Have you ever wondered what it's like to have everything?
Tanya Travis doesn't have to. As host of TV show 'The Truth with Tanya Travis,' she has glamour, luxury, success and public adulation while solving the problems of Britain's great unwashed every morning on her TV show.
However, things are not all they seem and Tanya's life of designer kitchens, Prada handbags and myriad TV awards is as difficult behind the scenes as those of her TV show guests. Tanya is hounded by the press, constantly reading damning headlines about her own life, looks, and body. But when she reads about her partner's weakness for young blondes and problems mount on her show, Tanya's carefully constructed celebrity life begins to come apart at the seams.
Her only lifeline is 'Celebrity Spa Trek' a reality show in the Himalayas 'Where bad celebrities go good.' But can clean-freak Tanya cope with no hot water, starvation, exhaustion, heartbreak and the sheer showbiz bitchiness of a celebrity trek through the Himalayas? Even with her relationship in crisis, cellulite on overdrive and career on the line, Tanya can't face the thought of prime time exposure with a desperate gaggle of C-List wannabes...but does she have a choice?
A sharp, witty novel about our celebrity obsessed culture from the author of bestselling Fat Girls and Fairy Cakes.

I wanted to end this year with some light reads. When I asked for a cheesy chicklit, I hadn't bargained for this trash. The author went overboard trying to be cool and funny, but failed miserably. It made me nauseous. I didn't find anything funny about the spoilt Tanya and her troubles in a reality TV show.
She did quite some research about the poverty(sic) in Nepal, but couldn't find a proper name for one of the main characters. Ardash is not a Hindu name. It should have been Adarsh. I wouldn't usually complain about character names, but this book made me so angry that I am finding fault in everything about this book. I can go on whining, I know it's my fault that I didn't DNF this sooner.
If ever I need a book to perk me up, I should stick to the vintage PG Wodehouse or the ever reliable Sophie Kinsella books.
This is my first Sue Watson, and will probably be my last.

Sue Watson’s debut novel Fat Girls and Fairy Cakes was released in 2012 and was an absolute winner with me. I was really excited and getting to read an early review copy of her new book and thankfully I wasn’t disappointed. If there are people out there that wants to read a thoroughly meaningful book with morals and meaning, then please don’t read this and then grumble. If, however, you are looking for an extremely humorous fictional take on what it’s like to be a failing celebrity then this will be a winner!
Initially I found it hard to get to grips with the lead in the book Tanya Travis and the beginning felt a little bit ‘bitty’. Luckily that lasted no more than a few chapters and I began to really like Tanya Travis. Yes, she is a daytime talk show and has the boyfriend, lifestyle and money to match; but we also get to see the normal side to this quirky and OCD inflicted character. Within the first quarter of the book the humour was ramped up and I found myself wondering why Sue Watson hasn’t been writing for longer. In addition to Tanya, we meet Tanya’s slightly eccentric and crazy agent Donna and the absolute legendary cleaner she employs, Astrid. One thing I will say is that in both of her books, there have been characters that haven’t necessarily taken the led but which you absolutely fall in love with, and Astrid is most certainly one of them!
When Tanya’s career takes a serious nosedive her life falls apart in front of the general public. With her life and career on the verge of crumbling, she manages to let her agent persuade her to take part in the reality TV show Celebrity Spa Trek. BY the second half of the book I didn’t want to put the book down. The cleaner Astrid had me in hysterics, and Tanya’s behaviour matched the hilarity. The section of the book where she takes part in the reality show doesn’t dominate the book, but certainly adds the extra layer in terms of characters. There were some brilliant characters and I couldn’t help making real life comparisons (which makes it even funnier).
I certainly guessed where the book would go towards the end, but am glad that it was written the way it was. I only have one criticism about this latest book and that is the cover! I know people may think that’s a trivial matter, but for some reason I just don’t think the cover is enough to make people want to pick it up if they were in a bookshop. The cover certainly doesn’t do justice to the book itself, that’s for sure. With the cover issue aside, I can honestly say that if you want a really funny book to transport you from everyday humdrums, and lift your mood then this is the book for you. This was an outstanding second book by Sue Watson which does exactly what it says on the tin. Can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.

