It's a murder mystery with a twisted ending. The bonds of friendship are everlasting, and the jealousy between sisters can lead to murder. This story caught my attention when I saw that one of the characters was a model, and a bird helped solve this murder mystery. I went to modeling school and dreamed of becoming a model, but unfortunately, that didn't quite happen. For most of my life, I have owned a bird. Our last bird, Beba, passed away over a year ago. She was feisty and only liked one family member. As I read the story, I imagined Beba acting exactly like Clyde. I think having Clyde in the story made this story entertaining.

Tonya knows how to keep her readers on the edge of their seats. You won't see the twisted turn of events of who the murderer of Vanessa was. This story was so personal since Roxy's best friend was murdered. I felt terrible when Roxy found her poor friend dead. For those who aren't new to the series, know that Roxy will find the culprit at whatever cost. I had multiple suspects in mind, but I never saw that coming. I knew Adam was not to be trusted. Tonya's storytelling is superb; I love how detail-oriented her novels are. You feel like you are in the story. The characters helping Roxy figure out the murderer are strong characters that help push the story along. I enjoyed this cozy mystery with many hidden secrets and twists and turns.

Roxy Bloom's college roommate, Vanessa, is in Honey Springs for work. Vanessa is a model who has convinced the perfume company she is modeling for to do a photo shoot there. Roxy is excited to catch up with Vanessa, but she keeps sensing that Vanessa is keeping something from her. Unfortunately, before Roxy can get Vanessa to spill her secrets, she finds Vanessa unresponsive. Roxy vows to find out who did this to her friend.

This is a great series and this book is now one of my favorites. The storyline moves at a quick pace with plenty of surprises along the way. I loved getting a little glimpse into the past of Roxy and some of our beloved Honey Springs residents. Roxy is a wonderful protagonist; she is smart, caring, loyal, and has a strong sense of justice.

All thoughts and opinions are my own and have not been influenced by anyone.

The latest edition in the Killer Coffee Cozy Mystery Series is a delightful cozy. What made this one extra special for me was Clyde the parrot that was the featured pet in the Bean Hive Coffee Shop. One never knew what he would say as he is an excellent mimic and would repeat what others said.

As Roxy is trying to figure out who killed her college roommate who was in town for a perfume photo shoot. Unfortunately before she could share what was happening in her life with Roxy, she was killed. She had a number of secrets in her life and Roxy discovered many of them while investigating her death. Clyde helps with clues. There are so many twists with an unexpected outcome.

The characters in this series are wonderful and a number of them are quirky, especially several of the older characters.

I was fortunate to read an advanced copy of this enjoyable read. I’m looking forward to the next installment in this series.

This mystery was solved all because of a bird. 🦜
As it is with a lot of cozy mysteries, we were taken in several different directions as to who the killer was. If you’ve kept up with this entire series then you know Big Bib is most definitely not a killer! That’s all I’ll give away as far as spoilers.

Unfortunately someone dies who I wish wouldn’t have. It’s appears difficult when a beloved character gets rubbed out. Sigh. But Roxy was on it and determined to get to the bottom of it all.

There are recipes at the end including scones and croissants. Cool!

Next on my To Read list is Book 32 from Cindy Bell’s Dune House Cozy Mystery series: “Docks, Discoveries, and Danger.”

See you in my next review.
Deuces to your cabooses!

Roxy’s college roommate, now a famous model, is doing a photo shoot in Honey Springs. They plan on catching up with each other but when Roxy goes to visit Vanessa at the Airbnb, she finds her friend is dead. A cryptic clue is left on the bathroom mirror. Can Roxy figure out the meaning of the clue and solve her friends murder? There are plenty of suspects, between the different companies she modeled for. Was it a breach of contract or more personal. Clyde, the parrot currently at the Bean Hive, waiting to get adopted, provides an essential clue, that helps break the case. A really fun mystery with plenty of story lines with all the people at Honey Springs.

Spring

The story has a spring festival, murder, secrets, and betrayal. The mystery was interesting. I wasn't sure how it would end. I like when that happens. The coffee is always a fun part of these books. I look forward to that.

