"Thandi Lujabe-Ranko, the subject of this fine and authoritative autobiography, which outlines for us, in sometimes uncompromising terms, the journey taken by herself - from the cauldron of apartheid, through various postings in exile to a triumphant return to the native land. Thandi Lujabe-Rankoe was an ANC (African National Congress) leader during the struggle against apartheid in Tanzania, Zambia, Egypt, Nigeria, Botswana, and Zimbabwe. Then between 1988 and and 1994 she represented the ANC in Norway where she hosted Madiba (Nelson Mandela) when he won the Nobel Peace Prize. After 1994 she was the South African ambassador to Tanzania and then Mozambique.
