This was a fun book to read. It's fascinating to hear stories about the early days from a man who's been there since pretty much the beginning. My favorite story was about Bruce and Frank Trigg scrapping in the elevator over Dana's watch. Pure comic gold! Bruce Buffer has been training martial arts his whole life and is the real deal. Even after all his success, he still manages to stay humble and just be a cool human being. I tip my hat to you Mr. Buffer. Well done.

What an amazing book!! Much much more then I was expecting. I must admit I did not know much about Bruce Buffer apart from the fact he announced the fights in the Octagon. Earning him the title the veteran "Voice Of The Octagon" (VOTO). I read a couple of passages where he talked about a couple of the fighters and though it was well written and might give some interesting stories and information about other fighters. The book is that and so much more.

To explain the book, let me give a brief introduction to Bruce Buffer, trust me whatever I say does not do him justice. He is:

a successful business man/consultant
a telemarketer
a respected mentor to young fighters
a manager
a lifelong martial artist
a semi pro surfer
a professional gambler
a motivation speaker
a playboy (even at the age of 48 when this book was published)
a fan
and a ring announcer

He even sometime turns in to Buffer-man and beats up beach bullies, back up his friends in bar fights; these friends include Chuck Liddell, Tito Ortiz, & B J Penn to name a few.

This book reads part motivations self-help book, to real world business models that could be applied to any walk of life, to martial arts, never backing down, surrounding yourself with the right people and most of all be 100% passionate about what you do or don't bother. Bruce Buffer (BB) seems to lead a charmed life. I have no doubt his work extremity hard to get where he is because in his own words "Buffer-isms" he does not do anything by halves a trait he learned early on from his dad. He writes his book in the same way. GSP in his book The Way of the Fight said if he was going to write a book it was going to be the best book in his category, for his sake he does not see this book in his category because in my opinion it is better. The book starts from BB early family life to his pre UFC business including his reconciliation and management of his (lost) older brother Michael Buffer.

BB learned early on in his life what he was good at, and then tied to his interests to his strengths and let his passion guide him into doing the best he could in whatever venture he was pursuing from business, to women, to martial arts. If he lost his job as VOTO he would be devastated. Not because of the money he has made enough money to make himself financially independent. He would be devastated because he loves the UFC and martial arts. Let me paint a picture for you what he receives from the UFC. He announces each fight, watches it from ring side, then he is at every after party and pre-event. He counts the best fighters and coaches in the world as friends and training partners. I mean which fan would not go ballistic to spend a day with Randy Couture, or a young fighter to have a private training secession with the legend? Through his media connections he meets all the top actors, stuntmen, producers, directors and even kings' princess' and sheiks? He is on the V.I.P and High Roller list of every club or casino, to top all that he files all over the world for free and is paid well to be an announcer. Could he want more for life? I will let him answer that one.

This is a great book that will give you motivational advice you can use if you choose to, or great insight into the pre-zuffa to the modern UFC and the fighters new and old. Really enjoyed this book (much more then I thought I would) and would recommend it to anyone.

Surprisingly enjoyable. Not what I expected. Buffer has lived an interesting life and his memoir is engaging. While not a book about the UFC per se, it's hard to recommend to a non-UFC fan since one would have to ignore or be bored by significant portions of the book.

A nice read if you like watching UFC like I do but the guy really exaggerates his role. He is just the announcer and not the main event!

4 out of 5 stars for "It's Time! by Bruce Buffer

If you’re reading these words, chances are that you, like me, are a fan of the great sport we call MMA. And if you’re a fan, then you probably recognize my face. Yeah, that’s right—I’m that guy you see at every UFC match, spinning around and roaring into the microphone and getting up in fighters’ grills. Okay, so I might not be the most subtle or refined announcer in the business. But I hope I communicate my passion for the sport in a way no other announcer does.

I’ll say it again: Passion. Because that’s what this book is about.

In these pages, I want to tell you about the passion that first led me to bet everything on this sport of ours, way back when MMA was outlawed in half the country and there wasn’t a dime to be made on it. I want to tell you how that passion all started, with my larger-than-life father, a former Marine Drill Sergeant who, by the time I was ten, had taught me to play poker and blackjack, field-strip a Luger pistol blindfolded, and recite poetry. He was a man who thought nothing of confronting a group of thugs armed with nothing but his fists—and who expected the same strength and honor from his sons.

And I want to tell you about the remarkable, late-life meeting with the celebrity brother I never knew I had — a brother whose existence my parents had never once breathed a word about — that helped inspire me to chase my own dreams of standing up in the Octagon.

Dear Readers: Surprising stuff from the guy in the fancy tux, right? And that’s just the start. There’s a lot you don’t know about, yet. And now… IT’S TIME!!

A quick and entertaining peek into the life of the Voice of the Octagon. Bruce lives an interesting, extraordinary life, as a martial artist and fan of MMA. He shares his thoughts/experiences on certain fighters in the UFC and gives us a glimpse into his life: Pre-event preparation, routine, after party, guest rules, etc. He seems like a very genuine guy who will go out of his way to help fans of the sport.

Got this for the MMA stories, some of which were interesting, However the book did sometimes come across a bit egotistic at times. Maybe its a harsh statement but thats how I felt reading about some of the stories in the book. Talks as if he is every bit as important to the UFC as the fighters which is wrong in my opinion. Maybe I read it wrong but I think he comes across as having a high opinion of himself, maybe thats why hes still a bachelor.

I am a huge mma fan so it was cool to see how it all started from Bruce's 1st hand knowledge of being on the inside from the beginning. I thought the book flowed pretty well until the random chapter towards the end about all the women. He still kept it PG so it was all good

This is for die hard UFC fans. As with many non-authors, Bruce tells his story in a conversational yet non-linear manner. A few entertaining stories about current and former UFC fighters, yet most of the stories were shared with promotional material.