Honey Springs is the place of another murder. It is up to Roxy to figure out what happened and why. She just thought that she could keep out of it, but of course she has to be in the thick of things. She not only has to solve the mystery but also keep Patrick at bay. A good fun read.

Welcome back to the Bean Hive, Roxy Bloom Cane’s coffee shop and roastery in Honey Springs, Kentucky! When Roxy’s ex-husband broke her heart, she left the big city and the law firm they built. Her beloved Aunt Maxi still lived in Honey Springs, so she moved there. Roxy had many joyful childhood memories of her summers with Maxi, including meeting and suffering a huge crush on Patrick Cane.

Roxy’s business has been incredibly successful. She and Patrick met again as adults and now enjoy a very happy marriage. Roxy’s attorney certificate is still active, allowing her to practice law if one of her friends was in need. I appreciate her enthusiasm, her love of family, and how she pours herself first into her family and friends, then into the Bean Hive and mysteries.

Vanessa Hartman came to Honey Springs for a photo shoot. The location was her idea, as she loved the area ever since visiting with Roxy on a college break. The shoot is for a new ad campaign for an elegant perfume. Vanessa was Roxy’s best friend and roommate for their first two years of college. Roxy is thrilled to see her, and looks forward to when the beautiful model can carve time from her schedule for lots of girl talk. The first day they went to lunch, and were caught by the owner of the perfume company, who promptly and without kindness reminded Vanessa of their diet plan.

That evening, Roxy went to visit Vanessa. The door of her Airbnb was ajar, which wasn’t like Vanessa. When she didn’t respond to Roxy’s call, Roxy went inside. She was horrified to discover Vanessa lying dead on the bathroom floor. There was no obvious cause of death.

It was later revealed that Vanessa had been poisoned. Vanessa’s older sister called to hire Roxy on behalf of their family. When the coroner shared an explosive secret Vanessa had held, it opened a door that nobody was prepared to investigate. They all want justice for Vanessa, and Roxy’s experience as an attorney and a citizen helping solve murders in the idyllic town is a vital asset.

The people in town would help her as much as they could, especially Aunt Maxi and Roxy’s early morning assistant, Bunny. This time, she has quite an unusual if not unwelcome helper.

Roxy helps the local animal shelter find fur-ever families for the pets ready to be adopted. She features the pet at the Bean Hive and meet potential adopters. Her current featured pet is Clyde, a brilliantly-colored parrot with the vocabulary of a sailor. Clyde hears everything, and learns words and phrases quickly. When he began to repeatedly call the name of one of her suspects, Roxy followed up on his lead! Clyde now has a colorful, custom-made coffee roast named after him.

Roxy turned over every possible rock to find her friend’s killer, even at the offense of a long-time favorite Honey Springs resident. The sheriff was having little success despite all of his sources and information. Roxy considered and rejected several potential suspects. It finally took one little clue and a huge, unexpected plot twist to reveal the true killer. Now Roxy needs to find someone to adopt the feathered wannabe detective… The resolutions to this novel were fully satisfying, and I highly recommend this and the other Southern cozy mysteries in this coffee paradise!

From a thankful heart: I read and voluntarily reviewed a prepublication copy of this novel, and this is my honest review.

Review:

The characters are well rounded and well developed. When Roxy’s old college roommate comes to see her, Roxi is very happy. But her happiness turns to horror when Vanessa is murdered. Now Roxy will have to figure out who killed her and why. But it will not be easy.

The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and these descriptions pulled me into the story from the very beginning. The writing style flows smoothly and there are enough suspects to consider and clues to sift through. The mystery is well plotted and not easily solved.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. I was very happy to read this book, it was great.

In Steamed Secrets, Tonya Kappes delivers the perfect blend of small-town charm, cozy mystery, and a dash of romance, all wrapped up in a steaming cup of intrigue. The story follows Roxy Bloom, a former high-powered lawyer who leaves behind the grind of city life to run a coffee shop in her picturesque hometown of Honey Springs. Life is supposed to be simple now, but when a mysterious murder shakes the town, Roxy can’t resist diving into the mystery—even though it may pull her back into a world of trouble she’d hoped to leave behind.

