It's either marry my awful ex or go to jail...
Unless Weston Scott has something to say about it.
And apparently, he has a LOT to say.

Leave it to a hockey player to bust into a high society engagement party with no invitation and no Plan B.
He wants me back?
After how we broke up?!
Is he out of his mind???

In yes.
But maybe I am, too.
I'm also out of options, and excuses...
And the more Weston insists that I belong to him and only him...
The more I start to believe him.

Ugggh, so the first book was decent. I didn't love the H he was kind of a paranoid hot headed idiot without many redeemable qualities, but overall it was a cute story....then it jumped off the rails at the end and became this whole other story in book 2. Really, the whole stealing thing should not have been the massive plot point it was, it should have all been resolved in one book. The H never made up for ruining the h's life over a false assumption and yet basically gave his best friend a pass. Then when he's confronted about it, he still doesn't see the real issue! The groveling in this was woefully lacking, he never really apologized and was more concerned with how the h would view his best friend for ACTUALLY stealing, lying and throwing her under the bus than for how he made her look by ruining her life for something she didn't do. I couldn't be excited they were together because he didn't even deserve her. So disappointing.

Things went from bad to worse. Renee was pretty weak in the first book. In this one she’s down right pathetic! Weston has ruined her life. Stolen her independence that she apparently had run and sacrificed for and he has forced her into a miserable situation. But wait. He’s just so hot that I must jump his bones and do whatever he says. SO. PATHETIC.

And then, when Weston finally starts to make amends and show that he knows he messed up, Renee operates under the delusion that it’s better to stay with the miserable rich man for her baby’s sake instead of with the father!! The father who’s shown her how much he’ll take care of her and how much he’ll fight for her. The father that she’s already screwing around with whenever she can because - again, hot guy overrules all sense. 🙄 No, why would she go back to that guy when she has the douche bag who threatens her and calls her names at every turn. Much smarter to raise a baby with him. It made no sense!

But the icing on the cake, the proof that Weston does NOT actually love her is when he chooses Hunter over her. When he doesn’t even tell her he knows she didn’t do it and he’s sorry he was such an ass. When Hunter goes in one ambulance and Renee goes in the other and Weston isn’t sure where he should go!!

Somebody explain to me where you saw love in this book. Anywhere at all!? The only emotions expressed are anger and lust. We read a lot about Weston being mad. Him wanting to kill Deacon. Him mad at everything. Or about lust. Sex toys and phone sex and so forth. But nothing about him being so devastated because he ruined the woman he loves. Nothing about his heart breaking to see her so upset and mistreated. Nothing that shows he cares about her IN ANY WAY! Just anger and lust.

I’m so annoyed I wasted so much time on this duet. What a joke.

Almost DNFed it but it was a quick read

The MMC was a garbage human.
So much trash fire it’s insane

This book might’ve pushed me to stop reading hockey romances for a while it was so bad. A true travesty.

I loved the first book, but the plot completely fell apart in the second. The author desperately needs to fire her editor and find one who can help her remember details and not lose sight of who her characters are.
1. The strong independent Renee from the first book was forgotten in order to string readers along through the second book. Her back and forth with Weston doesn’t even make sense.
2. The fact video evidence of the robberies existed on building security footage and was never found by detectives makes absolutely zero sense. Like huge plot hole that the author just barreled through.
3. How was a gallery showing of Renee’s photos arranged and publicized without her parents or her so-called fiancé know about or fighting with her over?