What a fabulously entertaining book!
Tanya Travis is the talk show Queen of Daytime TV and she thinks no-one can touch her. With toy-boy Nathan, in her shadow, who is according to the press a womaniser and wannabe music star, happily spending all her money, she lives a life where she is always trying to stay ahead of the competition.
Her crazy life is a daily challenge and because no-one really gets close to her, her only real friends are Donna her ball-busting agent and potty-mouthed Astrid who is her cleaner. When Donna offers her a place on TV show Celebrity Spa Trek, Tanya feels that it is way beneath her. However, when her life unexpectedly starts to fall apart, she may have to consider this as her only option.
OMG! Did I laugh at this book! Astrid was the most hilarious character I think I’ve come across in a book - ever. Foul-mouthed but with a huge heart I think Mrs Watson should be writing a book all about her next! I can’t really tell you any more about her as it would spoil the read, but I have to just tell you to be prepared! She will have you in bits! I learned lots of new swear words and phrases, which I’m still tittering about a couple of days later, so it was also quite an educational read!
You warm to Tanya throughout the book, realising that she is not the person that the public think she is, and it does make you realise that there are people in the world just like her who must be frightened to death to make friends, speak out of turn or do anything that the press would turn around deliberately to ruin lives.
I first knew of Sue Watson when I read her debut novel Fat Girls & Fairy Cakes. That too was a brilliant book and I had high hopes for her second.
Sue Watson has certainly not disappointed me. In fact, she has totally exceeded over and above my expectations. I loved every single minute of it. I loved learning about Nepal and the customs and learning about the beauty in complete contrast to the poverty and suffering. I strangely loved the way that one minute I was crying with laughter and the next crying with the sheer emotion of her words.
This book left me with a great big smile on my face and a warm feeling in my heart. I hope to read many more of her books in the future.

I read Sue’s last book, Fat Girls and Fairy Cakes and it was one of my favourite reads last year so I had high expectations for this latest book. I wasn’t disappointed!
Sue has a knack of writing a comical book that also has some substance to it. Whilst at no point did I ever really like Tanya Travis but I don’t think you really are meant to! We meet Tanya whilst she is the Queen of the daytime tv and then see how the mighty fall. Doing all she can to make money she is pushed by her agent to do a celebrity reality show which has very funny consequences!
It would be totally wrong of me to write this review without mentioning Tanya’s Scandinavian ‘cleaner’ Astrid. She has to be one of the best supporting characters in a book I have ever read. I think I could happily read a book all about her .. she is hysterical and says exactly how it is!!! – More Astrid please Sue Watson!

Tanya Travis is the darling of daytime television. She appears to have it all but for Tanya everything seems to be spiralling out of control. She knows she isn’t getting any younger and no amount of botox and surgery is going to stop the dreaded ageing process.
I did feel quite sorry for Tanya even though she is very much kidding herself. Her boyfriend Nick is a waste of space and even though deep down she knows this, she tries to blind herself from it. She has no thoughts of the future and between her and Nick she is pretty much penniless. Losing her position on daytime television to someone younger, I couldn’t help but feel for her.
I loved the Celebrity Spa Trek, it’s very much like I’m A Celebrity but is in the very picturesque Nepal. I loved the story when it got to this part. For Tanya being there comes as a big shock, not just because she has to sleep rough but because she starts to find herself and realise what she wants from life. It’s very much a life changing experience for her and I was totally honoured to be a part of it.
Even though overall it is a very fun and light hearted read, the author always manages to have a more serious undertone running through the story. I think Tanya proves to us readers that it is never to late to change yourself and how money and fame isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
Younger Thinner Blonder is in parts a laugh out loud read. Even though it’s a humorous read it is also a very inspiring one. I always come away from this authors books feeling lighter and that I can take on the world. Extremely uplifting.