The plot is engaging from start to finish, with plenty of twists and turns to keep readers on their toes. Roxy’s investigation into the death of Vanessa Hartman, a model with a lot of secrets, brings her into a web of jealous rivals, tangled relationships, and buried lies. The small-town setting is richly portrayed, and the quirky, loveable characters add a lot of flavor to the story—especially Roxy’s rescue pup, Pepper, and Patrick Cane, the swoon-worthy man who’s always there with support and kisses.

What makes Steamed Secrets shine is Kappes’ ability to balance the mystery with heartwarming moments. Roxy’s witty, determined personality keeps things light even when the investigation heats up. Her relationship with Patrick provides a sweet layer of romance that adds a little extra sweetness to the suspense. And let’s not forget the quirky suspects, including a squawking parrot, who add just the right amount of fun to the mystery.

The writing is breezy and easy to follow, with Kappes weaving in enough tension and surprises to keep the pages turning. The Southern charm of Honey Springs gives the novel a cozy atmosphere that makes it perfect for fans of small-town mysteries.

Whether you’re in the mood for a fun, engaging mystery or a sweet romance, Steamed Secrets has it all. With its delightful cast of characters, gripping plot, and the right mix of sass and sweetness, this book will keep you hooked until the last page. If you’re looking for a cozy mystery that offers both intrigue and heart, Steamed Secrets is an excellent choice.

Roxy Bloom is loving her life as a barista in her charming hometown of Honey Springs, and she’s so surprised and excited to see her former college roommate, Vanessa Hartman, in town. Vanessa is a model and is in town for a shoot. As good as it is to visit with Vanessa, Roxy feels like Vanessa is holding something back. Before Roxy can discover what’s going on, Vanessa is murdered. Roxy is determined to uncover the truth and serve justice in Vanessa's memory.

What a page-turning mystery that I read in a day and a half. I adore Roxy as a main character – she’s determined and brave and fiercely loyal to her friends and loved ones. I thought I had the mystery all figured out, but the twists just kept coming, and I found myself quickly turning pages so I could find the true culprit. I could easily visualize the murder board in the back of the cafe, and I thoroughly enjoyed watching Roxy put all the pieces together. Of course no spoilers here, but the ending is pretty jaw-dropping!

The story is full of wonderful side-characters as well, both human and animal! I wished I could reach through the pages to pet Roxy’s rescue pup Pepper. Although Clyde the squawking parrot up for adoption came in a close second to favorite characters. He sure had me chuckling at times!

As always with Tonya’s writing, it’s the cozy details in addition to the marvelous mysteries that I just adore. I could easily picture the town, the cafe and each character. The vivid descriptions made me feel like I was right there with Roxy. I could easily sink into the story and place, which makes for a most wonderful bookish escape.

Highly recommend this delightful, five star Southern cozy mystery!

Although this novel is #16 in a series, the author gives the reader enough background so that it can be read on its own. I am usually a little OCD about reading series out of order, but I got over that and absolutely loved the story.
Roxy lives in the small town of Honey Springs, Kentucky and owns a coffee shop called the Bean Hive. she left the big city and being a lawyer after her now ex-husband broke her heart. She chose Honey Springs because she spent many wonderful summers there with her Aunt Maxi. During those summers she developed a huge crush on Patrick Cane. When they meet up as adults, the magic between them is still there and they marry.
Roxy is excited to catch up with her college roommate Vanessa who is now a model. Vanessa has come to town for a photo shoot. When Roxy goes to the B&B where Vanessa is staying she finds Vanessa is dead. She is determined to help find the killer. She's helped law enforcement in the past.
Roxy displays animals who need homes at her cafe'. The current pet is Clyde, a colorful parrot who has a very colorful vocabulary. Clyde sees and hears all that goes on at the Bean Hive. Will be able to help solve the mystery?
I will go back and catch up on this series and others by the incredible author, Tonya Kappes. This novel gave me a break from everyday life and made me laugh a little. Thanks to Tonya for providing me this book. I highly recommend STEAMED SECRETS and all the other delightful series.