Cat’s Stats
MMC/FMC- Weston and Renee
Genre- Sports Romance (hockey)
Length- 62 chapters plus epilogue. Pack a lunch.
Heat- 🌋🌋🌋🌋🌋 Almost as hot as the first one.
Series? Y; duet
Safety? Y (although she’s technically cheating on her forced fiancé, so YMMV)
Triggers- Domestic violence/abuse, emotional abuse, violence, language, explicit erotic content, weight shaming
Tropes- Enemies to Lovers, Hunckson and Chantilleee, Bathroom Zex, Secret Pregnancy, Dysfunctional Family FTW, Wrongly Accused, Forced Engagement
Mewsings
What I liked- not gonna lie, there were parts of this book that were hard to read, especially the abuse scenes (both physical and emotional). But they did make me think and feel, and that’s the point of fiction. I did like the ending a lot and the scene where Weston confronted her father.
What I didn’t- This book made me feel pretty miserable for a lot of pages. Some drama and angst is one thing, but it seemed to drag on and on. I did some skipping around to get through it, and went back and read the skipped sections later, though not at once because I couldn’t take feeling so down.
I don’t like duets in general. I think they are a sign of lazy editing. Both of these books had some scenes that were filler and could have been edited out to make a tighter book. Or to make it a single volume instead of a duet.

Weston and Renee

This book begins right where we left off. Renee is now stuck in the world she thought she left behind, feeling like a prisoner with no say in what her future holds. Believing that being back in her old world is what she must do to ensure her baby’s future, she tries to forget the man who turned her whole life upside down even if it’s the last thing her heart wants.

Weston is a mess after he came to the conclusion that Renee was a liar and a thief…only to find out he made a mistake. Seeing news that she’s now engaged to another man sends him spiraling. He is willing to do anything to get her back. Knowing he had to find a way to talk to her, he starts making appearances at every event Renee and her “so called fiancée” are attending. After the first event, it’s clear to him that something is wrong. The haunted and lifeless eyes that stare back at him during that encounter just solidifies his goal to get the woman he loves back. Knowing some challenges will be harder to get through than others, determination to get back the love of his life and their baby growing I her belly push him to fight for everything that is important. A life without them is unacceptable.

Plot: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I was so ready for this book and it had me enthralled from the beginning. I couldn't put it down because I needed to see how Weston reacted to everything. My favorite part is when reality finally knocks some sense into the characters and this book had an epic build up to that point.

I really appreciated how Weston stepped it up in this book. He knew what he needed to do and didn't let anything stand in his way. He showed more of his sweet side and I loved how determined he was. He definitely had some unique ideas for winning her back.

Renee was a mixed bag in this one. One thing that bothered me was that she was so strong in the first book and just became so weak in this one. She should have fought harder for herself because of her baby instead of in spite of the baby. She just let Deacon control her when she had other options. It was quite frustrating. Overall I did like her character though and think she was sweet and spunky. I was rooting for her.

I really enjoyed this hockey romance. It had a little bit of everything and plenty of angst. I enjoyed the characters and I really loved how the book wrapped everything up. It was very well written and held my attention from the get go. I would recommend it!

📚Review~ Red Line Riot
🖋Author~ Mariah Wolfe
🖋Features: Contemporary Romance, Sports Romance, Hockey Romance
⭐️Rating: 5/5

"I want you, Weston. You and everything that comes with you."

Red Line Riot is the conclusion of Red Line Ruin in the Firebirds duet. Too quick to judge, Weston assumes the worst of Renee. With a past filled with distrust, Weston rips everything good from Renee. He believes he's only giving her exactly what she deserves. And, maybe he's right. At least that's what Renee believes. Weston's actions forces Renee back into the viper pit of a family that she barely escaped the first time.

Hopefully, Weston can reconcile his past with his the present he is determined to have with Renee.

I really wanted to love this book. I could not put the first one down and read it in one sitting. This one was good, however, I did not find it as compelling as the first one. While I always love a good villain in a book, I felt that the villain qualities were show and then nothing was done about it. I really struggled with feeling bad for Renee throughout this book. She struck a deal with her parents to have someone to take care of her. It felt like she just kept making stupid mistake after another stupid mistake. However, given the mistakes that Weston made, had she made it easy for him to win her back, it would not have felt realistic. I did plow through this book almost as quickly as the first. I love that there’s is a one year and five year epilogue. I want to see more of the side characters stories!