Tanya Travis seems to have everything. She is a Daytime TV Show star, has a gorgeous boyfriend and a designer’s kitchen. But being over 40 in show business is not easy. The TV set decides to replace her for a younger host, her boyfriend, music-star-to-be, is accused of being a father of young starlet’s unborn baby, and she loses her house. Her last chance is winning the reality show Celebrity Spa Trek where former stars are climbing the mountains in Nepal. So, how can someone like her survive in Nepal’s wild?
OMG! Tanya Travis is my new favorite character. She is so funny and always gets herself in so many ridiculous situations. Poor Tanya, always misunderstood by the paparazzi, she made me laugh out loud. One moment she has everything, a gorgeous house with a cook from Sweden, her own TV Show, a boyfriend that she loves, designer’s clothes. But do all these things really matter? So, when she loses everything, she grabs the very last chance to come back. Celebrity Spa Trek is not what she wants in life, but seems she has no choice. But, deep in the jungles of Nepal, high in the mountains, she starts to change herself. She realizes there’s more to life than designer’s shoes and dresses.
Another character that I loved is Astrid, Tanya’s cook. She has a really dirty mouth, but that’s because she learns English from the movies. Astrid is that BFF that you always need. So funny, so hilarious, so naive. I adored her.
Nathan is Tanya’s boyfriend. The tabloids say that he is just a boy-toy, that he is with her just for her money and fame.
So, reality TV fans, tabloid fans, good book fans, get ready. Climb the mountains of Nepal with Tanya Travis and don’t worry about cellulite. Having wrinkles is not the biggest problem in the world. Hope you’ll enjoy this hilarious book as much as I did.

Very blatantly a rip off from Get Me Out of Here, which is frequently mentioned, but that probably only makes it even more amusing to read.
I loved most of the characters in the book, and hated those I was meant to hate. Laughed out loud in places.
I gave it only 4 stars because it was predictable, even though I'm not sure that actually detracted from the story at all.
Certainly be reading more of Sue Watson's books :)
PS I just noticed it's taken me 8 days to read. Which shows that a) I've been a lot busier at work! and b) that I didn't feel compelled to pick it up during every spare moment.

Sorry I didn't like this book.
The programme is a programme I actually dislike so I was unable to enjoy it.
I found the main character unlikeable arrogant. Sense of entitlement

Straight away we’re introduced to Tanya’s hectic lifestyle where every single minute is accounted for … and what she has to do keep in shape!
Once in the studio we realise that all is not as well as it should be with rumbles from the ‘4th floor.’
Tanya’s agent, Donna, wants her to accept a prime time job on reality show, Celebrity Spa Trek … but with her OCD, Tanya knows she won’t be able to cope.
It’s not long though before a couple of embarrassing incidents mean that the 4th floor get exactly what they want … and Tanya is off to Nepal to star in the reality show.
In the beginning she plays the diva (some really humorous scenes) but we see her beginning to step back and get to know herself as Nepal and the orphanage works its magic.
Boyfriend Nathan is so transparent. Of course Tanya can’t see it … Many times I could have given her a shake!
Cleaner come PA Astrid is a brilliant character. Larger than life with her attitude, she adds humour but there’s also another side to her role in the story.
Once we were in Nepal, I became much more involved with what was happening. I really enjoyed the scenes and watching Tanya’s character change. If you read my reviews you will know I love to see a character grow into their own and Tanya certainly does that! From living in a superficial world (that makes her paranoid!) to the privations of Celebrity Spa Trek, for the first time Tanya analyses what and who makes her happy. The romance is great too (and I don’t mean with Nathan!). I was so rooting for Tanya’s life to have the outcome I wanted it to have!
Younger Thinner Blonder will appeal to all ages who enjoy the sparkle of romance.
I would like to thank the author for providing a proof copy in exchange for an honest review.

Tanya Travis, 40 something, daytime TV star, the female equivalent of Jeremy Kyle, is at the top of her profession after 15 years. She lives with her boyfriend, Nathan, hanger-on in the first degree.
Tanya is too busy with her career to notice that she needs to keep an eye on her own private life until a very public meltdown. She decides to take the offer of appearing on Celebrity Spa Trek as a damage limitation exercise without thinking about what she is getting herself in to.
How will she cope with her OCD tendencies on a trek? How will her diva ways help her to survive in the mountains? Will she have a career and boyfriend to come home to?
Although this is a rom com, underneath the author has written a thought provoking tale with attention to detail and it has been well researched. Not only research on daytime tv but trekking in Nepal, too.
Very funny, fast paced and action packed page turner.
5 out of 5 for me! Sue Watson's best novel to date!