Steamed Secrets is another entertaining installment in Kappes' killer coffee cozy mystery series. Roxy is excited when her old college roommate, Vanessa, comes to Honey Springs for a modeling job. It feels like old times for Roxy at first, but then Roxy becomes concerned when Vanessa seems to be holding something back. Determined to make the most of this time, Roxy is horrified when things take a chilling turn, and she ends up with another murder mystery to solve. This mystery really hits close to home for Roxy which is why she is so determined to get answers fast.

Kappes sets up an entertaining read that really proves a challenge for Roxy. It was nice to see some glimpses into Roxy's past as she tries to uncover the secrets her old friend has been hiding. Having this case hit so close to home made it more of a challenge for Roxy. I also loved seeing all of my favorite secondary characters back as well since they really add to the story. The book's mystery is well done full of enough twists and turns to keep the reader's interest. Overall Steamed Secrets proved to be an entertaining read that I would most definitely recommend. I look forward to reading Roxy's next adventure.

Steamed Secrets is the sixteenth cozy mystery in the Killer Coffee series. Roxy runs the Bee Hive Coffeehouse and has her finger in all of the gossip in town. An ad campaign shoot for a popular perfume brand brings her college room mate to town and Roxy is excited to catch up with Vanessa. All is going fine until Vanessa turns up murdered. Amateur sleuth that she is, Roxy starts to investigate, determined to get to the bottom of what happened to her friend.

I have read most of this series and always find it an enjoyable escape, this book was no different. I love the life that Roxy has set up and the atmosphere on her coffee shop. Roxy is a fun sleuth to follow along with and I enjoyed getting to have a glimpse into her past and her friendship with Vanessa. The mystery was fast paced and easy to read while also keeping me guessing until the end on how everything fit together. I enjoyed the twists and turns that kept me on my toes. If you are a cozy mystery fan this is a good book to check out. The books don’t need to be read in order to enjoy the mystery, you just miss out on some background info. I can’t wait to see what comes next for Roxy!

Another incredible addition to the Killer Coffee Mystery series! Roxy Bloom gave up her legal career in the city to move to Honey Springs, Kentucky and open her cozy coffee shop, the Bean Hive. This book brings her college roommate, Vanessa who is now a well known model to Honey Springs for a photo shoot. Roxy is thriller to reunite with her friend, but senses something is wrong. Feeling Vanessa will confide in her later, they arrange to meet up. But finding Vanessa dead, of course Roxy will investigate even though Vanessa's sister wants her to look into it too. When Clyde, a verbal parrot from the rescue is brought into the cafe to show him to potential adopters. While investigating, she stumbles upon many secrets, including one shocking one and quite a few potential suspects. Then we have some characters back like the bossy, know it all Loretta and Aunt Maxi and who can forget, the adorable Pepper. I love this series and couldn't put this book down. It is a great addition to the series and can't believe that this is the 16th book. I highly recommend this entire series. I received an ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

There is so much to love about Steamed Secrets! The setting is charming, the characters are a hoot, and the mystery kept me guessing until the end.

Steamed Secrets is the 16th book in the Killer Coffee Cozy Mystery series by Tonya Kappes.

The series is set in Honey Springs, Kentucky. The sleuth is Roxy Bloom, a lawyer turned barista. Roxy runs the Bean Hive, where locals meet for coffee and comfort food, all while sharing hot gossip.

Setting:

The cozy town of Honey Springs is the perfect setting for a Southern mystery! It is cute, quaint, and filled with quirky characters. The streets are picturesque and lined with shops that I want to go in for real—from the Crooked Cat Bookstore to the beloved Bean Hive.

The Bean Hive might just be the coziest coffee shop in the cozy world. I want to sink into the book. And I don't even like coffee.

Characters:

Roxy is a great sleuth. She is kind, earnest, and principled. She wants to see justice served. When trouble brews, she doesn't hesitate to step up, help the police, and protect her community.

The supporting characters in Steamed Secrets complement Roxy and add to the fun. Aunt Maxi is lovable. Loretta is hilarious. And Pepper is super cute. Clyde, the parrot, was particularly brilliant in this installment and created a few laugh-out-loud moments.

