Second-chance, enemies-to-lovers, fake-date, little-sister’s-best-friend, forbidden, stand-alone contemporary romance.

Ricky Dunn is the equivalent to a splinter under my fingernail.
Romantic?
Right.
He’s the older brother of my best friend, and no matter how hard either of us try, we can’t seem to avoid each other. The problem started on the night my best friend and I graduated from high school. The party was joyous, a celebration.
That night, I willingly gave Ricky a part of me—more than the kiss we told others about.
Our deal was simple.
No strings.
Ricky kept his side of the bargain.
Years have passed.
Being from the same small town and crossing paths, I haven’t noticed how handsome he’s become or the way he’s filled out.
If you ask me, he hasn’t noticed me either.
Until he calls.
I’m working for a finance company, one he’s now interviewing for.
“Marilyn, will you be my date for the dinner with the partners? It’s only for one date and no strings.”
The problem is my heart hasn’t kept my side of our bargain.
I want at least one string.
Do I agree to his proposal, or do I turn him down flat?

Have you been Aleatha’d?

Aleatha Romig's "lighter ones" never fail to entertain me. One String's storyline was well thought out, keeping me engaged the whole time. It was easy to read but impossible to put down. Ricky and Marilyn's stories are full of emotion, swooning, and banters that will keep you hooked on the story. Overall, a beautiful story of love, friendship, and light as any small-town romance should be. It is highly recommended and truly worth the read!

I’ve only read Althea’s mafia books so I wasn’t sure what to expect with One String but this sweet romance was fantastic!

I loved Ricky and Marilyn together. Let me say though…Marilyn has the patience of a freaking saint. Not giving away any of the plot is tough when I want to say more about Ricky and why he made certain choices, but let me tell you this book has all the sweet, spicy and angsty moments. Also, the friendships that these characters have each other is just heartwarming! I absolutely adored those parts of the book when they were all together. Especially at Devan and Justin’s house.

I’m looking forward to reading the other books in this series!

Thank you Aleatha Romig and Wildfire Marketing Solutions for the ARC of this book.

This is a good story. A second chance with the best friend's brother. Marilyn and Ricky find themselves in each other orbits yet again, but will this time end differently?
I did enjoy the story. I love Marilyn fierce loyalty and her big heart. Ricky took me a while to like, but in the end he did prove himself. Love the group of friends and I love that the story, while revolving around the main characters, involves their families and friends a lot.

Absolutely love Aleatha’s “lighter ones” Marilyn and Ricky have a story that I couldn’t put down. I get so intrigued with age gap and second chances. There are always broken hearts but don’t give up on each other.

If you've read any of the lighter reads before this, you've been to Riverbend and have met the close-knit town. If not, you need to dive in and meet this great little community. Ricky and Marylin show you that when all odds are against you to keep pushing. Marylin was content living away from her hometown but didn't realize how lonely she was until Ricky connected with her. One night, they shared and parted ways, but now they're older, and things have changed. Their journey was one I couldn't turn the page fast enough. They have you on an emotional rollercoaster, but all good things work out.

It's been a really long time since I've read anything by Aleatha Romig, and I really enjoyed Ricky and Marilyn's story in One String.

Years ago, when Marilyn and her best friend Devan graduated high school, she slept with Devan's older brother, Ricky, whom she always had a crush on. There is a 10-year age difference between Marilyn and Ricky, and it seemed so huge when she was 18 and he was 28. They agreed to one night with no strings… but Marilyn still had her feelings hurt when Ricky ghosted her afterwards. In the years since, she's given him snarky attitude when she's seen him. The book starts at Devan's wedding, where Marilyn is the maid of honor and Ricky is the best man. They put aside their differences for the night, and come to a truce of sorts.

A year and a half later, Ricky (who has since gone on to college as a later-in-life student) is up for a job at Marilyn's firm and asks her to be his plus-one at a recruiting dinner. She reluctantly agrees, and during a catch-up dinner with Ricky before the dinner party, she finds out that she actually quite enjoys spending time with him. A stupid mistake from Ricky's past derails their renewed friendship, but he does some major groveling and Marilyn agrees to give him yet another chance.

But just as Marilyn and Ricky are finding their footing as a couple, another tragedy threatens to tear them apart again.

I liked the connection between these two characters, and the larger group of family and friends surrounding them. I thought the journey of Marilyn and Ricky's relationship was well-paced, and he did prove himself in the end after making numerous mistakes when it came to breaking her trust.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

I received a copy of this arc in exchange for my honest review. I am so glad I decided to dive into this author’s work. This was a quick and easy read that had me sucked in right from the beginning and had me reading until 1 am. I could not put this down. Marilyn and Ricky have a lifelong history, but not always positive. Ricky is her best friend’s older brother, whom she’s always had a crush on. The night of her best friend’s graduation party, the two have a one-night-only, no-strings-attached hookup, which remains a secret for years.
But when they walk away like it never happened, Marilyn is heartbroken.
Now years later at her best friend’s wedding, she has to play nice with him for the day.
These two deal with the years of unresolved feelings and what is brought to the forefront.
Despite their history, I knew Ricky’s character was a nice guy. I absolutely understood Marilyn’s feelings toward the situation and loved how she knew her worth and made RIcky prove to her how he felt.
The chemistry between these two was off the charts, and the spice was exactly what I had hoped for.
I loved the side characters. and how close they all are. I definitely am invested in all of them and their stories and can’t wait to dive into them . This author knows how to suck you into a story immediately and keep you there wanting more.
I just loved it !

