This is the first book that I have read by the author, a romance which also deals with adoption, broken marriages and teenagers. The book is set in Sheffield and Los Angeles, mixing up the cultures and different life styles of the characters. There is a lot of anger and strong emotions throughout the book for several of the characters and I particularly wanted to throttle Catherine at times. Catherine has a hard time dealing with many issues in her life and consequently hides from decision ...more

Not a regular reader of family dramas, I picked this book only because I enjoyed this author's other series so immensely I wanted to have more. Well, I must say, disappointed I wasn't. Which might be an understatement. Catherine's story grabbed me from the very first chapter, when something absolutely unexpected happened. I should have read the description of this novel first, I suppose, but luckily I didn't. This way when Catherine' s past comes to haunt her it caught be as unprepared as it did ...more

I didn't think I was going to like the main character Catherine much as she came across as very self absorbed to start with but I ended up warming to her and her situation. The subject of adoption has been honestly tackled in this fictional tale by E L Lindley. She has taken a difficult subject and given her character Catherine true to life responses to a decision which changes the lives of everyone touched by it.

Catherine had an intense holiday romance with Bill, resulting in a pregnancy and a

Catherine is a woman who loves her independence and enjoys having a social life with no responsibilities. When an unexpected visitor turns up at her work her whole life goes into turmoil. She can't cope with everything that she now has to deal with and having to reconnect with her first and only love Bill everything gets too much. They try to sort out what happened years ago but what happened in the past will always put pressure on their relationship.

I like EL's books generally, but this wasn't my favourite. She's a very versatile author and seems to write very different books each time. This is more of a romance (admittedly a complex and not obviously smooth running one).
Again, complicated characters, which I liked. Not always going down the expected path. But this did run to be quite conventional at the end, which personally lost me, though I'm sure it will appeal very much to others.

While in the States, Catherine falls in love with Billy, but when she returns to the UK to resume her studies she finds out she’s pregnant. She decides to give up the baby for adoption and break off their relationship without even letting him know about the pregnancy. Eighteen years later their son, Harry, turns up at Catherine’s workplace wanting answers, and in need of love and care. How do you tell a man you once loved that you gave birth to his son, gave that baby away the moment he was ...more

Don't Look Back by E. L. Lindley took me right in. Nicely written, unpredictable and emotional, this story took hold and didn't let go. Very interesting topic that felt realistic. The author does a good job of bringing the characters to life while telling a compelling story. Sometimes the characters angered me but that is because it was written well enough that it felt true to life. Not all characters are likable and that is okay.

I was curious to see where this would lead as the drama peeked my

Recommends it for: Fans of contemporary romance
I've been following the author's blog for a time and her writing is always of high quality, so I decided to read one of her novels and it did not disappoint.
I usually shy away from romance but I found myself enjoying this one. It was realistic, edgy, written with intelligence, and the author has a good understanding of people and what makes them tick.
Don't Look Back explores the ways in which our mistakes can have far reaching effects on others, and how you can't run from your past forever;