Mystery:

Steamed Secrets is a fantastic whodunnit. The mystery begins when Roxy's old college pal Vanessa (now a glamorous model) comes to town for a photoshoot. It is immediately clear that Vanessa has secrets. Big secrets.

The mystery deepens when a puzzling murder occurs. Roxy is drawn into the case and investigates until she finds out what everyone is hiding.

Disclaimer: I received an advanced reader copy. It did not influence my opinion. I genuinely liked the book.

I just love this series and this fictional town with its colorful characters, that this author has invented for us. From the Bean Hive Coffee Shop to the The Crooked Cat Book Store, everything about Honey Springs is inviting. That is until a dead body shows up.

Roxy Bloom is an attorney who now runs the Bean Hive Coffee Shop. She is also an amateur sleuth who does not know the meaning of the words "butt out" when there is a mystery to be solved. Roxy is one of my favorite protagonists. She is super smart, funny and loves others. She is a pretty darn good amateur detective as well. And, of course, she also makes a mean cup of joe.

The twists, turn and revelations make this a fun book to read with a lively, loveable cast of characters and a great mystery to solve. You can never go wrong with the Killer Coffee Mystery series.

Thank you to the author for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

A must read from the talented author, Tonya Kappes. The reader is warmly welcomed into the coffee shop, Bean Hive.
This coffee shop is owned by the lawyer turned barista, Roxy Bloom in the town of Honey Springs. Roxy has a real talent for creating wonderful blends of coffee and a charming place to hang out. A dear former college friend, a model comes to stay in Honey Springs for a photo shoot. Vanessa Hartman, the model, was in town representing a high-end fragrance company. Roxy senses something is going on with Vanessa. This Vanessa was not the same person that Roxy remembered. Reading a person's body language is one of Roxy's strengths. Later, Vanessa turns up murdered. Roxy makes it her job to find out who would do such a thing to her former college roommate. There are many twists and turns that take place in this cozy mystery. It even has a surprise ending. This cozy mystery is a must read from start to finish.

This is the 16th book in this cozy mystery series; I’ve read and loved them all, but this one can stand on its own surprisingly well. Roxie is a fabulous main character—a lawyer turned coffee shop owner/barista/amateur sleuth on the side. She’s surrounded by a great variety of secondary characters too. In this book, Roxie’s old college roommate, Vanessa, now a successful model, has come to Honey Springs to do a photo shoot for a perfume company—she used to visit the town and suggested it as the picture-perfect place. Unfortunately, a death occurs, and Roxie is not only eager to investigate, but she has the sheriff’s blessing. The mystery is very creative and was fun to solve. There were plenty of suspects, but I was surprised I was able to solve it about the time Roxie did. It’s an excellent book and I highly recommend it and the series; I was provided an ARC, which I appreciate, but these opinions are my own.

Even worse, Roxy learns as she begins to piece the puzzle left behind, Vanessa was pregnant. As Roxy, her hubby Patrick’s, aunt Maxi, schnauzer Pepper, Bean Hive support Bunny, Big Bib, and the hilarious colorful support cast of regulars who always pitch in through the series help out to solve their mysteries pull together to solve the final clues and Roxy finds the shocker piece that reveals the villain and it IS a shocking reveal (that makes the series so memorable and worthwhile) - wow!!!! That is why I read the books. It makes a powerful completion and resolve and an absolutely worthwhile read

Roxy Bloom is back in Steamed Secrets. Roxy's glamorous college roommate, Vanessa, shows up out of the blue in Honey Springs after at least 15 years. Vanessa, now a big-time model and the face of a new perfume campaign, helped choose Honey Springs as the shoot location. Roxy is excited but senses that there are other reasons Vanessa has come to Honey Springs, and she makes it her mission to figure out what is really going on. Unfortunately, Vanessa doesn’t live long enough to tell her, and it appears to be a murder with a secret message left behind in the style they used back in college. Vanessa might also have a history with Honey Springs that doesn’t involve Roxy, unbeknownst to her. There are twists and turns in this story that will have you turning the pages at lightning speed to find the answer to this whodunit. Another great story from Tonya Kappes!