Wow! I absolutely loved this book. Amazing characters and wonderful plot. Very beautifully written and easy to read.

Ricky Dunn and Marilyn can’t avoid each other even if they wanted it. They live in the same small town and Ricky is Marilyn’s best friend’s older brother. On the night of graduation of Melanie and her best friend, at the party Marilyn and Ricky spent a wonderful evening together without any strings. They told everyone that they shared only a kiss. Since then years have passed. They don’t notice muck of each other. Until he calls her with a favor. He is interviewing for a finance company that Merilyn works for and he wants to take her to dinner with the partners. One night. No strings. But she wants there to be some stings. I loved their chemistry and passion. They were made for each other.

Overall I loved this book very much. If you’re looking for an enemies to lovers, second chance, best friend’s brother romance then you’re going to love it.

Age gap, second chance, bestfriends brother.
So many things to love about this book.
I think my favorite was their history.
They have a bad personal history. He hurt her!
But the friendship smalltown history is what I loved about this story.
Tragedy hit our our small town and our couple fell apart when all was going so good.
I hated watching them but loved watching the small town come together and that led to fixing our couple.
Our hero is an idiot, a loveable, heart in the right place Fool!
Love that a few of these lighter books by Aleatha Romig are connected.
Can't wait to see what's next from her light or dark? I don't care just give me more words!

One night. No strings. Age-gap.

Can Ricky and Marilyn be more than friends? Or will that high school graduation incident define them forever?

It's been years with several encounters where Marilyn gets her sassiness on! Ricky finds it amusing. However, Ricky may want more.

Now that they're older, he feels like the age difference isn't as big a deal! I believe that too! Here's hoping that these two can be each others forever person!

I loved this feel good, low angst romance!

Doesn't matter the trope(s), Ms. Romig is exceptional at her craft!

Absolutely loved this story, just wish I could’ve read more. As I’ve read all the books in the series, I’ve followed Ricky’s story, so I’m glad there’s a book in this series just for him. Marilyn is on her way to being a high flyer and Ricky wants a similar life, he’s just starting out a bit later. Marilyn helps him along the way. Definitely recommend this book.

I absolutely loved Marilyn and Ricky's story. So many fun tropes; sister's best friend, the first one, age gap all rolled into a story about fighting through the hard stuff to build a solid foundation for love. Marilyn and Ricky have been in and out of each other's lives for forever, friends, family, enemies all underscored the tension between these two. I am loving these lighter stories.

I have always loved Aleatha's writing both her dark and lighter ones, and this book was no different. It was easy to lose myself in the authors writing and this incredible world she has created. Ricky and Marilyn have been in each other's life a long time, and I loved reading them and falling in love. This is a feel-good romance that I would totally recommend. It was very easy to connect to the characters, and I was emotionally invested throughout the read. Thanks to Aleatha and Wildfire Marketing for the advanced copy of this amazing read.

This is another light hearted, summer read romance from Aleatha Roming. Marilyn and Ricky have a history dating back to her high school graduation. At that time, a 10 year age gap is a big deal and both decide to not talk about it. But Ricky ghosts Marilyn and so begins the enemies to lovers trope. It doesn’t help the Marilyn is best friends with Ricky’s younger sister. Overall this a an easy fun read. Their banter is great and it is fun to reconnect with the other characters from Riverbend, although you don’t have to read their stories to enjoy this book.

Light, entertaining read.

These are Aleatha Romig's Lighter Ones stories, so they don't have the drama and intrigue which can be a refreshing change when you want just a light, quick read.

Ricky is Marilyn's best friend's older brother, so their interactions are "no strings", right?!? Well at least one of them would like more than that...maybe both of them.

Entertaining summer read.

This is a read that really pulled me in. These two, Marilyn and Ricky have a bit of a history, a connection through his sister, and a bit of spice thrown in. I loved the way she handled herself, the snark kept things fun. I enjoyed how the story was able to show how strong of a relationship was being built, the closeness of their families and friends, and so much more. It's a must!

I love this Riverbend family!! One Strung is Ricky and Marilyn’s story. They spent one night together after Marilyn’s high school graduation that ended up hurting her. Years later Ricky reaches out to her asking for help. She’s to say yes because she doesn’t want to be hurt again. This is a fast easy read. Well worth it!!

Taking a brief departure from the darker side of romance, Aleatha Romig returns to the lighter side of love with “One String,” a fun and flirty enemies-to-lovers romance that makes for a perfect summer read. And I should know… because on a hot, lazy Sunday afternoon, I dove straight into Ricky and Marilyn’s contentious love story with such ardor, I finished it in just one sitting!

