I kind of fell right in the middle with this book. While I did enjoy some parts of the story, I thought it was entirely too long winded and would have been much more enjoyable if it had been half the length it was. I did really enjoy Ro and Hump and all the other characters though and the story was entertaining despite being way too long! Also, Matt is a giant ass and I hate him with a fiery passion. Seriously, what a douche.

I have previously enjoyed other novels by Karen Swan, particularly her Christmas-related ones, so I was really looking forward to reading a summer based novel by Karen. I absolutely LOVE the cover – it made me feel summery and in the mood to escape somewhere hot and sunny, and so I couldn’t wait to start.

Rowena Tipton is looking for a new adventure, something exciting to take up her time as her long-term boyfriend has pressed pause on their relationship. Following a chance encounter at a wedding

I read my first Karen Swan book at Christmas and I loved it so I couldn’t wait for her new release The Summer Without You, what I didn’t expect was the hefty size! This book would be hazardous if you was to fall asleep reading it but luckily enough the storyline is so compelling there is no chance of drifting off!

Rowena or Ro as we come to know her has just bagged herself a Summer in the Hamptons after her partner decides he is having a pause in their relationship to go trekking! Ro is in for an

OK, so this was touted as the beach read for the summer, a must-read. How many beach reads are 550 pages long and weight 5 lbs? Really? I can get as many cliches and pointless plot lines in a lot smaller package and be just as satisfied.

I found the main character's constant whining about her absent boyfriend Matt really, really irritating for a long time into the book. Honestly, she wore his clothes instead of her own and curled up into a ball of pain because she missed his Skype call? Rowena dr

This is the second book by Karen Swan that I had pleasure to read and be sure that I will be keeping my eye on her every next release. And I hope it's going to happen sooner rather than later because Karen is going to write two novels a year from now! Result!

The story follows Rowena Tipton, who is a professional photographer and who settles very comfortably into her life with her business and a long - term boyfriend Matt. You can imag

Bless you, Karen Swan, you absolute marvel! If Karen Swan wasn’t one of my favourite authors before reading this novel (but, like, she kind of already was), then she was after I finished it. The Summer Without You is the perfect blend of suspense and romance, excitement and sheer enjoyment, and I was totally blown away by it! I wasn’t expecting to become so enraptured in the story of Rowena, a photographer spending her summer in the Hamptons, but I was immediately sucked in (as is the case with ...more
I thought this was going to be a light, beach reading...boy was I wrong!

It had unexpected transatlantic adventures, a murder and most of all sun and beaches! Which we sorely need right now in Canada. I did enjoy the views of Hampton, no matter how literal it was :P hey when you have winter going forever, anything helps! This book definitely isn't your typical read about the beaches and Hamptons, it definitely had a twist that I never expected.

Ok, I was soooo annoyed with Ro for a good portion o
Tea Leaves and Reads
I don't think I'd read Karen Swan's writing before now and I was nicely surprised. I thought it would be a fairly easy and predictable 'Summer' read and that was exactly what I needed. But it was a bit more than that and the surprise was a nice one. Instead of being a predictable love story following a typical romance, you actually get to around halfway through the book without really knowing who the major love interest will be - although there are hints. The writing is crafted in such a way tha ...more

Loved the mystery storyline interweaved in this book and Ro's character made me laugh with her clumsiness much like my own. I really enjoyed all of Karen's books and this was the last one of her's I had left to read. Now I am kind of sad that I binge-read them all and have to find something else on my "never-empty" Kindle. Highly recommend them all!

“The Summer Without You” mixes adventure and romance with a dash of mystery when Rowena (Ro) Tipton moves to The Hamptons from England after her long-term boyfriend calls a hiatus in their relationship for six months. Depressed, slightly lost and wearing his clothes to feel close to him, Ro begins spreading her wings opening her new “Marmalade Family Media” business, kayaking and taking yoga lessons as well as partying with her two engaging housemates Bobbi Winkleman and Humphrey (Hump) Slater. ...more

When Rowena Tipton's life is turned upside down by her boyfriend she thinks her heart will break.
After being together from college and always assuming they will marry and have kids her boyfriend Matt decides before taking the ultimate step of marriage they need to "pause" their relationship for six months while he goes to find himself in Cambodia.
Confused and struggling to start up a new business she goes to New York where she wins a house share in the Hamptons for the whole summer.

2.5* it was almost a 1* until I got to three quarters mark. Anyway it was almost a DNF book but I powered through. I loved the plot and the characters but they could have been better thought through. Ro was a pill that was hard to swallow but once I reached that one part in the book she finally came alive to me. Hump's story could have been better, he was a good character. Bobbi was annoying she actually changed from first time we saw her to just about the second time she appeared. Don't know wh ...more

I adored this book! I was put off by the size of the book as I usually find with larger books like this that they seem quite drawn out but I can’t say that about this book. It flows at a comfortable pace and there are no low points to the book in fact it is anything but! This author sure does like her unexpected twists and turns, this is what makes this book impossible to put down as you have to keep turning the pages to see what the next revelation will be.

This book was delicious from beginning to end - thought it was going to be a bit of a fluffy 'summer in the Hamptons' storyline but how wrong was I?! Twists, turns, fabulously relatable characters, the storyline totally sucked you in and you just didn't see any of it coming - thank you Karen Swan!
Ultimately an engaging summer read but with some heavy issues along too. Murder and mystery keep you interested even after the romance side has become a bit ho hum. A couple of times I heard the beginning of a question in my mind about the plot construction and whether some links were logical but really the author has you in her grip and you don't care.

I struggled a bit with this. Too much travelogue, too many pointless characters and too long to get where it was going. I did read to the end in case I missed something but I never warmed to Ro so found it hard to root for her.

Loved it - Ro, Hump, Ted etc - were all characters that I enjoyed so much. London vs NY on many levels - another thoroughly good read by K. Swan.

It took me so long to finish it, only at the end that i sped thorough it.
It was unnecessarily long with repeated dialogues, repeating about the dunes over and over again!
The main character Ro was not likable she was whining about Matt all the time and to be honest everything about her was annoying.
Last but not least Ro falling in love with Long story, it wasn't believable AND it was so cheesy and cliché !

Not the usual chick lit story. The book is a light read, but at the same time intrigues you and keeps you guessing till the end.