I love Roxy’s coffee shop, I wish there was one just like it where I live. And hers is extra special with all her friends and family around her - even Low-retta. Sitting in the coffee shop smelling the fresh ground coffee and fresh baked goodies would be heaven. And with Roxy always making new blends it would definitely be heaven.

Spring in Honey Springs sounds so beautiful and I can smell the flowers and lake, hear the lake lapping at the dock along with the early morning sounds before people drown out the birds.

This time the murder really hit home for poor Roxy and some of her friends. But as usual Patrick and the rest had Roxy’s back in all of it. I really was blown away when I realized who the murderer was, I mean that would totally the last person I would have suspected.
Great book - can’t wait for the next one.

Roxy Bloom is at it again! Something is strange brewing in Honey Springs when her old college friend shows up after 15 years for an advertising campaign. When said friend ends up dead, an apparent suicide, Roxy has to have answers. Her questions though reveal conflicting stories, nothing is as it seems and one clue after another fizzles out. But leave it to Roxy, with the help of the garrulous parrot Clyde, to get to the truth.

Roxy is such a great character! And her coffee shop is the perfect venue for all the Honey Springs residents that populate this cozy mystery series to mingle and meddle. You can always count on Ms. Kappes to deliver a story that will hold your interest to the last page. And the recipes are a fun bonus!

Roxy and her friends have quite a murder to solve in Steamed Secrets, the latest mystery set in Honey Springs by the incomparable Tonya Kappes. When Vanessa, Roxy’s college roommate, visits Honey Springs, Roxy is excited to catch up and see what Vanessa has been up to over the last several years. Vanessa, now a big-time model and the face of a new perfume campaign, helped choose Honey Springs as the shoot location. Unfortunately, something terrible soon befalls Vanessa and it’s up to Roxy to discern who may have wanted Vanessa dead and track down the clues to which one of her suspects is the killer. Between the secret message left beside Vanessa’s body and the fact that Vanessa had a backstory involving Honey Springs that didn’t involve Roxy, there’s much to unpack in Steamed Secrets.

I love this series set in the Bean Hive Coffee Shop in Honey Springs. It not only serves up so many types of coffees and goodies but it is always good for finding a murder mystery to solve. Roxie, the owner/barista/baker does not disappoint in this twisty turny tale that involves mystery, a dead model who happens to be her old college roommate, some fun and some shady characters, and plenty of fun, unanswered questions and mischief...chock full of laugh-out-loud moments all packed into a well-told story with a satisfying ending. You'll think you know who did it, but you'll certainly be surprised when the truth is revealed. I highly recommend this book and series.
P.S. Well-developed backstory allows this to be read as a stand-alone if this series is new to you.

It’s Springtime in Honey Springs and the Boardwalk is picture perfect, but when Roxy gets an unexpected visit from her college roommate she can tell something just doesn’t feel right.
Steamed Secrets is full of southern charm and sweet friendships. Every time I read an installment in A Killer Coffee Mystery it makes me wish I lived in Honey Springs and worked at the Bean Hive! Once I picked up the book I did not want to put it down! It definitely had a surprise ending I did not see coming!! I highly recommend checking this one out. This is one of my favorite series by Tonya Kappes. She never disappoints!

Roxy is one of my favorite characters! A former attorney, she walked away from it to become a coffee shop owner. Somehow, she always manages to get drawn into murder investigations! When her former college roommate comes to town, her excitement is crushed when she finds her dead the next day! She is desperate to find the killer and bring her justice. Can she find the killer before it's too late? As always, her two dogs are in the spotlight and this time they have to share the spotlight with a mouthy parrot looking for a forever home! Get ready for a story filled with twists and an ending you won't see coming!

It’s springtime in the small town Honey Springs, Kentucky. Roxy owns Bean Hive Coffee Cafe and serves the best coffee in town. She also has a nice partnership with the local shelter to help find fur-ever homes pets by having one in her shop for potential adopters to meet. Clyde is the pet in this book, a very talkative parrot who repeats almost everything he hears.
Roxy’s college roommate comes to town for a photo shoot and is hiding a big secret. Before Roxy can find out what the secret is, her friend turns up dead. Great cozy mystery with plenty twists, turns, suspects, and a bird who helps reveal the truth.
