The book is written is many different POV's and you meet so many new characters in this book it can be a little confusing when reading. I don't usually like reading a story with so many POV's, but in this one, I really didn't hate it. I thought it added to the overall story and honestly made it better.
Reau is clearly not neurotypical, and I love that the author doesn't try and downplay that or magically fix it. Reau is who is he and the people in his life are accepting of that and love him for it. I was nervous the whole time because I thought someone would come along and make him feel badly about himself for how he is, but this book did a great job of highlighting how amazing he is and not his faults. They also don't hold him back or keep him from doing things because of how he is and are extremely patient with him. I will say, that because of who the character is, the reader can catch some secondhand embarrassment from different excerpts since Reau has a lot of unique names for different things and is extremely blunt. I also didn't love that Poppy (comes into the book later) called her lady bits her "bird." While you would expect something like that from Reau, it was weird coming from Poppy.
When we find out that Tanner has actually been killed and is later confirmed, I legit cried. I hadn't realized I was so invested in the story until then and it just broke my heart. And how Reau handled it was so amazing as well.
I thought this was a very unique book with an interesting storyline and I couldn't put the book down, then started the second book right away. You almost had to since the book ends on such a cliffhanger! I like that this book has their shifter side as a completely different entity from their person they're connected to, with their own personalities and persona. It's not usually how shifter relationships are described and I like this way almost more than the usual way. I will definitely be reading the entire series and I cannot wait to see what happens next.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This was a good book, but man this poor boy! I love him . I sincerely hope that he heals and thank god everyone around him is so patient and understanding and loving.
Very kind, will be starting the second book at some point today!
