GIDEON

We live in a cruel world. I run my company in a way to ensure that it survives in said world. My employees know where the door is if that's too much for them.
At least, I thought it was that simple.
Now, here I am, on the verge of losing my job, engaged to a woman who drives me up the wall all because my assistant can't keep her mouth shut.
Just great.

ARTEMIS

I'm more than aware that this world isn't all sunshine and roses. That doesn't stop me from making sure that I treat others with basic kindness and respect. Sadly, the same can't be said or given to my boss's boss's boss's boss.
He seems to be under the impression that the world is one big fire and we all need to learn to walk in the flames if we want to survive.
And now, thanks to my stupid kindness and his ignorant outlook on life, here I stand ready to say my wedding vows to a man I want to punch. Just punch...I think.
Just peachy.

Started it in the evening and finished it in the morning. I did not sleep. 10/10. So good so cute. loved the feels loved the story loved the writing. For me, romance can feel like an easy genre for any author to get a quick successful book as long as they use booktok buzz works and I feel like there is too much saturation of bad books being pushed. This one was impeccable because the writing was INCREDIBLE. I mean it. I didn't feel like another story. It had a unique writing style

Really fun debut I will say there was some language around asd and race that was not well delivered and comes off as a bit ableist and ignorant, but I think the themes were really great and the engagement with anxiety and mental health was interesting.

Debut Novel, You Say?!??!

MANNNNN…..This book is just wow! I wasn’t even halfway finished with the book before starting to see if this author had written something else. I loved these two. I will say there is a curiosity about Aaron lingering. Still wondering what Artemis saw in him. Loved the relationship Gideon had with his autistic brother in-law. Thank you for pointing out autism does not equal dependency. I’m also curious about Sarah and Caleb. I couldn’t put this book down. Congratulations on a major hit!

I really enjoyed this book. A good debut novel. Knocked off some points because there were some unresolved issues character development for the MMC was not as smooth. It would also have been nice if the author had shed more light on how their parents abuses them and how that led to who they are and not just vague references and for the MCs to actually open up to each other about it.

Love story that makes my heart swell

Your first novel hit it out of the ballpark. I was sucked in from the jump. I couldn't put it down until I finished it. So much love could be felt in every word that I'm jealous that I don't have a Gideon of my own. And Artemis is a bad ass who doesn't know it, making me feel like it was a little too close to home. I loved all of the family members and I hope that you decide to make this a series and give us the love stories of Caleb, Aaron, Eddie, Leo and the Henderson brothers.
You are a fantastic weaver of stories Athena, keep doing what you love!

I absolutely LOVE this book, I refuse to believe this is this author’s debut novel!

Gideon and Artemis are my new favorite fictional couple, the way that he fell so hard for her while trying not to, the way this book was paced and written 10s across the board. I fell in love with all the characters (that we were supposed to👀).

I truly have not fell into a book as easily and quickly as I did this one in a long long time so it was just amazing.

🥰🥰🥰🥰 Glad I gave it a try

This was not what I thought it would be. It was so much deeper. Gideon was a complicated guy and it was interesting getting to know all about him. I loved Artemis’s relationship with her brother. It was an unconventional love story

Read if you’d like: workplace romance, marriage of convenience, CEO x Employee, he falls first, he falls harder, no third act breakup, reformed CEO, billionaire romance, autism rep, mental health rep, slow burn, push and pull, family drama

Both Gideon and Artemis are stubborn, determined and strong characters. I love how they bicker and never agree on things. Unfortunately, they both come from families with lots of drama - I literally couldn’t decide who had the shittier parent 😭😭

Their chemistry was HOT 🥵 the way Athena Carstairs writes was making me blush 🤭 but oh my god was this book such a SLOOOOW burn (in reality it’s not as it’s over a few months 😂), the tension built up like crazy and I was dying over the nicknames!!

I did feel that the book was too long at times, and some scenes were dragged out. But the marriage of convenience trope with “my wife” had me looking past this, I was too busy squealing over Gideon’s character growth and how protective he became

I thought this was a great debut novel, and I’m hoping that Caleb/Sarah gets a book ❤️

Thank you so much Athena Carstairs for this ARC, all opinions are my own

5*

1st person dual POV.

I love the side characters in this and the dynamic they add. Psy is my favourite, and I can't wait to read his book but also just see him with his other siblings in their books.

I really enjoyed the banter in the book. Between Gideon and his brother Caleb, his dad, his secretary Sarah - she really gave me jokes - and Artemis.

I love Gideons grumpy attitude that gets better throughout the book. He is a sweetheart deep down.

