Simplified Chinese edition of You are too small. Tad is a little mouse living on a farm. He wants to help other animals with their chores, but they all told him that he's too small. But when he returns to the barn to sleep, he finds his friends are all locked out. Being small is not so bad after all.
You're Too Small by Shen Roddie tells the story of a barn mouse who eagerly asks all of the other barn animals if they would like help, only to be told he cannot help because of his size. I like this story for a young age group because sometimes kids like to pick on each other for their size, so this book could help a child who is being picked on. I liked this story because throughout the entire book, the mouse never gave up hope; when he was turned down by one animal, he just kept asking to help, and finally, he was just the right size for something that benefited the entire group of animals. I liked the line "I don't look too small to me! I look just right!" because this line tells the reader that size is relative. What is small to one person may be extremely different to another person. I thought the illustrations were very cute for a young age group because they were fairly realistic animals performing human activities, like eating a pie with a spoon. This book will teach a child that his or her size is irrelevant to what they are capable of doing.
This book is great for the younger grades! It teaches the very important lesson that size doesn't matter! Many children might not feel confident because of their size, but this story teaches that there are important skills that everybody possesses, regardless of how tall or short they are! I would definitely have this on my shelves in my future classroom!
Sucha cute book about a mouse who is told he is too small to do anything and he keeps believing that one day he will get big enough. one day a problem occurs and he is the only one that can help. great book for boosting self esteem and that there is something that a child is good at.