For those previously acquainted with Aleatha’s stand-alone lighter ones, you will, no doubt, be delighted to revisit some familiar friends from the small town of Riverbend as they become a small but integral part of this couple’s turbulent love/hate relationship. For those who are not, be prepared to be swept away this summer when “One String” pulls at your heartstrings, endearing you to this perfectly imperfect couple from start to finish.

A quick yet passionate read, “One String” should absolutely be at the top of everyone’s must-read list this upcoming summer.

This is a really good second chance book. I mean it covers over things in it but that was like the main focus for me and I just really liked how it was demonstrated throughout the story as well as how other concepts in the story built upon that. Another thing that I liked was the pacing it flowed nicely from beginning to end. I also like the main characters they just worked well together. Excellent book and so worth the read.

Second-chance, enemies-to-lovers, fake-date, little-sister’s-best-friend, forbidden, stand-alone contemporary romance.

Marilyn grew up in a small farming community about 2 hrs outside of Indianapolis. Marilyn always knew she didn't want to stay in the small town, and wanted to move to Indianapolis after she was finished with college later in life. Growing up with best friends Jill & Devan, she always had a crush on Devan's older brother Ricky, who always saw them as kids.

Richard (Ricky) Dunn has a little sister, Devan who Marilyn is best friends with. Ricky & Marily & Devan are about 10 yrs apart in age. Ricky didn't know what he wanted to do in life until he was in his late 20's. He decided to move to Indianapolis and go to college and get his degree. He had his sights set on working for a firm in Indianapolis. However, Marilyn also works at the same firm.

When Ricky passes several interviews and gets invited to a dinner by the firm, he reaches out to Marilyn to see if she would be able to give him some pointers and to go to the dinner with him as his plus one.

Marilyn isn't sure if she should help Ricky, since he ghosted her all those years ago, but she wonders if she helps him will he finally 'see' her? Will things possibly work for them now that they are older?

I did receive a free ARC copy of this book. I am freely leaving an honest review.

The story began with a one night stand between Ricky and Marilyn who was a young impressionable high school graduate. Ricky proceeded to stay away from Marilyn who was deeply hurt. And years later, he asked her some favor and she let down her guard and accepted Ricky into her life. And what happened after that made me feel so much for Marilyn for being such a strong woman to be able to hold the relationship together. Definitely another great book from Aleatha.

Marilyn has moved on (kind of) from the time Ricky broke her heart. Since then she's not spent it moping, no, she's become a success, and it's that success that brings Ricky back to her. Unwanted by Marilyn, at first. But when her sleazy ex pisses her off, she has to agree to help Ricky. Now all that forced proximity is either going to finally allow Ricky to explain himself and have the second chance he wants, or finally push Marilyn away for good.

Back when he broke her heart, Ricky felt justified. He hadn't realized a very important fact, and their age gap was significant at the time. Now though, the gap isn't important. Although he originally contacted her with a proposal that she help him get a job at her firm, he's starting to realize what he could have with her is far more important than a job.

I like these lighter stories by Aleatha. Marilyn and Ricky's story is a sweet one. They have serious chemistry, and worked through their issues with not too much angst - all in all a lighthearted, heartwarming story of forgiveness and second chances.

ONE STRING by Aleatha Romig is seventh instalment in Aleatha Romig’s contemporary, adult LIGHTER ONES erotic, romance series. This is Ricky Dunn, and financial advisor Marilyn James’ story line. ONE STRING can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Ricky and Marilyn) ONE STRING follows the second chance relationship between our story line couple. Ricky Dunn was Marilyn James’ best friend’s older brother, and the man who stirred something deep within our story line heroine. A one-night stand, followed by years of ghosting, left Marilyn struggling with her attraction to the man who destroyed her heart. Reconnecting at Ricky’s sister’s wedding, Marilyn made it clear there was no future between she and Ricky, and walked away without looking back but karma came back to bite Marilyn when Ricky, having graduated college, applied for a position at the firm for which Marilyn worked. A fake-relationship ensued in an effort to present a united front but an accident back home pulled Ricky out of Marilyn’s life leaving our heroine battling with everything that went wrong. What ensues is the enemies to friends to lovers relationship between Ricky and Marilyn, and the fall-out when Ricky pushes Marilyn out of his life, yet again.

The world building follows several intersecting paths including the lifelong friendships between Marilyn, Devan and Jill; Marilyn and Ricky’s struggle to leave their hometown of Riverbend, and Ricky’s need to apologize again, and again, and again.

The relationship between Marilyn and Ricky is one of second chances, of a sorts. Marilyn was Ricky’s little sister’s best friend, and in this their one-night stand destroyed any hopes for a happily ever after. Ricky didn’t want a relationship, and Marilyn’s self-esteem plummeted in the aftermath. The $ex scenes are passionate and seductive without the use of over the top sexually graphic language and text.

We are reintroduced to Devan and Justin, Jill and Todd, and Kandace and Dax.

ONE STRING is a story of heart break and emotions, family and friendships, forgiveness and love. The premise is captivating and entertaining; the romance is impassioned and fated; the characters are charismatic and determined