As much as I loved the first book, I disliked this one. It was like the whole world that was built in the first book was erased and everything was missing. There wasn't even enough hockey stuff and Renee had forgotten all her work friends. They had sub-plots that were forgotten and we were just teased about them in the end. They weren't even an afterthought. I also disliked Renee and Weston’s attitude towards Nathan. One was too cruel one went too easy on him. And let's be honest. Weston didn't do enough to make up for almost sending Renee to prison. The family drama and the forced fiance plot didn't make things better and it was very hard to finish the book. Had the book been a stand-alone, I would have recommended it. After reading the second part of the duet, I would recommend avoiding the books. It was such a disappointment.

OMG 😱 this story was absolutely Fantastic. It was a steamy page turner and the suspense was incredible intense. I was on the edge of my seat wanting more and I couldn’t even imagine of put it down. It was addicted. Weston and Renee romance was like a rollercoaster ride and she was fisty beautiful woman and Weston was a handsome man who wanted her and he was intrigued with her. There was so much of physical attraction and the chemistry was boiling like hot water on a hot stove. The temptation was off the scale and the temperature was raising with the urge of fireworks.
I definitely recommend this book and you won’t be disappointed. I received advance copy of this book via Bookfunnel and am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion. Trina Jones

Dual POV, not a standalone, book 2 of a duet

A pet peeve of mine is when the grovel only lasts for like, a chapter or two. I love that Weston really had to work for it. Was Renee a little weak for him at times? Yeah... But at least it wasn't all roses by chapter 4. I liked how the side plot with Hunter was handled, because that is definitely a complicated situation. I got a little stressed toward then end that we were gonna have a "moment" like in book 2 of the Dallas Bulls Hockey duet (IYKYK). Overall, another great duet by Mariah Wolfe, and I can't wait to read what she comes out with next!

Guilty Pleasure Hockey Romance

This is the second book in the series, so if you have not already - pick up Red Line Ruin first! Satisfying sequel to the first book, full of lots of groveling, romance, and spice. He let his past cloud his judgement and treated her terribly - can he convince her to give him another chance? She sold her soul to the devils to escape the situation he put her in and now he wants her back, is the unhappiness you know better than the risk of heartbreak again? Suspenseful, page turning book! Full of drama and redemption! Highly recommend!

Red Line Riot is a fast paced and suspenseful hockey romance. The stoyline is well written and very entertaining. Renee and Weston go through a rollercoaster ride of emotions on their way to HEA. Weston messed up big time at the end of book one, so I love that Renee didn't just easily take him back. He needed to grovel and put in the work to fix what he broke. What a fantastic conclusion to a great duet!!.

Wow, that was an intense. In the first book Renee's family is described as evil but this book shows just how evil they really are. My heart broke for her and everything she went through. Then Weston reminded me of Nicolas Cage in Valley Girl trying to win back the girl. I also loved the part about Hunter I was rooting for him too. Another great series by Mariah Wolfe!

Good, but...
Way too much drama. It was like the main female character Renee couldn't catch a break. I wanted to like the main character, Weston, but at times, he was such a jerk that I just didn't like him. I got invested in this story and had to finish it. I feel like it was too long and way too much unnecessary drama. But overall, I liked some of it.

This was a good wrap up to the first book, there was so much more drama. Maybe at times a little too much. But Weston had to do some groveling and Renee, she has that soft spot for him. All in all, a good duet.

Great finish. I love how it touched on the effects of what people might consider “light abuse” and how it’s still quite detrimental to the recipient. I’ll never relate to the parental support system described so that was hard to imagine. The end was wild though… I think this author has a bit of mafia romance stories ready to come out. 😉

Man... What a rough read... And not in a good way. Toxic. Terrible characters and bad story development. I almost dnf'd several times. Complaining the whole time. Weak FMC, hotheaded MMC, stupidly flat evil villain. A lot of the characters were pretty 1 dimensional... Sorry to the author but this book duet was not for me.

Colossal dbag. Weston is the biggest whiny frat boy if all time. He blames everything on Renee, takes no ownership for his behavior or actions.

After the cliffhanger of the last book, this one picks right off where that one ended. Great continuation of the story. I appreciated the grovel and the hold fast of the characters. Great read.