I also can't wait for Caleb book, I think their romance is going to be fire. And the banter...can't wait.

good but frustrating 3.5 stars (contains spoilers)

The book had the potential of being a very good book, unfortunately it stayed at surface level too much and the ending was disappointing.
Artemis was the better fleshed out character, however a bit more background would have helped the story. For instance, a few examples of how she became so timid and also so protective of her brother Psy as these were supposed to be core characteristics of hers. How was it to grow up a mixed race quintuplet in New York City?
As for Gideon is wasn’t fletched out enough either. First obvious thing, how was it to grow up with gay parents 30 years ago? Secondly we hear a lot about Conrad cruelty with no examples. His parents divorced when he was 13 then what happened ? How exactly did his twin Aaron broke his trust? And a key question why is he a quasi 30 year old virgin ? It’s highly unusual so was there trauma there?
As for the ending, it was far too hallmark movie and unrealistic. Why did Gideon have to give up his job to his wife who is completely unqualified for it? Because of compassion ? It read un serious and ruined it for me.

Honestly, 3.5.

I really did love this book. It had all of the elements of a true 5 star read. I thought sure it would be.

Possible spoilers.. ?

My main issue with the book was the pacing. There might have been too much back and forth, considering this book is almost 500 pages and the main characters don't even tell each other how they feel about each other until ~95%.

Also I loved how complex these characters were. They had both been through a lot. I just wish the author spent more time detailing the past of these two characters rather than glossing over or hinting at what happened to make them the way they are. It was all just a little too surface level for me.

Less back and forth and more detailed back stories of these characters and this would've been a five star read for me.

This was a really cute book and I enjoyed it. I’m a sucker for a fake marriage. At first I didn’t like Gideon because of the way he treated her and how he thought of his employees, but I’m glad Artemis was able to help him realized that mental health matters. I wish their past was more talked about especially the relationship between Gideon and his twin brother. I wanted to know more and why they drifted away we got a little bit, but I wanted to know more. I’m glad Artemis stuck up for herself especially the times where he would say something hurtful to her. I loved the relationship she has with her siblings especially Psy.

FLOORED

I absolutely loved this book! I am floored because I had no idea this was the author's FIRST BOOK! No way does this read like a first book. Holy Moly. If she put this much talent into the first book, I can’t wait for the next. I thought at first that the concept was trite: been there, read that. BUT. NO. Artemis & Gideon are authentic people living authentic lives with a truly UNCONVENTIONAL love story. I was rooting for them the whole reading experience. And what an experience it was. This one, I will read many times.

Just soooo good....

For a freshman author this was well written debut novel. It made me laugh out loud. I found myself rooting for both the heroine and the hero. The support characters were great. Those that made you hate them made you really hate them. Those support characters that made you laugh made you want to hug them and also root for some of them. And the surprise at the end of the book was great. It was excellent! I will be reading this author's next book. I look forward to it!

Mr Fate, I’m familiar with your game

This read was such a pleasant surprise. I went into it not expecting much but I ended up really liking it. Gideon is an a-hole who needs to save his company and uses Artemis (Thalia) to do that by marrying her. They start off as enemies who can’t really stand each other, progress to friends and then lovers. It ended in such a way that I know there’s more to their story and I can’t wait to read more of it. I kinda want me a Gideon now 🙈

Basically there is just too much going on and the multiple layers are mostly tidbits which may be setting the stage for the next books in this series. My expectation for this genre is for the main purpose/focus to be the building of a romantic relationship with whatever else being secondary. The family drama, on both sides was, in different ways, was consuming and trifling. 🙂 In the end, the fate of their romance did shine.

awesomeness

A well written trope that leaves other novels behind. Even when secrets are revealed, there are still are more layers to be discovered.

The greatest strength of this author is that the plot line is not what makes the story, it’s the characters being evolved from their secrets and their secrets and evolving them into something new that has them twisting by the fateS.

So here's the deal. I enjoyed this book towards the end probably the last 200 pages, but the beginning was very slow. The fmc and mmc don't communicate or interact enough to keep me personally interested. I somehow got through it to the good parts. I also noticed a glaring plot hole that I'm angry wasn't resolved no big spoiler but what happened at UCLA!

Chef’s Kiss🤌🏾

What a delicious debut from this author! So impressive! I absolutely fell in love with Gideon and Artemis as individuals and as a couple. The story arc is fire!🔥 Truly unfolds meticulously. By the end, the characters have developed so much so I feel I need to reread the story to re-experience what they were like at the onset. Brilliant writing!

It took me half way through the book to figure out the nature of Gideon’s parents relationship. I initially thought it was a typo that one minute , he is referring to two different man as dad. I love the first half of the book, the second half drag the story a little bit too long. I also love the slow burn.

Loved it!

I really enjoyed reading the story of Artemis and Gideon. No lie, Artemis for a woman kinda threw me off until reading more of the story. This isn't an instant love/sex all the time romance. It has real substance in my opinion. I can't wait to read the next installment.

This is a can't put down book. You are kept in suspense wanting to know when the explicit will happen. Many of the books that I read got into the explicit content within the first two chapters. Mr and Mrs Fate was different. This is a must read book, and most importantly I love the ending.

just wonderful

I liked the names the characters have. A lot of history and facts are covered here. I would like to see more interactions with Gideons brothers. I liked the way the panic attacks were dealt with. Off to book two

As a debute novel i really liked it the slow burn romance was tea. Some critic it got a bit flat in the middle with the repetitive statements or their insecurities or the grand speeches about their feelings. Like as a reader I been paying attention no need to remind us as often.
